Really? That Hard?[]

Every page regarding Plik's safari, from the related characters to the actual quest page, goes out of its way to mention that both friendly characters (Ripper, Business Suit Guy) will most probably die. I played on hard and used the Metal Blaster, and both made it through fine. Am I lucky? Good? --RedTracer7 15:23, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Well, with Broken Steel, you get the fucking reavers after you. Fat Man Spoon 15:25, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I wrote those. They die alot. There's a hell of a lot of ghouls, and their equipment isn't that good. Granted, you can save them, but there's no reward, and it's hard to do. Nitpicker of the Wastes 15:26, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
Ah, I always forget about the reavers. My char was at 23-24 when I did the quest, and the worst I got were roamers. --RedTracer7 15:31, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
I went through at 27 on normal difficulty and didn't see a single reaver. Did have 6 glowing ones on screen at one point, but it's hardly the same.--Moltenfungus 15:35, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
confirmed on 360 lvl 28, no reavers--68.191.39.24 12:12, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
BTW, what do you get for repeating the quest? If anything?
The only reward is the exp. gained from killing the ghouls. It needs to be noted though, after you've completed it the first time it only costs 500 caps after that.
They still died for me, though if I had tried to get rid of the ghouls more quickly (I was just screwing around with the slo-burn flamer), you can save them. Also, my guy's a level 30 and I got no reavers. --Clean Up00:08, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
I've played this a ton of times (I save before I go in) at level 30 and never once seen a Reaver. It'd actually be a challenge if some appeared. 66.142.42.250 19:05, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
Seconding this. Played on PS3 on Normal at Lvl. 30. Not a single Reaver. Swamp Ghouls, Roamers, and Glowing Ones were all I got.

Thirded. I never got any reavers either (PS3 Lvl 28). Got some elsewhere(prsedential metro for eg) but never here, played through about 10 times (grinding) and never saw one. 81.147.67.155 18:22, January 23, 2010 (UTC)

Left 3 Dead anyone?[]

I predicted there were going to be zombies somewhere... I was right! (sorta...)Jayross 09:50, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Ghoul Mask glitch[]

Rip and Jacob are (I think) placed into the players faction when you start the safari so if you're wearing the ghoul mask the ghouls will not attack you or the other two. Perhaps this should be mentioned in the article somehow? -Bbcode 23:55, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I checked the GECK and noticed this as well. It's probably an oversight, so I fixed this by removing the fellow hunters from the player faction. Makes more sense now, since only the WEARER of the mask is supposed to be friendly with the ferals. WRFan 09:06, December 22, 2009 (UTC)

It's pretty funny to see them all just stand around the middle area walking with the two other members and then suddenly all hiss and growl when you shoot one. I don't know if it had anything to do with it, but I left the Ghoul Mask on the whole time, and the two of them didn't even have to fight. They just walked around like they were waiting for the ghouls to come out while all the ghouls ignored them. Although Rip Smithy seems to think I should be thanking him for saving me when spoken to. -Ganon

upon entering the grotto, i had plik fleeing from me, has anyone else had this issue aswell? on PC version, in console disabling/enabling him corrected whatever issue was giong on.

Strategy[]

Prior to pushing the button, you can lay out mines or whatnot near the ghoul spawns. It is almost guaranteed that the two other men with you will die. You can stay in the center area, or if you are having trouble, you can go right next to the door that you came in, and camp there. Because there is only one location the ghouls come from that is an ideal location. Of course if you simply want to have some fun zombie killing, bring a Lincoln's repeater, Shotgun, Fatman, Nuka Grenades, Auto-Ax (or any of their variants), or the possibly most appropriate option...the Fertilizer Shovel, if you have it, and send those zombies back to their graves!

We don't need strategy on how to kill things, we've been doing it for a while now. Nitpicker of the Wastes 14:45, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Screw this...All I need is the dismemberer and Chinese stealth suit

I used the Chinese Stealth Suit and Fertilizer shovel and beat em all 2 death XD Cept the reavers i saved them for last and shot em with ol Vengeance.Salty Demon 19:07, September 19, 2009 (UTC)

Rolling pin. That is all. HOLD! RELEASETIME! 19:10, September 19, 2009 (UTC)
I managed to waltz my way through this quest by using the Backwater Rifle, Grim Reaper's Sprint and VATS. Since pretty much every headshot landed and managed to kill the ghouls in one shot, I never ran out of action points. This was also at level 28 on normal --64.237.198.13 03:03, November 19, 2009 (UTC)

Survivors[]

If Rib or Jacob (lol ya right) survive, are they there if you redo the safari? --DragonJTSLeave me a message

Yep, Business man died at the first one for me.....Armor man died at the 2nd one because of my DB shotgun :P

...No I didnt...68.199.195.0 21:23, June 7, 2010 (UTC)

Rip Smithy survived the initial safari and was there when I returned to do it again (after paying 500 more caps). But he was low health and died shortly after it began. FionaMcDonough June 6, 2022

Expensive[]

Was I the only one who thought 1000 caps for an axe was a little pricey? JFreeman 17:22, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Its also for all the easy xp and fun. FUN John Freeman. Fat Man Spoon 17:24, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Try using the MIRV...everything dies.YOU get XP and get t see your worst enemy be reduced to a pile of shit. Butter 17:26, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

I guess. But I was already level 30 at this point so, meh. At least the perk is pretty nice. JFreeman 17:48, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Actually, screw all that. I just pick pocketed my money back. Problem Solved. JFreeman 17:50, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I did that as well, but you can only do it the first time, after that the 500 Caps for subsequent goes is not in his inventory. :( 81.147.67.155 18:24, January 23, 2010 (UTC)

Eh, by the time I had got there with my level 28 character I already had 8000 caps so it didn't really matter to me. It's a nice little fun thing with a weapon at the end, and was one of my favorite parts of point lookout. I just wish Plik would bring in other creatures to kill but ghouls were fine to keep me entertained for several safari adventures.--Moltenfungus 19:29, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

I had 10k caps but the point is that 1k is pretty steep for shooting a few ghouls and then getting an axe. It would be better if you it timed you and you got various prizes for various times. JFreeman 19:41, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

At higher levels the money shouldn't be much of a problem. If you're above level 20 and forking over 1,000 caps is a problem for you, then you should really start concentrating on getting some cash. --Clean Up 00:12, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Incorrect information[]

"If you defend Homboldt or Smithy and keep them from dying eventually the ghouls stop coming, but you're never told that you can go inform Plik that you've survived and as a result you'll remain locked in the Safari room."

I am removing this from the notes, as I have kept them alive, and was still able to complete the safari. I am sure that there are others who agree with me, and have done the same. 160.150.65.52 14:44, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

Plik's Dead[]

Is there any way to access this safari on the PS3 version if you accidentally killed Plik? ThomasB2k 18:50, May 27, 2010 (UTC)

DogMeat?[]

After doing the safari and getting the dismemberer , i was trying to drop some things next to him because i was at 293 lbs and no buffout. when i exited my menu. all the sudden dogmeat is standing next to me and i can ask him to join me.. didnt see that anywhere else on here. is there a way to get fawkes here to? 24.11.126.178 10:06, August 17, 2010 (UTC)cptn axidnt
