baby vandalist

this is an IP adres of an anonimus editer who vandalised the Temple of the Union page.

Wesleyeye 10:09, March 21, 2010 (UTC)

Maybe we should create a section for IP addresses that have vandalised, but not been banned or are returning from a ban for vandalism so users can cross reference this and maybe the ban length can be increased for multiple offenders?--Vault4 10:14, March 21, 2010 (UTC)

I have seen the messages regarding quotes. This would be a good idea, what is on the Liberty Prime I mean. I will hapilly change the NPC pages. I would, however, require a list of the pages and the desired quote.--Vault4 10:12, March 21, 2010 (UTC) P.S Check out my Quest project and tell me your thoughts

I have created a page for Vault 87 Super Mutants quotes. Vault4 10:22, March 21, 2010 (UTC) I couldn't find the tab
Thanks. Also, could you look at Vault 87 Super Mutant Quotes and tell me why the image is not working and tell me what I did wrong, for future reference?--Vault4 10:39, March 21, 2010 (UTC) Cheers.
How many pages does a category link need to turn from red to blue?

Sorry to bother you again, but I created another quotes page. Would you have a look and see how I can get the picture the same as the other quotes page?--Vault4 11:14, March 21, 2010 (UTC) I did this to show the level of continuaty quotes pages should have if it goes ahead, also I think it is a loss to just forget the Liberty Prime quotes

Cheers.--Vault4 12:24, March 21, 2010 (UTC)

Quote template

Yeah, I'd noticed that, and had checked the template to see what information it handles/processes. In it's current form, it does not offer a linking capability without being modified or a new one made.

I had thought that it might take the form of a quotes page, with references grouped either by faction or location, but probably not per character. Further discussion is probably wise to get a consensus view, but at least we have an example that can be compared and analysed before a decision is made (such as has happened with other NPC project ideas).

Happy to see how things turn out on this one, but at least we have a few options on the table for dealing with the quotes issue :) See ya for now   phoenix  txt  xp  11:21, March 21, 2010 (UTC)

Nice! I'd forgotten the template gave a linkable reference in the cite/source zone. Good work! Now you can get to bed :)   phoenix  txt  xp  11:34, March 21, 2010 (UTC)

This something along the lines of what you had in mind?? Sample quote box   phoenix  txt  xp  05:07, March 22, 2010 (UTC)

The reason is that I stripped out all the dynamic content to focus on the formatting and style until something had been found to be suitable. I can re-merge the dynamic aspects to enable a link as per the the Vault 87 page. In its current form, this would mean a blue (or purple) link on a green background. Either we would need to have the link on a white background, or change the link color.   phoenix  txt  xp  05:41, March 22, 2010 (UTC)

Check your page now :)   phoenix  txt  xp  05:46, March 22, 2010 (UTC)
Fixed!!   phoenix  txt  xp  06:09, March 22, 2010 (UTC)
Yep. If there's any other tweaks you think would be beneficial, let me know, but I think it's looking pretty good now. If it is decided to handle the quotes in the manner discussed, we could probably add this template as FO3Quotes or something similar, so Fallout 1 & 2 pages aren't affected. Just have to wait for some feedback now I guess.   phoenix  txt  xp  06:23, March 22, 2010 (UTC)
No problem. Be good to see some progress on the matter of quotes regardless of the outcome.   phoenix  txt  xp  06:34, March 22, 2010 (UTC)

Bug section idea

good afternoom i was thinking bout a little chance on the bug section of all the NPC's, Quests etcetra,

wouldnt it be more organised if it gets split up in 4 sections

All platforms, Xbox 360 , PS3 and the last section PC

and only use the sections on a vertain page if the certain pltform has actual bugs so we wont get the empty sections like with the new infoboxes with underneath relasted quests which actually rarely or even never get used.

Question and request for assistance

I am working on a few other wikis and I am having issues with simple cheesy stuff like creating tables and infoboxes. Porter referred me to help sections but it's all greek to me. I haven't really studied coding before. It's all new to me. Thanks for any help you can provide me. --Kingclyde 05:39, March 22, 2010 (UTC)

That's what I've been trying, with little sucess. I am in the same boat as you. All hardware, troubleshooting and OS stuff. Coding is for droids. --Kingclyde 06:31, March 22, 2010 (UTC)

