Conduct

I am writing to address persistent edit warring with other users. Three days ago Dyre issued a warning for this behavior, which happened again yesterday on the state article. This follows three warnings and one ban in the last few months regarding reverts on articles without leaving edit summaries and/or neglecting to move to appropriate dispute resolution, such as reaching out via article talk or user talk page. In keeping with administration policy recommendations, I am issuing a ban to you with a duration of one week.

I want very much to assume good faith but I am struggling to wave these away each time as errant mistakes, it is a consistent pattern of behavior. The wiki is a community effort built on collaboration and these policies are integral to enhancing our communication and facilitating productive improvements to our content. In order for this to be successful, everyone must abide by them equally.

When you return, I am more than willing to sit down and chat through everything, get on the same page, help in any way I can. I know Dyre would also be open to that if you prefer. In any case, we are all here for the same reason, and I am confident and optimistic about us working together to find a solid way to navigate any future challenges. -kdarrow Pickman heart take her for a spin! 23:34, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

Re: Do not revert as first instinct

Hello,

Thanks for reaching out to me. For future interactions, I think it would be beneficial if you would indicate which article you are talking about, lest I have to guess which one you mean. I take it that you mean the Daisy Whitman article.

I see two references added, as opposed to several you indicated, one of which is appropriate ("Arcade1"). The second source ("ArcadeHappenings") doesn't support the claim that you added. They are also incorrectly ordered, source 5 listing before source 3. It is important that you are mindful of these details, which are intentionally maintained by other editors.

As for the link, I am aware of its contents. If you have any legitimate issues with how I moderate content on this wiki, feel free to start a forum about it for discussion. I suggest that instead of linking users to an external document for guidance, you yourself could just start leading by example, instead of taking part in reoccurring edit wars or editing in a manner that requires others to clean up after you. Especially since you are a sysop.

I'd like to close with the old proverb:

It's not what you say, but how you say it.

Here is to hoping we can avoid future misunderstandings. Have a great day and happy editing. –FindabairMini-JSPnP LogoThe benefit of the doubt is often doubtful. 20:38, 10 July 2021 (UTC)

Fan art

I am going to go ahead and delete that patch image. I have already added the information to behind the scenes, since it is real world information. The image was created by a user from the Vault using images from wikipedia, which is against our image policy. I think it is interesting and cool, don't get me wrong, but we must follow our guidelines. Feel free to add wiki links to that table if you would like, I was going to but had other things to tend to. Thank you for your help! -Pickman heart kateaminer take her for a spin! 22:08, 11 July 2021 (UTC)

I think a calendar of updates is a little different than an entire graphic created by a user. My concern is that graphics like these are being referenced elsewhere, but we don't know if these mean the same thing in the Fallout world. So even if it stayed on the wiki, it would need to remain in behind the scenes on account of being real world information to begin with. And certainly not referenced elsewhere. For example, previously on the World War II article, a reference was taken from that image that mentioned the China Burma India Theater based on the patch. Yet the patch is from the real world, and we don't know if it mirrors in the Fallout world.
This is the problem I think, that it results in passing off real world information as game information, which is disingenuous and a disservice to readers. I want our users to be able to trust that information within our articles is within our scope as a video game wiki, and that references actually support what is claimed. It is tough because some information is identical to our world, and some completely opposite, and a lot sort of blurred in between. This is why am so dedicated to verifying each reference to ensure we are adhering to policy, ultimately so we are not inadvertently spreading misinformation. I hope that shines a little bit of light on my thoughts. You know how much I love real world information, it is the reason I came to the wiki after all, to share all the fun Mojave tidbits. All in all I am not trying to be unreasonable or stubborn, it is just really important to me. -Pickman heart kateaminer take her for a spin! 02:09, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for taking the time to write me back with your thoughts. I let it roll around in my head for a while and I think you are on to something. I will try and look at it a little bit more like you mentioned and see how that goes. I think I just needed an additional perspective, so I appreciate it :) -Pickman heart kateaminer take her for a spin! 23:57, 12 July 2021 (UTC)

Subpage bug and Action Boy

Hello,

I saw that you moved the Action Boy/Action Girls articles around, and I'm very displeased by it, for the following reasons:

  1. Having only the male variant is misleading, when clearly this was my attempt to the perks for both genders under one roof. I discussed this before splitting with multiple people on the Discord, and since it was already in the same format here, I decided to roll with it.
  2. Related to the previous question, I honestly don't know what you meant with "subpage bug" in your edit summaries, as using the subpage as a main, albeit best to be avoided where possible, works flawlessly for me. So please let me know what is up with that, thank you.
  3. Any reason as to why you move Fallout RPG articles to Fallout 2d20? This is just inaccurate, as "2d20" is simply Modiphius' in-house game system, which applies to multiple other of their table top games, where as the game itself is advertised as Fallout Tabletop Roleplaying Game. So if anything, we should probably stick with "Fallout TTRPG" as abbreviation for things, as Modiphius does it. Otherwise, we would have to change stuff all over again, if they were to publish a second game based on the same game system in the future.

