Raul, the Enclave mechanic in Fallout 2
Does anyone know if the games in Fallout Collection are UK version, or are they already patched or unpatched with patches included? I don't know if I should buy Fallout Colletion or wait for buying Fallout Trilogy (is it US original unpatched version?) --NovaRain 02:08, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

Background
I got my Fallout Trilogy and installed it today (Woot ^^) but it only lets me play Fallout 2. Anyone else have this problem/know how to fix it?

Born in 2047, Raul has had a long and storied history. Before the war, Raul grew up on Hidalgo Ranch just outside of Mexico City. He was a good shooter and mechanic, both of which occasionally got him in trouble with the law. During the Great War, the ranch he lived in was spared from atomic destruction due to it being located in a remote area. Soon, the ranch was beset by refugees seeking food and shelter. The Tejada family was as accommodating as they can be, but the amount of refugees were too much for them to handle. Raul's father was forced to turn down any more refugees seeking help, due to their resources becoming scarce. At one point, Raul and his father even had to drive off the remaining refugees, as things became violent. Later that night, about two dozen men returned and set fire to the ranch, barring the doors from the outside to prevent any escape. Raul awoke to the smell of smoke and was able to sneak himself and his sister, Rafaela Tejada out a window, receiving burns across his body in the process. The rest of his family, consisting of his mother, father, grandmother, two brothers, and two sisters, perished in the flames. As they escaped, a few of the men pursued them. Raul killed the pursuers, and left the rest to live, since he did not want to throw away his life in revenge; he still had a sister to take care of.
:I have this disc, but I can't play Tactics, as it says I need the Tactics disc in to play it. Of course the Trilogy is a different disc, so I can only play 1 and 2. RudiganRex 07:01, September 21, 2009 (UTC)

The pair traveled to the radioactive ruin of Mexico City to begin anew, amidst the large number of looters in the city. They both scraped by as scavengers, constantly looking for food and medicine to treat Raul's burns. The intense radiation of their surroundings soon started affecting Raul, commencing the first stages of his "ghoulification". It was also there that Raul found a novelty costume shop, where he found a Vaquero outfit in good condition while searching for cloth to wrap his wounds. Raul took the outfit, and wore it as he returned to his sister. For the first time since the bombs fell, Rafaela laughed. Soon, Raul became a legend; his sharp eye and top-notch gunslinging always meant the end for glory seekers who were looking to prove themselves. Even though this kept Raul and sister safe from trouble, it always created more.

  +
Suffering from radiation poisoning, Raul eventually became too ill to scavenge with his sister for food. As such, she was left to provide for the two on her own. One day, after she failed to return from a market where she had been scavenging for food, Raul went in search of her only to find her brutally murdered, her corpse violated so horribly that she was only identifiable by a tiny scar on her knee. Fueled by anger, Raul tracked down the raiders responsible and killed them to the very last man. He salvaged what was left of the raider gang and left Mexico City, now the lone survivor of his family.
I think the White Label Collection (The one you can buy in the UK) uses the US version of the games because it has Children in it. Beware btw, as on some batches, the fallout tactics disks are corrupted.

Can anyone confirm if the non-White Label European releases are cencored or not? I have been thinking of buying the collection from somewhere in Europe, but only IF it is not cencored - then I'll have to get it from the states. VonVince 00:31, May 11, 2010 (UTC)

Leaving every aspect of his former life behind, including as Raul cleverly says "his face", he wandered to the Gulf Coast and inhabited an unclaimed Petró-Chico refinery. There, he spent a long time thinking about his life. He realized that his gunslinging hadn't given him anything; he discarded his guns, and took off his old vaquero outfit. He put on a Petró-Chico jumpsuit that he found, and took the name "Miguel"; the name found on the jumpsuit's nametag.
:The non-white label collection I picked up on amazon UK is quite strange. Fallout 1 is alows max violence but has no children present, whereas Fallout 2 allows max violence and has children. I haven't added any patches to the game so I don't know why it includes kids in one game and not in the other. As for tactics i'd love to tell you what it's like, but unfortunately I can't play it, and cracking it is proving to be problematic. Hope this helps.--GreyMullen 20:33, January 21, 2011 (UTC)

