Overlap?

Anyone know how to make this page not overlap like this: http://imgur.com/4lLQEUc It does it in Firefox, Internet explorer, and Chrome... no setting I've found seems to work to make it not overlap.

This is a problem we've been trying to fix for awhile. An ad that shows up on the page pushes content down which is causing the overlap. If you get adblock on chrome or firefox, you won't experience the overlap anymore. Shadowrunner(stuff) 22:05, 11 January 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for that, I'll check it out. FTR, I've been working around the overlap by going into the page's editing tool, then clicking on "preview", and going from there without saving.--Sigma1932 (talk) 08:57, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

Oblivion has to be way bigger.

BTW what sadistic base-tard numbered that list in hex? --76.88.1.26 11:11, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

  • You come up with a way to keep the font size legible and small enough to hold 3 characters and still not bump up the resolution of the map and you're free to use decimal all your little heart desires. It simply did not work with the specs I wanted -- and I made the map for *me* and my own needs and I decided to share. Therefor, I don't care what you think or what you want. -- The author.

How does the Fallout 3 world map compare to Oblivion? Which one would be bigger? --118.92.197.65 22:25, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

Same map with mouse-overs: Fallout 3 Map

Where did the background for this map come from? Mirar 08:43, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Looks like it's wasteland_2048_no_map.dds from the game assets with the scanlines turned green. Btw, no offense to the map's creator but the numbering scheme is less than optimal - add the font having similar 8/Bs etc to that and it's a bit annoying occasionally. Maybe we should take a shot at making a new one (which in addition could have mouse-overs like the one above). // Porter21 U | T 19:28, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Would it be worth having a reference on this page to the in-game map that can add all map locations to your Pip-Boy? Maybe as a note at the top of the page/under the map image along the lines of "To find out how to auto-complete the ingame map, see pagename"? Ponk 09:23, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Rewrite

I was considering maybe undertaking the task of making the map more user-friendly (such as adding horizontal and vertical coordinate markers, recoloring important spots like metro tunnels and cities, re-numbering the points, etc.) and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. --Turbine2k5 21:49, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Does anyone know what new points show up on your map from the DLC, and where they are located? Turbine2k5 (What I am... - What I hear... - What I do...) 22:50, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

OA only adds two markers to the Wasteland map, Outcast Outpost and Bailey's Crossroads Metro (see articles for location, they both have loc images). The other locations are on a seperate world map. // Porter21 U | T 23:11, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Operation Anchorage refers to Bailey's Crossroads as "Sector 7,B" so the "Battleship" co-ordinate system is indeed the correct one, but the placement is odd, Bailey's Crossroads is 2nd from the bottom, and 7th from the right,

so the Alpabetical co-ords are longitudal rather than lateral, and start from the Bottom going up for some reason, while the Numerical Co-ords are lateral, and go right to left.

would be great if the map here was updated to take this into account.

good work none the less, I hope it won't be too hard to make the change.

I don't quite understand what you mean, sorry. Where does Operation Anchorage refer to Bailey's Crossroads as "sector 7,B"? The coordinates given in the table correspond to our map. // Porter21 U | T 10:23, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

The Pitt tunnel is to the left of oasis —Preceding comment was unsigned. Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

Vault-Tec Headquarters are improperly marked in the table. It is marked as (16,13) but is really at (16,12). 70.190.158.11 04:06, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Imagemap

Converted this to an image map. This enables users to simply click on a location on the map and be taken directly to the respective location article. -- Porter21 (talk) 17:33, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

I just used the PSD of the map to make a scaled down version that is still readable. It was an older version of the map so the coordinates and the colored markers were lost. You can still read the markers when you have a version scaled down to 760 in width. Dcruze 15:57, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
Well, it's nice to be able to read the markers; however, all the image map coordinates would have to be redone (and frankly, I'm not doing it again - doing it once was tedious enough for me ;-)). Plus we'd lose all of Turbine2k5's improvements. Maybe ask him whether you can get his PSD and try to figure out a way to improve readability for the small version without changing the image dimensions? -- Porter21 (talk) 17:38, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Better-looking map (moved from sandbox page due to deletion)

The map itself could be better looking;

  • I don't agree with the serif font used for the coordinates
  • It would look better if it had two versions, one for the image-map and one full-size. You can hardly read what it says on the thumb-nail version.

