If you have a problem...

... with me changing something from '...death' to '...completion of quest' - do not spend your idle time threatening me on my Talk Page and/or reverting the entire list of edits. Send me a message in private if its a minor edit or fix the one error yourself. Respect goes a long way. Learn that you are not the only person making changes to a Wiki and grow up. But from now on, please stay off my Talk Page. If you have a problem - send me a message. The talk page is not an appropriate place to 'berate' someone over a minor edit. I'll keep my hopes high for you. Maybe you should ask Deadlykris about a PC tech job? Nitty Tok. 03:15, September 3, 2010 (UTC)

Inactive no longer!

My daily routine has settled into something more or less routine. So, I'm finding I have time to visit the site once or twice a day. This is good news for me. I like it here. So, I will put myself back on the active list.

Now, back to work on those NPC pages!

Cheers.--Gothemasticator 01:10, September 14, 2010 (UTC)

Ranger Compound edits

I see you deleted the bits about how to get on the roof. FWIW, the first description was already there -- I just copied it into a different layout but given that I tried (for about 12 hours of game play) to get onto the roof using 5mm ammo boxes and it just never really worked, I figured a different solution would enhance the article.

I'm not convinced, though, that totally removing the descriptions serves the article or the site visitors all that well. I know that my reaction to reading what is there now would be something like "ok, how?" and after screwing around for a while, it would quickly turn to frustration that whomever posted that was being somewhat elitist, like there was a special club for people who reached the 4th floor. If your set on removing them from the article (even the pre-existing one) then perhaps posting them on the discussion page with a link in the main article like: "To find out how it's done, visit the talk page" would be a possible solution that serves both purposes.

The other point being that the list of locations for Seward Square points people to the Ranger Compound page and implies they can find out how there. Arisian 19:28, September 15, 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for pointing out the editing guidelines but I was already quite familiar with them and I must say, after going back and reading what is covered in the policies & guidelines, I failed to find specific mention of posting strategies. Perhaps I missed the page but even the wiki search didn't come up with the relevant information.
With all due respect to your position and right to an opinion, I am in complete disagreement in this matter for several reasons, specifically:
  1. I failed to find specific mention of not posting strategies in articles, although I don't particularly think this applies in this situation, as what was posted doesn't qualify as a strategy, in my opinion.
  2. If strategies are forbidden on articles by policy then I respectfully submit that most of the quest related articles and a fair number of the map location & NPC articles are in violation of that policy since they all provide what can fairly be qualified as strategies in accomplishing the quests, subquests and dealing with the various NPCs & challenges encountered in the game. If those aren't considered strategies (which I don't happen to think they all are but that's another issue) then they are more in the vein of howto descriptions, which I believe is exactly what you removed from the Ranger page -- getting onto the roof is not strictly a "strategy". I would consider a "strategy" to be more about defeating an enemy or a specific plan to be victorious in a battle situation . What was posted was a straight forward howto list of steps to accomplish a non combative objective -- climbing on the roof.
  3. The other administrators of the site have not felt the need to remove the "howto" about 5mm boxes which has sat in public in the article for well over 7 months (I was using the description in March or earlier this year, I'm not checking the history for an exact timeframe). 99% of what I did to that particulary howto was fix language issues and format it into the list I chose to use, otherwise it was verbatim what I found there.
Again, with all due respect, I'm going to ask Nitpicker to have a look at the situation and I'll abide by his (or whatever group of admins gets involved) decision and close the matter one way or the other. Arisian 00:02, September 18, 2010 (UTC)

Hopefully what I've now done will meet with everyone's approval. Arisian 02:10, September 18, 2010 (UTC)

I won't belabour the point further but I really wasn't referring to strategies that were missed by other admins and senior editors. I am more than fully aware of what is involved in running a large and/or popular website and the havoc that can result from ad lib editing. If you knew who I was, you'd know I've dealt with that a whole lot but that's also another issue. It's my opinion that a fair portion of what is posted on the quest pages actually qualifies as strategy on game play, it's not nearly as dryly factual as it seems is preferred for the site.
FWIW, my point was not intended as a criticism of the editorial work being done (I'm certainly not about to do that), rather more about the fine lines of what qualifies as strategy versus walking a player though a set of steps to accomplish a goal -- in some respects I see the 4th floor thing as a sort of unmarked mini quest that the developers left there for us to solve in the same manner as any other quest in the game.
In any case, I think what I just did will fit within your criteria and I'm moving on to bigger and better things. Arisian 02:26, September 18, 2010 (UTC)

