Laser Shotgun[]

That's all that really needs to be said. This thing is the most fun I've had with a Fallout weapon ever. I carry it around and love it almost as much as Dogmeat. :D --Kajex Firedrake 05:04, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

This weapon is ludicrously fun to use. And yeah, it's like a laser shotgun, except with better accuracy (good up to mid range, decent after that), crit chance, rate of fire, AP cost, and WAY better reliability. Tied for best energy weapon along with A3-21's plasma rifle and Vengeance, IMO. Athenau 16:02, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

Vengeance is considered a big gun, not energy weapon

It's better than A3-21's plasma rifle in my opinion. Lasers are instant hits while plasma rounds need to travel to hit their target. This makes all the difference when you're strafing and the enemy moves a lot. Plus, you'd have to be almost blind to miss with this thing. Lastly, this is much, much, much easier to repair than a the plasma rifle. Laser rifles are sold by vendors everywhere, but you'll need to hunt down enclave to find plasma rifles... and even then, they often carry laser rifles instead! So yeah, this gun rocks! 72.235.91.236 06:08, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

I Love Shotguns and Lazers This is both so i needed it i got it and the wasteland hasnt been teh same Lol --The Merc 16:05, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

best overall weapon in the game IMO sneak attack critical OWNAGE.--Warhammerork 01:30, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Is the article wrong? It says that Everett said he pryed the Metal Blaster (A.K.A. The coolest weapon in the world) from Mr. Genius's cold dead hands, but when in the game does he mention that? I've gotten the M.B. before and he never said where he got it, did I just not do the right phrase for him to explain where he got it? Or are you guys suddenly jumping to conclusions? -- Me 6ish, someteenth May '09 (UTC) whatever that stands for.

He does say it. You proberly just skipped the dialogue. Fat Man Spoon 22:26, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

Hell yeah. This is the best close-medium range weapon in the entire game. Powerful DPS, easy to repair, ammo is everywhere, what more can I say? Love it. --82.104.11.44 22:34, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

Metal Blaster vs. The Terrible Shotgun[]

Both of these weapons can score multiple full damage critical hits in sneak attack mode. Which one ends up having the highest damage out of them all, if all bullets/beams connect?

Terrible still does more dmg, but Metal Blaster has a smaller spread and is great for energy weapons players, and is much much easier to repair.68.192.9.90 19:34, September 12, 2009 (UTC)ASDF

For most characters (depends slightly on perks and crit rate, but not much due to their similar attack properties, assumes equal levels of Small Guns and Energy Weapons): Advantages of Terrible Shotgun - ~11% more damage per hit, 50% more damage on sneak attack critical if all pellets hit (1240!), easier to repair at low levels before you fight Enclave, ammo is cheaper.

Advantages of Metal Blaster - ~20% higher DPS due to its faster firing rate, lower spread, more action point efficient, almost three times as much health, easier to repair at high levels.--Ocdscale 00:44, October 30, 2009 (UTC)

The metalblaster is better than the terrible shotgun yes a3-21s no i would tryst a3 21s before the meatal blaster. Dont get me wrong they are both good weapons but i think a3 21s is better--Lord case 16:23, October 29, 2009 (UTC)Lord Case--Lord case 16:23, October 29, 2009 (UTC)

Metal Blaster vs A3-21 is an apples to oranges comparison. They're both good enough to be your standard assault weapon, but they really serve two different purposes. A3-21 is for ranged/vats fighting. The Metal Blaster is for unloading damage up close. If I could only have one weapon in the game, the A3-21 is the better choice because it is more versatile. But there's no such limitation. Up close (all perks, max crit rate), the Metal Blaster can unload ~454dps into the backside of an Albino Radscorpion, the A3-21 does ~352. Doesn't make the Metal Blaster better, because the A3-21 dominates the Metal Blaster in ranged shootouts, even more so if you're using VATs.

If you really want to replace/compare the A3-21 with a DLC weapon, compare it to the MPLX Novasurge in Mothership Zeta.--Ocdscale 00:44, October 30, 2009 (UTC)

A3-21's rifle is terrible at long range b/c of that damn slow green goey plasma thingy it shoots. I'll take the Metal Blaster anyday of the week, A3-21's is only good in close range (b/c the speed of the plasma isn't as much of a drawback, but the Blaster outclasses it at close range anyway) or in VATS. 98.249.220.131 18:58, November 7, 2009 (UTC)

damage per shot?[]

does this do 55/9 damage per shot, or 55 * 9 damage total? Dragonjts 14:25, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

NM, stupid question Dragonjts 13:25, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
Actually it's not stupid. It does 55/9 damage per beam, BUT, each beam has a separate chance to score a FULL-DAMAGE critical hit. With an 18% crit chance (10 luck, finesse, survival guru) you'll be getting (not strictly accurate, but good enough averaged over large numbers of shots) 2.43 crits per shot for an additional 97 damage (with better criticals) added to that base 55. Of course that's IF all beams hit. Athenau 01:33, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Does Ghoul Ecology/Superior Defender affect each beam (+45 total damage)?--69.200.247.132 16:03, October 29, 2009 (UTC)

bug?[]

