So.. you get a little puppy? Cute. And wow they are releasing this info faster then usual :D //--Teh Krush 19:18, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Poor Enclave, Liberty Prime first, and two weeks later an immortal Dogmeat-Puppie. :D 20:50, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Not necessarily(sp?) immortal, but more respawning. If I remember right, it just says Dogmeat respawns as a pup in certain areas. Still looks like great perk though, a definate pick for me. Bald Eagle Brennan 21:08, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

I take it the "puppy" looks exactly like the old dogmeat ? Not an actual puppy ? --Penumbra 02:45, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Pre-BrokenSteel death?

Will Dogmeat still get reincarnated if he died prerelease, or will it only be if he dies after you get the DLC? --RockandRhyme 23:28, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Probley after release. :( I missed dogmeat after I found out how much use he had, nice of Bethesda to put him in the game like the previous fallouts but couldn't they have made him stronger? 00:16, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

You could just start another game. 00:57, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Aww, i was hoping that I could have my dog back, but I guess he'll have to rest in the Taft Tunnels with the ghoulies. --RockandRhyme 00:53, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

I've only ever had Dogmeat once, but this looks to be an interesting perk, and useful to those who love Dogmeat.-- 01:04, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

I kind of...lost Dogmeat anyway, so I don't suppose I would be needing this...

My Dogmeat died before broken steel, and after getting this perk he respawned a few minutes later at Vault 101. I think he died at around level 16-17? Im unsure, but the article is wrong where it says Dogmeat wont respawn if he died before getting this perk. Bald Eagle Brennan 23:43, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

I hope my Dogmeat revives. I got him, then I went to check out the minefields for Moira, and he blew himself up. Had him for a whole five minutes. -- 02:49, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Dogmeat in my game died before I got Broken Steel, a few minutes after getting the Perk, I his pup spawned, so yah, the article is wrong, the perk does work even if Dogmeat died before you got the DLC -- 03:44, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

I have confirmed that a puppy version of Dogmeat dose spawn once you pick the "Puppies!" perk if he did indeed die pre-Broken Steel. He spawn outside Vault 101.ViperXeon 22:19, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

He will always spawn with the puppies! perk,I was wondering for a long time about this and it is confirmed that Dogmeat will Be alive with a pre-Broken steel Death...

Yay =D

I think theres a bug.

I had Dogmeat, I kept him alive, made sure he was kept alive I had him with me when I got the perk. Yet he's not respawning. Is anyone else having a problem like this? If so I'm just going to replay the enitrety of Broken Steel over again from my last save when he was still alive. I'm not losing Dogmeat. I just leave him at home if I have to.

He has to die first before he will respawn.

Try waiting by vault 101 for 24 hours, or saving then reloading. But i completly identify with relaoding a save to bring him back if you have to (I think I lost about 10 hours total before I found out you can amek him essential on the PC) -DragonJTSLeave me a message 23:53, 5 May 2009 (UTC) NOT NECESARY IT IS SAID HE WILL JUST SPAWN EVEN IF ALREADY DEAD

I got Dogmeat b4 I got Broken Steel...I got Broken Steel, then the Puppies! perk, killed Dogmeat to add a follower, but now NO DOGMEAT PUPPY?! How come? I checked Vault 101, the spot he died, and even went back to Scrapyard. I really didnt wanna lose Dogmeat..and what a waste of a perk if so! 09:09, February 8, 2010 (UTC)

I have the same problem as the first guy. i got n a fiute with some enclave and a car blew up then a enclave deathclaw started following me. i got no notice of "dogmeat has died" and he wont respawn. - random person

Is there any difference between dogmeat as a puppy/dog. Not jsut functionality (nothing like an ammo fetching dog) but attackwise, helth wise, appearence (does he look like a smaller dogmeat?) -DragonJTSLeave me a message 23:52, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

He seems to be a hell of alot stronger than old dogmeat, a deathclaw hit him tiwce and his health was still high! I was so happy when i got the perk, it said that dogmeat's puppy is waiting for me! 03:35, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

The new puppy you get from the perk is simply named Dogmeat's Puppy. It uses the same ref ID as its parent. It also boasts a sick 1000 HP, double that of its parent (this data aquired from using the 'getav health' command in the console of the PC version). 01:01, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Before I picked this perk, my dog was waiting for me at Vault 101. After a message popped up stating Dogmeat had died. A few hours later, the puppy was waiting.

