Mill Worker is an unmarked quest and achievement/trophy in the Fallout 3 add-on The Pitt.

Quick walkthrough

  1. Talk to Everett.
  2. Find 100 steel ingots in the steelyard.
  3. Deliver the steel ingots to Everett.

Detailed walkthrough

The quest begins alongside Unsafe Working Conditions which is started by Everett at the Mill. As with that quest, the player character is required to find steel ingots scattered around the steelyard, the abandoned area and the supply plant. While a minimum of 10 must be obtained for Unsafe Working Conditions, Mill Worker is completed by finding all 100 ingots.

Ingot locations

See here for comprehensive guides to collecting all 100 ingots.

Rewards

Every 10 ingots returned to Everett at the Mill will earn a reward of a unique weapon or piece of armor:

Notes

  • It is possible and advisable to retrieve all 100 ingots during Unsafe Working Conditions instead of only the required 10, as while the quest is active, every ingot is considered a quest item and remains weightless, whereas after turning in the first 10 ingots to Everett, every remaining ingot instantly gains a Carry Weight of 1 lbs.
    • Finding all 100 ingots will require opening an Average-locked door in the supply plant, so one is advised to have either a 50 Lockpick skill level at minimum, or the ability to raise the Lockpick skill level to the minimum via chems or armor pieces temporarily.
  • Midea's desk can be used as safe storage for any loot before returning to the Capital Wasteland.

Behind the scenes

  • Upon turning in all 100 ingots, Everett calls the Lone Wanderer "one hell of a steeler."[1] "Steeler" is the colloquial name for workers in a steelyard. It is also the name of the Pittsburgh Steelers football team in the NFL.
  • Upon receiving the Mauler for 80 ingots, Everett claims it was previously used to kill trogs and ghouls "from here to Monroeville."[2] Monroeville, Pennsylvania is the city where Pittsburgh native George A. Romero filmed the classic 1978 horror film Dawn of the Dead set during a zombie apocalypse. A common term for ghouls in the Fallout series (though considered a racial slur by ghouls themselves) is "zombie."
  • The name of the Leather Rebel and Everett's claim it once belonged to "a desert priest" is a reference to the Judas Priest song "Leather Rebel."[3]

Bugs

  • Playstation 3Playstation 3Playstation 3 In some cases, Everett will not go into the mill where you have to give him the ingots, preventing you from finishing the quest. In this case, just keep the ingots you have collected and advance through the storyline. After you defeat everyone in the Hole, return to Everett and he will congratulate you. At that point, his dialogue options will return to normal, and you can exchange your remaining ingots.[verified]
  • Playstation 3Playstation 3Playstation 3 Xbox 360Xbox 360 If the last few ingots are presented in a quantity less than 10, you may not get the achievement, nor the equipment.[verified]
  • PCPC Xbox 360Xbox 360 When on the building that has 12 ingots, it is possible to fall through the roof straight to the ground which kills you instantly. This bug occurs if the Point Lookout add-on has been installed. A solution is to save the game while on the roof, restart and load the save. When you enter another area through a door, you have to restart the game again.[verified]
  • Playstation 3Playstation 3Playstation 3 Although Wild Bill's body may be looted after falling through the normally accessible map (see here), the two ingots normally present next to his body will not be found, thereby making the achievement or trophy impossible to get, and limiting the maximum obtainable ingots to 98.[verified]
