Have you? It saddens me to hear of my fallen brethren, but their names and deeds shall be records. Tell me, how many have you found?

— Scribe Elizabeth Jameson, after being handed Brotherhood of Steel holotags.

High Scribe[3] Elizabeth Jameson[2] is the Proctor for the Order of the Quill[1] and the Keeper of the Scrolls[2] for Lyons' Brotherhood of Steel in 2277.

Background[edit | edit source]

Scribe Jameson is the Proctor of the Order of the Quill[1] and Keeper of the Scrolls[2] for the chapter. As such, she oversees the archives and protects the whole of the Brotherhood's knowledge. From technical manuals to records of the deeds of all the chapter's members.[2]

Due to the chapter's constant misuse of its resources, they not only lack proper communications equipment,[4] they also lack the personnel to properly search for and keep the records of their own detachments.[5][6][7] This necessity for resource allocation is why she asks the Lone Wanderer–the only outsider in the Citadel–to procure any and all holotags they find. A prospect she does not like.[8] The personnel shortage is far more of a probelm then let on, as she indicated that she would gladly give technology as payment for such records.[9][10][11] Although the Brotherhood is in such a state, they managed to divert enough resources to establish a mission to the Arlington Library.[1]

As a scribe it is her imperative duty to study compile and utilize the knowledge the Brotherhood procures.[12] Naturally she is a student of their own history,[13][14] and tends to conduct herself as ladylike and honorable as possible.[15][16]

Daily schedule[edit | edit source]

Scribe Jameson can be found working in the Archives area of the A Ring at the Citadel, when she is not sleeping.

Notable quotes[edit | edit source]

  • "Knowledge is the beginning of wisdom, not the end of it. One of my favorite quotes. Its author has been lost to us. How can I help you, outsider?"
  • "I came across something interesting: "The possession of knowledge does not kill the sense of wonder and mystery. There is always more mystery." Quite true, don't you think?"
  • "If we value the pursuit of knowledge, we must be free to follow wherever that search may lead us. I found that in an ancient book. The words of wisdom of one of the greatest men of the former civilzation."

Notes[edit | edit source]

Elizabeth Jameson mentions that their single field associate, Scribe Yearling, is working out of the Library of Congress. However, this is in error, as Scribe Yearling is actually working out of the Arlington Library.[1]

Appearances[edit | edit source]

Scribe Jameson appears only in Fallout 3.

Elizabeth Jameson: "Actually, I am proctor of the Order of the Quill. I oversee the Archives and Library here in the Citadel. We are dedicated to preserving the history of the Brotherhood as well as unearthing the secrets of the pre-war civilizations. We have a single field associate: Scribe Yearling. She operates out of the former Library of Congress to the northeast."

Scribe Jameson oversees the archives in the Citadel and is charged with protecting the whole of the Brotherhood's knowledge. More importantly, she keeps the scrolls that record the deeds of all Brotherhood members."

  3. 3.0 3.1 Although only referred to as "Scribe Jameson" in game and in the Fallout 3 Official Game Guide Game of the Year Edition, she reports to the Head Scribe and outranks all the generic Scribes of the chapter. Therefore, he is a High Scribe of the chapter.
  4. The Lone Wanderer: "Sure, I've got all the time in the world."
Elizabeth Jameson: "Good. As I'm sure you've noticed, the Brotherhood operates all over the DC ruins, often detached from the main base here at the Citadel. We're short on communication equipment, so many of the groups in the field operate as independent cells without standing orders. Sometimes... I'm afraid that their missions end in their deaths. As keeper of the Scrolls, it's my charge to write of each fallen Brother's deeds."
    (Elizabeth Jameson's dialogue)
  5. The Lone Wanderer: "<Yawn.>"
Elizabeth Jameson: "... okay... well... as you can see, we're having trouble keeping track of our soldiers in the field. And worse than that problem, a Brother fallen in the field would have no one to carry word of his death back to me. In calmer times, we could send detachments and messengers to learn their fates, but with our manpower stretched thin, we have no such luxury. Which is why I must now ask you for your help. Each Brother wears a Holotag like the one you found. Should you find any of the fallen Brethren in the field, I ask that you return their tags to me, so that I might record their deeds in the scrolls."
    (Elizabeth Jameson's dialogue)
  6. The Lone Wanderer: "And without radio equipment, you can't keep track of them?"
Elizabeth Jameson: "Exactly. A Brother fallen in the field may have no one to carry word of his death back to me.
  7. The Lone Wanderer: "Why can't you send your own people to find the Holotags?"
Elizabeth Jameson: "As I told you, with the increase in Super Mutant activity and Elder Lyons' edicts regarding our goals, we are critically short on manpower. Any soldier that I would ask to do this task is one less soldier fighting in the field or defending the Citadel. As much as I hate to involve outsiders, it is necessary if I am to properly maintain the scrolls to honor the dead."
    (Elizabeth Jameson's dialogue)
  8. The Lone Wanderer: "Frankly, I don't give a damn."
Elizabeth Jameson: "That's what I would expect an outsider to say."
    (Elizabeth Jameson's dialogue)
  9. The Lone Wanderer: "Where can I find Holotags?"
Elizabeth Jameson: "They are on our fallen Brothers throughout the DC Ruins. However, I can't give you a full report on the locations of all of our operations. As I said, many of the units in the field operate independently, sometimes not reporting into the Citadel for weeks or months."
    (Elizabeth Jameson's dialogue)
  10. The Lone Wanderer: "I found a Brotherhood Holotag. What should I do with it?"
Elizabeth Jameson: "You have? Oh my. This brings to light a sad affair for the Brotherhood. But perhaps it is something that you can assist us with. If you have the time, I have an offer for you."
    (Elizabeth Jameson's dialogue)
  11. The Lone Wanderer: "What's my reward if I bring you these Holotags?"
Elizabeth Jameson: "We have access to a great deal of technology, and because of that, there are a number of things that we can continue to produce. I will be able to offer you caps for the tags you bring me, but from time to time, I will be able to give you something a bit more interesting."
    (Elizabeth Jameson's dialogue)
  12. The Lone Wanderer: "I had a few questions about them."
Elizabeth Jameson: "It is my duty to provide knowledge that benefits the Brotherhood."
    (Elizabeth Jameson's dialogue)
  13. The Lone Wanderer: "I have some questions about the Brotherhood."
Elizabeth Jameson: "Ah, one of my favorite subjects, of course! What would you like to know?"
    (Elizabeth Jameson's dialogue)
  14. 14.0 14.1 The Lone Wanderer: "Care to share anything about the Super Mutants?"
Elizabeth Jameson: "The Brotherhood has been battling Super Mutants for decades. First out West, then in Chicago. Now here. But this group of Super Mutants is different, somehow. Physically, yes, but mentally as well. If we knew where they came from, we'd know why."
    (Elizabeth Jameson's dialogue)
  15. The Lone Wanderer: "So... Any thoughts on the Enclave?"
Elizabeth Jameson: "Quite a few, but most are distinctly unladylike, and unworthy of discussion. I will tell you that the Brotherhood has encountered the Enclave before, and their motives were just as sinister then as they are now."
    (Elizabeth Jameson's dialogue)
  16. The Lone Wanderer: "You can't keep track of your own damn soldiers? Who runs this place?"
Elizabeth Jameson: "I would ask that you respect the Elder as you would your own father. And rude as you may be, you are correct. We can't keep track of them. And worse than that problem, a Brother fallen in the field would have no one to carry word of his death back to me. In calmer times, we could send detachments and messengers to learn their fates, but with our manpower stretched thin, we have no such luxury. Which is why I must now ask you for your help.