Maybe taking the perk overwrites the old Dogmeat with a newer, possibly more durable one? Wanderer Lao 12:10, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Maybe he got killed by a random encounter.--OfficerBlue 22:16, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Question about unlimited followers: So with this perk, you can effectively have unlimited followers? Every time a new Dogmeat spawns, you could just kill him and recruit a new follower, right? Because I've been wanting to go use the ammo press at the Pitt, but I'm afraid of losing Charon or Fawkes (I only use those two; I think more than that is game=breaking, and I usually leave Fawkes at home anyway because I highly value sneaking.) Also, I can't do the RL-3 thing because I let him die before I knew about it. I really need these 2 dudes for those freaking Reavers, so does this perk make unlimited followers ridiculously easy? also another bug happened to me after i finished broken steel and when i leveled up and got the puppies perk i went back to get my companions charon, jericho, and fawkes then when i went to fawkes charon and jericho they kept saying i had a follower and i didnt i had nobody as a follower can anyone plz tell me if this is a bug i really want my followers back plz —Preceding unsigned comment added by (talkcontribs). Yeah it'll work. Kris (talk) 23:03, July 18, 2010 (UTC)

How ironic

After keeping dogmeat from dying agaisnt everything from mole rats to deathclaws, he dies right after i get this perk, against my first encounter with hellfire troopers no less.

On the plus side, well done dog meat is good eatin 19:44, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

does he actualy die no matter what after you get the perk? —Preceding comment was unsigned. Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

No, I think he means he just happened to die right after getting it. -DragonJTSLeave me a message 23:59, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Killing Dogmeat

Before Broken Steel, Killing Dogmeat opened up a free companion slot. Has this been patched with Puppies!? Does killing a Puppy Dogmeat open up another companion slot? SinisterSamurai 16:11, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

I want to kinow this too. I'll test it and then I'll post.

The have NOT patched it yet!!!! so infinite Followers FTW

Not having Dogmeat does not leave a companion slot open, he never takes one up. -- 10:05, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

No, it's been confirmed by me for the xbox 360. you can get infinite followers, so long as Dogmeat's puppy spawns. I have my old gang of 7 followers back now :)

Yeah, I got SPC and Fawkes back after losing them because of the Pitt. You just gotta be sure you recruit the person before Dogmeat respawns (Meaning, you basically have to kill him right in front of the NPC you want to recruit)

Real puppy

I don't mean to plug a mod but it's relevant enough: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4380
This mod + Puppies! = canon goodness -- 10:05, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Location of Spawn

It says that the puppy spawns at Vault 101, but my dogmeat diied in Vernon Square North, and when I returned there a few days later, the pup was right where the body of the original was.

Reply: That happens to me almost every time a puppy dies!

Question: My Dogmeat died during the death from above mission. when i get the perk will the puppy be in that off map location and ill have to wait or instantly at vault 101. or can you go back to that place after the mission?

Other followers?

Right after I got this perk, Charon respawned as well. Does this work for every follower? 17:37, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

I got the same thing, it also respawned the slave girl from paradise falls. I hope this happens again if they accidentally die. 20:32, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

This happened for me once I got the Puppies! perk and then hired the Paladin from the Citadel. Charon had died outside of Vault 101 some time earlier. It said "Charon has returned to the Ninth Circle" (or words to that effect) but when I arrived at Ninth Circle, Charon isn't there.

Wierd Glitch

I brought the original Dogmeat with me during the Broken Steel questline and he died in the Presidential Metro. Later in the DLC, I got the Puppies! perk and at that point, still nothing happened. But once I got back to the Citadel, Dogmeat's Puppy was there right by the Vertibird. Wtf? --TheREALBloodscar 05:02, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

If you never got Dogmeat, what happens?

