Removed retarded note

Somebody posted this: "(It's actually because the wonderglue molds and gains weight thus turning to a solid)" as an explanation for why the gauntlet weighs twice as much as the seperate components combined used to make it. Wow. Firstly, glue does not get heavier when it hardens. Secondly, the sentence, as written, suggests that because the wonderglue molds, or because it gains weight, it turns into a solid. Molding is the same as turning into a solid; it isn't a cause-effect relationship. And gaining weight isn't what makes glue solid. Wow.


I read the reason for this it was something about deathclaw hand being pumped up with radiation and still growing long after dead.Confrimed by email i sent to Bethesda.

"The Deathclaw is probably a nod to Freddy Kreuger, the knife handed serial killer from Nightmare on Elm Street"... Really? The 8 foot tall, dinosaur-ish looking biped that hunts at night is a reference to a fictional movie character? I can see the resembelence if you dress your character right, but there is NO connection between Kreuger and a Deathclaw. Totally, just like how Power Armor is a complete nod to Halo which means that when Bethesda releases more DLC (maybe) that we will get the covenant as a new enemy. Notes section

Is the note regarding the condition percentages correct? It seems wrong on the surface.. 75%, 100% and 125%? I don't see any way to display (or measure) condition beyond 100%. Bsdasym 01:20, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

   It seems to in my game; since taking the Ninja Perk (with 10 Luck and the Finesse Perk) I score a critical 
   hit with every swing of the Gauntlet, so the principal seems sound.  Theoretically, you could so the same

General

Is there any way to prompt the random encounter with the wounded Deathclaw in the barn behind the vault? I've tried going there over 50 times. No dice, wasted about 30 minutes on this. I'm not exactly tech savvy, so if someone could float me some even seemingly obvious ideas it'd be much appreciated. Thanks! - WeHeartKatamari 21:54, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

I think this weapon might be a melee weapon, not a unarmed weapon. If you assign weapons to the d-pad buttons in the PS3 version it displays the weapon type as an icon. It accurately shows big guns with a mini-nuke icon, energy weapons as a lightning bolt, and so on. The icon for unarmed weapons is a fist (and this shows for powerfist, brass and spiked knuckles), but the Deathclaw Gauntlet shows as a tomahawk icon. The same icon used for baseball bats, tire irons, knives, and the like. Another indicator that it is not a unarmed weapon is my PC has high unarmed skill (68) and moderate melee skill(41). When I use spiked knuckles (12 DAM) she clearly does more damage than the Deathclaw Gauntlet (24 DAM). Do we have any evidence to the contrary? 76.103.182.3 15:46, 1 December 2008 (UTC) Grav

It can be affected by Iron Fist perk though.

Did you find this through experimenting or does the game mention it somewhere? Just curious. This might be interesting info to add to the page, I think. Kinda like a "glitch: it shows a melee icon when it is, in fact, unarmed." Whatever you think.

   The game simply adds in Iron Fist damage to the DMG stat when you're looking at the weapon; thus, having

Strange. The G.E.C.K. (editor) shows it on Form List "H2HWeaponsA", where everything else is obviously Unarmed (Brass & Spiked Knuckles, Power Fist, etc.). And its display(?) data appears to be in the H2H directory. But the weapon itself says it is of Melee type, unlike everything else on FLST H2HWeaponsA. Bug or not, it sounds like it might indeed actually be Melee? Ouch if it is, for players using it. But I am a GECK newbie and could be missing something. Also note, you may be able to use GECK to make it Unarmed... maybe. -RedKnight7 22:37, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
The weapon's "Equip Type" is Melee, but it does use the Unarmed skill (and, as mentioned earlier, is affected by Iron Fist). According to the GECK Wiki, Equip Type only affects the "categorization of the weapon used in game," which would probably explain the incorrect icon mentioned earlier as well. -Galahaut 19:00, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

