Random encounters in the list of fixed locations[]

We really should try to avoid adding random encounters to the list of fixed scavenger locations. Any scavenger that is accompanied by a broken Mr. Handy, mentions Big Town or in any other way fits in as a random encounter is obviously not fixed. I removed the Anchorage War Memorial entry, since the only scavenger you can encounter there is a random encounter. If it referred to a fixed scavenger in the vicinity of the memorial, the location should be updated to reflect the actual location by whoever found him or her.--Mehbah 19:18, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Define random encounter. I reinstated the Anchorage War Memorial on because I have run across it 5 times in game play. It isn't a random encounter. It's almost the exact same as the Reclining Groves Resort Homes scavenger appearance. In my opinon it (the scavenger event) is not a random encounter.Kingclyde 21:02, 11 March 2009 (UTC)kingclyde

Random encounter as in a random encounter. I linked to a list of them in the first post. Anchorage War Memorial is the location of a possible random encounter. The reason you came across one in the same place is that, once activated, random encounters don't change. So if you find a scavenger on top of the memorial "island", he will stay there unless you reload an earlier save or start a new game. I've had various random encounters there myself, such as the one with a Deathclaw attacking wastelanders and the one with Ben Canning.--Mehbah 21:52, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Clarification on Quantum[]

The Quantum scavenger is said to appear more than once, but no further details are given. Does he appear only in the same spot? Any spot? Only spots that haven't been activated yet? PositronicSpleen 00:57, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

During my last game, I came across him at least twice. I was wondering through most of the wasteland and I'm pretty sure I met him each time somewhere new. there does not seem to be a fixed location..sorry!!--Zazamoth 00:35, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

Keeping alive?[]

Since you can't invest in them and improve their inventory, is there any point in keeping them alive at all? or should you just kill and loot them if you dont mind the karma loss.

Nah, just get them to repair the stuff you don't have parts for and kill them. >:] Warped Mind 08:03, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Personally, I just have Dogmeat by my sides and approach the Scavenger, then his dog attacks, Dogmeat counters, The Scavenger attacks Dogmeat and Dogmeat kills him aswell. Then you can loot him without bad karma. User:Some guy 12:42, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

you could alwase mez them, there dog and carvan run off after them so it may cause some...interesting resultsKatikar 21:45, January 29, 2010 (UTC)

Is This Necessary[]

Occasionally you will come across a scavenger who will talk about some strange light (Confirmed on PS3). May sometimes become hostile after speaking to him (Needs confirmation). This is likely a random encounter meeting a delusional scavenger who speaks of a light which is a reference to the Oasis side quest. He is carrying a "map marker" for Oasis. If the player has already found Oasis, the reference may go unnoticed.

Is this really necessary as it's a random encounter, Oasis Merchant according to the Prima Guide. Shouldn't this and the other one like it (the malfunctioning Mr. Handy) go on the random encounter page?--KnightNapier 17:25, December 19, 2009 (UTC)

I agree with KnightNapier, It should be on Random Encounters.--Vault4 17:31, December 19, 2009 (UTC)

They already are on Fallout 3 random encounters. In general, you have a decent point - but this article is going to get a major revamp soon anyway, so I wouldn't be too bothered about it right now. -- Porter21 (talk) 17:34, December 19, 2009 (UTC)

Easily Offended[]

On my 'Good Karma' character I desperately needed some improvements to my Lyon's Pride Armour, so I went to the caravans near Tenpennies (Directly after letting my pal Roy in!) and strategically blew up a car to dispose of the caravan. It killed the Brahmin and one of 2 guards, but the scavenger and another BoS soldier survived, here's where it gets kooky. The Scav opened fire.

I am sure that I didn't shoot at him, as sure as I can be! Is he just offended by shooting? Luckily for me, I didn't lose Karma because the remaining guard (toting a minigun) and Fawkes didn't appreciate his violence. The guard wandered about for a bit...until I got him near another car...Pog 16:39, May 8, 2010 (UTC)

Unfortunatly the game recognizes explosions from vehicles (intention or not = P ) as a form of attack. Thus, when the car exploded and damaged the people they went into an agressive posture. You can however use this to an advantage against an already half-dead enemy (by your hands) to finish them off and get exp for less bullets. Chaos ian7 22:41, September 28, 2010 (UTC)

Random Death?[]

(PS3) When I first started the game, I came across the Scavenger Shack near Arefu with a scavenger taking post there. Well a couple days later (not in game), I happened to ran into it, but finding the same person dead. I knew it was the same person, because she had a Missile Lancher on her back. Has anyone else ever experienced this? If not, at other places? 76.172.249.120 11:51, June 9, 2010 (UTC)

Most of the time its not the same person because of a kind of 'template randomiser' which selects from a batch of 20 or so present characters (and their clothes) and distributes them all over the specified locations, otherwise you would be killing the same 20 raiders over and over. As for the death, i'd say some of the local mirelurks. = / Chaos ian7 22:45, September 28, 2010 (UTC)

Do any of them respawn? Silverfox6000 03:43, October 1, 2010 (UTC)

They all should, over the course of a 3 or so days, but I have run into a few places in which it randomly doesn't happen (pobably because of a glitch). Chaos ian7 03:56, October 2, 2010 (UTC)

Fallout 4 Scavengers[]

I think the Fallout 4 Scavenger faction needs to be added here. HalloweenWeed (talk) 14:40, January 17, 2016 (UTC)

The generic NPCs called "Scavenger" in FO4? Yes. The technical faction might need some general thinking about. There are 1392 factions in Fallout 4 (7 with Scavenger in the name), most of them rather technical. --Alfwyn (talk) 14:54, January 17, 2016 (UTC)

Quite a few fallout 4 articles link to this page. -Dejavu
