Deliverance referances

Is anybody else reminded by some of the quotes by the swampfolk of the scene in Deliverance when the hillbillies rape Bobby?

ex: "I'm gonna take mah time with you!" "Scream, varment! Ha ha ha ha ha! Scream. Scream!!" "Scream! SCREAM!!" "Oh boy! Let's have some fun!"

I think thats just disturbing O_O and I think this also references to The Hills Have Eyes...

I took out the "trivia" paragraph beginning with: Some of the Hillfolk bear a striking resemblance to humans infected with the Corprus disease from the game The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, another game developed by Bethesda Softworks. This just seems like yet another case of someone reaching to find references that aren't there --Funkmistress 13:10, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Speaking of inane references to other video games... is anyone else thinking Redneck Rampage after viewing the screenshots?? It would be beyond awesome if they got some of the same voice talent for this project. I can hear it now... "git off mah land!" Oh, memories of good times... (how can you not have fond memories of a game that let you ram a lit stick of TNT up a chicken's butt and shoot it out of a crossbow??) 06:56, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

  • The Swampfolk seems to resemble the people of innsmouth, as in one of Bethsda´s earlier games "Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth". the are recogniced as sick inbreds by the protagonist. the people of innsmouth address the protagonist as "the Outsider" as does the Swampfolk
  • I was just running around and saw a scrapper, brawler, bruiser, and tracker in a circle around a camp fire, all of them dancing. It's quite comedic, they actually aren't that bad of dancers.

Other Media

These guys remind me of the people from the "The hills have Eyes" movie. Any possible relation, reference? I know they're strongly based on the original Trog idea but still.. Hessen 22:59, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

Yes, the devs actually mentioned it in one of the interviews. Ausir 23:02, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

About the Origins of the Swampfolk: If you read the Medical Terminal in the Administration tent in the Disaster Relief Center where Marcella is hanging out, you find out about the symptoms of the "New Plague" that was afflicting people in the US prior to the Great War, which include: - Profuse Sweating (Which may lead to the smell that Haley complains about) - Swelling or Contusions (Like the Ones that the Swampfolk have) - Unexplained External Hemorraging (Which would explain all the blood on the outside of some Swampfolk) Essentially, it could be that Swampfolk may all have some form of the "New Plague" in addition to problems with Radiation and/or Inbreeding.

I find the New Plaque reference a bit debatable. The last symptom is: "new ideals, like socialism". Seems more like a ploy to get people to register with the Feds before the War. BTW, are we going to split these guys (each swampfolk) into different pages? (10:03am June25) (RT7) i think these guys are fun to fight thay reminde me that im a cajun and that i could be related to these guys allso funny thing i saw a scraper danceing infront of a camp fire i blew his leg opff from long range with my sniper rifle --Xxuberdood 19:23, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

The game itself confirms (through the loading screen) that the Swampfolk are the result of generations of radiation and poor breeding (which is, c'mon, incest). --Doop. 20:57, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Bethesda: Politically correct be damned! --DragonJTSLeave me a message 21:01, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

While the loading screen does say that the Swampfolk are the result of generations of radiation and poor breeding, that doesn't necessarily preclude the possibility that the Swampfolk may also be passing down a strain of the New Plague down to their children as well. It could be that a combination of the New Plague, Inbreeding, AND Radiation are the cause of the Swamp Folks' deformities. Many loading screens have some, but not all the information related to a subject. Also, it's true that the last purported symptom of the report on the new plague did say the quite hysterical "New ideas, like Socialism.", but that doesn't mean that the other symptoms are invalid (they may in fact be quite valid). It may mean that the people in charge of spreading awareness about the New Plague (which might actually exist) may be using it as a scare tactic to get gullible people to report those with liberal ideas as being possibly infected with the new plague. The best lies have seeds of truth to them, after all. It could even be that the new plague makes people mentally degenerate and start behaving strangely, and that the government just wants to classify having new, liberal ideas such as socialism as strange behavior indicative of that mental degeneration.

