the vampire girl? Ilovefallout 16:14, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

The one in The Family-Accountless Avenger

does it only add + 10% damage against male humans or also ghouls, supermutants etc.?

My guess is it also works on non-feral Ghouls, but Super Mutants are asexual. 206.53.65.108 17:35, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
You are correct. Feral Ghouls and supermutants are asexual. A super-mutant conversation in-game (If you sneak around and listen to them talk to each other) also confirms this "I think I knew a woman... or maybe I was a woman... GAH! My head hurts!" It should also be noted that Talon Company always sends men, I've yet to encounter a female enclave soldier, and you are SLIGHTLY more likely to run into male raiders then female ones, this makes black widow a more powerful perk then lady killer-Accountless Avenger

I have found two dead female Talon company mercs but have never encountered a living one.

Sydney[]

On the Stealing Independence page, it's mentioned that Sydney will sleep with you if you have Lady Killer, 10 CHA, and Sexy Sleepwear on. This seems too specific and unlikely to be true. Any verification? 208.97.121.178 16:02, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

I just verified it with Lady Killer Perk using Grape Mentats next to a bed in the required sexy sleepwear and there is no such dialogue option. Tried before and after return of declaration of independence.

Herbert "Daring" Dashwood Radio Dramas[]

In the radio dramas, the Black Widow is the leader of the Paradise Falls slaver gang. Just wanted to point that coincidence out.

That's obviously NOT a coincidence. Blutteufel 16:35, October 5, 2009 (UTC)

Dukov[]

The Black Widow option with the "You gotta shoot 'em in the head" quest NEVER appears. i tried every possible option.

No, I got him to give me the key with the Black Widow perk just a few hours ago. You have to mention Crowley (of course), and then I believe I first asked him how Crowley died and he talked about Tara's 'rack,' and how she died on the mission as well. Then I asked him where Fort Constantine is. That requires a speech check, but I think that's not necessary to get the Black Widow dialog to show up. After that, I said that Crowley wants the key. I also asked him why the key is so important. He said he wouldn't hand it over, and after that I had the option to use Black Widow. He then said "For you, sweet cheeks? Sure," or along those lines. I'll try and have the conversation again and give you better details.

a question[]

is it possible to be a female character, and have the Lady Killer perk instead of Black Widow? and also vice versa?

only by cheating with the player.addperk console command. Bloodwars 20:41, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

What is the base id for black widow/lady killer?

"Usefulness" of Perks[]

I've noticed on a lot of the Perk pages there is a section at the bottom called "Notes" where someone describes the "usefulness" of a perk. "Usefulness" is subjective and depends on a player's style of play. In any case, the place for making points about perk usefulness is on the perk discussion page, not on the perk main description page. I think the whole Perks section needs to be cleaned up to get rid of this nonsense. Some of these "Notes on usefulness" are just flat out wrong, like the one for Black Widow, for instance. The author of that note says Lady Killer is not useful because most of the human NPCs in the game are male, therefore Black Widow is a better option with a female character than Lady Killer is with a male character. That's wrong. No matter what sex you choose for a character, you will see that a majority of the human NPCs that you have to fight are the same sex as you. 67.172.16.255 22:37, 26 March 2009 (UTC) Well, except Enclave, because all armored Enclave are male. So, in effect, Black Widow is a bit better.70.108.200.119 22:25, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

My character is female and I have encountered a few female Enclave officers, but never once have I seen one of the armored enclave troops be female. Also I have never seen a female Talon Merc. Raiders seem to run about 50/50. So I would have to agree this perk would benefit female characters over male. As for the conversation options, I did most of the ones listed with a speech check anyway so I don’t know how much the usefulness of those are, perhaps if your speech is low it would benefit you. ReapTheChaos 06:48, February 1, 2010 (UTC)

The usefullness parts are for who it applies to. Just because some people do not use the perk does not make the usefull parts not usefull. The usefull parts are for people who do, or as incentive to. Hell, a gun's usefullness is to kill, but if someone played a pacifist character, the gun would not be usefull to their playstyle (counter in fact) but that does not debunk the usefullness of a gun for people who DO want to kill their enemies. Anomaly[]

It seems that if you use console to add the perk that the opposite sex gets (like blackwidow as a guy), the damage shown in the weapon menu adds 10%. However, it does the regular damage without the extra 10% when you hit something.