In my game, I went wandering early on, and found the scrapyard. Apparently I was intimidated by such a place and fast traveled away. If I get Puppies!, does a Dogmeat Puppy spawn? 10:54, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

I'm assuming your character is in a Pre-War Bonnet and Summer Dress armed with a Kitchen Spoon? V.A.T.S. addict 16:30, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

Dogmeat died in the scrapyard before i could recruit him, and now, much much later, I try out the Puppies! perk. And of course, no dogmeat puppies at vault 101. If you never got dogmeat, or he died before you could get him, don't bother with this perk.-- 16:56, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Dogmeat can't die before you recruit him.Bllasae 11:51, September 26, 2009 (UTC)

Puppy Image

Can anybody post an image of the Puppy? //--TehK 00:06, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Reply: Looks the same as Dogmeat to me!

it looks like dogmeat with a smaller body and a creepy large head. wikia wont allow me to upload --TastyPasta16 15:50, November 4, 2009 (UTC)

Xbox Freezes When I approach V101?

I got the puppies perk, and I get the message that Dogmeat's Puppy is waiting outside Vault 101. My issue is, whenever I approach or fast travel to Vault 101, because of the puppy, my 360 freezes. I have repeated this multiple times in different ways, still the same thing. Any advice, anyone else have this, and should I put it in the article? Wanderer Lao 23:11, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Also, the 360 is starting to freeze when I'm further and further away from the Vault (ex. first I made it up the road to the Vault, then to the road, now at the end of Springvale/start of the road)Wanderer Lao 23:16, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Charon's Reaction

What is Charon's reaction to the assassination of a Dogmeat Puppy? He freaks when you kill Dogmeat. I assume he does the same with a Puppy Spawn.

Frozen at Vault 101

This is the note from the main Topic:

  • After the puppy spawns at Vault 101, it may become stuck permanently in the ground (confirmed Xbox 360). It will act and move as if it is fine, but upon interacting with it, the puppy will behave like a corpse, allowing you to loot it, but it is carrying no items. This makes speaking with the puppy impossible. If this happens, attempt to reload your file from any previous save and retrieve the puppy again. This may not work, however, resulting in the puppy becoming useless. You could reverse pickpocket a grenade and kill it.(Unconfirmed)

I had the Dogmeat puppy spawn in front of Vault 101 and it is able to bark, speak with me, and move around a bit. However when told to "Come on, Boy!" or "Search the area for x" it will NOT follow and will not leave its general spawn area. It will not join the group upon fast travel. This is different than the reported glitch where he appears like a corpse and can be looted, etc.

V.A.T.S. addict 20:38, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

Figured out a way around this and added it to glitches section. V.A.T.S. addict 00:47, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

Should Dogmeat's Puppy have his own entry?

Should the pup get its own page? It has different statistics and it is technically a different Fallout 3 NPC. V.A.T.S. addict 00:47, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

Bug =s

for me the perk is unselectable, i have broken steel installed the perk isn't even on the list, not even grayed out, its just not there. i can't sign in atm btw, my laptop won't let me. (-- 13:55, 9 August 2009 (UTC))

i figured it out, for some reason i already have the perk, i never selected it but i have it, also dogmeat was "swapped" for a puppy, he never died and was in my megaton house prior to my posting this, but when i traveled to vault 101 there was a puppy there, odd (-- 13:58, 9 August 2009 (UTC))

My Dogmeat was died before i patched to broken steel, in level 14

Now i got the level 23, i need to choose 1 perk, if i choose puppies, i can get the Dogmeat puppies, since he died before the broken steel patch?

That's what it said in the article. Bllasae 05:10, September 4, 2009 (UTC)

This Games to Friggin Big!!!!!!

Iv'e played well over 200 hours, About a month ago my dogmeat(Puppie) dissapears, Yesterday he died, Today a puppie spawned at vault 101 like always right? NO!!!!!. The little bastard isn't there He could have died ANYWERE in the whole game and now I have no more Dogmeat. WWWWWWWHHHHHHHYYYYYYY!!!!!!!

can't talk to dogmeat's puppy

i got a message saying that dogmeats puppy wwas at vault 101 so i went there and lo indeed he was there

however when i hover over him where it says talk to dogmeats puppy it doesnt talk to him

-- 19:00, September 26, 2009 (UTC)

same thing happened to me. the puppy just sat there and when i try to talk to him it just makes that 'invalid command' clicking sound you get --TastyPasta16 15:55, November 4, 2009 (UTC)

this was happening to me, however after going in the anchorage simulation and then the mothership, killing the non responsive puppy (i had tried killing it once before in the past to no avail) waiting for 48 hours and fast travelling back to 101 finally the puppy talked to me, I am yet to have it die and see if the next one will talk as well, frankly i dont want to find out!!

