The Mojave Outpost headquarters is an unmarked location within the Mojave Outpost in the Mojave Wasteland in Fallout: New Vegas.

Background[]

A pre-War highway checkpoint that originally served travelers entering the long stretch of Interstate 15, it lay abandoned for over a century before eventually being occupied by the New California Republic during their Mojave Campaign. Ranger Jackson was put in command of the installation.[Non-game 1][Non-game 2]

The headquarters building acts as the NCR's administrative hub and command center for the southern Mojave, responsible for protecting the stretch of the I-15 south of Primm and Highway 95 up through the area protected by Camp Searchlight.[1]

Recently, however, the NCR's forces have been spread thin, allowing threats like hostile bandits and vicious fauna to take over the highway below, causing caravans to slowly back up at the outpost waiting for the roads to clear or their clearance papers to come through.[2] The officers at the HQ handle administrative duties of logging and compiling the outpost's traffic data.[3]

Layout[]

Situated at the mid-west side of the outpost, next to the barracks, the building has a picnic area in the back. The roadway in front of the building is part of what was once the highway checkpoint station. The northern end of the valley is overshadowed by the Unification Monument and the southern is enclosed by rock walls. There is a fence enclosing the two buildings on all sides and several piles of sandbags for defense. The gate to the southwest leads farther down the Long 15 (though one cannot access it until a certain point of the Lonesome Road add-on). Two satellite dishes stand on the roof, one on the headquarters and one on the barracks, pointing west.

Upon entering the headquarters of the building for the first time, one will be greeted by Major Knight, who runs the front desk of this office, and can provide more detailed information about the region and current state of affairs and can repair items to 100%. Ranger Jackson can usually be found in one of the building's rear rooms.

  1. The Courier: "Can you tell me about the Outpost?"
Knight: "NCR border guard duty mostly. It's our job to make sure the caravans can move safely along I-15 and Highway 95. Not the best posting or assignment, but it beats being sent East, or patrolling the Colorado. Legion's pretty thick there."
    (Major Knight's dialogue)
  2. The Courier: "What is this place?"
Kilborn: "Outpost, Mojave Outpost. Watching a lot of nothing, feels like a big Brahmin pen for caravans. They've been stopped for a while, waiting for the roads North to clear - or their clearance papers to go through. Look like you've walked a ways, so if you need to shake the dust off, head to the Barracks, the bar's there. Not much, but better than nothing."
    (Kilborn's dialogue)
  3. Knight: "Caravan, citizen, pilgrim, or...?"
    The Courier: "What?"
Knight: "Just need something for the log book, keeping tabs on traffic through the Outpost... although mostly just in, not out these days. If you're looking for the commanding officer, he's in the back. Although... he's got a lot on his plate, so if you speak with him... keep it short. Also, you need any gear checked, we can get you up and running again... once you fill out the work orders, and sign for the parts, of course."
    (Knight's dialogue)

Major Knight runs the front desk of this office, but Ranger Jackson is in charge of this Outpost. Knight needs to note down your details. Knight is an incredible tinkerer, and offers up his unsurpassed Repair skill for the right price. Nearby is a Vending Machine, offices empty of items you need, and a corridor leading to Ranger Jackson. He’s also able to speak to you about NCR Troop levels, as part of Side Quest: My Kind of Town. The rear of the building has a number of rooms with the usual fridge Food and scraps to optionally check. But you’re here to see Ranger Jackson, who you can quiz about the state of the Outpost, and who offers you a job of clearing Ants; Side Quest: Can You Find It in Your Heart. You’re given some Caps and a weapon, plus Food, depending on your demeanor. Jackson also plays a secondary role in Side Quest: Heartache By the Number."

The place where the Mojave Outpost now stands was originally a checkpoint between California and Nevada. After the war, it stood empty and vacant for well over a century. Ten years ago, the NCR Rangers and the Desert Rangers of Nevada (who have been dwindling in numbers) met at what had become known as the I-15 Mojave Outpost, to establish terms of the Ranger Unification Treaty. In its current form, Mojave Outpost serves as the link between NCR and the Mojave Wasteland."
