The railway rifle is a weapon in Fallout Shelter. There are six variations of this weapon, including a unique legendary variant.

Background[edit | edit source]

Main article: Railway rifle

Although this weapon's origins are a mystery, Seagrave Holmes of Rivet City wrote of trying to design a weapon (initially using large rubber bands) that could utilize railway spikes as its ammunition.[1]

Characteristics[edit | edit source]

Main article: Railway rifle

This weapon, essentially a gas operated semi-automatic clip-fed steam rifle, is named for the distinctive steam locomotive sound heard when firing. It is constructed with a crutch as the weapon's buttstock attached to a steam gauge assembly, which serves as the weapon's action; a pressure gauge on the assembly displays and regulates the amount of pressure built up within the pressure cooker, which uses a fission battery to heat water into steam. The trigger releases this pressure, propelling the railroad spikes from the steam gauge assembly. Railroad spikes in a stripper clip are inserted into the ammunition slot, beneath a latch.