Bearing a new identity, he eventually arrived in the Arizona town of Tucson, now known as Two Sun. He settled there, becoming a mechanic and a general handyman, his guns stashed away where they could do no further harm (although he kept them oiled for professional pride). After 75 years of relative peace, he met Claudia; a prostitute working in a local brothel who bore a striking resemblance to Rafaela. Spurred by this reminder of what he lost, he took the time to look out for her, though for obvious reasons never visited her.

This peace was not to last. Arizona, overrun with raiders and tribals before the rise of Caesar's Legion brought stability to the region, brought "Dirty Dave" and his six brothers to town looking for ammunition. Raul sold it to them, hoping they would leave now that they had what they wanted. Instead, they decided to take their edge off in the brothel. They massacred the place and took Claudia as a prisoner as they left. Angered, Raul pursued the gang. They had a head-start, and slept nights; Raul didn't. After three days of continuous pursuit, he finally caught up to them. By the time he found Claudia, she was already dead. This spurred a familiar feeling on Raul; the vengeance he felt for Rafaela's death. Enraged, Raul charged head-on to the middle of the camp, and kept shooting his guns until Dirty Dave and his gang were all dead. Youth wasn't on his side anymore; the battle left Raul severely injured and nearly lifeless. After days of gathering his energy to carry his injured body, Raul returned back to town.
I'm just bought this game from the store and am trying to get it to work on my brand new Windows 7 laptop. Unfortunately, Fallout 1 has issues where everything looks like it is covered in not-so-pretty rainbows (haven't even tried Fallout 2 yet). Apparently, this is a rather widespread problem, but every solution people have suggested (short of downloading patches) seems to work for everyone but me. I clicked on the link given to download the patch (nma-forums or something to that extent) but my anti-virus starts screaming at me that the site is dangerous and probably brimming with cyber-AIDS or something. Attempting to even play the game for a couple minutes just for the hell of it caused it to crash (that may have been a fluke, I don't know).

Dejected, Raul wandered west to the Mojave Wasteland. He swore to himself that he was done with the gunslinging life, since he is starting to feel his age. While there, he stumbled upon the signal of the Black Mountain Radio, and started listening to it to pass time. One day, he lost the signal being transmitted and decided to have a look. He ended up meeting a nightkin named Tabitha, the radio's broadcaster and supreme ruler of Black Mountain. Raul fulfilled his purpose and fixed the radio's transmitter, but much to his dismay, Tabitha decided to keep him; after all, he can't disagree with a super mutant twice his size. Raul was then turned into Black Mountain's handyman, fixing toasters and things the super mutants wanted fixed. He was also tasked with the repair of Rhonda, Tabitha's robot and best friend, to which he is unsuccessful. To guarantee his cooperation, Raul is imprisoned on a building near the mountain's broadcast station.
Is there any way to get these games (at least Fallouts 1 and 2) to play on a Windows 7 laptop? If there is a patch to download, is there any place I could download it that is safe and reliable?Son of God-Enel 17:33, July 25, 2010 (UTC)

:NMA is very safe. You could also try Atomic Gamer, if you don't trust NMA. Those patches will make it work; the Sfall in the latest release of the Restoration Project will too. Change the colors from 8 to 16 bit in the Sfall menu. Nitty Tok. 17:35, July 25, 2010 (UTC)

:Thanks, but unfortunately, the high resolution patch that everyone says will magically fix the game did absolutely nothing. Not only that, but I've confirmed that the game crashes every time the Vault Dweller takes a hit, making the small rat just outside the door to Vault 13 the most powerful adversary I've ever faced. Is there a specific page or link that has something I can use to fix the game completely? I just bought this game from Gamestop and it's really annoying that it can't just work properly.Son of God-Enel 19:04, July 25, 2010 (UTC)