I've amended the bit about the Super-Duper Mart being PS3 or 360 specific. I have the PC version and very first game got it out the front of the Super-Duper Mart (Deathclaw was already dead, but could have been fighting with Raiders before I got there, there were 2 still alive). 2nd and 3rd time around didn't happen, and the Raiders were always instead dead.--122.108.197.181 04:44, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

I can back up this claim. I encountered the event during the Wasteland Survival Guide quest to the Super-Duper Mart. This is on PC, playing on Very Hard difficulty. Less than three hours out of the vault and I see a Deathclaw, lucky me. The Deathclaw in question was near death (about 3 bars of HP left) and heavily crippled (both legs). All the Raiders that usually guard the Super-Duper Mart were found dead, with the Wasteland Settler's body nearby with the schematic. Dthvirus 22:56, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Question for those who have found the Random Encounter

Did anyone run into the random encounter with the schematics Settler while fast travelling to the location with the encounter? If we can get a confirmation of this, players looking for it can probably simply FT back and forth between two locations where it's been sighted, without having to reload, worry about whether they're at the right distance for triggering it, etc. So... can anyone recall FT'ing into the encounter? -RedKnight7 18:41, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Probably wouldn't work. Once a single random event has been triggered at a location, no more will trigger at that particular place. Thus, traveling back and forth between two locations would not trigger any new encounters after the first one at each. 68.209.248.80 07:43, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

   But as soon as you fast traveled there a random encounter would occur, so if you wanted a different random 
   encounter at that location than the one which first appeared, you would have to reload a previous save; fast 
   traveling to another encounter site and then fast traveling back would not trigger a new event.  As for the primary question, 
   yes, I have fast traveled into a variety of events, this one included.  It seems that after a significant period of in-game 
   time has passed (in my case ~3 weeks), some areas at least can be re-triggered for a new event: at Meresti Trainyard on my 
   present playthrough I have triggered the random encounter with Ghouls around a burning trash can, only to later fast travel

Hold down the 'F' Key and you can rotate the camera.

Wait, wait, wait! I thought you were unable to take the clothing off of children. Although it does have a striking resemblance to Freddy's sweater, you can't obtain it. If so, how? It would be so much easier if Bethesda enabled children to die in the game. Why would they do that? Mayor MaCready SO deserves to die!

All you have to do is reverse-pickpocket better apparel onto them, then wait for an hour and pickpocket the Athelete of the Wastes outfit off of them.

Okay I'm going to make a judgement call and move the "Note from Romania" here to the talk page..


Note from Romania

First I have found the ID from the Wastelander ( ID 32B31 ). Then I have used player.moveto 32B31. This is the strange part now. The game teleport me between Green Pastures Disponsal Site MDPL-13 Power Station, near a bridge. The problem was that the Wastelander wasn't there any more (only the Deathclaw), it like he had disappear. This happends only when you go near the fight ( Deathclaw and the Wastelander for the first time ) on that part of the map and you don't notice them. If you observe that in time, when you go into a place( and you have waste a Raider a long time ago ) when you get there the body is not there any more. So somehow, it happend to the Wastelander the same. Beeing killed by the Deathclaw and because you didn't go there for a long time, the game had made him somehow to say "disable". Now to get the schematics, type this commands in order. Prid 32B31-> Resurrect-> Enable-> Moveto player-> Or try this one Prid 32B31-> Resurrect-> Disable-> Enable-> Moveto player-> Or this one Prid 32B31-> Resurrect-> Moveto player-> Enable-> Or this one Prid 32B31-> Resurrect-> Disable-> Moveto player-> Enable-> Try to make him appear again. Now, when you have the schematics. Just type Kill. To make him die and you to not lose any Karma. This is not a cheat/cheating. Your using this commands to get the schematics, like in my example with the body that disappear. How could I know where he his, I have to search every couner of the game to find him, it possible to happend to you too, the Wastelander have dissapear, so how do you know where he is more exactly, if he had dissapear, your search him for nothing, you can not get him back only using the commands. So I have used the commands to find him more easy. Is just like I have found his body and took the schematics. This is just a'n example where the Wastelander possible to be. He can be anywhere on this map, but I have found him at this part of the location. Why I have done this at the end the last mission. Because at 50% of the game, if you type "prid 32B31" it possible to teleport you here. This is the place where all the random encounters. If you kill him there, possible that in he will not come back on the real map, because you have killed him there. Possible that he will stay in this part of the map and possible to crash your game. I have only this 2 Radom Encounters left that I have to face them in the real map.