QUESTION: Getting Lady Killer and Black Widow[]

If I were to level up in Vault 101, get the Lady Killer perk, exit 101 and change my sex, could I get Black Widow outside of Fallout Wiki? Or vise-versa? I might test this later but if anyone else wants to pitch in, it would be appreciated. (Forgot to sign) --AwNNeR 5 21:05, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

I figured it out. You can not level up in Vault 101. You still gain experience and it still tracks it, but you can only level up in the Wasteland... unless someone knows how to level up before leaving Fallout Wiki.--AwNNeR 5 21:05, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

If you have the PC version, try manually adding the perk via console before leaving the vault and let's see what happens.Amitakartok 19:45, January 19, 2010 (UTC)

Female over male player character?[]

Throughout my gameplay of Fallout 3, I have come under the impression that most enemies (and by extent, most human NPCs) are male. Thus Black Widow may yield much more benefits in combat than Lady Killer. Am I an isolated case or is it really like this in the Capital Wasteland? --173.178.17.48 02:04, May 27, 2012 (UTC)

There's not enough female enemies for my taste, so I say Black Widow is more useful than Lady Killer in my book. My very rough estimate is about at least 60% male.Laclongquan (talk) 08:31, February 24, 2013 (UTC)

Yes - Black Widow is the one but really both are wasted perks. Only affects humans and they are weak and can be sneak one shot killed with the dart gun. Put your perk points elsewhere. Get Intense Training (i put 7 points in this) A good example of an extra dmge perk is Entomologist: +50%dmge to insects (including the radscorpions, which is important)

I don't know. In Fallout 3, with Broken Steel installed, Intense Iraining eventually becomes redundant because of Almost Perfect. Even with regard to qualifying for perks, your base SPECIAL allotment, plus 1 point of Intense Training (which you could take at 3rd level), plus 1 point of Luvk (from the lucky eight ball) should be enough to qualify for almost any build, if you plan it right. On the other hand, Black Widow continues to be useful throughout the game. Especially against those high level Hellfire Enclave troops (who are almost universaaly male.) Granted, this strategy depends on reaching 30th level, but a serious/metagamer/powergamer/whatever, would plan their character with this assumption anyway. That said, without Broken Steel (or in Fallout: New Vegas), Black Widow is definitely a weak choice.

Speech checks[]

Should we leave a note in the note section that nearly all of benefits of Black Widow dialogue checks in the game can be passed by having the proper speech skill (New Vegas), thus, negating the perk's dialogue-related benefits?

  • Chris Haverssam - 50 speech check
  • Swank - only real exception. Can't get his caps in any other method.
  • Benny - 60 speech check (among other methods)
  • Carlyle St. Clair III - 65 speech check
  • Old Ben - 50 speech check
  • Jack - 35 speech check
  • Dazzle - ?? speech check. Although Dazzle is somewhat an exception since the speech check for free service only counts during your first visit. Additional visits still cost 100 caps, opposed to a continual discounted 50 caps /w Black Widow.
  • Tyrone - 40 speech check
  • Dean, Your Brain, and Ricky - Nothing to gain from these checks so they don't really count for or against Black Widow. Left them out of the below percentages.

So there you have it, 75% to 87.5% of all the beneficial-checks using Black Widow can be passed by a speech check. It's really sad that the developers made perk taking every other level instead of every level like it was Fallout 3. Perks like Black Widow and the like get left in the dust because their terrible in relation to other perks. I'd love to take this perk just for the silly role playing nature of it all. But if your a serious player nearly all the dialogue bonuses are negligible and can be usually negated by a speech check. The only real time I can see taking this perk now is if you have no need to take the Intense Training perk.--69.205.180.81 10:58, May 27, 2012 (UTC)

That would be strategy, so I'd say no. Also, "Serious Player" is in the eye of the beholder... A roleplayer can be a serious player, the term I believe you're looking for is "metagamer" - someone who doesnt play the role/game as intended, but plays the rules system. Agent c 12:18, May 27, 2012 (UTC)
Ouch, the portion about the "serious player" thing was taken way too seriously/negatively. I was never trying to say people who role play aren't gamers or something like that. If anything, I was going more toward "power gamer", in the sense that the player is trying to get the most bang out of their character. You can still be a role player and a power gamer. My main point was that to a power gamer perks like Black Widow and their equivalents have little value because a high speech score can achieve nearly all of the same results. It can be argued that even a purist role player can see value in that, since a higher speech score (by getting Intense Training toward intelligence) would help them pass many other dialogue checks in the game as well.
But in any case I can see how it can be considered strategy and not simply informative, and therefore not worth adding to the page. --69.204.216.160 10:44, January 11, 2013 (UTC)

Synths[]

Are synths - specifically the third-generation models that masquerade as humans - affected by Black Widow? What about Harkness from FO3?
