Project Lembas was a food replacement project created by Drew Collingsworth, aiming to replace regular Vault supplies with a proprietary food paste. It was an experiment for determining the optimal density of calories in a foodstuff versus storage space. It was intended for use in a VTU experiment that would test the tolerance of various individual's ability to consume food of unvarying texture, but allow them to design flavors or use pre-created flavors. The experiment would have two groups: A control group that uses a standard regimen of Vault supplies, and an experimental group that subsists on nothing but Drew's food paste formula:[1]

It would be available with a list of potential flavor profiles and components that dwellers could use to create new "meals":[1]

The project was accepted by dean Harland Elliot, with his own confidential modifications: The horrible paste was modified with a plaquing agent to cause arterial plaque buildup and premature death, to observe the reactions of students to deaths within a confined space.[1]

Behind the scenes

  • The name is a reference to lembas bread from J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings.