Dcruze 15:07, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Not sure what you mean with "two versions" - you can simply click on the thumbnail symbol and are then taken to the full-size version of the picture (albeit without image map links).
The font question is really something which should rather be raised at Talk:Fallout 3 map - this sandbox page is just for converting the existing map to an imagemap. -- Porter21 (talk) 15:20, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
Well, it is scaled down and when you click on it you're taken to the full size version. What I mean is it would look better if there was a separate version for the small one (the one you immediately see when you go to the map article), where you could read the map markers. That might create problems with the image map later though. Dcruze 15:34, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
Well, probably I'm still not getting it :-) Once the image map is complete, you will see the image map when you go to the map article. Clicking on enlarge will take you to the full-size map (without image map links). So basically you want to be able to read the map marker designations (01, 4F etc) on the small version?
If so, that's going to be hard to do simply because the lack of readability is not really caused by downsizing but more by the small absolute font size. You can't really use a bigger font due to the map locations being so close to each other in the Washington area. -- Porter21 (talk) 16:04, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
I'd simply leave it as is and create a new page with a full scale (image)map and the location table underneath. You can then simply use the big one if you can't read the smaller version. Plus you don't have to create two sets of coordinates. -- Porter21 (talk) 16:08, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

I've changed the font for coordinates and made the map display slightly bigger, seems more readable to me now. -- Porter21 (talk) 18:37, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, that works fine :)

Map Base

How was the base texture for the map created? It doesn't look like pipboy screenshots. --Odie5533 10:29, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

The pop up ads are really annoying all over the site but especially here because it blocks out parts of the map and there is no way to exit out of them. Can you please put them as banner ads or at least have a way to exit them out? 75.56.55.185 20:02, 4 April 2009 (UTC) TheFrogger161

Unmarked: four double locations

Not that these locations are the most important ones, but not having them on the map may be confusing. In fact I thought first that they were not covered at all, despite the fact that they have a dedicated marker in the Pip-Boy map. I've indicated where it's possible in my opinion to place a distinct marker for these. I hope it's not too difficult to modify the map.

Here they are:

  • Dupont Northeast: right above Dupont East. There's an empty square you can fill here.
  • Georgetown West: technically in the same square as Dupont Station. The marker could be placed right under Dupont Station where there's an empty square.
  • Dukov's Place: should be on the right of Tepid Sewers. There's an empty square you could fill there.
  • Seward Square North Metro: diagonally on the bottom right of Seward Square Northwest. This one could be placed either on the right between this location and Ranger Compound, or just below.

Added. I've put Dukov's Place under the Tepid Sewers though, matter of opinion I guess ;) -- Porter21 (talk) 17:54, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

missing locations

i noticed there to be quite a few locations not listed on the map, one of which i noticed which should at least get mentioned is the sniper shack, which holds the rare Victory Rifle--Repeater

Well, technically they are not missing as the map primarily shows the locations which have map markers on the ingame map. However, I'll see about adding major unmarked locations in a future version. -- Porter21 (talk) 19:16, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
Ok thanks, the key can be quite misleading however when it says "yellow=unmarked locations". Thanks anyway though.--Repeater
Well, the two unmarked locations which are on the map are orange so it's not really misleading. It doesn't say "orange = all unmarked locations". -- Porter21 (talk) 23:46, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
Added The Raid Shack and Sniper Shack as they are both locations of unique weapons. -- Porter21 (talk) 09:17, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
guess im blind but i dont see them. did u upload the correct image?141.39.11.18 12:34, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
Yes, I did. The image cache for the downsized version hasn't updated yet (if you check the full size version at File:Wasteland Map 1.0.png you'll see it has the new locations), nothing I can do about that. -- Porter21 (talk) 12:37, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

Operation: Anchorage map points.

