The Monte Carlo Suites is a is a run-down hotel in the Mojave Wasteland.

Background[edit | edit source]

On the western edge of the Las Vegas Conurbation is this run-down hotel. Littered with burned-out vehicles, mostly used for cover and not barricades, this is the lair of the Scorpions. A scrappy and overconfident bunch of mercenaries, they don't listen to reason.[1]

Layout[edit | edit source]

The Monte Carlo Suites is one large building with a big neon sign on the roof on the western side of New Vegas, placed directly north from Sunset Sarsaparilla headquarters and south of Westside, and base of the Scorpions Gang. Some info can be provided about the place (and its current inhabitants) by Klamath Bob, if asked about it in his liquor store at Westside.

The building has quite a decayed look, with two blue wrecked trucks outside the entrance, but the inside is more or less well preserved, excluding the demolished stairs (that deny access to the second floor). One thug of the Scorpions Gang usually guards the front door, and will attack the player on sight. More members can be found inside: two of them wandering within the rectangular corridor and the several rooms, while another four stay in an easy locked room. There are also one male by the name of Roller and a female named Yvette, both of them hostile to the player too, located in other rooms.

The Scorpions Gang members (including Roller and Yvette) wear light mercenary outfits; some of them carry small guns (10 mm pistols, sawed-off shotguns, submachine guns, etc.), others have switchblades and will attack at close range. A close observation suggests that they are more "sophisticated" than your typical party, having arranged sleeping quarters, dining room, children room, workspace and a constant guard outside.

The rooms contain several refrigerators and ovens (providing some food) and various crates, including one locked ammunition box (average) and one locked footlocker (average, contains Fixer, hydra and psycho) at the locked room where the four thugs are. A workbench and a reloading bench can be found in the third room right from the entrance.

Notable loot[edit | edit source]

  • Yvette carries a .44 revolver in near perfect condition worth over 2300 caps.
  • One of the Scorpion gang members may carry a Ripper.
  • Random loot from the dead Scorpion gang members.

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • To the immediate west of the building is an abandoned house that can be entered. The mailbox in front of the door is rigged with a proximity bomb. Upon exiting the house, the courier will be ambushed by three Fiends.
  • There is a Sierra Madre poster in one of the rooms.

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

There are traces of something interesting cut here. Much like the Boulder City quest that exists only in the tantalising form of a single cut note, there was clearly some kind of quest planned for the Scorpions, the gang infesting the Suites. There are two named Scorpions, Roller and Yvette. Neither of them have any dialogue. Most significantly there is an unused note called ScorpionsGangNoteNV which lays bare what would have happened here:

"Yvette, the leader of the Scorpions on the Westside of New Vegas, wants you to set up a steady supply of ammunition from the NCR quartermaster at Camp McCarran. Her gang recently acquired new firearms but lack the ammunition to put them to use."

It's almost certain that the quartermaster in question would have been the clearly dubious as hell Sgt. Contreras, but he has no dialogue relating to the quest.

Looking inside the Suites and NPC placements, Roller seems to be in charge of actually manufacturing ammo/fixing weapons, so he's likely to be the person Yvette would have you talk to about the quest after she gives you the order of what to do. Of course this is all mere conjecture - there is NOTHING left of this quest in the game save these two npcs and the cut note. Neither of the two unique Scorpion characters have ANY unique dialogue at all, and indeed the player can't even talk to them as they're always enemies. It seems this quest was probably just cut due to lack of time.

Appearances[edit | edit source]

Monte Carlo Suites appears only in Fallout: New Vegas.