Ok I wen't up to Bethesda Ruins to exploit the US:30 Handy Flamethrower something something bug, and each time I crit-killed someone to ashes, their ashes stayed. The enemies did respawn, but their ashes are still there and I can't click into them. I don't really wanna use this weapon if everytime I ash someone they're gonna stay there forever. 81.234.140.17 17:10, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

I've experienced the same bug.67.211.81.140 18:12, 22 April 2009 (UTC)Cavesloth

This happens with any laser or plasma weapon. The ashes or goo pile stay there forever. You can then pickpocket the live enemie through the ash or goo. Fat Man Spoon 10:16, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

... Irritating? *sigh* Hope they fix it in a future patch. 81.234.140.17 18:08, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

If your on PC, the unofficial patch fixes that. DragonJTS 18:11, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Other bug perhaps? I noted that after several shots into a gas fume the cloud did not go off (AKA set the place on fire). Does the Metalblaster fire a different kind of laser (coded differently from the original one) or is this a bug that all laser weapons can suffer from? -- Radnus 02:50 April 4 2009 CET

I believe that's mentioned in the article, that the lasers from the Metal Blaster don't set off gas traps, but firing the weapon when it's immersed in gas will. EDIT- I lied, but it used to be in there.Wanderer Lao 00:51, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

Best. weapon. ever.[]

I love this rifle. It's my two favorite guns in one!

yeay

Damn laser rifles...[]

As a result of my good karma, I decided not to blow up the citadel and I need to remain friendly w/ the outcasts b/c I need to exploit Casdin. Now that I'm level 30, all Enclave troops have plasma weapons instead of laser weapons so I can't farm them, and Fort Bannister doesn't respawn Talon mercs (glitch/bug?). Is there anywhere I can find a steady source of laser rifles other than merchants (I need to carry alot at a time b/c I use the metal blaster frequently) 68.192.9.90 00:09, November 13, 2009 (UTC)

i need 9 more ingots for the rifle but the place with the huge pile of ingots is glitched. i fall into the building to get to the ring like bridge. its like i cant ever get there is there any mor ingots that are easy to find?( got 41 ingots)

If you mean you are falling to death, save just before impact, and then reload.Vault 815 02:04, March 4, 2010 (UTC)

Besides buying/scaving, you might be out of luck. your save sounds majorly glitched, though. you might want to considering to starting from scratch. Oh, I feel your pain on the glitched pit roof, I think it has something to do with point lookout. I just use the TLC commnad to get those. 24.253.217.206 13:44, August 6, 2010 (UTC) TM95

Am I the only one that has 12 laser rifles so far? Anyway, if you don't care about the BoS just kill them, the have laser rifles. Talon mercs have them, usally and can be found(spawn every few days)just south of Arlington Library. Regulators, too. --TheReaver74 05:25, January 22, 2011 (UTC)

Metal blaster - Tri-beam laser rifle - Terrible shotgun[]

wich one is the best in terms of durability, damage, ap cost, damage per second, damage per projectile, value, critical damage, critical multiplier and spread?

It's all reltive to your stats, but I prefer the Metal Blaster. What is your energy weapons skill? Do you use vats alot? do you have a high repair? in general -

The Metal Blaster is the better energy weapon outside of vats, with the best range of the 3, but lower damage the Terrible Shotgun, it is also easy to repair, with Laser Rifles being plentiful. It also has a huge clip, allowing long firefights without a reload.

Tri-Beam Laser Rifle are the best vats weapon over all, and does good damage but it is still lower than the TS (albeit with much, MUCH better range) and difficult to repair, as you can only get them off overlords.

The Terrible Shotgun does the most damage at point blank, bar none. not only that, but it also has the most plentiful repair item (Combat shotguns) and the cheapest ammo. But, it has atrocious range, requiring you to be right on top of the enemy to get full effect, even in vats. Not to mention how quickly it degrades- If you can't keep feeding it shotguns, it will fall apart before you know it. Still a fantastic gun for small gunners, and holds it own against the other 2 if only for it's ludicrous damage plus it's super cheap and common ammo.

Personally, I like to run and gun, and I stick with the metal blaster.24.253.217.206 13:57, August 6, 2010 (UTC) TM95

EASY OVERLORD LOCATION 3 words. Mason. Dixon. Salvage. A friend of mine switched it to Very Easy (which I later set back to Normal) and 3 of the things showed up, 2 of which carried Tri Beam Laser Rifles.

Personally, I like the Tri Beam better. Yes it consumes more ammo and is harder to repair, but it makes up for it with a truly pleasantly large base DAM stat of 75. Metal Blaster's 55 is nice, so is the common critical hit, but with the "Ash/Goo Pile never goes away" bug COMBINED with a 360? I'll stick with TBLR