A new taste of adventure reminds Raul of his tumultuous past, prompting him to consider if he should embrace his old gunslinging ways. When compared to the other human companions of the Wasteland, Raul is perhaps the most tolerant towards the Legion when compared to everyone else who would suffer in their rule. He is not affected by the Legion's presence on the wasteland and admires the security and order brought by them, although he wouldn't be able to join them due to their hatred towards all forms of mutants. He also has quite an insightful amount of knowledge about Mr. House, as Raul lived long enough to see his pre-War exploits.

Notes
  +
* Like Desmond Lockheart, Raul's mustache survived his ghoulification.
  +
* Like Jason Bright, Dean Domino, and (potentially) Moira Brown, Raul's voice is not raspy or hoarse, a trait rare among ghouls.
  +
* Raul is exceedingly difficult to pickpocket, even with the aid of a Stealth Boy.
  +
* Raul is the only non-faction non-player character in the game who can repair items up to 100%.
  +
* All caps paid for his repairs vanish from his inventory when he becomes your companion again.
  +
* Before recruiting him as a companion, Raul will repair items for a fee in his prison room. After recruiting him and asking him for repairs, Raul will wisecrack and recommend asking him at his shack. As long as he is dismissed as a companion to his shack, he will be able to make repairs.
  +
* To free Raul without having to pick any locks, read entry 6 on the non-locked terminal in the same building he is imprisoned in to receive the password (123456789) for the locked terminal next to his prison door. This will let you disengage the lock without having to hack the locked terminal or lockpicking the door (which requires a Lockpick skill of 100).
  +
* When asked what skills he has to offer, Raul claims that his primary value is being a "walking encyclopedia," but he rarely has anything insightful to say. Most of his banter consist of ridiculing the Courier's choices through sarcastic praise and insincere enthusiasm.
  +
* If a Sunset Sarsaparilla (or another sweet item, such as bubblegum) is put into his inventory, he'll say one of the following quotes:
  +
** "You're going to rot my teeth, boss. What's left of them anyways."
  +
** "How did you know I had sweet tooth, boss?"
  +
** "Ahh, sarsaparilla. That's just what this dry old throat needs."
  +
* Raul will make his state of being apparent if the player makes him do certain actions.
  +
** If made to wear heavy armor, he will complain that the player is going to "destroy [his] knees faster than nature."
  +
** When sneaking, he will makes various remarks about how this won't go well. Primarily, he'll retort "Keeping quiet, unless my creaking knees give us away..." If convinced to take up his gun-slinging ways, he'll sarcastically comment on how well a ghoul vaquero will blend.
  +
** When asked to stay close, he will say "any closer and you'll need a RadAway, boss." Only glowing ones irradiate their surroundings, so this is just his sense of humor.
  +
** When damaged enough, he will say "Boss! The pain from my wounds is starting to outweigh the pain from my arthritis!" He will also say "Boss! Is my jaw still attached? Good, can I get some help to keep it that way?"
  +
* Various non-player characters will comment on Raul's ghoul state when he is your companion:
  +
** Most wastelanders will often comment negatively about his ghoul state, saying things such as "Your friend smells like a bag of rotting meat" or "Your friend is one ugly motherfucker!"
  +
** The Fiends in Vault 3 will often remark "Your friend smells like ass" and "Take your pet ghoul away from me" when fighting them.
  +
** Gomorrah floor managers will treat Raul normally like other gamblers, assuring him that he can "have a good time" even if he's a ghoul.
  +
** Hookers dancing in front of Gomorrah will occasionally comment, "Mmm, I haven't had a ghoul before. Do I get to keep the tip?" - This is a reference to a dirty joke in which a man with leprosy hires a prostitute, and says he "let her keep the tip", referring to a specific part of his anatomy detaching while she was servicing him.
  +
* There will be unique dialogue when Raul is taken to certain locations:
  +
** When brought into the NCR Embassy at the Strip, an MP will randomly approach you just to comment on Raul (more specifically, to the presence of ghouls on the Strip).
  +
** If taken to the REPCONN Test Site, Raul will comment on the attacking feral ghouls by stating, "Hey I'm one of you!!! Don't eat me, eat the smooth-skin! Oh, uh, sorry boss."
  +
** When taken to Jacobstown for the first time, he will comment "If these super mutants take us hostage and make us fix toasters for them, it's on you", referring to his time at Black Mountain.
  +
* If you obtain Raul as a companion before dealing with Tabitha, she will broadcast her displeasure through her radio station, saying "No! I won't let you take my Raul!" Afterwards, the station will no longer play music.
  +
* If you keep asking who he is after the first time, he will eventually ask you if you got shot in the head because you forget so fast.
  +
* If asked why his jumpsuit says Miguel, he will simply state: "I don't know; probably because it used to be Miguel's."
  +
* He is similar to Vic from Fallout 2 in that they are both enslaved, are repairmen, and refer to the player character as "boss".
  +
* Raul has various sarcastic quips when the player is vilified by different factions such as the NCR, Caesar's Legion, and the Brotherhood of Steel.
  +
* Despite his sarcasm, it appears that Raul enjoys the Courier's company, judging by his response when dismissed.
  +
* While the English version of the game does not make a big deal of his accent other than his correctly pronouncing Spanish words and names, the Spanish and French versions give Raul a heavily stereotyped "charro mexicano" voice.
  +
  +
Notable quotes
  +
* "My name is Raul Alfonso Tejada. Can I leave now? Or did you want to come back and ask me again in five minutes?"
  +
* "[Sigh] No boss. I'm a prisoner of the crazy Super Mutant with the wig and glasses, and I was kind of hoping you'd set me free. Or maybe I'm not a pretty enough damsel for that, huh?"
  +
* "Sure, boss. I'd be happy to prolong my captivity and psychological abuse to tighten some lug nuts for you."
  +
* "Sure, boss, the old man will crawl around in the dirt to keep hidden."
  +
* "Don't worry, Boss, the decrepit old man can carry all your stuff for you. Really."
  +