No followers after leaving a DLC place with puppie perk on

i left the pitt with the puppie perk it was horrible but cool and guess what i cant get fawkes back he saying my i blah blah blah blah that you have a follower that i dont like what i should do? how can i fix this freaking glitch its named "Puppy Glitcho" it adds puppy as a 2nd follower like WTF? it wont let me get another follower

Yeah, the same glitch happened to me. After I took the perk, every time I tried to get a different follower, it said I could only have one follower at a time. Normal enough, so I "fired" the pup, but even when I'm completely alone, it still says that no one else can join me. Has this happened to anyone else? Because it sucks. And I'd like advice if there IS a fix. 00:32, October 30, 2009 (UTC)Hagglesnaf

The same happens to me and it's quite frustrating. I'll try the kill method and report back. 22:36, January 25, 2010 (UTC)Eli

Hi, I'm neither of the above people, however i had this bug happen to me.

Even more annoying, is the fact that i used charon as kind of a bank..

As in i gave him all of my rare weapons (most of them in the game pre broken steel and about 6 others)

So in a frantic pissed off rage, i tried about ten different things to get my stuff back from charon.

Cutting the story short, if you take the puppy TO the person you want to recruit, and kill the puppy and immediately recruit the person, they will accept and be your companion again.

Using the above method, I know it is possible to get two followers at the same time, maybe more, but I haven't been bothered to check.

Hope I've helped :)

fixing the dogmeat puppies perk no-follower glitch

- How i did this was having dogmeats puppy follow me and i went to the follower i want i then killed the puppy (=-( not proud) and asked the follower and then they were able to follow me yayayayayaya! but it must be done before the puppy respawns (unconfirmed)

I can't even damage the mutt, let alone kill him. I shot him five times with a fully-repaired Lincoln's Repeater and it never caused a dent in his health bar.

You can't kill him? I used a few shots from the "A3-21's Plasma Rifle" But...I do a have an energy weapons skill of like...94.

Re: Dogmeat/Puppy levels with your character

(With Broken Steel)
If you get a puppy at level 30 will it be just as powerful if you got it as soon as possible?

Dogmeat,or Dogmeat's Pups/puppies will level up like you do. So do all the other followers.

Original Dogmeat

So, I started a new game after getting Broken Steel, and Dogmeat seemed a lot more durable. I know he has never died and I don't even have this perk, but I was wondering if Dogmeat gets the same treatment to his HP and such as his puppy gets if you acquire Dogmeat/start the game after Broken Steel is installed?

Or, does the Dogmeat puppy have even MORE HP than the original Dogmeat no matter what? I already can't kill the original Dogmeat no matter how hard I might try, so one with twice the HP would be insane. TearsOfBlood 05:10, April 8, 2010 (UTC)

I killed dog meats puppy while doing the infinte followers explot ans he stoped respawning after killing him the 3rd time after i got cross82.18.192.31 20:14, July 13, 2010 (UTC)some guy

Dogmeat Pre-Perk

Will a puppy spawn if Dogmeat dies before I get the perk? -Xenemeous

Yes. Kris mailbox 02:08, August 18, 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. -Xenemeous

i dont get it, dogmeat is essential in my game, he cant die, so whats the point of this perk

The "Puppies!" Perk.

Okay,so what does this perk do exactly? I have the original Dogmeat with me,I basically protect him rather it being the other way around.I don't know what the Pup/puppies looks like, and I don't his/her's/or their names. But mainly, what does the perk do? Something special with mutated or un-mutated dogs? Please answer. Also,is it true when you get the perk Fawkes leaves you? Because I need him,he's my back-up if my weapons are broken. Or if my condition on my armor is low, making me have a low DR level.
