Dinosaur appearance[]

Is it just me, or does the dinosaur remind anyone of the dinosaur from "Peewee's Big Adventure"? Aryeonos 16:34, October 20, 2010 (UTC)

its based on the same ones. Omggivemaafningusername 20:25, November 1, 2010 (UTC)

The Dinosaurs of Cabazon, actually in CA http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cabazon_Dinosaurs
Also, is the dinosaur's thermometer based that of the LA-to-Vegas-Stopoff-Town (no offense to any residents) of Baker, home of the World's Tallest Thermometer? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baker,_California CaTigeReptile 01:38, November 27, 2010 (UTC)

Safehouse?[]

Does the Dino Dee-lite motel room become a permanent safehouse? - Namelesswalaby 20 October 2010 1457hrs

Says here[1], that it is a ownable, permanent housing for the player and that the Safe and items inside don't respawn so it is safe to put your stuff there Vekspec 22:18, October 26, 2010 (UTC)

The livestock killer[]

I saw the Nightkin do it, and I watched him walk away and tried to talk to the Farmer guy but I didn't have anything to tell him. Then I went back the next night and saw the nightkin kill the rest of the brahmin and when he started to run I killed him. I found the recording in his inventory and still I have nothing to tell the farmer. Is anyone else having this problem?

--I went ahead and killed the Nightkin the first time I saw him (only one Brahmin dead), read the note, and then talked to the Farmer. Resolved the quest just fine. 68.46.217.112 22:57, October 22, 2010 (UTC)

After killing Nightkin and finding the note, I restarted the quest and opted to pick-pocket the tape instead, thinking that would put an end to the quest (without having to kill him). The note made it sound (to me) that he was haunted because of the tape. I thought simply removing it should be enough to stop him from his killing spree. When I went to talk to Dusty, all I could tell him was that I didn't find anything yet. Then I thought maybe I had to steal the minigun off him too, but once I did that, it still showed him with it! Bug alert! --Deboriole 06:23, October 23, 2010 (UTC)

The only way to end this unmarked quest seems to be killing the Nightkin. Created a separate unmarked quest page for the Midnight Ranch Attacks. If you kill the Nightkin after all theBrahmin are dead - it may not end the quest for you. But it appears you can only finish the quest by killing him. Cheers KermEd 22:01, October 23, 2010 (UTC)

Removed Spoilers (Correction: Reworded)[]

Removed spoiler regarding Jeannie May, repaired some spelling mistakes. Cheers KermEd 07:03, October 24, 2010 (UTC)

We don't remove spoilers. We're an encyclopedia. Please don't make such removals again.--Gothemasticator 07:11, October 24, 2010 (UTC)
Whats the big deal about changing 'death of Jeannie May' to 'Following the quest XXX shes unable to ...'. If you have such an issue with my changes let me know - I'll be happy to quit making edits. I shouldn't have said 'REMOVED' I 'EDITED/REWORDED' and it is technically more correct following my edits. This page (technically) has nothing to do with her death in the game as a character but rather is triggered by the completion of a quest. Not to mention the grammatical / spelling errors I fixed at the same time. KermEd 07:16, October 24, 2010 (UTC)
<sigh> Nevermind, you reverted the entire thing (spelling fixes and everything) to try and make a point. Whatever, peace I'm out :) I deleted all your talk messages - next time you have a problem with me, message me directly. Posting issues about a person on their Talk Page is akin to pointing fingers for everyone to see and encourages new users to leave. Its not the type of environment I would cultivate or wish to be a part of. Enjoy your wiki. Cheers, KermEd 07:39, October 24, 2010 (UTC)
Why would anyone be reading this site if they have an issue with spoilers? This entire Wiki is basically one very in depth walkthrough, of course it has spoilers. No offence but I found that funny.ReapTheChaos 01:47, November 6, 2010 (UTC)
The article is about the town, not quests within the town. Some people might just want to find noteable loot and explore related quests for themselves. No reason to not try and keep unrelated spoilers to a minimum.