Indeed, my focus has been slightly too shifty around the Fallout community for the last few months. NMA, Mutants Rising, the Modding Wiki, and general Fallout 2 modding have been very time-consuming, much more than I would have imagined. However, once upon yesterday I reminiced about old times at the Vault, and decided to devote some attention to it once again. In short terms, "me like teh vault, want come back!" ;)
How has real life been treating you for the last month / decade / how long have you been gone again? :P - Ghouly89 (Talk) 03:41, September 26, 2010 (UTC)
If the man in your channel's videos is indeed you, then congrats on playing acoustic guitar! I'm learning right now, slowly but surely. But back on topic, I'm glad you've found a stable place in life once again. The Vault will surely benefit from your return to watching over FO3 pages like a starved vulture. :D - Ghouly89 (Talk) 03:59, September 26, 2010 (UTC)

The poll

It wasn't directed at Grizzly. It was directed at all the other people who do it as well. Yes, i agree with free speech, but as Jasper said, we'd have to allow racism, sexism, stereotyping, and other stuff this wiki hates. I'm not saying we have a complete lockdown of people having an opinion, i'm just saying we should have a policy for saying it just to make a flame war and screwing up RC. The policy i suggested was to not say it in a way to start a flame war, or do it in news blogs completely unrelated to any other game, which has happened many times before. As for Grizzly, i might be wrong, but it really does seem like he is trolling. It's all i've seen here come on to do. He just replies to a comment immediately and says something bad about it, which he has done like 600 times. A lot of the time these comments of his start flame wars: Here's one example: User blog:WorstUsernameEver/Meet the Fallout : New Vegas companions!, page 2, he replied to a harmless comment about dogmeat and started another flame war: page 3 on the blog, he started a flame war which took up nearly the whole page about a harmless comment about Dogmeat again. This is simply, trolling. I'm not saying we sould have a lockdown of people having an opinion, but we should put rules in place about this thing. Tezzla CannonUser Tezzla Dog.jpg 10:17, September 26, 2010 (UTC)

A kid in Rivet City

I think the reference to the Andale victim with a kid in Rivet City should remain on James Hargave's page. It's most likely a reference rather than random dialogue. Occam's razor and all. --Kris User Hola.jpg 17:26, September 26, 2010 (UTC)

While I agree with what you've said, and it would be a random comment if there were no single-parent children in Rivet City, the fact that James is there, and fatherless, seems to be a compelling reason to believe that his father is the victim in question, rather than a random comment and father lost randomly in the wasteland. They maybe unrelated, but it's far more likely that they're related. --Kris User Hola.jpg 17:35, September 26, 2010 (UTC)

I agree. I'm sure he says his father got killed not just he died. Ofcourse it's not hard to get killed in the Capital Wasteland, and other people say it could be Ted Strayer. But it all seems much too conicental.JaspertheViking :D? 17:41, September 26, 2010 (UTC)

You do have a point about it being the main theme of the game. I guess additional corroboration is necessary, and is unlikely to be found unless someone asks a Fallout 3 developer :D --Kris User Hola.jpg 17:53, September 26, 2010 (UTC)

Okay, but we should still have rules for this though. If you see page 3, a flame war started and the whole page was crammed up with the whole argument. That's one reason we should have rules for it. Tezzla CannonUser Tezzla Dog.jpg 17:36, September 26, 2010 (UTC)

I hate to dissagree with ya, but, although it dosn't fit the right in to trolling/flame war its craming the whole page, and its not exactly "civil and pretty reasonable", just some guy who can't exept that the makers of the game know more about what is a sequal than he does. He's perfectly entitaled to his opion but he's not doing anything with what he's saying, it just seems he's saying "I know I'm wrong but I'm just gunna caryy on because I don't want to admit it."JaspertheViking :D? 17:55, September 26, 2010 (UTC)

Actually, I see people who can't accept that "what the current owner of the franchise considers a sequel" is not necessarily the only possible meaning of the word "sequel". Ausir(talk) 19:02, September 26, 2010 (UTC)

