Mom's Diner is a restaurant located in the east side of the Den. It is run by a robust older woman lovingly dubbed "Mom" by her patrons.

Dining

Patrons can order rat-pie, rat-loaf, or spaghetti with rat sauce. Each rat dish costs $10 and heals 2-8 hit points.[1]

If the Chosen One completes the "deliver a meal to Smitty for Mom" quest, Mom serves up a "combination plate of the best darn food [she has]"[2] that heals 5-20 hit points.[1]

Though the player can only order rat-based dishes, Mom's Diner sometimes offers non-rat dishes according to The Vault Dweller's Official Cookbook.[3][4][5] Presumably, the menu frequently changes based upon whatever food source is presently in the kitchen. The recipes attributed to Mom's Diner in The Vault Dweller's Official Cookbook are as follows:

Shop inventory

Mom sells the following items with a Barter skill of 120% and restocks every 13-15 days.[6] Any item with a percentage after it is not always restocked.

Weapons Medical Miscellaneous items
  • $110-$125

Notes

If Mom has been killed, the next time the Den's east side is entered, an out of business sign will be present.

Appearances

Mom's Diner appears only in Fallout 2.

Behind the scenes

Regularly eating food was necessary for Fallout 2's survival system before it became cut content. Mom's rat dishes would have been considered a "large meal" and the quest reward for "deliver a meal to Smitty for Mom" would have been considered a "huge meal".[1]

One particularly unenthused patron suggested I stay away from the brahmin fries, but I couldn't help myself and ordered a plate. These are... not the same recipe, but I much prefer to harvesting the brahmin, uh, "meat" myself from one of the beasts."