Geez, man. Not to knock your ideas, but I like to just go the way of Occams Razor and assume the simplest explanation (that the game gave us, no less) is the best one.--Doop. 22:26, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Just a thought: It IS said that the Swampfolk are caused by radiation and poor breeding, but maybe Point Lookout, being an isolated community, was used as a testbed for the New Plague cure version of the FEV. I mean, the symptoms of the "cure" WERE "Deformities... Insanity". I see this as making sense, myself.Jaffa-232 02:23, March 28, 2010 (UTC)

A brawler

I just found one of these guys with 40 frag grenades!!! New Record?GodPlageon 07:50, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

It's happened to me too, i think it has something to do with the ones that spawn beside grenade boxes (dunno why it uses that particular amount, but I have the scrounger perk, so that may have something to do with it) WouldYouKindly 22:44, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
Ah I also have scrounger.GodPlageon 04:05, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Got 43 frag grenades from a Creeper at Beachview Campsite...I dont have scrounger, since its basically a useless perk....

Ha! 52 frags!:D Icko 23:16, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

Trapper vs Tracker

Could somebody with the English version please confirm what they are actually called ingame (Tracker or Trapper)? The whole changing back and forth is getting a bit annoying. -- Porter21 (talk) 19:30, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Right, the creature is called a 'Tracker'. The Tracker's Shack is actually called 'TraPPer's Shack'. Fat Man Spoon 19:32, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Don't you just laugh when you see a creeper shooting at you with a BB gun--UrbN 22:24, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Good, I'm glad someone else found one. At least the BB Guns aren't enchanted to do 35 more points of damage. Nitpicker of the Wastes 22:27, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Swampfolk Info

Could someone post it's stats? It's SPECIAL and health, attack damage, special attack damage etc for each of the swampfolk? Gabriel Cortez 02:11, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Excellent copy-paste. GECKs are working on it. Just doing my job. 02:13, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

ya if they could do that with the bb gun imagine them with the experimental mirv two ghouls look at the dc over a cliff were did the wasteland go

Too Hard?

Does anyone think that these guys are a little tough? I mean I stumbled on a spwan point and there were a damn lot of em'. First of all, they all get a +35 damage regardless, the bruiser hit like they're hopped up on the Q, creepers are filling me full of shotgun shells, and I have to use a stimpack like every 10 seconds! (Although I am playing on Very Hard and I'm using melee =P) --User:Zyan 02:46, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

The fuck is "Q"? Anyway, when these guys soak up more damage, when they don't wear shirts, compared to Power-Armored Enclave troops, the game is screwed. Just doing my job. 02:48, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
"Q" is a dane cook reference, its talking about snorting ness-quick=quick=Q

Not only do they do 35 extra damage but the tracker/bruisers soak up 44s like a sponge. --DragonJTSLeave me a message 17:04, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

I went for a nice long nap on a bed, and one of them gave me a present, dogmeat's head, shortly after it was reported that the swampfolk were exctinct. Butter 17:09, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Someone should tell the Brotherhood of Steel to stop searching for technology, and to just begin inbreeding, since apparently that is the secret to becoming powerful. I have an easier time with an Enclave Soldier in Hellfire Armor than beating one of these guys. 14:03, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

so i can kil most enclave soldiers with 2-3 plasma rifle shots but these things come along and they just soak up your ammo,+35 damage with a double barrel shotgun at point blank aint very fun.there worse than overlords.

How dare you question Bethesdas brilliant game design?! Everyone in their right mind knows that piling millions of hit points into creatures' stats makes everything better and that dudes who go "LUL, YOU FUNNEH!!" after having taken multiple high-powered rifle rounds to their eyes increases immersion; such design is, in fact, much superior to for example just adding more creatures of a lesser variant. 12:10, December 20, 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, that would be helpful. It's funny how unbalanced everyone is in Point Lookout. Swampfolk breeding? How is it possible?

Okay what the fuck is up with this? I was expecting to kill some female swampfolks... But the strangest thing is, how do they breed??? I mean its possible they screw Marguerite the Moonshine whore.... This really reminds me of "The Hill Have Eyes II"....Hahahaha, raping women to breed.... Anyone give me a good idea of how come we only fuckin see male swampfolks? Maybe their asexual and the trackers get pregnant XD

It's Kenny's Mom their screwing. THAT is why he ran away. Fat Man Spoon 10:25, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Okay....but how come we never see her in the game? I think its safe to say that swampfolks live even outside of Point Lookout... Maybe lived somewhere near Point Lookout cuz we dont even get to see the basement he got to lived in...

Simple video game logic; there is more in the game's world than we see. This applies to everything from RPGs to action games. We're not going to see every detail, and stuff like this is one of them.--Doop. 23:07, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

its like fantasy dwarves, with the exception of dungeons and dragons, you never see female dwarves

Of course you do -- you just don't know how to tell female dwarfs from male dwarfs.