Bugs[]

(360) Had to randomly reload saved games a few times because after doing the Nightkin mission the dialog option to lead Jeannie May to in front of the Dino was not there...V.A.T.S. addict 01:48, October 27, 2010 (UTC)

Move Gibson Scrap Yard section[]

I think (most of) the section about Gibson Scrap Yard should be moved to the Gibson Scrap Yard page. Anyone object?

Notable Loot section.[]

The notable loot section states specific skill mags bring in mail boxes, I was under the assumption that mailboxes, like other containers, spawned randomly?

I keep seeing this on several pages, someone will say a mailbox, locker, hollowed out rock, metal box or duffle bag contains a specific item. I thought these were all randomly generated?ReapTheChaos 01:51, November 6, 2010 (UTC)

It is random. Please feel free to fix those whenever you see them. --Kris User Hola 01:56, November 6, 2010 (UTC)

Possible Movie Reference[]

Yesterday, I saw the movie Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Around the 00:47:12 mark, there is a "No Vacancy Motel" sign, of which only the letters "No Vac" light up... The others are broken. Coincidence? :) --DanTheHitman 07:59, November 23, 2010 (UTC)

Coincidence.--Gothemasticator 13:04, November 23, 2010 (UTC)

Cass spelling[]

When I went to Novac with Cass she said something about it and the subtitles said "NoVac" with the V being a capital letter. Could there may be more ways of spelling Novac? CHIEF Talk to me 10:58, December 7, 2010 (UTC) NoVac is how it SHOULD be spelt. As No and Vacany are separate words.99.135.24.71 00:14, January 21, 2011 (UTC)

Closest Campfire?[]

I most of my runs, the Novac motel room invariably becomes my main stash due to having 2 local merchants plus a roving trader, a doctor, both a workbench and reloading bench across the street, no nearby hostiles and the bonus of the motel room being really close to the fast travel point. The only thing missing is a campfire. So which is the closest and convenient campfire to haul all my accumulated ingredients to for a crafting/cooking spree? Even though I'm on PS3, I'm also curious about what it'd take to mod the burning barrel fire that's in front of the tent in Novac to a campfire(As it should always have been!). Dr. Lobotomy 00:29, December 9, 2010 (UTC)

I have also been wondering this. It really doesn't seem like there are any campfires within a reasonable distance, though I have a few suggestions. For one, there's a campfire in Nelson, which should be perfectly safe if you've completed Restoring Hope. For some reason, though, I always hate going there. There's also a campfire in Gibson's Shack, which is probably the closest campfire, but I tend to avoid it because my game often freezes on the loading screen when I try to enter (thankfully, I didn't encounter the bug until after I completed "I Could Make You Care"). Lastly, there's one at El Dorado Gas & Service, which is a long straight walk to the north. It was inconvenient at first, until I discovered the usefulness of the Gecko Kebab, and started scouring El Dorado Dry Lake for Jalapeno Peppers every time I was ready to go on a crafting spree. So, if you like cooking Geckos, I guess that one's a pretty good choice. Science-Doer 08:05, December 13, 2010 (UTC)

There's an even nearer one to the NW. From motel head roughly NW, passing the water tower on your way out of town. About an equal distance beyond the water tower you'll see what looks like a small radio tower on a hill - there's a cave right beyond that with a campfire. Probably deserves to be mentioned in the main article. Cattlesquat (talk) 21:24, March 26, 2016 (UTC)

Gecko Attack[]