I agree with Jasper, i'm not trying to be rude, but he is just being very annoying commenting non-stop about it. There is a rule on the vault IRC for not repeating yourself loads of times. I think we should have it here. Tbh, no offense, but he sounds like a whining little kid. I don't like Fallout 3 this, i don't like Fallout 3 that, "Yes, we know you don't like FO3 Mikael, what do you want, a party?". Tezzla CannonUser Tezzla Dog.jpg 18:19, September 26, 2010 (UTC)

I know it's not flaming or trolling. That's why we need to talk about it, because it doesn't fit in to either it cant be punished as either, however, I feel something needs to be done. If all he wants to say is that Fallout 3 wasn't his favorite thats fine, but he started a huge argument about it. If his argument had been educated it would be fine, but he was baisically saying that, Bethsda, who own Fallout, wernt allowed to say waht was and wasn't a sequal, he can say he doesn't reconsise it as one, thats his opion, but going on about how Bethsda are wrong and if they'd had said Fallout is pink ponies we'd agree with them. And seeing as he started th ewhole thing of just because of an innocent post about Dogmeat, someone really needs to think about this.JaspertheViking :D? 18:34, September 26, 2010 (UTC)

I don't see him saying anywhere that Bethesda "are not allowed" to do anything. Just because they're the owner of the franchise doesn't mean he can't disagree with their interpretation of the word. Ausir(talk) 19:02, September 26, 2010 (UTC)

"Bethesda's claim that Fallout 3 is a sequel as fact and completely ignore actual facts: it has little to do with previous titles in the series and completely ignores their storylines", "Bethesda's claim that, in fact, it is one, fails to compute. In short, it's false. Fo3 is not a sequel." or, my personal favorite "You're completely ignoring facts and accept Bethesda's bullshit as fact." He just said, three times, that, dispite Bethesda said it's a sequal they are wrong.Edit: Sorry, don't want to miss this one "Bethesda doesn't get a say in the matter."JaspertheViking :D? 19:09, September 26, 2010 (UTC)

I'd like to point out here that Jasper and Tezzla are engaging in pretty much exactly the same kind of behavior Grizzly engages in: repeating claims despite disagreement from others, strongly defending their point of view, doing their best to use sourced material and logic to back up their claims... Guys, if you want to remain free to say what you want, you're going to have to leave Grizzly free to say what he wants.--Gothemasticator 21:36, September 26, 2010 (UTC)

If you notice, I refused at any time to consider, even in jest, even metaphorically, sabotaging or performing any other act of real or virtual violence. I tried to deflect the issue, I tried to point out it's metaphorical pointlessness, and when those efforts failed I simply dropped the subject. I don't appreciate the nasty little note on my talk page about it. --Kris User Hola.jpg 02:47, September 29, 2010 (UTC)

A Brief Summary of the Meeting

We first discussed the topic of the skin, and I think it was decided not to focus on that because of the dawning release of New Vegas.

Next, we talked about how we will handle the waves of vandals. Raven said that we should handle it as we always do. Pretty much, there wasn't much significance to the meeting. Nukey (talk) 21:28, October 12, 2010 (UTC)

Blades vs blunts.

You do realize that axes are classified in real life as blunts, yes? Blunts do most damage through blunt trauma. An axe is not a cutting tool, it's a bashing tool. Just because the wedge's leading edge is sharp does not make it a blade. YuriKaslov-M1911 small.jpg Yuri Kaslov

I'm off to cut down a tree, with my axe 'nough said!JaspertheViking :D? 22:25, October 16, 2010 (UTC)

The phrase "cutting down" is a misnomer; the proper term is "fell". And as I know (I took a course in ballistics), axes don't cut, they break, they crush, they smash, but they do not cut. By definition, that makes them a blunt weapon, not a blade. YuriKaslov-M1911 small.jpg Yuri Kaslov 22:29, October 16, 2010 (UTC)

Well, I haven't made up my mind yet - but currently I certainly do not feel like contributing to a Wikia-run wiki, and especially not like trying to patch up yet another Wikia-created mess. On the other hand, I feel sorry for you guys because you now have to deal with the skin woes in addition to the FNV release - guess I'll have to see which of these feelings proves to be stronger in the end. Snowglobes - Citizen Kane reference?