And about barn behind Vault 101. I don't think that you gona find him there. I think you gona find there only the Wastelander with John's Key. There I have found only 2 times John's key and nobody else. I have the body 2 time with 4 dogs eating him, and atack me then. Yes it appear 2 body's in time, with the same John's key and the same note. First body I have found there at the beginning of the game, and the second body, again when I have read about the barn behind Vault 101, because to me too, I need the last Deathclaw Gauntlet schematics. Outside Rockopolis

Just got the random encounter with the Wasteland Settler the first time I exited Rockopolis. He was directly in front of the boulder. I guess Charon shot him as soon as we appeared because he died before I even moved. If it matters I had 1 other schematic from the camp ground trailer. Critical% Equation

"With its extremely high critical multiplier(5), high bonus damage from critical hits(+30), as well as its armor piercing ability, it can be devastating with Ninja perk. A player with 10 luck can score a critical hit very often with Ninja perk. ie (10%*5) + 15% = 65%. (plus the possibility of other bonuses)" --24.178.188.157

  • Looking for confirmation:
Is that really how the Ninja's perk bonus works? Is the bonus +15% after the fact? Or does it count as part of base luck crit%? Like the way finesse counts as part of our luck ((10+5)*5)=75. Well, according to this post (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/fallout3/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-47377733&pid=918428) someone who should be getting 100% crits without finesse but with ninja if it stacked in the ((luck+15)*5) way is not. mmmm, looks like I added the 15 one too many times... Well that's excellent actually, if its potentially 90% then I can test my character to see if he doesn't always get a critical-strike. (which I don't think is the case, but, I never really gave it a critical eye, god that was a bad pun). If I can land non-criticals inside of that 10% a few times it'll prove that the ninja perk is most definitely +15% after the fact. Ash Nuke AshRandom (Talk)

My last/first game on normal was all about energy/small guns. I'd like to melee/unarmed themed this time. Anyhow, I've been wondering about the functionality of paralyzing palms. Can you use it while wielding an unarmed weapon, or even armour? The description says completely unarmed..if that just means fists and no armor I can't think of a use for it :C.

Discussion over on the Sniper Rifles says that Critical% is dependent on weapon condition (final critical% * weapon condition% = actual critical%). Is that the case on Deathclaws, too? In other words, if a player has 5 luck and the Ninja perk, and he's using an 80% Deathclaw Gauntlet... will he critical 100% of the time, or just 80%? Some Sort 08:22, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

I tested this in Megaton with my character, who has just enough critical chance (17%) to hit 100% of the time in VATS with a 5x critical multiplier. Even with a poor quality gauntlet, I never failed to crit when hitting people in VATS. 24.65.35.146 20:19, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

damage

I been testing around with this weapons going up against deathclaws. Getav health reports they have 500 health. With sneak crit, they are 1 hit kills :D It seems that this weapon does 503 damage (normal diff, ninja, bettercrit, bloodymess, ironfist). It does 503 damage to supermute behemoth too, but they have 2000 HP, so it is just 1/4 of the health. The damage seem inconsistant when vs humans. May be it is because hitting different body parts?--LAffindude 22:57, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

-I been testing the weapon on mirelurks because of the note on the gauntlet should be used against them. It seems that ANY unarmed or melee weapon will do the full damage to mirelurks. My powerfist shows it does 43 damage in game, and it does exactly 43 damage per hit. Looking in geck will show you lurks have NO damage resistance, so no damage resist to ignore. The body part data says it gets 50% damage multiplier on the torso and that why they are tough to mow down. I am going to move the note here.

