Mentats!!! yeah there so cool!!!!

The first tim i saw mentats the first thing that popped into my mind was mentos. In fallout 3 when the player takes mentats it makes a crunching sound. When you chew mentos they dont crunch but they are also the same color. So basicly what im saying is Nuka-cola is to coka- cola as mentats is to mentos. does anyone els think this is true? 166.214.131.146 02:36, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

No, it's a reference to Dune's mentats, the manputers. If you played Fo1, you'd know that. http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/fallout/images/thumb/5/5c/Scribe.jpg/15px-Scribe.jpg Tagaziel (call!) 08:07, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
I agree, and I'm taking out the Mentos trivia addition. How exactly do the pictures of Mentats on the article page "resemble" Mentos packaging here and here?--Gothemasticator 17:41, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
I considered that perhaps the Fallout 3-only addition of flavored mentats might be a nod to the candy. However, though there are orange and grape mentos, there is no "berry" flavor. And there is nothing in the wording of the flavored mentat descriptions that brings up mentos. I remain unconvinced.--Gothemasticator 19:37, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
So, who determined that your opinion is the "right" one? If 9/10 people think they refer to Mentos, it should be removed just because YOU don't think so? WTF. You have no evidence that they're NOT a reference to Mentos in addition to Mentats. It's not the packaging that looks the same, it's the pill itself. Based on the FO 1&2 they're flat and round and look exactly like a Mentos candy. And saying that the flavors don't mean anything because they're aren't the EXACTLY the same is just making a dumb excuse so you can be a Wiki Nazis about something you don't personally agree with. Howsabout you consider the fact that you shouldn't determine what people get to believe.
The majority isn't always right. It's a reference to Mentats from Dune, nothing else. Occam's Razor. http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/fallout/images/thumb/4/4a/Naglowaa_se.gif/11px-Naglowaa_se.gif Tagaziel (call!) 09:16, November 7, 2009 (UTC)
Says who? Have a source, or are you just on some power trip like ever other wiki jackass that thinks his opinion should be the only opinion? The majority is right more often than one arrogant jerkoff that thinks he's knows better than everyone else.
Mentos adverts appeared in 1991. Mentats appeared in Dune in 1965. Go figure. http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/fallout/images/thumb/4/4a/Naglowaa_se.gif/11px-Naglowaa_se.gif Tagaziel (call!) 09:01, November 30, 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, Grizzly.--Gothemasticator 09:59, November 7, 2009 (UTC)
Actually yes there are "berry mix" Mentos, I saw some when I went to the gas station for my post-work coffee today. EDIT: oh and by the way, the infobox for the FO3 mentats section got screwed up somehow WouldYouKindly 19:43, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
There is a "berry mix" pack that does not include any flavor called "berry." There is a cherry flavor, but no "berry." My point being that there is nothing about the three flavors orange, grape and berry that specifically point to mentos.
This is still a disgusting example of Wiki Nazi behavior. I love how the wiki admins don't have to source their supposed facts, yet everyone else does. I'm still waiting for that evidence that proves these are a reference to Mentats from Dune and not Mentos candy, since you're soooo privy to the designers' thoughts.

And, I don't see anything wrong with the info box. What are you seeing?--Gothemasticator 20:26, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

It's not showing the name at the top correctly for me, it just says "name?". Hang on, I'm going to restart firefox and make sure it isnt just firefox being retarded again. EDIT: nope, I restarted firefox, cleared my cookies, temporary files and everything, so it's not firefox doing itWouldYouKindly 20:50, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
Interesting. It displays fine for me. I just made several edits, too. Maybe you were checking while I was editing, and that caused a temporary glitch? Is it still displaying wrong for you?--Gothemasticator 20:59, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
Nope, it's still showing wierd... odd, but I can live with it, since it only seems to affect this page scratch that actually, its affecting the "orange mentats" page too, but nothing else, very strange WouldYouKindly 21:03, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Omitted Section:[edit source]

Category: Bullshit Pardon my language but this section is complete, and utter crap! There is no Jared Simms and Mentats don't raise explosives! Mentats are important at the beginning of Fallout 3; Jared Simms suggests indirectly that the PC should buy some to help him/her with disarming (or, alternatively, detonating) the Megaton bomb. The Mentats can help raise the PC's Explosives skill level above the 25 necessary for this task, as they may have very low skill levels if, as expected, this mission is done near the beginning of the game.

  • Mentats have a temporary effect on Perception (which modifies the Explosives, Lockpick and Energy Weapons skills). Accordingly, the +5 modifier on perception should equate to a +10 modifier on Explosives. This is also mentioned on the Power of the Atom quest page for boosting your explosives skill over the 25 minimum required regardless of whether intending to disarm or detonate the bomb. Perhaps the Simms reference is actually referring to Lucas Simms? 115.69.161.101 08:34, February 17, 2010 (UTC)
  • Added back into article after a re-word. Lucas Simms does indeed provide a bomb-specific dialogue reference about using chems to help with nerves. Checking with Doc Hoff also offers an option to question regarding chems to aid with concentration, and these point to Leo Stahl; who can offer Mentats to the PC.   phoenix  txt  xp  04:52, March 9, 2010 (UTC)

Mentats as Ingredients[edit source]

Aren't Mentats used to make (a) Atomic Cocktail, and (b) Party Time Mentats?

I saw a reference to Party Time mentats on the article, but I did not read about Mentats being an ingredient in making these two items.