I find that a Fire Gecko occassionally spawns in front of the tent behind and to the right of the player upon fast traveling to Novac. It then makes quick work of the brahmin and any citizens near it. When this happens, I load the auto-save from before I fast-traveled, and try it again. The Fire Gecko usually doesn't appear the second time, but sometimes it does. I haven't seen it appear a consecutive third time. I've also noticed that every time this occurs, a tumbleweed spawns directly in front of me at the same time, but I'm not sure if the appearance of the tumbleweed is related to the appearance of the Fire Gecko. Is this a bug? Or is it an intentional random encounter in which Novac is attacked by a Fire Gecko whilst the player is distracted by an oncoming tumbleweed? Science-Doer 08:16, December 13, 2010 (UTC)

I think this a bug, I've never seen a Fire Gecko there before and I played FNV several times. You can see this type of thing happen for example, after you cleaned Quarry Junction and fast-travel to the Khan encampment where Melissa is: sometimes a Giant Radscorpion spawn exactly where you arrive (and is a friggin big one with 2 or 4 poison glands, so it hurts if you were bited by him). I've seen a lot of this things, the first time you go to Crashed Vertibird site with Arcade, sometimes the area is deserted, without the robots around. But when you return a second time, they are there. Brfritos 14:01, January 11, 2011 (UTC)
I concur. I've never had a fire gecko spawn anywhere near me when fast-traveling to Novac, but almost every time I fast-travel to the Mojave Outpost, a giant radscorpion and a bark scorpion both spawn upon arrival. And the giant radscorpion is always right behind my character, so it's lucky for me that I have companions to literally watch my back! Furthermore, some of the carcasses and goo piles left by past spawned enemies in this particular location remain forever, and become "inaccessible" (i.e. the icon normally associated with being able to loot a fallen enemy comes up, but activating the body or goo pile does nothing). This sort of thing seems more like an intentionally random spawning system that gets "stuck" for certain locations. EganioTalk 19:35, January 26, 2011 (UTC)

Removed part in notes[]

I removed the part in the notes section because it was written in an I sort of statement. "Not shown on my save" Let me know if it should be there or anything.--Blahmarrow 23:31, March 6, 2011 (UTC)

Corrupt saves[]

On two different playthroughs I found my game crashing when I exited two different buildings: 1st I left a motel room, the second time happened today on my second time playing new vegas and I just left the gift shop. These are the only occurrences I've seen of corrupt saves in my game and they were both in Novac. Also on both occasions I didn't buy the rocket souvenirs and it was my first visit to the town. So I think Novac is one of the most dangerously glitched places in New Vegas. 98.165.111.63 08:49, April 23, 2011 (UTC)

I encountered this many a time in Novac, the Dinobite gift shop is particularly notorious for it. Decoy906 19:51, February 18, 2012 (UTC)Decoy906

Is it "loosely based" on Baker, California?[]

Is it really based on Baker? The only similarity seems to be that both have big thermometer but Baker is well into Cal. and looks nothing like Novac. I agree with the guy who did a real world tour of FNV, it's a fictional location made up of elements from real places. http://www.falloutnewvegastour.com/2011/04/location-08-novac.html Bwilderbeast 09:11, May 24, 2011 (UTC)

Fear and Loathing in New Vegas[]

It might just be me, but i think one of the motel rooms is a reference to Fear and loathing in Las Vegas. There are various drugs all over the room, and a skeleton in the bath. Seems like a reference to the scene with Dr. Gonzo in the bath-tub

Couple of errors in this paragraph[]

"The Dino Dee-Lite hotel room you can acquire is located up the stairs on the immediate left once entering the Hotel Compound. Inside is a bed and storage facilities that are safe to store your items in (except the briefcase next to the door and the garbage can in the bathroom)."

Two errors in the above paragraph, highlighted in bold:

1) Dino Dee-Lite is a motel, not a hotel. 2) The briefcase and the garbage can inside the motel room are perfectly safe to store items.--174.0.106.101 12:11, July 13, 2011 (UTC)

Novac's Name[]

I'm pretty sure Novac got its name from the fact that it is a motel of sorts and "No Vacancy" may have been turned into "Novac" (you wouldn't name a town No Vacancy, right?)
