I took out the "trivia" paragraph beginning with: Some of the Hillfolk bear a striking resemblance to humans infected with the Corprus disease from the game The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, another game developed by Bethesda Softworks. About the Origins of the Swampfolk: If you read the Medical Terminal in the Administration tent in the Disaster Relief Center where Marcella is hanging out, you find out about the symptoms of the "New Plague" that was afflicting people in the US prior to the Great War, which include:

- Profuse Sweating (Which may lead to the smell that Haley complains about)

- Swelling or Contusions (Like the Ones that the Swampfolk have)

- Unexplained External Hemorraging (Which would explain all the blood on the outside of some Swampfolk)

Essentially, it could be that Swampfolk may all have some form of the "New Plague" in addition to problems with Radiation and/or Inbreeding.

Navbox Lonesome Road
I find the New Plaque reference a bit debatable. The last symptom is: "new ideals, like socialism". Seems more like a ploy to get people to register with the Feds before the War. BTW, are we going to split these guys (each swampfolk) into different pages? (10:03am June25) (RT7)

The game itself confirms (through the loading screen) that the Swampfolk are the result of generations of radiation and poor breeding (which is, c'mon, incest). --Doop. 20:57, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

While the loading screen does say that the Swampfolk are the result of generations of radiation and poor breeding, that doesn't necessarily preclude the possibility that the Swampfolk may also be passing down a strain of the New Plague down to their children as well. It could be that a combination of the New Plague, Inbreeding, AND Radiation are the cause of the Swamp Folks' deformities. Many loading screens have some, but not all the information related to a subject. Also, it's true that the last purported symptom of the report on the new plague did say the quite hysterical "New ideas, like Socialism.", but that doesn't mean that the other symptoms are invalid (they may in fact be quite valid). It may mean that the people in charge of spreading awareness about the New Plague (which might actually exist) may be using it as a scare tactic to get gullible people to report those with liberal ideas as being possibly infected with the new plague. The best lies have seeds of truth to them, after all. It could even be that the new plague makes people mentally degenerate and start behaving strangely, and that the government just wants to classify having new, liberal ideas such as socialism as strange behavior indicative of that mental degeneration.

Geez, man. Not to knock your ideas, but I like to just go the way of Occams Razor and assume the simplest explanation (that the game gave us, no less) is the best one.--Doop. 22:26, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Why are they so powerful?
This is unbelieveable. I spawned two Bruisers next to a Behemoth and the hicks won. How is it that deformed hicks can beat a Behemoth? Although, this Behemoth was unarmed and it is difficult for unarmed Behemoths to punch tiny little swampfolks. Nevertheless, I also spawned an Overlord next to them and they STILL won. WTF? :"Hello video game, how are you today?" Personally I find it refreshing that I have to think for a few seconds instead of bouncing around the wasteland wasting anything that blinks. Still, if you have the Stealth Suit, you can just walk around and keep shooting them with a quiet weapon (i.e. perforator) and the status will never change from "CAUTION". That means they will never hit you. This works for all enemies in Point Lookout. The status will only change if you use a loud weapon, stand up, or walk into them. It won't change if they walk into you however.121.44.180.95 12:46, October 19, 2009 (UTC)

I've constantly heard that the Swampfolk gain an instant +35 damage that can't even be blocked by armor. What's up with that? I'm on my third playthrough of Fallout 3 using GOTY to get the DLC's easily but why make them that powerful? Most weapons are powerful enough as is, and when an enemy has more health than a Deathclaw (as is the case for Tracker and Bruiser) why do they need to do more damage? Also what's so special about them? Why can't their "magic damage" be repelled by armor. Is Bethesda really trying to create an unstoppable enemy? Weren't Albinos, Reavers and Overlords enough?--KnightNapier 21:16, October 24, 2009 (UTC)

Still +35 non blockable damage is a little harsh. I do believe that a level 20 (never played through as a 30 yet) is really powerful and the game does need some more powerful enemies so maybe it's balanced, I haven't gotten there yet, I only got through Anchorage with the glitch. I guess I can't knock it unless I actually try it but I'm not looking forward to it. Got any tips?--KnightNapier 23:08, October 24, 2009 (UTC)
