The Interloper is here, I can feel it clearly. Last night, in visions more real than the senses it called to me. And I go to it now. Signs are all around that I am not the only one to hear the call. Though where they have failed, I will not, for it summons me alone in the end. Before I go deeper, for the truth revealed changes all by its very nature... Let it be known, in this world, the Interloper has chosen Jeff Lane as the conduit of the unknowable... Together the hidden reality becomes manifest at long last.”— Jeff Lane
The Interloper is a creature appearing in Fallout 76.
Characteristics[edit | edit source]
The Interloper is a large stagnate creature lying in the hidden depths of the Lucky Hole Mine. It has the ability of psychosis and numerous other supernatural abilities, including alteration of the nearby landscape.
Surrounding the creature are large metallic masks, similar to ones you can find in Watoga and in a cave in Tanagra Town, leading to the thought of perhaps a previous ancient civilization that lived in the area.
Background[edit | edit source]
It is unknown of what the Interloper is or how it came to be. The only mention of him is in the pre-recorded holotapes by Jeff Lane describing how the creature is contacting him and others in the Mothman Cult. He first appeared to an individual known as "First Priestess of the Wood", who was eventually buried in the Mine. Later, he appeared once more in the mind of Jeff Lane, causing him to denounce The Mothman and seek him out in the depths of the Lucky Hole Mine along with the rest of the cultists. Upon the group moving in, multiple inexplicable supernatural events occurred, including a natural spring coming forth to feed them
It is unknown if the creature is alive or dead, perhaps being only in a “sleeping” state, as the tentacles on it’s face occasionally move and it bleeds if hit by the player-character.
Notes[edit | edit source]
- The Interloper seems to be just another game reference to Lovecraft, as is made in Fallout 3 with Dunwich Building and Blackhall and Fallout 4 with Dunwich Borers, the Kingsport Lighthouse, and the Pickman Gallery.
- the Interloper is also referred to as the First of the Wood
- the creature’s files indicate it is in the actor folder and is named “gutpuker”
- A unique audio file can be heard playing when near The Interloper if the effects are turned up.
Appearances[edit | edit source]
The Interloper appears only in Fallout 76.