Check under their beds - I bet you'll find a woman with no arms or legs, like in that hillbilly Episode of X-Files.-- 21:20, October 16, 2009 (UTC)

oh yeah that was a good one... come to think of it those hillbillys are pretty similar to the point lookout ones.... ive got it! They ran off to point lookout at the end of that episode... makes perfect sense! Ohno21212 04:18, February 13, 2010 (UTC)

Anyone got tips for taking these guys down?? I go thru like 10 stimpacks every time I fight one. I use small Arms by the way, and dble barrel shotty.

Well there is always the lincolns repeater. You can always switch to the trusty energy weapons. Also what level are you? Also please sign with the 4 tildes (Shift and key to the left of the 1.) Onipix 11:32, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Something is wrong,I just got point lookout yesterday,3 creepers and a scrapper shooting at me,I get The Mauler out to kill the ones with axes to kill the creepers, and after that,a scrapper kills me with the shotgun,i have 59(basically 60)stimpacks but I am afraid to use them caus I have heard point lookout is a pretty long add-on,and those swaampfolk are hella tough!I'm on my 3rd run on beating it I beat it 2 times, and im on lvl 14 and these guys, are worse than any other enemy I have ever faced ever since my 1st time beating it!any clues on how to beat them?without using a stimpack?

never mind!I figured out if you have the pitt find the metal blaster what i have it will kill them in like 10 shots or just use a laser rifle!

Sneaky Creeper!

Well, I was just trundling along, havin fun with my pal Eugene =D. Then suddenly, I stop to see a bunch of hilbillies dancing around a fire, pull out the victory rifle, take aim for the Bruiser, who's screaming at a scrapper in their inbred language, then:

BAM! I'm dead, and I see a scrawny little Creeper with a Double Barreled shotgun standing over me. Pretty retarded, since I was facing that direction the whole time, have 10 perception(Almost Perfect Perk FTW!) and was wearing winterized T51-B, wondering if this is a glitch, or if they can do sneak attack criticals?

Or is me gettin a face full of shotgun just bad for my health? 0_o --Experiment 33 11:42, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Is there any quotes from the swampfolk?

... Isn't "Hur hur hur, we'll git you!" enough? Nitty 19:43, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

"He/She hurt my hand!" and I have heard another one but i forgot but ill post it when i hear it again.

"Their physical deformities are most likely the result of inbreeding and radiation." Does anyone have proof? The residents of Arlen are inbreeds, but are not physically deformed. As for the radiation everyone has absorbed large amounts of radiation, and they have not changed like the swampfolk have. Maybe Bethesda was trying to get laughs? I would like to know if there is proof, or an explanation. Jericho's own cigarette 02:05, September 3, 2009 (UTC)

I blame Aliens. Spoon 11:09, September 3, 2009 (UTC)
As has been suggested further up, the new plague symptoms are precisely what we see in the swamp folks -- it might even be that they are socialists (since no player has ever had a conversation with any of them there is no way of telling). Someone talked about the simplest explanation being the most likely, which would mean that the new plague being the only factor is the most likely in causing the deformities.
Uh, no, the New Plague is basically hardcore flu. The "symptoms" mentioned in Point Lookout are nothing more than wartime manipulation, to make the populace more ruly.11px-Naglowaa_se.gif Tagaziel (call!) 23:46, November 19, 2009 (UTC)
Surely you take it as proof enough that it appears on a slide on the loading screen. From Bethesda = CANON. Accept it. 12:44, October 19, 2009 (UTC)
Most likely = speculate on it. Most likely does not mean that it is true. There is evidence in the game to suggest that radiation is not a significant contributor to the deformities

New Pages

Why don't these swampfolk each have their own page. There can still be short rundowns for each, like the ghoul page. Anyone else agree? -- 00:02, September 5, 2009 (UTC)

Why are they so powerful?