Surprisingly, no. That does look like a useful reference though. I know the first pair of "numbers" represent the red component, the second green, and the third blue - 000000 is black, ffffff is white, and everything else is in between with varying shades of the 3 component colors. From doing a few webpages over the years, I've sort of got used to ballpark figures for certain colors. There are some useful programs on the net that will allow you to "pick" colors from webpages using an eyedropper or similar and give you an exact hexadecimal code to use. Unfortunately in these circumstances I didn't end up doing something so simple, but instead took a screenshot, used Paint (lol) to get the RGB component values in decimal (ie out of 255) for the top banner, then multiplied by 16 and worked out a rough equivalent in hexadecimal. Those colors can be tweaked easily enough if needed.   phoenix  txt  xp  07:55, March 22, 2010 (UTC)

Very interesting, so with traffic lights, you would see the red and the green but they would look alike?   phoenix  txt  xp  08:10, March 22, 2010 (UTC)

Why were my changes to the You Gotta Shoot 'Em in the Head quest reverted?

Goth, hi,

I noticed that you reverted my changes to the You Gotta Shoot 'Em in the Head quest. There was a serious error in there whereby the walkthrough stated that you need the Warhead Storage Key from Tara's corpse (the so-called 'final key') in order to get through the door that leads to the T-51b Power Armor. In fact, it is Dave's Special Key that gets you through that door. The Warhead Storage Key just gets you into another part of the Bomb Storage facility where the nuclear warheads are kept (which it appears has not been documented yet, due to the existing error in the walkthrough).

Granted, I only signed up for wikia yesterday, but rest assured I'm a very experienced walkthrough writer with some of the most popular RPG guides on the web to my credit since 1999 or so. My two previous Fallout guides are even up on No Mutants Allowed (I'm Steve Metzler).

So... if there were no factual or formatting errors in the edits I made yesterday, could I please ask why they were reverted before talking it over with me first?

Thanks in advance,

Your progress

Firstly, I'd noticed your efforts in the Sandbox and I have to say I'm impressed at how you've picked up on editing the template, so well done! Secondly, I saw your comments and what you were trying to do and it got me thinking as well, so something more subtle.   phoenix  txt  xp  19:06, March 22, 2010 (UTC)

Private messaging on a wiki?

When viewing a user's user or talk page, there's a link called "Email this user" in the toolbox (the gray box below the navigation sidebar). Basically it's [[Special:EmailUser/<username>]], e.g. Special:EmailUser/Porter21. It seems the link only appears/works for users which explicitly allow emails being sent to them via Special:Preferences. Other than that, private messaging is not possible on wikis as far as I know.

Apologies for not having replied to your other messages yet; there's quite a backlog of forum threads, talk pages and messages for me to catch up on - could take a little while ;) -- Porter21 (talk) 20:14, March 22, 2010 (UTC)

I unersand what you said about the signatures. thanks for the warning. my computer is being slow so i click it multiple time

Image width

There is probably something that could be done in Javascript, although I am unsure whether the wikia supports that, and is unfortunately out of my depth. Mostly when a background or banner image is wanted that will span the page regardless of the display resolution, a special banner image (very wide - 2000+ px) is created, a single image is repeated across a page, or one is placed left/right/center within a table containing a merge background color and a transition effect is applied to the image end(s) so it blends in.

Sort of a horizontal equivalent to what I've done here:

A very secret message here :P :D
Hi Gothemasticator!

phoenix  txt  xp  06:55, March 23, 2010 (UTC)

Shouldn't cause any problems other than taking a bit longer for the page to load, but as it would only be about 100k and it's a jpg rather than a png it would still be snappy. Just keep it left aligned, and any overflow would go off the side for people on low-res displays rather than blocking any menus. P.S I'd noticed your Batman efforts lol Good work!   phoenix  txt  xp  07:45, March 23, 2010 (UTC)

Sounds good. A graphics program that does nice gradient transitions will ensure it looks great. I look forward to seeing what you come up with :)   phoenix  txt  Mini-FO3 Logo2.png 11:23, March 24, 2010 (UTC)

Batman is bound to the page, while the rest is bound to the text zone. Now I know why you were putting the {{clear}} tag in. I'll have a play around to see if I can come up with something.   phoenix  txt  xp  08:11, March 23, 2010 (UTC)

hey great new possible page layout

An couple of days ago Nitpicker helped me great also he re-organised the page of Benjamin Montgomery as sample of how it looks much better and organized, what do you think of this layout looks much better right? in my opinion its useless the have an Main Article section with in short the quest told becasue thise uses an lot of space also if people wanna know about the quest they can go the the quest page itself. I really like this way way better looks so more organized then how the other pages look at this moment so again nitty did Benjamin Montgomery page as sample wanna hear your opinion and if you dont understand some of what i typed above here(which happens more than you would think) im happpy to hear it. Immature Fallout 3 and/or Fallout 1 & 2 Hate

