|For an overview of shovels in all games, see Shovel.|
The shovel is a weapon and a tool in Fallout: New Vegas.
A wood handled shovel, useful for digging up graves found throughout the Mojave. Its low damage makes it more suitable for digging up loot than attacking, though it can be used against weaker enemies without wasting ammunition or the durability of stronger melee weapons. Its high critical chance can make up for this, but other melee weapons may be more suitable for such situations if the players critical chance is low.
Its special V.A.T.S. attack is "Grand Slam", at the cost of 36 action points (requires a Melee skill of 50).
- Although the shovel uses the same in-game model as its Point Lookout counterpart, it lacks the higher resolution first-person textures used in the Point Lookout add-on.
- The shovel does not need to be equipped to dig up graves. It only needs to be in your inventory.
- This weapon can achieve a 100% critical hit chance (see critical chance).
- In the game, there are graves and burial mounds. They look identical, but burial mounds don't require a shovel.