They're switched around on the map, I've switched them in the table below already, but you may want to edit the map to show them properly. Bailey's Crossroads Metro is northeast of Outcast Outpost. Also, the outpost is on the left side of the line between Y11 and Y12, thus I believe it should be in the middle right box of (11,16). TearsOfBlood 01:28, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Looks like L'Enfant Plaza is way off in this map- shouldnt it be further northwest, closer to the actual map location? L'enfant south should also be to the NW as well.203.206.63.59 07:07, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

You're right, seems like I overlooked these when I moved the other misplaced ones. Corrected now. -- Porter21 (talk) 08:46, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

another location missing

vault 112 isn't on the map. i guess it's not a huge deal, but i figured i'd point it out for the sake of completeness —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.197.140.199 (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

Vault 112 doesn't have a map-marker in-game (it's considered part of Smith Casey's Garage), and thus it doesn't have a map marker on the site's map. --Sentinel 101 14:32, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

I have found a bomb storage and there is a block door there with out key i can't enter and can't find it. It isn't in pipboy map (unmarked) and you have not eneterd in in the map too. and i really need help there.

Is it possible someone can get a printer-friendly version for the simple "wastelanders" who don't maintain a username on the wiki? map showing general level of enemies

Is that somewhere on the Fallout 3 wiki and I missed it? Cuz until the dlc comes out for PS3 I'll only be able to get to level 20, and so as to not waste anymore xp on my first PC, I'm going to make a new character and head west. I know that's where the yao gui (I know I misspelled the hell out of that) and death claws are, so I'll have to be careful. It's just I only really walked around downtown my first game, and having to find subways because my character couldn't climb rubble my un-athletic ass could scale in real life pissed me off to no end. Any help would be much appreciated, and I'll keep looking on my own.

Suggest move from number by number to letter by number grid ref

I would like to suggest moving from a number by number grid to a letter by number grid - basically, the same as this one: http://www.beesandgoats.com/fallout/falloutmap.html It is a hell of a lot clearer to cross ref a location than trying to remember which number is across and which is vertical. For example (in your head), 4,10 is where? But D,10 is very clear. Also, most street directory maps use a letter by number system for a good reason - so do chess boards. If required, I would be happy to help with the conversion of the map.

Hmmm. While you are correct as far as the map coordinates go, the fact that a letter-number combo has been chosen to designate the map-markers complicates things. Let's wait and see what some other editors think.--Gothemasticator 08:21, January 30, 2010 (UTC)
i think the number letter thing would be best, it is very annoying thinking "3, 13" and then forgetting which is vert and which is horiz {{SUBST:Signatures/Baalazmon}} 03:02, May 9, 2010 (UTC)
I agree. I was constantly flipping back and forth between game and map because I kept forgetting which number was up and which was across. Something to keep in mind when doing a map for New Vegas anyway. --97.73.64.152 16:54, September 26, 2010 (UTC)

112

Vault 112/ tranquility lane is missing on this map. i have no idea of the precise location but it should besouth-west of the map and it isn't.

  • It is marked - as the in-game name of the entrance point, try marker J9, or map ref 3,13 (or is that map ref 13,3??) 202.134.241.213 08:47, February 7, 2010 (UTC)
Yeap, Vault 112 doesn't have a marker on the ingame map which is named as such, basically because it doesn't have a direct access to the world map - you have to go through Smith Casey's Garage to get there, and the marker is hence called "Smith Casey's Garage" both on the ingame and our map. -- Porter21 (talk) 18:15, February 7, 2010 (UTC)