I know as some user's have their rights to dislike Fallout 3, but after reading around a few talk pages, forums and others, I have noticed a disgusting amount of people trashing Fallout 3 or Fallout 1 and 2. I think something must be done to keep users from trashing any games. It is only the spawning of a whole load of much more trash talk. Nukey (Tok) (User blog:AreYouGoingToEatThatNuke?|Blag)

I disagree with some of your merge tags - e.g. Vault Text Messaging Reader (with the list of messages it's big enough to warrant its own article) or Magnetic Tape Drive (Fallout's retrofuturistic technology items should have articles of their own, even if they are also added to the world objects table). Ausir(talk) 14:01, March 24, 2010 (UTC)

Well, merging the Vault careers into GOAT makes sense, as this is the primary reference. As for some of the Vault pages (upper level, stairs etc), I was quite surprised how many pages you had to make changes to after deleting them. Not an easy job, as in most cases it's not just copy and paste, but you have to make a subjective analysis of the material and decide on how to format and include it in another.

Yeah some progress on the Enclave appearances and locations page - still need to think some more on how the tables can be refined, as I don't think they need level information when there is so much variability involved, so am considering ways to change it to a simpler list of equipment and troops.

Catch up with you again sometime (since I see you're heading off to bed). :)   phoenix  txt  Mini-FO3 Logo2.png 14:36, March 24, 2010 (UTC)

Dynamically resizing of images?

There's no way for that on wikis as far as I'm aware. HTML and CSS support specifying percentage widths and heights for images, but wiki-style [[File:]] links do not. Unlike other tags, HTML image syntax (i.e. <img> tags) is not parsed by the wiki software when added to a page, which rules out using HTML or CSS. There is a somewhat of a workaround by using CSS to apply a background image to a div or table with percentage width, but that either cuts the image off (for low widths), results in image-less spaces (for high widths) or stretches the image to page width. Plus as far as I know, CSS for background images only works when inserted into the site's central stylesheets; adding it directly to pages or templates didn't work last time I tried. -- Porter21 (talk) 19:21, March 24, 2010 (UTC)

Haha Jagged Alliance!

Lol, jagged alliance is hard, you bet. I have it installed was gonna play it after playing fallout tactics (my first fallout experience, I got devirginized ;D) but I liked fallout tactics so much I decided to go look for other fallout games and installed them all. If I ever get tired of the fallout series I'll try playing jag. lol not likely...

btw, thanks for that tip on my talk page

Deletion - forum

Hey I moved all the stuff you said would be better in a forum to the forums, also why did you mark vault coridor and window deletion, I thought you would of just deleted them. - RASICTalk 23:04, March 24, 2010 (UTC)

I did the forum move as that what was recommended, as for the the catagories MFD, I decided to leave them alone due to the amout of pages that link and obvisioly I would rather wait more on a higher admin for something with that many links. Anyway thanks for the answer, and it was no problem doing the article to forum move. - RASICTalk 23:41, March 24, 2010 (UTC)

Enclave encounters

With the scripted events, what article did you have in mind? Fallout 3 random encounters, or something else?   phoenix  txt  Mini-FO3 Logo2.png 06:13, March 25, 2010 (UTC)

I understood what you were meaning with regard to the Main units section, and it looks like a good idea. However for the Scripted Events section, I'm still at a loss as to which article(s) would be linked to, that provide more in-depth information regarding the events, hence my reference to the random encounters page (Vertibird insertions). Are you suggesting the bottom section could be summarised, and spun off onto its own page, or something else?   phoenix  txt  Mini-FO3 Logo2.png 07:27, March 25, 2010 (UTC)
I'm very happy to leave the bottom section alone for the time being, and look at it again at a later date to determine just how many are Random Encounters (Vertibird insertions), as these are repeatable and have an extensive list of possible locations. You're more than welcome to add those links to the top section - it might be a while before I get there :)
So what mods do you use in your game?   phoenix  txt  Mini-FO3 Logo2.png 07:59, March 25, 2010 (UTC)

How ironic - I'd been looking at that mod, and checked out that video not long ago. :) It really looks like it adds an extra dimension to the gameplay. Makes changes to the way stimpaks work, makes VATS into a slowmo, and adjusts the weapons, all in all allowing for a much improved freeplay mode. Now that's one way to turn DC into a real battlezone lol.   phoenix  txt  Mini-FO3 Logo2.png 08:34, March 25, 2010 (UTC)

Very well.

