While Boone is a companion, hostile targets are highlighted whenever the player is actively aiming.— In-game description

Spotter is a companion perk in Fallout: New Vegas.

Requirements[]

Gaining Craig Boone as a companion requires traveling to Novac and talking to Manny Vargas, then asking about Boone and learning that his wife is missing. Waiting until 10 p.m. to 9 a.m. when Boone is on shift in the Dinky the T-Rex statue, the player character can go through the Dino Bite gift shop and into the sniper nest to talk to him. Either through a Speech skill check or telling Boone they're a stranger, he confides his plan to find out who helped kidnap his wife, triggering One for My Baby.

If the quest is completed by successfully helping Boone kill the culprit, then he can be offered to join the player character. If the wrong person is killed, Boone will either angrily rebuke the player character or turn hostile depending on chosen dialogue options.

Effects[]

When Boone is an active companion, the player character gains the passive ability to highlight in red all hostile enemies when aiming down sights/zooming in.

Notes[]

  • Enemies will glow green instead of red when using a night-vision scope.
  • The perk does not highlight cloaked enemies such as nightkin.
  • Combining the perk and ED-E's Enhanced Sensors, the player character can locate enemies from a farther distance and be prepared for combat more easily.
