You got the stuff, I got the caps. A match made in heaven.Murphy

Murphy's Bombing Run is an unmarked and repeatable quest in Fallout 3.

Quick walkthrough[]

Unmarked Quest: Murphy's Bombing Run
Talk to Murphy
Find a box of Sugar Bombs
Bring the Sugar Bombs to Murphy.
Reward: Caps
Ultrajet

Detailed walkthrough[]

Murphy is a ghoul scientist, stationed just inside Northwest Seneca Station, who is working on an improved version of the drug Jet, known as Ultrajet. However, he wants the Lone Wanderer's help with finding one of the ingredients: Sugar Bombs.

For every box of Sugar Bombs that the player character brings him, he will offer to pay 15 caps, which can be increased to 30 caps by passing a Speech check. The player character can then purchase 1 Ultrajet from him (around 70 caps each, depends on your Barter skill) for every 8 boxes of Sugar Bombs turned in.

Location of Sugar Bombs[]

Notes[]

  • The first time Murphy offers one a look at his inventory, which includes Ultrajet and a handful of other drugs, he will have zero caps. Upon purchasing Ultrajet from Murphy, the player character can sell him items from their own inventory to get some or all of the caps back. However, any items sold to him will automatically disappear from his inventory.
  • Aside from directly buying Ultrajet from Murphy, his inventory can be found inside of a Hard locked footlocker beside his desk. With a sufficiently high Sneak skill, one can steal the Ultrajet from his inventory after Murphy creates it. After giving Murphy the Sugar Bombs, the Ultrajet slowly begins to appear in his inventory, at a rate of one every few seconds rather than all at once (apparently giving him time to synthesize it).
  • Selling Murphy the spacesuit acquired during the Mothership Zeta add-on will result in him wearing it upon the next visit.
  • Dropping any Sugar Bombs on the ground near Murphy will result in him picking them up and not paying for them. They will not be in his inventory, making it impossible to steal them back.

Behind the scenes[]

The name of this quest appears to be a play on words from the term of the same name. A bombing run is the part of a flight of a bomber aircraft that brings it to the point over a target at which its bombs are released.

Bugs[]

PCPC Playstation 3Playstation 3Playstation 3 Xbox 360Xbox 360 After speaking to Murphy for the first time, giving him any boxes of Sugar Bombs will result in one not getting paid. Leaving the area and then returning will fix this problem. [verified]
