I'm an army field medic. I can treat bullet wounds, shrapnel, trench foot no problem. But this, the kids and the psychological trauma and all the rest is out of my league.

Lieutenant Markland is a Californian field medic in the New California Republic Army stationed at Bitter Springs in Fallout: New Vegas.

Background

A capable medical professional, Markland is a veteran of the wasteland and the NCR's military campaigns. He is a capable combat medic, able to treat gunshot wounds, dig out shrapnel from soldiers, and help deal with trench feet. However, the situation at Bitter Springs, which calls for a more experienced medic with psychological training focused on managing PTSD and treating children results in Markland being completely out of his depth.

The good lieutenant is an honest, decent man in more ways than one. He is very polite, fair in his dealings, and genuinely cares about those put in his care.
