Strategic Air Command (SAC) was a United States Armed Forces command responsible for the maintenance of the United States nuclear arsenal. Although rendered extinct by the Great War, with its headquarters permanently offline by 2241,[1] automated SAC manufacturing facilities and automated cargobots continued to manufacture and deliver nuclear keycards to Appalachia, after the Appalachian Automated Launch System was tricked by Enclave President Thomas Eckhart into believing a land invasion of the United States mainland was underway. These convoys would then be intercepted by Enclave troops and later Vault 76 dwellers for use in the region's automated nuclear launch silos.

Behind the Scenes

  • The Strategic Air Command was a Department of Defense Specified Command and a United States Air Force (USAF) Major Command (MAJCOM) responsible for command and control of two of the three components of the U.S. military's strategic nuclear strike forces, namely bombers and intercontinental ballistic missiles. It was disestablished in 1992, after the end of the Cold War, with its responsibilities divided among other commands of the United States military. Its continued existence in the world of Fallout reflects the belligerent atmosphere of the world. Interestingly, the SAC had an utterly marginal role until Fallout 76.[2]

Appearances

SAC is mentioned in Fallout 2 and its cargobots appear in Fallout 76.
