Sergeant McCredie is the non-commissioned officer responsible for Army troops stationed at Camp Golf in Fallout: New Vegas. He can be found at the Camp Golf command center.

Background

McCredie is a career soldier, who joined the NCR Army at 16.[3] After reaching the rank of Sergeant, he refused promotion repeatedly, in order to stay in the field, rather than behind a desk.[4] He is also a veteran of the Mojave Campaign, present in the region ever since the NCR first entered in back in 2274.[5]

By 2281, he is stationed at Camp Golf, drilling troops to keep discipline up and combat readiness high.[6] He is unfortunate enough to have the Misfits under his command, and set on whipping them in to shape if it kills him, or them.[2]

Notable quotes

  • "Seems the Misfits scored pretty well on their readiness evaluations. That strikes me as... suspicious."
  • "I gotta admit, I'm impressed. The Misfits are drilling better than I ever expected."
  • "I'm not sure what's going on with the Misfits - their accuracy is in the toilet, but they're spoiling for a fight like I ain't never seen."
  • "Well, their test scores are only marginally improved, but I'm hearing good things about the Misfits' teamwork."
  • "Nice work dealing with Caesar. That'll make holding the Mojave a lot easier."
  • "Have you seen these elite rangers they sent us from California? God damn those boys are gonna kick some ass!"
  • "Nice work with that assassination attempt! If my troops were half as dedicated as you, we'd win the war in a week!"
  • "Looks like the President's security detail was too good for you, huh, shitbird?"
  • "Not like I even voted for him, but losing the President's a hell of a morale killer."
  • "I just got word that 1st Recon is being mobilized to Nelson. God forbid we get any reinforcements here, right?"

References

  1. The Courier: "Captain Gilles at Bitter Springs needs reinforcements. Can you spare any?"
McCredie: "Who the hell are you, coming in here and asking me if I can "spare any?" I don't hand out NCR troopers to anybody who wanders out of the Wasteland!"
    (McCredie's dialogue)
  2. 2.0 2.1 The Courier: "Sounds like you're a little disappointed in your troops."
McCredie: "Disappointed? We call 'em the Misfits for a reason. They're undisciplined, lazy, and they have absolutely no espirit de corps. The squad leader's got some promise, kid named Mags, but as for the rest... I don't see much hope. I'm going to make them shape up if it kills me, though. Or them, for that matter."
    (McCredie's dialogue)
  3. The Courier: "How do you like serving in the Army?"
McCredie: "Man, it's my life. I joined up when I was 16 - I don't know how to do anything else."
    The Courier: "That's some dedication."
McCredie: "Thanks. I only wish some of the soldiers under my command would share some of it."

  4. The Courier: "How do you like serving in the Army?"
McCredie: "Man, it's my life. I joined up when I was 16 - I don't know how to do anything else."
The Courier: "You joined at 16 and you're still a sergeant?"
McCredie: "Yeah, well... I didn't want to get promoted out of the field. I didn't join up to drive a desk."
    (McCredie's dialogue)
  5. The Courier: "How'd you end up at Camp Golf?"
McCredie: "I've been here since the first push into Vegas. Back in the day, this camp was the hotspot for conflicts with the Legion, raider tribes, you name it. These days, I spend most of my time trying to beat a little discipline into the soldiers under my command. They've gotten soft with no action."
The Courier: "Funny, I thought this was where they sent washouts and losers."
McCredie: "Yeah, well, somebody has to wrangle those washouts and losers. Somebody's got to turn them into a real fighting force."
    (McCredie's dialogue)
  6. The Courier: "So what do you do now that the fighting's died down?"
McCredie: "Mostly drill the troops, try to keep the discipline up and combat readiness high. It's not the easiest job in the world - soldiers without a mission get bored very easily. Still, with the Legion just across the river, we have to be ready."
    (McCredie's dialogue)