-It's also a must-have weapon for Mirelurk Hunters, since it completely ignores the Mirelurks' tough exoskeleton armor.

Repairing

Maybe it should be noted in the article how the weapon can be repaired.

Ignores damage resistance broken in PC version 1.5

Lol, this game is so buggy. Not only is the armor ignoring property of the DG broken (and any other weapon with that flag set, like the Man Opener), but even things like crits which are supposed to bypass DR don't. Tested in PC version 1.5 using the console. So let's make a list of non-functional crap:

1. All perks affecting vats chance to hit (FINALLY fixed in 1.5)

2. Ninja crit chance bonus not working (not fixed)

3. Armor ignoring damage not ignoring armor

4. Nerves of Steel broken (from Broken Steel DLC)

5. Literally pages of bugs listed in the Unofficial Fallout 3 patch notes.

I really like this game, but Bethesda's quality control is shit. How are you supposed to plan a character when half the game mechanics don't work properly? Athenau 03:06, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Does the fake 1.5 patch break the deathclaw gauntlet as well?

No idea, I'm not even sure that 1.5 "breaks" it. It may be that it never worked. It's hard to tell, because the only enemies with damage resistance are humans wearing armor, and the ones with a significant amount of DR are enclave/brotherhood soldiers. Strategy

  • With its extremely high critical percent multiplier (x5), high bonus damage from critical strikes (+30), as well as its armor piercing ability, it can be more devastating in the player's hands than when attached to a living Deathclaw!
  • This already deadly weapon becomes much more deadly when you have all three ranks of Iron Fist.
  • With the Ninja perk (+15%), a player with 5 Luck will always score a critical strike {[(15+5)*5]=100%}. However, the Ninja perk is broken. See its article for details.
  • Long before level twenty, players with 10 Luck, Finesse (+5%), and Survival Guru (+3%) will be able to critical almost as often {[(10+5+3)*5]=90%}.
  • Since VATS attacks add a flat +15% bonus it's possible to reach a 100% critical rate without the ninja perk.
  • However ingame test (360 version with patch 1.5.0.23) with a character with 5 Luck, finesse and survival guru perk. The result from 30 VATS hits: 21 crit hits, 9 normal hits. Despite (5+5+3+15)*5 = 140, it doesn't result in 100% critical hits.
    • This is actually an expected result as the 15% VATS bonus is added after the fact rather than in the critical multiplier: (5+5+3) * 5 = 65 + 15 = 80% critical chance in VATS

Shishkebab or Deathclaw Gauntlet?

So I have an Energy Weapons character whose level 16 right now, and I want a decent melee weapon to fall back on (I've been using a ripper). I finally found the deathclaw sanctuary so I raided it and got 11 deathclaw hands. I can finally make a deathclaw gauntlet, but I also have the shishkebab schematics. So I'm asking, which is better, the deathclaw gauntlet or the shishkebab for someone who is just going to use it occasionally


If i were i would use deathclaw gauntlet big damage diff and igonre armor. Shishkebab parts are harder to find as well.

With the game going up to lvl 30 the dc gauntlet is better since you can pick the iron fist perk 3 times. The shish with pyromaniac is still a force to be reconed with however, also many people actually prefer the unique ripper 'Jack' to both the dcg and the shish.--86.142.189.153 19:57, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

DCG + equipment stacking effect (Followers) + Hockey mask = One-hit Behemoths!

This glitch works w/ any follower (or so I am told). One could use a hockey mask to make a followers unarmed skill THROUGH THE GODDAMN ROOF and equip them w/ a DCG, similar to the CSA glitch. I've started over and am at the beginning of the game. Anyone wanna test this for me? (On PC, since you guys can check stats)
