Murphy is a ghoul scientist living inside Northwest Seneca station in Fallout 3.


Murphy was an amateur scientist even back in his pre-Ghoul days, and his tenacity has allowed him to deal with his "affliction."[1] He has holed up in the Northwest Seneca station due to its isolation and has developed a chem far more intense than regular jet which he has coined "ultrajet." Ultrajet is essential for ghouls, as regular Jet has only limited effects on them.[2] Ultrajet requires three ingredients; Murphy has plenty of the first two, jet and Abraxo cleaner, but the other ingredient Sugar Bombs have proven to be more difficult to obtain.[3] Even though these Sugar Bombs are instrumental in the continuation of his operation, Murphy does not dare leave his lab to scavenge them, but he is more than willing to hire someone else to scavenge them, as long they decide quickly and not waste his time.[4][5]

He has a healthy bit of paranoia for keeping the secret of ultrajet under his hat,[6] but apparently has a tendency to misspeak and let the cat out of the bag.[7] Regardless, he has an assistant named Barrett, who acts mostly as a bodyguard if things happen to get rough.[8] Murphy's lab has a tunnel that leads into the metro station in which The Family resides. They mostly stay out of each others business, a relationship that is fine by Murphy.[9]

  • If the Lone Wanderer berates Murphy in a dialogue, he will end the conversation. If the Lone Wanderer starts another conversation with him and asks him about the Sugar Bombs, he and Barrett will turn hostile once the conversation ends.