My apoligies but I firmly believe that my addition to the Protectron page is a valid one.

I have no problem with the change of the section's title from "Trivia" to "Behind the Scenes" but I do firmly believe that my case is a simple, valid and understandable, if I may, I would prefer to present argument to you for your opinion and judgement insted.

I'm sure you would be far more open on the matter.

Thank you

I've read The Vault's policy on use of the talk page and again I apoligise and also promise not to re-offend.

I have a proposition to make a compremise:

  • Have the information in question moved to the Supply Plant article, added to the "backstory" section or a newly made one (such as "Workers hostility")
  • Have some of the information cut or edited and state that it is implyed or surrgested in the terminal's located throughout the Supply Plant.
  • Have the entire concept of the information changed entirely to fit in as part of the backstory in the Supply Plant.

What fustrates me is that I have noticed very simular situations where other articles have used "speculation" with words such as "seemingly", "it could also be assumed" and "implyed", what escapes my comprehenssion is that while these phrases not only qualify as speculation but give no definitve awnser to the subject can remain on the aricules, am I missing somthing or is there a double-standard that I am unaware of?

I'll do all those thing and try to make up with Nitpicker.

Some serious convergence

Goth, hi,

You know... all those RPGs you have listed as your favourites... well, I have some of the most notorious guides and reviews on the web up for all of them, with the exception of Vampire: The Masquerade, which I have never played (though I might now do so, since you seem to like all the other games that I do :-) My real world moniker is Steve Metzler. I was an editor for the adventure/RPG section of Games Domain Review (look it up on the Wayback Machine, circa 1998. *5000 reviews* before Yahoo Games took us over and ditched it all. That's a lot), and then I wrote for Quandary, but they went bye-bye a few years ago as well, so now I have all their reviews and walkthroughs archived at metzomagic.com. I'm a professional programmer too. All that I write is from scratch in Notepad/UltraEdit.

Planescape: Torment is my fav game of all time, followed closely by all three Fallouts (Per Jorner's absolutely excellent Fallout guides were inspired by my original guides), and Arcanum. If you want me to contribute to any Wikia guides, just give me a shout. I didn't just play those games, I lived in them.

Best regards,

metzomagic (a.k.a. Steve Metzler)

Thanks for fixing my user page Gothemasticator. Tezzla Cannon 19:14, April 9, 2010 (UTC)

Information merge?

I have noticed that on several Fallout 3 NPC articles, the writing that used to be in the "Interactions with the player character" section is now merged into the "Background" section. Is that just because now the {{Interactions FO3}} template is now pretty much dictating the interactions section? Sorry if this sounds a bit confusing, I am rather tired at the moment. Ghouly89 (Talk) 08:15, April 20, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for clearing that up. I thought it sounded better short and sweet as well, and now I know. :) Ghouly89 (Talk) 08:19, April 20, 2010 (UTC)
Oh sorry, that's not the question I'm asking. As an example, Billy (The Pitt) has substantial information in the "Background" section that would normally correlate to the "Interactions" section. Has the information just been temporarily placed there as the new template is instituted? -- Ghouly89 (Talk) 08:23, April 20, 2010 (UTC)

Editing discussions.

Okay, discussions, are not for discussing the points on main entry. I get that. So what exactly are they for?

I always thought they were created for points and counterpoints, and that eventually the Admins sorted through and deleted the nonsense.

Sorry I will refrain from posting here. I've tried to make my posts helpful and informative, no offense intended. 11:08, April 20, 2010 (UTC)blib

Thanks for the encouragement :)

I wouldn't mind becoming an admin, and now that I've got you and Porter behind me I might actually apply. My only concern is, that we might have too many admins, with two new requests posted recently. So I think I'll wait a bit before posting my request, at least until Ghouly's adminship is finalized.

Thanks again :) --Anon (Talk) 14:11, April 20, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the explanation, although I'm not sure such infobox guidelines are useful. It would be convenient to see all of the character's relations and places of residence at first glance, that's what the infoboxes are for in the first place, right? ;)

About the Vault Dweller, I am curious about that dialogue you mentioned where his gender was determined. I don't remember comming across one, but if one really exists, this info should be added to his article for clarification. Or, maybe, it could be interpreted as a sporadic mistake by the developers as it seems they have always been striving not to mention the Vault Dweller's sex, for example:

NPC project

Hi Goth - I'm pleased to note that you're still alive :P I'll have a closer look at some of the project pages over the next few days and give you some thoughts on how we could proceed.