I'm awaiting your reply to resolve this issue quickly, as there are many more perks to be split. Have a great day and happy editing. –FindabairMini-JSPnP LogoThe benefit of the doubt is often doubtful. 17:08, 26 July 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for getting back to me, that really helped to clarify it. I will leave it as is for now, maybe I'll split them into AB and AG in the future.
As for 2d20, you still see me opposed to its use, as it only refers to their game system. But whatever, it's niche, so I don't really care a whole lot about it anyway. Just wanted to bring it up, pointing out that I might not be the best choice in the long run. Cheerio! –FindabairMini-JSPnP LogoThe benefit of the doubt is often doubtful. 17:55, 26 July 2021 (UTC)

Conduct, third offense

Several users reached out to me, requesting that I review edit histories of two articles, 12.7mm pistol and Olympia Avery, stating their concerns of multiple reversions constituting a breach of edit war policy on both, and administrative conduct policy on the latter, defined by placing an administrative lock on a article when personally involved in an edit war. After reviewing the page history as well as associated talk pages and protection logs, I agree with this assessment.

Both edit histories show your involvement in repetitive revisions, lacking attempts at consensus beforehand via article talk or user talk pages. The administrative lock on Avery article was done a few minutes after your second revert of a revert. The administrative conduct policy states that, "If an administrator is involved in an editing dispute, they should not use admin abilities or status to solve it. Ask another user or admin to mediate." There was no attempt to seek a neutral admin to mediate, nor reaching out to the user via talk or article talk page beforehand. Your participation in the talk page took place several hours after you had already edit warred and locked, ruling out lines being crossed.

This unwillingness to communicate with other users before engaging in edit wars is a pattern of behavior, one without abatement. Reviewing previous warnings and blocks, (first warning, second warning, first block, second block) and I haven chosen to block for one month per the policy's prescribed duration tiers. I hope that you will reach out after this time to engage in mediation, I would like to see open dialogue so all can be on the same page expectation wise. I am also going to leave your talk page open as a sign of good faith. Pickman heart kdarrow take her for a spin! 10:51, 7 August 2021 (UTC)

I understand the convenience piece, I just personally don't use private messages/Discord to discuss official wiki matters. I am happy to address any concerns you have here, just let me know. I think there is a way you can click "watch this page" and then elect in your preferences to get notifications. Pickman heart kdarrow take her for a spin! 20:04, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
Well, my piece is the same. From my understanding and confirmation from the last time this happened, an edit wars only occurs when 3 reverts are reached, any less is considered not an edit war. This is basically the standard on Wikipedia's editing policy which we also link to on our user conduct page. However, all these "edit wars" only happen on 1RR, which is basically means that undoing a revert is not allowed. If this has been the case the entire time and I have been misinformed and the our editing policy and user guidelines should reflect as such.
Also I haven't received consistent notifications since the merger, I am suppose to get email notifications for my talk page but don't which is why I wanted to use discord. Just expect this conversation to go slowly and be patient. Devastating DaveZIP ZAP RAP 01:08, 11 August 2021 (UTC)

Forum response

The signatories of the motion of no confidence against you have petitioned for a temporary lift of your current ban so that you may provide a rebuttal before the voting period commences, as outlined in the administration conduct policy. Affording this opportunity is obviously necessary, and I will do so now. That being said, please familiarize yourself with the following section of the review policy that outlines the intended accommodation:

The bureaucrat may temporarily lift wiki bans at their discretion to allow for the user to argue their own case. The user, however, is expected not to edit any other pages other than their own talk page and the discussion page itself; any messages should relate to their own hearing only. Any breach of this may result in the discussion immediately being closed (and resolved in the negative) at the bureaucrat's discretion.

As a sign of good faith, I am choosing not to extend the ban duration to compensate, the end date will remain the same as originally stated, September 7, 2021 05:48 UTC. I will reinstate as soon as the rebuttal has been made on the forum or the time allowing for such ends at August 14, 2021 00:26 UTC, whichever comes first. After this time, your talk page will continue to remain open to facilitate relevant communication. If you need clarification of any kind, please let me know and myself or other administrators can assist. -Pickman heart kdarrow take her for a spin! 20:22, 11 August 2021 (UTC)

Ban for Insulting Others

Had someone reach out about insults you left for others on your user page. Found what they were talking about:

...came back around 2019, ousted by some histrionics and sycophants, but I still enjoy editing despite the large amount of crazies a video game wiki somehow attracts.