Appearances
Raul only appears in Fallout: New Vegas.
  +
  +
Behind the scenes
  +
* Raul Tejada was written by Travis Stout.
  +
* His quote about the super mutants asking him to fix toasters is yet another Fallout nod to the strangely useful skill in Wasteland, "Toaster Repair."

Bugs
I'm an open book, boss. Granted, the book's in Spanish and some of the pages have fallen out, but I'm an open book.

Raul Alfonso Tejada is a ghoul mechanic and gunslinger living in the Prison building at the top of Black Mountain in 2281.

Background

If freed from captivity, he will join the Courier out of gratitude. A new taste of adventure reminds Raul of his tumultuous past, prompting him to consider if he should embrace his old gunslinging ways. In this case, he will be forced to decide between two different ways of life.

  • Old School Ghoul: While Raul is an active companion, talk to and exhaust all dialogue options for Loyal, Corporal Sterling, and Ranger Andy. Upon finishing the last conversation, Raul will open up a new dialogue with the Courier. (Note: Killing any of the non-player characters will cause the mission to fail resulting in Raul's new apparel to be unobtainable, except through console commands)

Other interactions

  • He is a very competent repairman, but will only offer repairs at his shack, and even then will not offer a discount. He must first be dismissed as a companion ("for the best") before repairs can be done.

