The Ranger Sequoia is a weapon in Fallout: New Vegas.

Background[]

The Ranger Sequoia is a staple of the arsenal of the New California Republic Rangers where an NCR Veteran Ranger is given their own personal revolver after 20 years of dedicated service to the New California Republic.

Characteristics[]

Ranger Sequoia expanded

Compared to the standard hunting revolver, the Ranger Sequoia lacks a dedicated scope. It possesses the highest base damage of all one-handed revolvers in the game. It also has a slightly higher rate of fire and so a higher damage-per-second (DPS) value, a slightly higher Critical Chance and Critical Hit damage multiplier, a slightly lower AP cost, lower spread, and higher durability. On the other hand, it has a lower caps value and like all weapons that are chambered for .45-70 Gov't rounds, its ammo is scarce, with most weapon vendors selling very small quantities of said rounds at very high prices and enemies unlikely to carry hunting revolvers and ammo for looting and repairing until at least level 20; as with most other uncommon and rare ammo types, the Great Khan armorer near Spring Mt. Ranch State Park and Quartermaster Bardon in the Hoover Dam offices are among the few that have .45-70 Gov't ammo in substantial quantities. The Ranger Sequoia is not a holdout weapon.

In terms of appearance, the weapon features a dark finish with intricate engravings etched all around the weapon. Engraved along the barrel are the words "For Honorable Service," and "Against All Tyrants." The grip bears the the symbol of a bear and star, and a brass plate attached to the bottom that reads "20 Years." In contrast to the standard hunting revolver, the Ranger Sequoia also is fitted with an octagonal barrel.

Durability[]

The Ranger Sequoia can fire a total of about 745 standard rounds, the equivalent of 149 reloads, from full condition before breaking.

Locations[]

Notes[]

  • Although the Ranger Sequoia is a variant of the hunting revolver, it shares its gunshot sounds with the .44 Magnum revolver.

Behind the scenes[]

Joshua Sawyer stated that the hunting revolver and Ranger Sequoia are based on the Magnum Research BFR with a "little bit of the short-lived Bison Bull."[Non-game 1]

Bugs[]

  • Playstation 3Playstation 3Playstation 3 Sometimes the hammer will get stuck and appear pulled back, like the hammer on the .357 Magnum revolver and Lucky. It will return to normal after reloaded or shot. [verified]
  • PCPC Playstation 3Playstation 3Playstation 3 Xbox 360Xbox 360 The cylinder may sometimes glitch when reloading and not open or release bullets, but it is merely an aesthetic glitch. Unequipping and reequipping the weapon can fix the glitch. [verified]
  • PCPC Playstation 3Playstation 3Playstation 3 Xbox 360Xbox 360 If loading a saved game from the main menu in which you have the Ranger Sequoia equipped and drawn, the reload animation takes twice as long as normal. This can be solved by simply switching to another gun and then back again. [verified]
  • Xbox 360Xbox 360 Equipping this gun after wielding the Gatling laser in 3rd person mode shows the electron charge pack on the sequoia. [verified]
  • Playstation 3Playstation 3Playstation 3 Even after stealing the ranger sequoia, dropping it and picking it back up will result in Karma loss. [verified]
  • PCPC Occasionally, drawing the weapon from your hip or equipping it will cause it to show up without the rounded back portion of the cylinder or the hammer, instead there will the speedloader for the revolver in its place, this bug is also present on other speed-loaded revolvers. Only switching ammunition types will fix this, and then only until the next time you unequip and reequip or reholster and redraw the weapon. [verified]
  • Xbox 360Xbox 360 In some games, a glitch will happen when Hanlon's dead body and Ranger Sequoia will disappear, leaving you unable to retrieve the sequoia in this fashion. They can still be received from NCR Veteran Rangers though. [verified]
  • PCPC Playstation 3Playstation 3Playstation 3 Xbox 360Xbox 360 Occasionally, the weapon's model file may turn it invisible when dropped, making it difficult to find. It can, however, still be looted and used.[verified]
