Salient green is a consumable item in the Fallout: New Vegas add-on, Old World Blues.

Characteristics[edit | edit source]

Salient green is a gummy green goop that contains the base molecular structures of plant cells and was developed in the Big Mountain Research and Development Center. This universal and easily convertible nutrient paste is derived from any of eleven different plant types through a process at the biological research station. After being converted into salient green, the substance can be converted back into the original form, or one of several different plants via a reaction with heat, which congeals the paste into vegetation. It can also be mixed with various other ingredients to create battle brew.

Crafting[edit | edit source]

With a Survival skill of 25, one salient green can be used to create any one of the following plants at a campfire or electric hot plate, or vice versa using the biological research station located in The Sink:

Location[edit | edit source]

  • Salient green can be found in multiple facilities throughout Big MT.
  • Alternatively, it can be created by converting any plant in ones inventory into the same amount of salient green via the biological research station.

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

  • Salient green is a reference to the 1973 science fiction film Soylent Green. Soylent was a type of artificially grown food, made from soy, lentil, and/or green algae, distributed as wafers or cubes. The green subtype was officially a variant thereof, but (much to the protagonist's horror), was actually created from recycled human bodies, as the destruction of the global ecosystem made the original soylent unsustainable as a food source.