Initially in response to your points;

  • With regard to the interactions section, I do agree that the table has been useful and has seen good take up by editors. Unfortunately with the textual interactions sections, there has been a lot of confusion about what information should go where. While it does offer a lot of scope for arranging aspects of interactions with highly involved NPCs, and the example pages display good use of what can be achieved with it, unfortunately many characters have generally limited interactions, leaving the sections largely redundant without repeating the same minimal information.
  • As to quotes, yes we want flavor, but we don't particularly want or need an encyclopaedic reference in each of the NPC articles. To proceed with a notable quotes section could encourage a more restrained approach to quotes sections, perhaps with some accompanying editorial advice, and wouldn't be difficult to implement with a bot.

As to what role I play in this, I will also give it some thought, as up until now I seem to have been working in with the project in an informal peripheral manner - but you already know that. :)   phoenix  txt  Mini-FO3 Logo2.png 12:40, April 25, 2010 (UTC)

Hello. I am the owner of the IP adress, which you banned yesterday for "Inserting nonsense/gibberish into pages: returning vandal".

I have ABSOLUTELY NO idea how this happened. To my knowledge, I have only EVER made edits on d&d wiki, and although I frequent this site, I have never used my computer to edit, let alone VANDALIZE Fallout wiki.

I am sorry to have caused have you (and the wiki) any inconvenience, but I honestly have no recollection of desecrating Fallout wiki.

If there is some way you could be more specific on the subject of what I did to insert gibberish, that would be GREATLY appreciated.

Special:Contributions/ You might share an IP address (probably because of dynamic IP addresses) with someone else. But the page linked to shows clear vandalism. The ban is temporary.--Gothemasticator 15:30, April 26, 2010 (UTC)

Thank you.

"They" grammar stuff

Really? I'm sorry if I just messed up the whole article, then. It does sound better, but I had learned in my english structure class a few years ago that 'they' is always plural. Well, that's good then, I won't have to change them anymore :) Thanks for telling me. Metalspork talk  contribs 23:56, April 26, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, okay. I'll merge them now. Tezzla Cannon 08:06, April 27, 2010 (UTC)

Instead of merging them into one page, i've decided to make one page for each type of music, and have the whole set of that music type on the article. Such as the Fallout 3 Exploring music, i've have now put all the exploring music on there, instead of having seperate articles, and all the short music, such as Fallout 3- exit the Vault music, has now been merged with the article, Fallout 3 short music, with all the short musics in the game. I thought this would be a good idea. Tezzla Cannon 08:55, April 27, 2010 (UTC)

I have got all the musics down now.Tezzla Cannon 09:53, April 27, 2010 (UTC)

Just wondering about deletion

Hi there, I noticed that several people had either wanted to or had issues with trying to reset The Wasteland Survival guide, which is why I added it. I'm just wondering why you deleted it.

Although, most people do not know how to reset that quest in specific. And I'm sure XBox gamers will realise it's for the PC when they notice they don't have a keyboard ;)

I know very well the talk pages aren't forums (the reason you gave for deleting my Dogmeat post). I was stating some information and seeing if anyone else had anything to go along with the story of the original dogmeat's death. It is a reference that isn't explored and was only wondering if there was a connection to that area of the game. Seeing nothing else on it, I posted in TALK for DISCUSSION. Milo, Shipping Foreman

Don't you think this is an inappropriate name for a character article? I believe it should be moved to Milo. Ghouly89 (Talk) 23:26, April 28, 2010 (UTC)

Burst activity

Sorry to hear you've also caught the "burst activity" virus like me - hope I didn't infect you :P -- Porter21 (talk) 08:31, April 29, 2010 (UTC)

butch talk page

i will call retarded people retards, no matter what you say.

"EPIC HALP"as topic and stating simply wrong facts on butch is dumb. if you had read the other posts you would have noticed that other people were far more insulting.

stop undoing my talk page edits. "epic halp" is no appropriate topic for a wiki. "Wrong. Butch is better."in a discussion isn't fit either. I have no idea what your problem is, did you have a bad day? My edits were perfectly fine, redo them.

I still gots it?

I sure do, buddy.

We should add a little Invisi-note to that thing. Spoon Say Hi! 21:40, April 30, 2010 (UTC)
