Free travel[]

I think it should be noted you can still travel for free on the Duchess Gambit even without Nadine. Your able to pickpocket a ticket off of him, giving you a free trip to Point Lookout for just alittle bit of bad karma.--Moltenfungus 18:28, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Unique Guy[]

Beside having unique clothes this guy has very strange eyes. As I remember, no other characters have such eyes. [Master Mold] 92.126.84.197 08:30, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Killing Tobar[]

Is it possible to kill Tobar before he cuts out the chunk of your brain?

No, He's marked essential until Nadine takes controll of the Duchess' Gambit WouldYouKindly 23:18, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Tobar Missing?[]

Has anyone else had Tobar missing when they went to the ferry? I went to Point Lookout early in my game (level 14-15) just to get a Lever-Action Rifle and Workman's Clothes, but didn't do any quests. Now I've gone back to the jetty and he is nowhere to be found. I tried waiting and fast-travelling away, but he still did not reappear. I also tried saving and reloading, but had no luck.

This seems like it might be a bug, or I'm wondering if he wandered away due to some enemies or something.

EDIT: Okay, managed to fix this. I had to delete Point Lookout and re-download it. I lost my Lever-Action Rifle and Ghoul Ecology, but oh well. I'm on the Xbox 360, by the way. 66.143.33.75 03:41, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

This happened to me the other day. Nearly identical situation, on PC though. It seems to me that the problem is that Tobar apparently isn't essential to the operation of the Duchess Gambit.

Upon arrival in Point Lookout, Tobar exits the boat and waits on the dock. The expected player action is to exit the boat somewhere reasonably close to him whereupon a cutscene usually starts in which he mentions the smoke yonder and progresses "The Local Flavor" quest. If you manage to avoid this initial cutscene/dialogue (by jumping into the water, exiting the boat before Tobar or some other method) I think Tobar will stand on the dock indefinitely waiting for you to arrive and advance the dialogue. I don't recall my exact route but somehow I managed to avoid him on my return as well, boarded the boat and activated the bunk to travel to Wasteland. The trip occurred as per normal. Unfortunately, when I later wanted to return to PL, Tobar was nowhere around the boat. I waited a fair while for him to return but he never did, then recalled avoiding the interaction in PL. I guess he could have simply been "wandering" as stated in the last entry in the "Bugs" section, but as I am new to console use I don't know if there is any way to actually verify his true location. I figure he was still in PL patiently waiting for me to show up, thus making return to PL impossible (I only bought two tickets and used one to get to PL and one to return to Wastes). I eventually used the console to spawn him near me. When I talked to him he went into the dialogue that I had avoided regarding the smoke and advanced "The Local Flavor". Once he finished that I was able to interact with him as normal and buy another ticket.

Verification needed I suppose. 142.179.122.202 18:33, March 6, 2010 (UTC)

Hello all! I have this identical situation. I have completed Point Lookout on a previous save. I understand that a ticket needs to be bought and that you must sleep in the cot to get to PL. However, I have been there, came back to restock on certain things, and when I went back to the Riverboat Landing, Tobar seems to be missing. After an extensive search of the internet, I have noticed that this seems to be a common occourance for people who return before getting Nadine. I would like to know if anyone has a fix for this. I have tried removing all DLC and reinstalling, but that hasn't fixed the problem either. (PS3) Foxless 14:43, April 21, 2010 (UTC)

Duchess Gambit Key[]

I got this off of Tobar's dead body after I killed him. I didn't see anywhere to use it and didn't find anything on this site about it.--Jam287 10:11, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

I also found this key, and cannot find anything that it will open. Must have been for a chest that didn't make it into the game.—Preceding comment was unsigned. Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

after killing tobar[]

after i killed tobar it told me the brain was unconcious ---yeah same here.. I don't know what thats all about...

The brain going unconsious has nothing to do with tobar. The brain is the actor for professor calvert. he stays in a preservation shelter and and sometimes glitches and falls through the map. since he is considered essential, he is only rendered unconsious not dead. Your arent supposed to see the brain but pc users can use the console to find him. You can see his icon on your radar on the pier.Victoriesx42 15:43, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

Pickpocket glitch[]

For some reason if you caught pickpocketing and you have "Old painless" rifle he takes it from you even though it dosent tell you, i did this several times and every time i was caught he took ol painless as well as what id stolen.--93.96.201.245 17:53, November 9, 2009 (UTC)

Tobar glitch, or maybe something cooler[]

One time, I ran up to the boat to find Tobar not there. I walked back off the dock and looked around and saw him swimming out of the water with blood all over his body. And I had nothing to do with this! It was both crazy, weird, and wicked cool.

One word, Mirelurk. Sparky talk ??? . Ja this happened on mine to exept he wasnt covered in the blood and he wallked out the water like the zombie in land of the dead i was like WTF. Fryingpan57 00:54, July 18, 2011 (UTC)

Voice actor found[]

Tobar is voiced by Duncan Hood (aka, the Overseer, Dukov). He's one of the character's featured on Hood's Video Games voice demo on his website. POLE7645 03:38, March 3, 2011 (UTC)

Good job! Where did you find that out? I hope you didn't have to search too hard, seeing as it's... y'know... already listed on the page. :/ Nitty Tok. 03:45, March 3, 2011 (UTC)
I know. I was the one who added it on the page shortly after writing this. Just search Duncan Hood's official website (link on his page). Just mentioned it on the talk page to make sure no one thought I was sprouting nonsense.POLE7645 03:51, March 3, 2011 (UTC)

Weapon[]

It says on this article that he carries a lootable .44 scoped magnum, but when I killed him and looted him, I got a .44 Magnum with no scope called "Jayhawk" with similar damage to the lincoln repeater. I can't seem to find this particular weapon in the wiki too... 219.89.212.46 23:57, June 2, 2011 (UTC)

MISSING TOBAR[]

xbox360 The trigger for missing Tobar and yet avoid getting locked out from Point lookout is to buy three tickets.

  • To trigger missing Tobar after return to Capital Wasteland from Pointlookout is to avoid the arrival cut scene..
  • Upon returning to Capital wasteland leave the cell and upon return Tobar will have vanished from Dutchess Gambit.
  • Use the third ticket to travel back to Pointlookout and Tobar will again be waiting to engage the cut scen as though you had only just arrived.
  • This means you can initially avoid the main cut scene quest , loose Tobar yet still get back to Pointlookout--1000HrsFallout3 (talk) 08:02, July 27, 2013 (UTC)
