Youtube Videos

Hello CryonBrion!

I've been noticing your video contributions and i wanted to thank you personally for helping us expand The Vault.
Youtube videos can be embedded, they should go under a ==Video== header toward the bottom of the page (after Trivia sections). The way to code the video into the page is to use <youtube>videoID</youtube>. Where ID is the part of the URL address after the = sign. So if the URL is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SA7XoEKJrgg then the ID is the part after = sign "SA7XoEKJrgg" Example: <youtube>SA7XoEKJrgg</youtube>.
Thanks again :) Ash Nuke.jpg AshRandom (Talk) 16:11, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Direct Links

I'll make sure to include a direct link at the end of the Video description. Ash Nuke.jpg AshRandom (Talk) 17:08, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Other People's Videos

Even though I can't remove them, I'm definitely going to put your youtube videos first, the production value is excellent on the videos you've been making, and from the one's I've watched none of them have annoying voice-overs, like some of these kids with their high pitched 10yr old voices... Ash Nuke.jpg AshRandom (Talk) 21:36, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

(See: Help:The Vault) 'Signing off with your user name (~~~~) is for discussion and forum posts only. Never leave a signature when contributing to an article."

Please move your video contact info to the discussion pages Ash Nuke.jpg AshRandom (Talk) 06:09, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
Ah, ok. So i cant use that "Report problem" as a link to my talk-page? So what would be the best way to do it then? --CryonBrion 06:17, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
Same article pages, just on the discussion side, put it at the top of the page if you're worried people will miss it. Ash Nuke.jpg AshRandom (Talk) 06:20, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
Ok. Thank you =)

Isn't there an easier way to do the video thing than editing every single article every time you want to make some minor change to them? Why not just leave them be. It doesn't have to look pretty to work. If if you really need it to be perfect, make a transclusion template, put that on the articles/talkpages, then whenever you want to make a change to all of them, all you have to do is change a single page. Because, seriously, you're killing RC. Though you might want to ask Ausir if transclution templates are allowed on this wiki. --Macros 12:29, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

Yea, ur right of course, but i dont know how to do it. Im very new to this all and im just trying to learn ASAP. And sure, i want everything to be as good as possible (bit of a perfectionist), and to serve people as well as possible ;) Im going to ask Ausir about this. Thank you =) --CryonBrion 12:48, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
Well i decided to ask AshRandom first for the help in this matter. Lets see what he says :P --CryonBrion 12:48, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
Ash is a she, not a he. :) Unfortunately, the <youtube> extension code itself cannot contain template parameters. But other than that, I'll see what I can do. Ausir 13:33, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
Uuuh, how embarrising ;( Sorry AshRandom if u read this ! Ok, great. Thank you so much =) --CryonBrion 13:48, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
Whatever! I'm totally a dude.... hehehe ;) Ash Nuke.jpg AshRandom (Talk) 16:41, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

Template Video Note

Okay I've set up the template for you and fixed the way you set the links to your name (you don't have to and in fact shouldn't use a full URL to links within wikia)... User:CryonBrion/VideoNote... Insert the transclusion line "{{:User:CryonBrion/VideoNote}}" without quotes at the top of the page and it will appear. Ash Nuke.jpg AshRandom (Talk) 17:15, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
I understand that english isn't your fist language so I did my best to reword the note to make the most sense. Also, that's one hell of a long header, shifted it around, don't worry, it's still just as colorful! Ash Nuke.jpg AshRandom (Talk) 17:30, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
Yes, thank you =) U can do what u see is the best, to that page, to my talk page or what ever. I trust u already ;) Thanks again! --CryonBrion 17:35, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

Template Protection

I don't think you should worry about it, but, I suppose you do have two choices. You can simply set the page to "watch", (which happens usually by default once you've edited a page). Check it to see if it says "Unwatch" at the top, if so then it's already been check-marked, if not click "Watch" to receive emails when the page changes. The other option is that I could set sysop-only page protection on it, and nobody but a handful of us admins would have access. Unfortunately you would no longer have access yourself!