I've been wanting to add this as a Behind the Scenes section on the House page, and have discussed this with Nitty who then asked me to get in touch with you re trivia stuff.

Just for the snowglobes in FNV, I wanted to put in that it references Citizen Kane, and also possibly that the character of Charles Foster Kane in the film and his similarities to House - who could well be a Howard Hughes/Kane hybrid.

Coupled with the fact that he pays you for snowglobes, and with snowglobes being a key visual image in the film, I think there's enough there to warrant inclusion. What do you reckon?

Cheers --Willooi 04:39, October 21, 2010 (UTC)

Wanting to communicate.

Dear Gothemasticator, I would like to discuss the grounds on which you blocked me, but I can't not due to the fact that YOU BLOCKED ME (currently at a different computer). I am sure this is an unintended consequence of the blocking process. Now, seeing as you probably have an auto blocking system in order that immediately blocks people when they write things such as "Penis penis penis penis penis ass", you did not notice that the user page I left that on had himself vandalized the page Vault 34 by changing things to penis, such as "penis Launcher", and I was just trying to have a little fun by doing the same to him. So please, unblock me so I may fix the many grammatical and spelling errors I have found made by anonymous users who have not graduated High School. Saphireking65 21:10, October 21, 2010 (UTC)

I changed it from 'death' to 'completion of quest' which is technically correct anyways. I also fixed multiple spelling mistakes and repaired improper sentences. Not that it matters - you just reverted everything without reading it.

As you have undone the work and clearly threatened me - I will be leaving the Wiki and making no furthur edits. This should significantly improve your day as its clear you have no intention of either:

A) Welcoming a new user to a Wiki B) Treating anyone with respect C) Realizing you do not need to be correct on every page

I wonder how many of your 6k+ in edits are just you complaining about everyone else. Enjoy, I'm deleting all my edits and abandoning ship. I don't have time for your threats when I'm obviously well intentioned. Enjoy 'your' Wiki.

State Requirements: Weapons

I’ve been adding the stat (strength) requirements to the FONV weapons characteristics because, just like the included ammo requirements, it’s some basic need to know info about the item. Also, since its reintroduction to the series, many players, especially those who have only played FO3, still don’t even know that there even are strength requirements. Before I got the game, I read up about a lot of the guns and never noticed it myself.

Yeah, it's been awhile

I took a break since all of the FO3 stuff seemed to be taken care of. But now that NV is out, I'll be back on more. I'm in my first playthrough as we speak. --Kingclyde 02:45, October 31, 2010 (UTC)

I'm rectifying the issue which I created as we speak, don't do it for me I can do this!AryeonosWhat!? 20:01, October 31, 2010 (UTC)

Well, my internet is moving at inverse light speed, but I'd like to be in-charge of this project. I'll get back to mass archiving latter tonight. AryeonosWhat!? 20:34, October 31, 2010 (UTC)

While your lecturing is of course appreciated...

...it's my civic duty to actively discourage demonstrations of blatantly irrational and/or trolling behavior. Having said this I feel my "tone" and "grammar" was clearly appropriate. Vryheid 21:17, October 31, 2010 (UTC)

Sounds like we have quite a conundrum then. Leaving a response isn't allowed, doing nothing just encourages them even more. I suppose the only effective way of responding to these people is wiping the comments off of talk pages. No "insults" involved, and it gets the job done. Sound reasonable?

What is the policy regarding guides?

Money Making Guide

Figured as much, was going to move the content to there page and mark for deletion. But you beat me to it =P

How did you know it was me (NuckMyFuts)? And, can I get the other edits transferred to my new account?

I always used The Vault for Fallout 3 and found it incredibly helpful and informative (all the pages were pretty well written because I got FO3 well after it came out.) Now that I have Fallout: New Vegas im finding pages that are incomplete and I started wondering, hey I bet I could help out with that. I just never realized how easy it was!

P.S. Is there a way I can send you a Private Message? Because it apears as though I am posting this to your Profile Page. Like a Facebook Wall.

Thanks, I Hope This Name Is Acceptable 03:40, November 1, 2010 (UTC) ~Nuck (Is it okay to sign my message this way?)

