Trent Bascom is a Californian farmer working at the NCR sharecropper farms in Fallout: New Vegas.

Found working on his crops in the south-western part of the farms, Trent is one of the more vocal critics of the NCR's approach to farmers at the sharecropper farms. He originally made a living in the Hub, but moved to the Mojave after the Thaler Act was enacted.[1] He specializes in maize and tobacco growing,[2] though the recent water shortages give him no end of troubles in meeting his quota.[3] Ignored by NCR authorities, he is prepared to throw in the towel and move back to California.[4] He considers moving to Redding to work with brahmin, even though he hates them.[5]

This character is involved in quests.

Effects of player's actions

  • The player's decision how to handle The White Wash and Hard Luck Blues will determine the fate of the sharecropper farms and Trent's decision.
    • If Hard Luck Blues or The White Wash are resolved in favor of the sharecropper farms, the water flow will be restored and Trent will remain at the farms.
    • If The White Wash is resolved in Westside's favor and Hard Luck Blues is not resolved or resolved in favor of the Vault 34 dwellers, the sharecropper farms are doomed and Bascom packs up his belongings, moving back to California.

Trent Bascom appears only in Fallout: New Vegas.

  1. The Courier: "You work these fields?"
Trent Bascom: "Sure do. Came from The Hub on account of the Thaler Act. Farming's decent work, but the whole thing's a bum deal."
    (Trent Bascom's dialogue)
  2. The Courier: "What kind of crops do you grow?"
Trent Bascom: "Everything I can. Farmers out here don't have the luxury of being picky. I get by mostly on maize and tobacco."
    (Trent Bascom's dialogue)
  3. The Courier: "What's the Thaler Act?"
Trent Bascom: "Something the politicians back in Shady Sands came up with. They pay us to move here and farm the land. They even protect the fields."
The Courier: "Why is this work a bum deal?"
Trent Bascom: "Bad soil and rationed water. It's to be expected around here, but the rationing's off. Worst part is NCR won't admit it. Pretty hard to meet their crop quotas with twenty percent less water than we're supposed to be getting. Not that OSI cares about any of this."
    (Trent Bascom's dialogue)
  4. The Courier: "Can't you just grow less crops?"
Trent Bascom: "I wouldn't be able to meet the quota, and the NCR would kick me out of my job, anyway. Nah, it's better I get out on my own terms."
    (Trent Bascom's dialogue)
  5. The Courier: "What are you going to do now?"
Trent Bascom: "I hear the Brahmin ranchers out in Redding are looking for some hard workers, so I might try there first. I hate working with Brahmin, though."
    (Trent Bascom's dialogue)