This is unbelieveable. I spawned two Bruisers next to a Behemoth and the hicks won. How is it that deformed hicks can beat a Behemoth? Although, this Behemoth was unarmed and it is difficult for unarmed Behemoths to punch tiny little swampfolks. Nevertheless, I also spawned an Overlord next to them and they STILL won. WTF? This game defies the laws of physics. -- 22:05, September 22, 2009 (UTC)

"Hello video game, how are you today?" Personally I find it refreshing that I have to think for a few seconds instead of bouncing around the wasteland wasting anything that blinks. Still, if you have the Stealth Suit, you can just walk around and keep shooting them with a quiet weapon (i.e. perforator) and the status will never change from "CAUTION". That means they will never hit you. This works for all enemies in Point Lookout. The status will only change if you use a loud weapon, stand up, or walk into them. It won't change if they walk into you however. 12:46, October 19, 2009 (UTC)

You miss the point. The swamp folk are way to powerful. They are completely unarmored. There is no way a powerarmored enclave soldier should give me less trouble than an unarmored, inbred human. 04:21, January 2, 2010 (UTC)

Then go play through Fallout 1. Watch as Dogmeat, Ian, Tycho, and Katja are turned into a fine bloody paste by a single burst from a supermutant's chaingun. Real physics bullets are real. Nitty Tok. 04:22, January 2, 2010 (UTC)
They are creatures. Not inbred humans. They do not drop a finger or an ear, killing them increases the number of creatures killed in Pip-boy stats, even in censored versions; their body parts can be blown off and mutilated. And the GECK lists them as creatures, and this article is under enemy creatures. Therefore comparison between Swampfolk and Enclave is nonsense. Also, Swampfolk will attack Haley if the player forces them in the same area. Above all. Tribals also cause extra damage against PC and they are human. PS3demon 21:11, February 21, 2010 (UTC)
They are treated as creatures by the game's engine, but setting-wise, they are not any less human than the ghouls, who are treated as characters. Ausir(talk) 21:37, February 21, 2010 (UTC)

I've constantly heard that the Swampfolk gain an instant +35 damage that can't even be blocked by armor. What's up with that? I'm on my third playthrough of Fallout 3 using GOTY to get the DLC's easily but why make them that powerful? Most weapons are powerful enough as is, and when an enemy has more health than a Deathclaw (as is the case for Tracker and Bruiser) why do they need to do more damage? Also what's so special about them? Why can't their "magic damage" be repelled by armor. Is Bethesda really trying to create an unstoppable enemy? Weren't Albinos, Reavers and Overlords enough?--KnightNapier 21:16, October 24, 2009 (UTC)

They were to counter all the whiners saying: "OMG this gmae iz too EASY! Bethesda sux LOL"

That was an actual comment. Spoon Leave me a freakin' message 21:40, October 24, 2009 (UTC)

Still +35 non blockable damage is a little harsh. I do believe that a level 20 (never played through as a 30 yet) is really powerful and the game does need some more powerful enemies so maybe it's balanced, I haven't gotten there yet, I only got through Anchorage with the glitch. I guess I can't knock it unless I actually try it but I'm not looking forward to it. Got any tips?--KnightNapier 23:08, October 24, 2009 (UTC)

Well actually playing through Point Lookout gave me respect for Swampfolk, but not fear. I was level 26 (I did it late game) with my Winterized T-51b and my DBS and Lever Action and the Swampfolk fell rather handidly. I actually had a thougher time with the Tribals at the Calvert Mansion than these guys, possibly because I had mobility advantage. Still they're admirable opponents thanks to the fact that a few shots (even with over 60% DR) can cause a Stimpack shortage. I missed Fawkes. Too bad I'm on PS3 otherwise It would be fun to have one mutant ripping another a new one...--KnightNapier 01:20, December 3, 2009 (UTC)

Bruisers unequip their axes

I noticed that bruisers always unequip their axes before engaging in combat. I think that's because they deal more damage with their bare fists, so their fists is considered a better "weapon" by the game. This actually gives you a little more time to regenerate AP, because they won't attack right away. They shouldn't be even equipped with axes, since they never use them. WRFan 08:49, December 22, 2009 (UTC)

Then how would you get more repairs for your axes? 20:20, March 27, 2010 (UTC)

grenade spawning

I think I killed something other than a scrapper (it was either a brawler or tracker) with a non-energy weapon (Perforator and Sniper Rifle) and it still spawned the grenades. I'll have to try it again, though, before I add the 'PS3' tag to the article. I'm positive I didn't use an energy weapon though, because I rarely use them. But for now, has anyone else noticed that? I think the bug may apply to all swampfolk. Metalspork (word vomit) 01:18, June 14, 2010 (UTC)

Does anyone else think that the swamp folk are similar to the trog from Van Buren?

Well, the Trog in the Pitt don't seem able to withstand six missiles, a clip full of shotgun shells to the face, and a mini nuke before dying.
