The Dragon is a ranged weapon in Fallout 76.

Background[]

The Dragon is an antique, muzzle-loading black powder rifle with four distinct barrels. It is loaded with .50 caliber balls.

Characteristics[]

Each shot from the Dragon releases four projectiles while consuming a single .50 caliber ball. Similar to shotguns, the damage dealt by the Dragon is divided evenly between each projectile. Despite this, the Dragon has the highest single-shot base damage among ballistic rifles. Its main drawback is the extremely long reload time, which takes approximately 10 seconds without Ground Pounder or legendary effects.

Locations[]

The Dragon cannot be obtained as a legendary weapon from random drops, with the exception of 1-star Dragons, which can be acquired from the "Nuclear Surprise!" at the SMART choice machine in Watoga High School.[1]

Notes[]

  • Any Dragon with an attached bayonet is considered legacy content.
  • Legacy weapons have a higher range of 419, while new world drop and vendor purchases are 228.[citation needed]

Behind the scenes[]

  • The Dragon was originally included in the Legendary ranged weapon loot pool. When Purveyor Murmrgh was introduced to the game in Wild Appalachia, several items, including the Dragon, were removed from the pool.
  • Prior to Wastelanders, the Vault-Tec boss trunks at the end of each Vault Raid in Vault 94 were able to drop 1/2/3-star Dragons.
  • 2/3-star Dragons were considered legacy content prior to the Steel Reign update.
  • Despite being a percussion gun, it is missing percussion caps on the percussion studs at the top pair of its barrels. The percussion studs at the bottom pair are modelled with a wire to electronically discharge them.

Bugs[]

  • PCPC When reloading, the gunpowder particles poured from the powder horn can sometimes be absent.
  • PCPC Xbox OneXbox One Playstation 4Playstation 4 Legendary Dragons incorrectly use the Explosive effect for shotguns. Each of the 4 projectiles deals 3% of the base damage, rather than 20%. It should be using a custom effect for 5%.[verified]
  • PCPC Xbox OneXbox One Playstation 4Playstation 4 Legendary Dragons do not drop from Legendary enemies, cannot be given as quest rewards, nor may they be obtained from The Purveyor.[verified]
  • PCPC Xbox OneXbox One Playstation 4Playstation 4 Prior to a patch,[clarification needed] the Dragon accepted the black powder rifle's bayonet loose mod.[patched]
  • PCPC Xbox OneXbox One Playstation 4Playstation 4 Prior to Patch 29, the Dragon was able to roll the Last Shot legendary effect, introduced by Patch 28.[patched]
  • PCPC In first-person view, when backing up against a wall or an obstructing surface with the Dragon equipped and drawn which causes its user's arms to point the gun away from the center of the screen, the Dragon's hammers will wave back and forth loosely.[verified]
