Talk:Gary 666

From The Vault - Fallout Wiki
Jump to: navigation, search

Why was this page made? The game guides are made from secondary sources before the games even finished, and are only semi-canon, at best. The characters on pg.22 were never meant to be canonical major character choices for New Vegas, and were merely example characters created like the ones on Bethesda's website when looking under Fallout 3.

Not even mentioning the baffling speculation added to this page, which assumes that just because his name is Gary, he's related to the Gary clones from Fallout 3 (the 666 is irrelevant, since many people add stuff like that to their name to seem threatening). 20:38, 12 January 2014 (UTC)

While I don't agree with it being unnecessary (we're not considering them to be canon but just a prefab character for the player to make), I do agree with unneeded speculation. That should be trimmed down. Shadowrunner(stuff) 20:44, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
While official guides were never meant to be fully canon, they are official supplement materials for respective games. This wiki features many information taken from official game guides, e.g. Harold's birth year. As for the speculation, the character named Gary + a number is clearly a reference to FO3 clones (even more since David S.J. Hodgson wrote the FO3 guide as well). I've stated that it is unknown if he's one of those clones. If you think this statement to be an unneeded speculation, you're free to rewrite the section. As for {{delete}} template, I'll wait for some time to see if anyone else thinks the page should be deleted. veryblackraven 20:51, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
That's an assumption, Raven. The very definition of 'speculation' is someone thinking their perspective is correct without actual evidence (in our cases, sources). And I did note and appreciate that you wrote in that it's unknown. But even mentioning it is speculative, as it drives readers to drawing the same conclusion(s). As for the rest... I suppose I agree. It just seems like a lot of strategy to me to add article-pages telling players how to optimize certain builds - builds that weren't even created by Obsidian/Zenimax in the case of NV. I know I'm nitpicking here, and I'm sorry for that. But I tend to be a stickler for policies, and strategy is a big topic covered by them that I like to keep consistent. 21:07, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