Ok, so I'll ask

Why are you repeatedly removing my edit re: a possibly quest-related pip-boy bug, latest here:

This isn't a "one-off" event AFAIAC, it happened in a specific quest but might not be specific to that quest, and it related to the pipboy, so I added it to "pip-boy" section. Have you experienced this bug? If so, why remove my report? If you haven't, but I have, then presumably other people have also. So why remove it?

L3mst0r 23:32, November 1, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply. The only way I know how to repeat the bug would be to play the mission again. I've not done that, I play for fun, you know? But if the game doesn't work as it should, if it exhibits incorrect behaviour (e.g. the pip-boy is invisble when loaded) then that's a bug, right?

L3mst0r 23:55, November 1, 2010 (UTC)

Once again, thanks for your detailed and considerate reply. I believe I understand where you are coming from now.

Notable Loot help page

Are magazines considered notable loot in New Vegas? I noticed later the list is under "Fallout 3" heading, so fair enough removing Magazines. Do we need a notable loot help page for New Vegas? I'm getting annoyed with people putting miscellaneous guns, ammo, and chems into Notable Loot sections on NV pages. I want to direct people to the Notable loot help page when I remove them, but it doesn't include Magazines which I think are valid notable loot for NV. JonCollins 02:43, November 2, 2010 (UTC)

Don't shoot the messenger

I don't know anything about any of the three songs, I was just doing what the forum suggested. :/ Nitty Tok. 16:12, November 2, 2010 (UTC)

Buddy Holly

Sure, but it isn't one of the super amazing transparent .pngs that we like. Nitty Tok. 16:20, November 2, 2010 (UTC)

I'm of the opinion that the strategy information was immensely useful. I just read it today and learned quite a bit. Isn't there a compromise like having a Caravan (strategy) article? Sheltim 21:09, November 2, 2010 (UTC)

I guess I'm not clear on why strategy doesn't belong on in the article space. After all, we have walkthroughs, which are similar, and even some anecdotes like "This gun can be more powerful than the Fat Man" (Terrible Shotgun#Characteristics). Other articles have "strategies on how best to use this perk" (Grim Reaper's Sprint#Notes). Why is Caravan different? Sheltim 21:23, November 2, 2010 (UTC)

Debate for Advanced power armor Mk II

Please see the debate I've started. Thanks my friend =). Itachou [~talk~] 22:11, November 2, 2010 (UTC)

Guass Rifle

It isnt named Guass becuase of a forums user. Its named Gauss because of the way it works wikipedia:Gauss_(unit). Gauss rifles are featured in several games. I noticed the problem on Fallout:_New_Vegas_cultural_references in the Something Awful section

Fallout 3 bugs

I made a minor edit on the Fallout 3 bugs page (un-capitalized the title headings) and noticed in the history section that my edit jumped the page's byte amount from about 19 000 bytes to 75 000 bytes. Is this due to the new look of the Fallout Wikia? KingArmery 20:34, November 3, 2010 (UTC)

Yes, you are right, and that mystake of mine is slightly embarrassing. Thanks for the help, though! KingArmery 21:53, November 5, 2010 (UTC)

Vault 11 Milgram discussion

I'm not familiar with the correct procedure, but I've posted a response to your message regarding the Vault 11 article in the Talk Page associated with this IP.

Faction Project?

Hey, I've started a forum discussion on the subject of rewriting and standardizing our faction articles. Would you like to participate? http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/fallout/images/0/08/Personal_Sig_Image.gif Tagaziel (call!) 13:00, November 4, 2010 (UTC)

Hey, sorry about the elder thing, I was pissed off that day... And there's a funny story to the Max thing too, I actually didn't see the page already made, and I made a new one with more info than the current one, so I just deleted the old one, but now that I think of it, it would have made more sense to copy and paste my info to the page. Oh and by the way, those stupid edits of the Remnant's Power Armor were my friend. Asshole found out my password. Oh well. Conradboy4 20:58, November 4, 2010 (UTC)

I see that you became a bureaucrat recently and wanted to congratulate you. You definitely deserve it...despite making me have to create this long and ridiculous name lol. --Mycatisorange 12:03, November 6, 2010 (UTC)

Well thats true but like I said you do totally deserve it, being an awesome admin. P.S. My cat says hi. --Mycatisorange 12:22, November 6, 2010 (UTC)