There are better ways to express the sentiment than insulting other users or teasing folks about mental health. Following the normal ban escalation, your previous ban was one month, and now this ban will be a perma. In a year's time you will be eligible for an appeal. I'm leaving a message on my talk page in an attempt to reach out and have my permanent ban reviewed. I recently saw that Laat was unbanned after his actions were reviewed through a rights abuse review and would like the same for my most recent ban and possibly prior bans. Shouldn't really revert changes like that without talking first. Can be considered edit warring. I'll leave to you to go ahead and change them back so they're ready for J's viewing (so I'm not edit warring : )

- AngelaStuff2 (talk) 03:01, 17 November 2023 (UTC)

edit: Sorry, didn't realize your history with edit warring, hopefully not sensitive subject, I meant no ill intent. Here's what the current icons look like. As you can see the old icons that you reverted back to are almost invisible on the page. Black letters with a transparent background on a black page is invisible. Red on black is almost invisible. That's why J and I are working together to come up with better icons, and to be inclusive for those with vision disabilities.

DLC Icons Screenshot

- AngelaStuff2 (talk) 03:39, 17 November 2023 (UTC)

I reverted the DM DLC icon back to the one with the white background and black border, the transparant one isn't visible at all in dark mode as you can see. If you can come up with a better solution let us know, I'm happy with the current one now though. The Lonesome Road icon is questionable too, maybe you can take a look at that as well. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 16:24, 17 November 2023 (UTC)
I understand the two new icons are not transparent, also OWB icon is/was already not transparent and it's fine, HH can stay transparent IMO it's fine. Question ... why do you want it to be transparent ? What advantage does transparency gain ? I've added the icon to each of the images pages under 'Summary' so we don't have to keep going to other pages to see them on a live page. They are so teensy that I don't see the point, at least on my screen the height is the width of the lead in a pencil and the width is 2/3 the width of the pencil eraser, so the icons are maybe about the size of one cooked grain of rice. I feel like I'm missing something here on the reasoning.
Since you're a graphic designer, could you make a new icon for Lonesome Road, if you don't like the one I made ? The one for Couriers Stash File:Gametitle-FNV CS.png is a good example as the letters are black outlined which makes it show on white pages, and on black pages the outline doesn't show but the white letters do. There's nowhere that I've found anywhere online with RED letters for LR like we have here on the wiki, so if you could do a transparent one with the original font and original yellow letters with the letters outlined in black, that would be great ! For Dead Money, I uploaded three versions ... one NON-transparent black letters on white background, one black letters on transparent with a 2 pixel white border around it (looks the same as one we had when using white pages but the white border makes it show up on black pages, could be decreased to 1 pixel border), and one non-transparent black letters on beige background cropped straight from game artwork (that was the one I liked best, but am fine with any of the 3). - AngelaStuff2 (talk) 13:34, 19 November 2023 (UTC)
If you have time to work on it, it would be greatly appreciated. Ages ago I used to work in desktop publishing, but sadly I don't have the software on this laptop that I had on the old one to be able to do great photo manipulation, only what comes standard. And outlining letters in Microsoft Paint is painful at best LOL. I was gonna try building the LR icon from scratch but the font doesn't appear to be one that I have on this laptop, it's mostly the R and the O that are wrong on the fonts I have (esp.the left serif on the bottom of the R right downstroke, most fonts R's only have the serif to the right). I think it might be Fell Type Roman, do you have that one, or one of the other Fell fonts - IM Fell Great Primer Roma is very close ? The website whatisfont suggested both of those when auto-matching.
These icons I made, I did just as you suggested and pulled 'higher' rez pics (higher than the end result haha) to work on before I shrunk to icon size ... DM original beige art and the beige icon. But J picked/reverted to DM with white background and black border instead of the one from the artwork (beige background) out of the 3 that I uploaded. For ease of opening/comparing, here is the original transparent icon, and the one I made transparent with 2-pixel white border (2 pixel needs to be 1 pixel IMO). Or for easy comparison, the link to the page which shows all of the ones I uploaded at once ... File:Gametitle-FNV DM.png (scroll down to file history).
And, here's LR original and the icon and link to the LR page File:Gametitle-FNV_LR.png. Really appreciate your interest and input in this little project, Thanks ! - AngelaStuff2 (talk) 18:28, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
New icons look really fantastic! If I had one suggestion it would be that the DM one was shrunk to 40 pixels height instead of 45, only because the other icons are all 40 (one is 39 I think but don't remember which). Great job, I love them and also they are actually legible even at the size of a grain of rice on my screen haha. J has given two thumbs up as well and didn't mention the size so I think it's fine. Thank you so much!!! - AngelaStuff2 (talk) 22:46, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