On the plus side, I already have the page watched, so does Porter I'd assume. We'll see it if something changes. And as editing someone else's user-pages is highly frowned upon, and vandalizing someone else's user-page is considered egregious vandalism; anyone that does so will get banned. Let me know what you decide. Ash Nuke.jpg AshRandom (Talk) 10:33, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

New Blackhawk Video Needed

I got lost in vault 92 and figured I could use the video guide to find my way out. Nope, the guide doesn't actually lead people to the violin, or to the sheet music, or along the vault-path using the basement (the no lockpick path). Really all it showed was some character picking up stuff, it didn't actually guide anyone anywhere so it's not a guide is it? It's just a montage of someone completing the quest, LOL Ash Nuke.jpg AshRandom (Talk) 12:36, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Yes, ur right, but there is always something that needs to be cut off, since the video is already nearly 10 minutes (max length). And i sometimes want to leave something out from the video, because i dont want to play the whole game for everyone. This way there is something left to figure out for players by them selves. If i did a complete walkthru, it would take 2 parts :( But, of course i can do a separate video, "Vault 92 guide" or something. --Youtube1smaller.jpeg CryonBrion (Talk) 13:07, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
Skip the obvious parts, you need to include the important information, not the useless looking at junk in a closet parts.... Anyway you can run through the basement of vault 92 all the way to the violin, then over to the bathroom's sheet music in 3mins easily. I made it in less than two after I knew the path. Show the path or it's not a guide. Ash Nuke.jpg AshRandom (Talk) 13:30, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
Sure. But remember, i made that video mostly for Blackhawk, not for the Vault 92. So, i made a guide for that path. We can put it next to that Blackhawk video, as a Walkthru guide for 92. Is that ok? Or do really want me to do the whole thing again? --Youtube1smaller.jpeg CryonBrion (Talk) 13:41, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Excellent, you could even put that on the vault 92 page ;)

"You have the violin you've done it!!"Ash Nuke.jpg AshRandom (Talk) 15:25, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Re:Quest Videos

I'd say do a run-through and call it "basic". Create alt-quest-path videos for bonus paths only, with the distinction being that if the path doesn't gain the player anything extra, money, items, xp then don't bother making a guide for it. If it's something simple like a speech path, you could always cut-frame with a board saying "Optional" and throw it in. Ash Nuke.jpg AshRandom (Talk) 06:49, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Well, if videos are almost identical, and the only major difference being the fact that they were uploaded by different users, I'd say the newer one should be removed. If there are other major differences, they can both stay, although of course whether a difference is major enough should sometimes be decided on a case-to-case basis. Ausir 06:54, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Ok. Thank you =) I have made some changes now, i hope i didn't do anything wrong. Youtube1smaller.jpeg CryonBrion (Talk) 07:57, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Re: A new template

Well, personally I'd rather add the videos to the individual Bobblehead pages (like you did with the unique weapons) and simply place a link to the Fallout 3 video guides (bobbleheads) page on Vault Boy Bobblehead.

If you want a template, it's no problem to do something like the Video notice Ash made for the talk pages. I don't have much time today though so you'd have to wait until tomorrow if you want this :-)

And you're right, it should be "at the bottom". // Porter21 U | T 19:14, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

New video embed functionality

Just wanted to let you know that with the new video functionality you can add videos to articles the same way as images (see Scoped Gauss Rifle for example), in case you didn't know yet :-) Makes it easier to maintain the videos as if, for example, you decide to replace a video you only have to change the link at the video page instead of having to edit each article it is linked in. // Porter21 U | T 11:37, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Could you link the page? I don't know which one you are referring to. // Porter21 U | T 11:47, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Re: OA videos

Sure, I'll take a look tomorrow if you send me the links :-) // Porter21 U | T 23:00, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Looking good to me. The only thing that could be improved in my opinion is the start of the very first video, it takes almost two minutes until something happens - maybe travel to Red Racer Factory and start going towards Bailey's Crossroads while you wait for the transmission to play? // Porter21 U | T 10:14, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

The Tenderizer

I believe I encountered a holotape containing the password to the computer in your tenderizer video. I think it is located behind the Nuka vending machine. I will just go and confirm this, if you do before I do, would you kindly add it to your videos description? Booting up the game now, to check, though my character is in the anchorage sim (Ironicly :P) And may take a while to get there. I posted a comment on the YT vid (as JethoJetty) Jetholt (Jetty) 17:24, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, its there. Now, I don't know how to create Pictures on the Wikia, so I will try and link you to ImageShack. Its Here: http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/2034/accesscodes.jpg

Rockbreaker's Last Gas

I found Rockbreaker's after reading the Wiki about the Victory Rifle. Then I noticed Rockbreaker's doesn't seem to be listed amywhere in the lists of places in Fallout 3. Perhaps you would like to edit those pages and add Rockbreaker's to the list. (If I am mistaken, my apologies.)

