where can u get the supressor from?
I know the article lists two merchants who carry it, but what do you do when neither merchant currently has the item in their inventory? Here is what I did to get it. Park yourself in front of Vendortron and start using the in-game wait system. Wait one day at a time, and check his Misc section after each time. His inventory appears to change every three to four days. Eventually, the Sniper Rifle Silencer will show up. I am not sure if there is a minimum level requirement, but I was level eleven at the time I did this. Morl 00:35, May 27, 2011 (UTC)
This item should be called a Sniper Rifle Silencer, since a Suppressor just reduces muzzle flash. Just a Random FYI. Do your research, Bethesda/Obsidian! --HappyToast 23:25, October 26, 2010 (UTC)
No, all 'silencers' are suppressors. Calling them silencers only perpetuates the movie and game image that they completely silence a shot. Suppressors do reduce muzzle flash, this is part of what they are for. But silencers and suppressors are not different things, they are all suppressors. Feel free to research.
- It's still technically a silencer, as when Harim Maxim patented the original design, it was patented as a 'silencer'. Therefore, while it technically can't make the weapon completely silenced (though it can remove all sound but the movement of the bolt/slide), it can still be called a silencer, since that's actually the official name. -Acora
That's weird, when I fire a sniper rifle without the "suppressor" attached, there's a flash and the ground beneath me lights up. When I fire a sniper rifle with the "suppressor" attached, there's a flash and the ground beneath me lights up. Seems like this attachment only reduces noise. Not that you're dumb as fuck or anything, but feel free to play the game, and feel free to sign your comments. :p --HappyToast 18:44, November 5, 2010 (UTC)
- Actually HappyToast, while some suppressors do reduce muzzle flash not all do. It actually just means that it suppresses either sound or light. Usually though if it only suppresses sound it would normally be called a Sound Suppressor or a Silencer this isn't always the case. --Valadez 00:58, December 16, 2010 (UTC)
This mod is the main thing that makes the standard sniper rifle superior to the unique variant for a stealthier player. you can pick off enemies from far away and they will very seldom even move from their position with a silencer attached, where with the unique gobi variant they tend to come running after the first shot.
against enemies that can survive more than 1 sneak attack shot, this can be very powerful. while with the gobi i can usually take down a deathclaw before it reaches my position, if i use a silenced sniper it will tend to just stand there, making it much easier to land head shots, as well as removing the urgency of the situation.
Coming from the Sniper rifle (Fallout: New Vegas) article, the mod section listed this one as "Noise and Damage Redution", I see no damage reduction listed here, is it that good of a mod? 18.104.22.168 07:31, November 10, 2010 (UTC)
- Mods have only one effect, see http://imgur.com/XRiSn.png Corrected both pages.--Jonathan Strange 13:37, November 10, 2010 (UTC)
Can someone confirm, that it is indeed buyable in Goodsprings? (without a mod like WMX that adds it) By looking in the GECK I would say this is false because only the Arms Merchant and Vendortron use these leveled lists and its not used anywhere besides that.IPodged 01:21, January 31, 2011 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure than the goodsprings location is bogus...loaded my saves a few times next to vendor and never appeared (PC latest patch). WateredDown 00:44, February 5, 2011 (UTC)
- I've never found the Sniper Rifle silencer in Goodsprings, though I occasionally find the Varmint Rifle Silencer there. --Webgiant 17:12, February 7, 2011 (UTC)
