Preston stuck[]

I had Preston stuck claiming "we need to focus on fixing the radio" (or something along those lines) and in order to fix it, I had to select him in console and type resurrect. He then refreshed, got up, and carried on the quest.

Leads to "Returning the Favor"[]

This is probably inaccurate - I obtained that quest simply by visiting the farm and talking to the quest giver, before the Castle was ever mentioned. I don't believe this quest is a prerequisite. 14.201.141.21 07:43, December 4, 2015 (UTC)

Minutemen being hostile after defeating Queen[]

I had the same situation that the minutemen became hostile after defeating the Queen. But i figured out this was caused by me doing them damage with a mine and/or grenade. So yes i can verify this but it only happens when the player damages them by friendly fire. But being new to this i don't know if i can edit this.

Yes you can edit pages unless the page has been locked due to excessive unwarranted edits or vandalism. You'll know right away if thats the case. Its highly recommended you read the guidelines on page styles, policies, etc. (sorry I don't have a link but its widely published throughout the Wiki). Also, if your edits are reverted, don't get mad! The pages are monitored by very dedicated volunteers who have their own rules they must follow. If you disagree with a "revert" of your edit, bring the discussion to the talk page. I've found everyone here to be quite helpful explaining why my edits may not have been left or in some cases a compromise found (and rarely I'm right so its added back in - humor intended).
Its also a good idea to sign your talk page entries with 4 tildes (Shift + the key just to the left of number 1) as I have done here so the Date & Time is listed. (Philbert) 72.128.208.82 01:37, December 21, 2015 (UTC)

Detailed Walkthrough section a little overzealous in its warnings?[]

The repeated warnings in the Detailed Walkthrough section seem a little, um, much. I get that this quest tends to be done at low levels and that yes, Mirelurk Queens are tough, but the severity of the warnings seem specific to the author's personal experience with the quest. Do we really need allcaps, italics, and multiple instances of "...it is strongly advised..." I don't mean to be rude, but the tone of the walkthrough seems overblown to me.

The real difficulty comes in if players push to complete this quest early in the game. This quest wasn't a priority for me, so I got around to it at level 40+ and the Queen was a trivial challenge even in Survival mode -- without power armor, heavy weapons, mining the southwest gap, use of chems, cheats, or god mods. Like anything else, difficulty decreases with preparedness, and players who want to do the quest in an early phase of the game will need extra help. For a well-developed character, no it's not particularly challenging.

Defend Tenpines Bluff, and this[]

I obtained this quest while doing one of the Quartermastery sub-quests. Actually a quest named Defend Tenpines Bluff started and it prompted to talk to Preston Garvey. When I did that, this quest started. I had established only three settlements. When I started the discussion with Preston, the Sole Survivor told Preston he was sorry he couldn't defend Tenpines Bluff against Raiders. So probably the quest can be obtained after completing/failing Defend Settlement X quests..

No bugs even clearing the Castle BEFORE quest[]

I cleared the Castle BEFORE getting the quest from Preston, and i had the option to tell him "ALREADY DONE" and he was impressed and asked to meet him at the Castle, when i fast traveled the castle he waited there and my only task was to build couple generators and switch on the Minutemen Radio. After this, quest complete. Joose Paskahousu (talk) 15:14, December 28, 2015 (UTC)

Possible Bug[]

I don't know if anyone else has this but when I did the quest, 2 of the 3 minutemen that were assisting in the quest died (I accidentally killed them when I hit the queen with some mini nukes). But their bodies are still lying there and haven't disappeared and its been a long time since i did the quest. Nick3258 (talk) 04:05, December 29, 2015 (UTC)

Yeah, that happened for me too. I've got a couple of bodies lying around that have been there since I did the quest 100+ hours ago. Probably just an oversight in the code not expecting them to die during the quest. I expect either an official patch, or at the least the Unofficial patch (once the geck is released), to fix it. --Xernoc (talk) 04:30, December 29, 2015 (UTC)

No More than One Generator[]

I finished the quest, thought I had destroyed all egg clusters, and Preston told me to check the radio transmitter. Decided to create two medium generators, but the workshop does not allow me to build a second one (as if I didn't have the ingredients), even though I have more than enough resources for two. Discovered that the same issue is present for small generators. If you are trying to build a generator type that already exists, then it is not possible to highlight any objects despite the generator not showing up. Once there are not enough resources to build the generator, then you can select an object. Reloading to before the mirelurk queen was killed did not fix the issue, nor did exiting the game and restarting it. Fast traveling to another location (e.g. Sanctuary) and back does not fix the issue, nor does the issue trail along to sanctuary.

At the time, the only workaround I was able to come up with was to either build a nuclear generator, a combination of medium, small, and windmill, or use the console to create a generator (player.placeatme 0058837). The generator I created did not have the animations of being on though, and activating it did not trigger these. This didn't fix the bug, but merely offered a workaround to continue the quest.

The true solution to this "bug" was to fully explore the Castle, which is not obvious seeing as Preston instructs you to power up the radio transmitter while everyone else is supposed to clear the place out. After killing the legendary Mirelurk and collecting/destroying all eggs and/or mirelurk hatchlings, I was able to build two medium generators in a room with a pylon in it. Issue resolved.

Preston deserting the battle[]

It is also possible under some conditions (Unknown the exact trigger, possibly if the Mirelurk queen leaves the battle temporarily?), so Preston's AI to derp out (http://i.imgur.com/JPCQ1OM.jpg), causing him to go back to sanctuary until the battle is complete, then walk all the way back to the Castle again for the debriefing.

Verification on one of the bugs (Marker to talk to the minutemen in the courtyard being away and being fixed by fast travelling) found in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Khg02YbuaqA at around 26:50 to 30:40

Attack Alternatives[]

Walkthrough just says to pick the one you want but is there any empirical evidence that one is better than another or does it really all come down to what you like doing? DngnRdr (talk) 19:47, June 8, 2016 (UTC)

Can't power up the radio[]

I've got 2 medium generators, and have linked a wire from one generator to the other, then to the coupling thing on the wooden framework above the radio transmitter, so that the light above the desk with the orange radio comes on, but the radio won't activate. When I try to attach a wire to the coupling thing that's directly on the radio, right next to the quest marker, the wire snaps to it but won't allow me to attach (when I hit the attach button, nothing happens). If I hit the cancel button, the wire stays attached, but there's still no power to the radio. I've done this quest before with no issues, but can't remember exactly where I attached the wire. Could this be another bug? I'm on the xbox, for reference. Obax42 (talk) 03:32, October 2, 2016 (UTC)
