This is an overview article, listing content appearing in multiple games. |
A minigun is a multi-barrel machine gun with a high rate of fire, employing Gatling-style rotating barrels. It was a standard military weapon before the Great War, with Rockwell's CZ series being the most popular choice in the United States of America.
It is widely used by powerful factions such as the super mutants, the Brotherhood of Steel and the Enclave, for their extraordinary firepower at close range.
Models
CZ53 personal minigun
A Rockwell CZ53 personal minigun. A multi-barreled chaingun firing 5mm ammunition at over 60,000 RPM.[1] It is used in combination with a "cassette" ammo box. When the Great War struck, it was already an aging design and was slowly being replaced by the more advanced CZ57 Avenger minigun.[2]
CZ57 Avenger minigun
Rockwell designed the CZ57[3] Avenger[4] as the replacement for their aging CZ53 personal minigun. The Avenger's design improvements include improved gel-fin cooling and chromium plated barrel-bores. This gives it a greater range and lethality.[2]
Vindicator minigun
The German Rheinmetall AG company created the ultimate minigun. The Vindicator throws over 90,000 caseless shells per minute down its six carbon-polymer barrels. As the pinnacle of Teutonic engineering skill, it is the ultimate hand-held weapon.[5]
MEC Gauss minigun
The following is based on information from Fallout Tactics. |
The MEC Gauss is of Chinese design. It uses multiple electromagnetic fields to propel over 90,000 rounds per minute to relativistic velocities.[6]
Unnamed 9mm minigun
The following is based on information from Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel. |
Awful accuracy-but that's not the point. The Minigun unleashes a lethal stream of continuous bullets that can saw an incoming horde of enemies in half.[7]
CZ25 military minigun
The following is based on Van Buren design documents and is not canon. |
A Rockwell CZ25 Military Minigun. A multi-barreled weapon capable of firing large quantities of ammo with minimal heal issues.
Behind the scenes
- The Avenger might be named after the GAU-8 Avenger 30mm Gatling-type rotary cannon mounted on the A-10 Thunderbolt II.
- The CZ designation could possibly be a reference to the real-world weapon manufacturer, Česká zbrojovka (famous for CZ-75 pistol or Skorpion submachine gun).