After a long and eventful life, Raul's luck finally ran out during his time with the Courier. Raul dies. (Will override all other endings)
2
Raul end slide 01
Still grappling with self-doubt over his usefulness in the face of old age, Raul was never able to find peace with himself. Eventually, he left the Mojave and assumed a new name, as he had done so many times before. Free Raul or acquire him as a companion, do not complete his personal quest Old School Ghoul.
3
Raul end slide 01
Invigorated by his travels with the Courier, Raul once more took up his guns in memory of his lost Rafaela. Soon after, the Mojave was filled with tales of the ghost-vaquero who hunts down those who prey on the weak. Acquire Raul as a companion and complete his personal quest, Old School Ghoul, by convincing him to become a vaquero again.
4
Raul end slide 01
Convinced that his time as a gunslinger was past, Raul made peace with the idea of growing old. After traveling with the Courier for a time, he retired and settled down in Outer Vegas, where he would spend his days fixing ancient machinery. Acquire Raul as a companion and complete his personal quest, Old School Ghoul, by agreeing that his time as a gunslinger has passed.

Notes

  • Like Desmond Lockheart, Raul's mustache survived his ghoulification.
  • Like Jason Bright, Dean Domino, and (potentially) Moira Brown, Raul's voice is not raspy or hoarse, a trait rare among ghouls.
  • Raul is exceedingly difficult to pickpocket, even with the aid of a Stealth Boy.
  • Raul is the only non-faction non-player character in the game who can repair items up to 100%.
  • All caps paid for his repairs vanish from his inventory when he becomes your companion again.
  • Before recruiting him as a companion, Raul will repair items for a fee in his prison room. After recruiting him and asking him for repairs, Raul will wisecrack and recommend asking him at his shack. As long as he is dismissed as a companion to his shack, he will be able to make repairs.
  • To free Raul without having to pick any locks, read entry 6 on the non-locked terminal in the same building he is imprisoned in to receive the password (123456789) for the locked terminal next to his prison door. This will let you disengage the lock without having to hack the locked terminal or lockpicking the door (which requires a Lockpick skill of 100).
  • When asked what skills he has to offer, Raul claims that his primary value is being a "walking encyclopedia," but he rarely has anything insightful to say. Most of his banter consist of ridiculing the Courier's choices through sarcastic praise and insincere enthusiasm.
  • If a Sunset Sarsaparilla (or another sweet item, such as bubblegum) is put into his inventory, he'll say one of the following quotes:
    • "You're going to rot my teeth, boss. What's left of them anyways."
    • "How did you know I had sweet tooth, boss?"
    • "Ahh, sarsaparilla. That's just what this dry old throat needs."
  • Raul will make his state of being apparent if the player makes him do certain actions.
    • If made to wear heavy armor, he will complain that the player is going to "destroy [his] knees faster than nature."
    • When sneaking, he will makes various remarks about how this won't go well. Primarily, he'll retort "Keeping quiet, unless my creaking knees give us away..." If convinced to take up his gun-slinging ways, he'll sarcastically comment on how well a ghoul vaquero will blend.
    • When asked to stay close, he will say "any closer and you'll need a RadAway, boss." Only glowing ones irradiate their surroundings, so this is just his sense of humor.
    • When damaged enough, he will say "Boss! The pain from my wounds is starting to outweigh the pain from my arthritis!" He will also say "Boss! Is my jaw still attached? Good, can I get some help to keep it that way?"
  • Various non-player characters will comment on Raul's ghoul state when he is your companion:
    • Most wastelanders will often comment negatively about his ghoul state, saying things such as "Your friend smells like a bag of rotting meat" or "Your friend is one ugly motherfucker!"
    • The Fiends in Vault 3 will often remark "Your friend smells like ass" and "Take your pet ghoul away from me" when fighting them.
    • Gomorrah floor managers will treat Raul normally like other gamblers, assuring him that he can "have a good time" even if he's a ghoul.
    • Hookers dancing in front of Gomorrah will occasionally comment, "Mmm, I haven't had a ghoul before. Do I get to keep the tip?" - This is a reference to a dirty joke in which a man with leprosy hires a prostitute, and says he "let her keep the tip", referring to a specific part of his anatomy detaching while she was servicing him.
  • There will be unique dialogue when Raul is taken to certain locations:
    • When brought into the NCR Embassy at the Strip, an MP will randomly approach you just to comment on Raul (more specifically, to the presence of ghouls on the Strip).
    • If taken to the REPCONN Test Site, Raul will comment on the attacking feral ghouls by stating, "Hey I'm one of you!!! Don't eat me, eat the smooth-skin! Oh, uh, sorry boss."
    • When taken to Jacobstown for the first time, he will comment "If these super mutants take us hostage and make us fix toasters for them, it's on you", referring to his time at Black Mountain.
  • If you obtain Raul as a companion before dealing with Tabitha, she will broadcast her displeasure through her radio station, saying "No! I won't let you take my Raul!" Afterwards, the station will no longer play music.
  • If you keep asking who he is after the first time, he will eventually ask you if you got shot in the head because you forget so fast.
  • If asked why his jumpsuit says Miguel, he will simply state: "I don't know; probably because it used to be Miguel's."
  • He is similar to Vic from Fallout 2 in that they are both enslaved, are repairmen, and refer to the player character as "boss".
  • Raul has various sarcastic quips when the player is vilified by different factions such as the NCR, Caesar's Legion, and the Brotherhood of Steel.
  • Despite his sarcasm, it appears that Raul enjoys the Courier's company, judging by his response when dismissed.
  • While the English version of the game does not make a big deal of his accent other than his correctly pronouncing Spanish words and names, the Spanish and French versions give Raul a heavily stereotyped "charro mexicano" voice.