--Rolle123yo 19:42, 1 July 2009 (UTC)rolle123yo i have a question? do you know where the awesome weapon called the firelance is?

You get it from a random event I think. (It also comes with alien power cells, 24, I think) TheMaintenanceGuy 20:48, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

Whats going on?

Not sure what you're referring to. Videos are subject to the same rules as all other content, it needs to be relevant to the subject and provide useful information. We also don't need multiple videos for the same thing, that just clutters the article.

The only videos I remember removing are the latter, i.e. if there were multiple videos for obtaining a gun or something, and some videos of the kind "hey look how I run around and shoot things with this gun" which - while probably entertaining - are not very useful. -- Porter21 (talk) 00:00, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

I just checked the page history, I did not delete any videos in the Metal Blaster article. I made 4 edits to the page, 3 of which were corrections to the article text and one was removing the "infobox incomplete" tag. And yes, Kingclyde is a sys-op as well so I'd suggest you take it up with him or Ausir. -- Porter21 (talk) 01:19, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Re: Hi there !

There's currently discussion regarding video policy at Forum:Videos, you're always free to join the discussion there. I understand your frustration, as you can see some admins are just as frustrated.

Regarding people replacing your videos, there's really not much we can do about that. We cannot admin-protect every single article with a video; a wiki primarily lives from people contributing to articles and protecting a large number of pages would be very counterproductive in that regard. As such, your proposition of being the official video provider is really not feasible to implement, it would simply be too much additional work load for the admins. Your support is appreciated but you have to understand that the admins here have their hands full with keeping the articles in shape. This is one of the most popular wikias (as of Mothership Zeta release, we were the most popular) with a high number of edits per day and since the admins are volunteers as well, we only have whatever free time we have available to keep this place in shape (just like you only have limited time to make your videos).

It's sad that Ash left but there's nothing we can do about that, she left of her own accord. And I can hardly drop my personal projects and responsibilites and take over hers, I simply have no time for that.

I hope this has cleared things up a bit for you. Please forgive me if some of it is maybe a bit blunt and not as diplomatic, I don't mean it personal and I really appreciate your efforts to help out (but I'm not all that well today and have a hard time thinking of fancy wording). As I said, you can always join the discussion at Forum:Videos. -- Porter21 (talk) 08:34, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

You mentioned something on porter's page about making the wikia better, well in truth,You are making this wikia a better place, although, correct labelling would be nice, for example, you'd have to label it "Obtaining and Testing",personally, although some people are against your idea's,i support them, reading some words can't give you a huge-ass idea about the weapon's capability. Mr.Wolf 10:58, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

I'm not exactly in good with the admins, but you could use the add-on videos page (Operation anchorgae videos etc.) to keep your videos and put an italic link

For extra information/testing,please visit (Video page name here)

Or....make a sub-page out of your user page.

In my own opinion, the admins dont seem to be thinking properly, you have a wife/kids (i think) and a job to attend to,and make these videos from your spare time (WHich could of been used to relax or something) abd through the kindess of your heart, and what do the admins say? "Nah,no videos".Of course,if you'd like to discuss this in a more discreet place,i have two wikias which can be dead sometimes. Fiedoggist High Priest 15:50, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Just wanted to say that you make some great, high quality videos for this site and I hope you don't think that it goes unnoticed or unappreciated. So, in short, big kudos! Mr. Sully (T·C) 02:45, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

Hey Dude, I've always wanted to know your badass inventory that you use for your favourite profile. Please let me know on my talk page xD. Cheers Orcidea. Hazadragon 16:04, 25 August 2009 (UTC) Talk

Sorry I should've been more specific, the stuff that you usually carry xD
Meh,i just carry around some simple things, fancy weapons and armor dont interest me.Anyway, cryon,by any chance (If you have spare time) could you pay a visit to fallout eleventy wikia?Seeing as you mentioned modding or something on your youtube page,i was thinking you'd be interested. Captain TattyBoJangles Care to talk? 17:06, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Sorry if I'm butting in, but can't you use the console to make any quest items (ink container) turn into regular items? It's not like it's screwing up the game or something. SuSpence95 (Talk) 17:11, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Actually I dont know if thats possible. I havent even tried, since some Ink Container, House: Pre-War Theme and Deathclaw Control Scrambler doesnt bug me at all. I dont mind them been in my inventory. Youtube1smaller.jpeg CryonBrion (Talk) 17:28, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
MEh,to me a few pound sof weight means something since i only carry the perforator, lincolns repeater, paulsons revolver and wear the wanderers leather armor. Captain TattyBoJangles Care to talk? 17:31, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Oh, well I'm just OCD like that I guess, probably why I only carry Lincoln's Repeater and Stabhappy, then an Enclave Officer's hat, Dirty Chinese jumpsuit and sunglasses. Heck, I even sold my theme so I wouldn't have it in my inventory, and Charon's contract is killing me. SuSpence95 (Talk) 17:33, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Also, did you mod your Repeater? It seems you always get good percentages in VATS and you always get criticals. SuSpence95 (Talk) 17:37, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

