The trail carbine is a weapon in Fallout: New Vegas.

Characteristics[]

Trail carbine blown up

Trail carbine expanded

A lever-action semi-automatic rifle chambered for .44 Magnum rounds. It deals decent damage per shot, has a decent rate of fire and so a decent damage-per-second (DPS) value, deals decent critical hit damage, and costs a high amount of AP. It has very low spread, a magazine size of 8, a decently low weight of 5.5, has decent durability of 500, and has a moderately expensive caps value of 3900.

The weapon's tubular magazine is reloaded by hand one round at a time, allowing for it to be interrupted mid-reload and fired if needed.

Durability[]

The trail carbine can fire a total of about 2495 standard rounds, the equivalent of 312 reloads, from full condition before breaking.

Notes[]

The trail carbine can be considered a good weapon to use until the brush gun becomes available due to their similar mechanics, it having lower Guns and Strength requirements, and also being affected by the Cowboy perk.

Bugs[]

  • Playstation 3Playstation 3Playstation 3 When changing ammunition for the trail carbine the reload animation may loop and continuously reload. This can be remedied by just changing the ammunition type again. This glitch can also occur with any weapon with long reloading sequences, like the cowboy repeater and the brush gun. [verified]
  • PCPC Playstation 3Playstation 3Playstation 3 Xbox 360Xbox 360 If ammunition types are changed quickly, the gun will load in one bullet then be fully loaded. [verified]
  • Xbox 360Xbox 360 If using the glitch above without the 8 rounds of that ammo type required to fully load the gun, it will keep loading one round at a time until it is interrupted. [verified]
  • Xbox 360Xbox 360 Changing ammunition types quickly will cause lever and the receiver to be out half-cocked in the 3rd person view. [verified]
  • Xbox 360Xbox 360 When using the regular iron sights on this weapon, the bullet travels slightly above the front sight. To compensate, the player should aim slightly below the target, or turn off true iron sights. [verified]
  • PCPC Xbox 360Xbox 360 The reload animation of lever action weapons doesn't have a corresponding jam animation, so the weapon will not jam, even at near-broken conditions.[verified]