Notable quotes

  • "My name is Raul Alfonso Tejada. Can I leave now? Or did you want to come back and ask me again in five minutes?"
  • "[Sigh] No boss. I'm a prisoner of the crazy Super Mutant with the wig and glasses, and I was kind of hoping you'd set me free. Or maybe I'm not a pretty enough damsel for that, huh?"
  • "Sure, boss. I'd be happy to prolong my captivity and psychological abuse to tighten some lug nuts for you."
  • "Sure, boss, the old man will crawl around in the dirt to keep hidden."
  • "Don't worry, Boss, the decrepit old man can carry all your stuff for you. Really."

Appearances

Raul only appears in Fallout: New Vegas.

Behind the scenes

  • Raul Tejada was written by Travis Stout.
  • His quote about the super mutants asking him to fix toasters is yet another Fallout nod to the strangely useful skill in Wasteland, "Toaster Repair."

Bugs

  • PCPC Unlike other companions, Raul won't walk around while in the Lucky 38, merely standing in the main room to the right of the door until spoken to.
  • Playstation 3Playstation 3Playstation 3 After fast-traveling to a location, Raul will occasionally start running away as quick as he can for no reason, and cannot be interacted with. Loading to a new area will correct this.
  • PCPC The back of his head clips through many hats and other forms of headgear.
  • Xbox 360Xbox 360 When Raul awakens after being knocked unconscious, he will sometimes claim to have had a nightmare of Petro Chico Boy "stealing his chicharrones (Spanish for pork rinds)", but the subtitles will incorrectly use the word "chitlins" instead of "chicharrones".
  • Xbox 360Xbox 360 Sometimes if the player speaks to him in the Lucky 38 presidential suite, a generic Great Khan will spawn.
  • Playstation 3Playstation 3Playstation 3 By pressing "Take All" when pickpocketing Raul, the caps will still appear in the player's inventory despite being caught. To repeat this again, take him outside of his shack and dismiss him as a companion. This means you can get infinite free repairs.
  • Xbox 360Xbox 360 When leaving a casino, if Raul is given a weapon, the weapon's weight will be present, but no item can be seen.
  • Playstation 3Playstation 3Playstation 3 His voice wil change if given a stimpak.
