The Tidal Basin is a reservoir found in the Capital Wasteland in Fallout 3.

Background[]

The irradiated basin is filled with many row boats and tugboats.[1] Its surrounding territory is fought over by the Brotherhood of Steel, the Enclave, and the super mutants that occupy downtown Washington, D.C. Project Purity is an initiative underway in the nearby Jefferson Memorial.[2][3]

References[]

  1. The Lone Wanderer: "Anything I should know about this place?"
Alex Dargon: "I'd steer clear of the water if I were you. It's seeping in from the Tidal Basin, which means it's radioactive. If that's not bad enough, if there are any loose wires as the power comes back on... you might get a bit of a jolt. Know what I mean?"
    (Alex Dargon's dialogue)
  2. The Lone Wanderer: "What exactly is this 'Project Purity'?"
James: "It started as an idea, really. Remember the Bible passage your mother loved so much? Free, clean water for everyone. What a difference it could make in the lives of everyone here in the Wastes. Over time, that idea took the form of a purifier. Not like the one in the Vault, though. This one was gigantic, capable of purifying millions of gallons of water at once. We used the old Jefferson Memorial for the location, right on DC's Tidal Basin. Someday soon, I hope you'll see it work."
    (James' dialogue)
  3. The Lone Wanderer: "What was the point of it?"
Madison Li: "It was simple, really. 'Fresh, clean water for everyone.' Such a simple idea, and yet so impossible to realize. The plan was to build a facility that could purify all the water in the Tidal Basin at once. No radiation, no muck, just clear water. It just turned out to be more difficult than we anticipated."
    (Madison Li's dialogue)