No, I dont mod. I dont even have the GECK yet, since I simply dont have time to learn to use it. After Im done with basic videos (by the end of this year I hope) I will get it and start modding. At the moment I have only one mod, and thats the Dance Mod / The Groovatron. Youtube1smaller.jpeg CryonBrion (Talk) 17:42, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Like i mentioned, the Fallout Eleventy wikia is a good place to prepare for the joys of modding,i suggest you take a look. Captain TattyBoJangles Care to talk? 17:43, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Awesome, thanks Orcidea for letting me know. I sort of half-expected you to have a complicated Inventory. xD. And of course you don't mod your repeater, it just kicks ass, especially with the following perks;

- Commando
- Finesse
- Bloody Mess
- Action Girl
- Black Widow
- Grim Reaper's Sprint
- Sniper
- Concentrated Fire
- Better Criticals
- And I suppose Robotics Expert and Silent Running

Oh don't forget people to have 100 Small Guns and take a bit of Psycho and Yao Guai Meat to take out something larger than your average enemy. And use those goddamn sneak attacks ;). Hazadragon 10:34, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Dude just seen your latest video, I'm so glad you brought this up it is one of my favourite games ever. I have to get it on Xbox 360. I was literally talking about buying the other day. That was some kick ass pursuit. I had it on the PS2 before it broke and the longest pursuit of mine was a feeble 9:51 xD. Please feel free to add viddeos of your favourite cars, (nice fuckin lamborghini dude), and once again thanks. Btw can u possibly tell me your starting character build(SPECIAL) and maybe some of the notable perks.Hazadragon 11:07, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

Re: Dream Crusher

Why did you choose the Dream Crusher perk over survival expert? Sorry another question :P.Hazadragon 13:17, September 2, 2009 (UTC)

Because I think that reduced critical hit% for enemies is more important than those some plus effects that Survival Expert has. Since u can max ur skills anyway, only good effects that u get from Survival Expert at best: 6% extra rad and poison resistance with 15 more HP, +6% more DR or +3% better critical chance. In the long run, I find 50% lower critical chance for enemies to hit u much better. Youtube1smaller.jpeg CryonBrion (Talk) 03:25, September 3, 2009 (UTC)
Actually it does seem worth it, especially when fighting overlords. Not to mention I now know a CryonBrion video when i see one. ;D --Master of cheeZ 18:11, September 3, 2009 (UTC)

Fighting overlords with no dream ccrusher perk is like fighting maccy man with no fire-proof vest. But then again, who needs Dream Crusher when i have a bigger gun?

I'd like to say that the talk page for the firelance is really getting out of hand. Seeing as you make such great videos, I'm going to ask you to make a video tutorial on forcing the Firelance event at a location of your choosing (Any place is fine but Anchorage War Memorial is good). I know you have a video for the Firelance already, but it only showed getting the Firelance, rather than giving directions (Which most people need). keep in mind I'm only asking. Not to mention that the video you posted was moved to the talk page and is now archived (Most of those who need to know how to get this gun are too stupid to go that deep).--Master of cheeZ 23:25, September 3, 2009 (UTC)

Some missing base Ids...

Thanks for reminding me of the issue, I'll add it to my to-do list. I know the pages for generic NPCs often lack the IDs and/or are otherwise in a less-than-stellar condition. I assume you mostly run into it for the base game? For the add-ons, I've made sure the every generic NPC has also an own article which also has the IDs.

In terms of what you can do until we/I get around to improving the pages, you can direct them to User:Mirar/Chars. It's a raw table of every last NPC in the base game (including the generic ones) which also has the IDs. It's sort of our master list for the individual NPC pages. -- Porter21 (talk) 08:40, September 25, 2009 (UTC)
