From The Vault - Fallout Wiki
Jump to: navigation, search

You seem to put a lot of hatred behind your words. Anyways, as an Administrator at Nukapedia, I would like to make it quite clear that in no way do we plagiarize, and the wikis we associate ourselves with that are a part of Wikia have every right to make their affiliation with us known and viewable. I'm also going to make it clear that in no way will I tolerate any kind of harassment and/or attempts at bullying other wikis into joining Curse. I'm going to take this chance to address a few of your point:

  • "I noticed that the Fallout fan fiction wiki associated with The Vault has not been moved away from Wikia."
    • That's because every wiki and their community has a right to do as they wish. Just because Ausir moved to the Curse variant doesn't mean that everyone else has to pack up their bags and follow suit.
  • "I have also noticed that they seem to be actively displaying a large link to Wikia's Nukapedia on their main page, Nukapedia being Wikia's greedy pseudo plagiarized attempt to steal users away from us by maintaing a mirror of the old Vault."
    • This is basic slander being made from an ignorant stand-view. Content on both the Wikia and Curse variant are completely legitimate and were built from the ground up by the communities that frequent both variants. Neither of our groups are wholly plagiarizing from the other, and you sir are an idiot if you believe other-wise.
  • "We could also use our same falloutwiki.com domain name with it. I can go ahead and set it up if you'd be interested. All I'd really need here is for the link to the fanon wiki on the main page to be changed to the new one since they're apparently stabbing us in the back."
    • This is not up to you. This needs to be discussed with the community present at that wiki, and you have no right to even believe that you are self-important enough to steal the content there. And this idea coming from the guy who accused us at Nukapedia as plagiarizing. I'm going to be keeping an eye on you over this one.
  • "There's also a need to move the wiki away from Wikia, since their skin is hard to use, hard to read, hard to navigate, and they've apparently decided to sellout the wiki background as advertising space, meaning that every user sees meaningless kitsch on every page of the wiki, which just degrades it's content."
    • Once again, this is not up to you, but up to the community. Just because you don't like Wikia personally doesn't mean you get to slander it and essentially try and make back-room deals with the leadership here at the Curse variant. If you want to get into touch with me, I am the Administrator GarouxBloodline at Nukapedia. That is all. -Leon 107.3.234.39 03:48, 8 April 2012 (UTC)

I realized that I was harsh before, however, that does not give you the right to make personal attacks. Furthermore, it does not give you the right to make threats and act in an intimidating manor. I would also like to let you know that I changed my post at the Admin's talk page. Inquisitor Sasha Ehrenstein aus Sturmkrieg Sektor (Contributions) (Edit Count) 07:29, 8 April 2012 (UTC)
I would like to point out that I absolutely agree that moving is a community decision. I will respect whatever this community decides, and I hope that you would do the same. Inquisitor Sasha Ehrenstein aus Sturmkrieg Sektor (Contributions) (Edit Count) 07:44, 8 April 2012 (UTC)
I'm also sorry about using harsh terminology, which I have removed, before. Inquisitor Sasha Ehrenstein aus Sturmkrieg Sektor (Contributions) (Edit Count) 07:46, 8 April 2012 (UTC)
Aside from calling you an idiot, I said nothing that could be implied as a personal attack. And as for calling you an idiot, I said so with good reason after what you had stated. (There is also the fact that you had already slandered our wiki and the editors within it.) As for you revising your original message, while I'm grateful you did so, you still bring up a lot of concerns with me and I'm sure the others at Nukapedia. Especially with me since I've witnessed you trying to make backroom deals once before at the WWII wiki. All I'm asking is for you to think more carefully when expressing your opinions and views and for you to take the communities involved into account as well, not just your own. Every wiki works hard to bring a name for themselves, and you have to remember that it is not up to one person to decide which direction they're going to take when changes are being made. It's always a complicated process, hence why there is now The Vault and Nukapedia. 107.3.234.39 08:08, 8 April 2012 (UTC)
Thank you. The potential move of the WWII wiki was not completed, and I respected the decision of the other administrators. I also would appreciate it if moves were not called back door deals since as you mentioned, it is the decision of the community, and my only reason for suggesting it is to help the community. If a wiki wants to move, fine, and if it doesn't that's also fine. I was only suggesting to The Vault that they might be interested in moving their other projects. As I suspected, the Tranquility Lane admins kept the link to the old Nukapedia because they didn't want to upset Wikia; when I saw that, I had a flashback, and I realize that my behavior was not the best. Tranquility Lane - the Fallout fanfiction wiki[edit source]

The reason the Tranquility Lane wiki (as with many other wikis hosted on Wikia) was not ported over is because that choice needs to be made by the community of the respective community. Basically if no one is willing to move over along with the wiki, there isn't much point in moving it as it would then remain dead. If the community decide they want to move the wiki over to Curse, or even part of it decides they want to fork, then I am more than sure that Curse would be willing to host it (same as with the Wasteland wiki). I would probably suggest that it be brought up for discussion over in the forums of Tranquility Lane before forking the wiki. In such a case that some or all decide they want to move over, just drop Ausir a message to look into porting it over. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 13:41, 8 April 2012 (UTC)

I noticed the above conversation, and while GarouxBloodline was a bit brash in expressing themselves and there view. If you move past that, the points raised are valid. So I wouldn't take it to personally when someone gets emotionally involved in a topic of discussion, it tends to drive the discussion away from the points in question and into an ad hominem debate. One thing I will expand on that you expressed in you last post, there is no need to fear Wikia in regards to which projects Tranquility Lane decide to be associated with. It is very much the same here, Curse don't like links out to Wikia, yet we maintain the language links to the Wikia language alternatives, plus other projects like Tranquility Lane etc. There is nothing stopping the community supporting one or the other, or even both projects, such as Fallout Answers has. One thing they do need to do, is update the logo for the link to Nukapedia - as it states Nukapedia, but shows The Vaults logo which can be confusing. Projects[edit source]

There is plenty to do around here, just take a look at the active projects. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 02:39, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

Starting a Fallout fanon wiki here[edit source]

Well, depends on what help exactly you're asking for and where the wiki ends up being hosted. I'm not much of a fanon guy myself and I don't have that much time to spare, but if the wiki ends up being hosted as a subdomain of The Vault I'd at least be willing to help with CSS and JavaScript problems should you run into any. Guardian can probably handle the initial skin setup (he did so for the Wasteland Wiki as well), otherwise it's mostly the gadgets and MediaWiki:Common.js/MediaWiki:Vector.js which would need to be copied. I can look over it once you're done.

As far as the DPL forum is concerned, feel free to ask. -- Porter21 (talk) 07:42, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

Well, most of the design is contained in {{Forumheader}}, {{Forumlist}} and MediaWiki:Common.css ("FORUMS" section). {{Forumheader}} contains some Vault-specific stuff (the game icons, to be precise) but if you delete that (i.e. the whole #switch statement) it should work on pretty much any MediaWiki-based wiki with DPLforum. Not sure what other advice I could give you :) -- Porter21 (talk) 21:58, 21 May 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. That should be fine. I'm looking to make the DPL forum I have the same in the way that it has the author underneath the title, like a dedicated forum. Sternkreuz.png Inquisitor Sasha Ehrenstein aus dem Sturmkrieg Sector (Contributions) (Edit Count) 00:39, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, sorry, I'll take care of it after the E3. It's been pretty busy here lately. Ausir 21:58, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
Sorry for the delay, but it's been a pretty busy month so far. I'll try to get it set up ASAP. Ausir 20:34, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

Again, sorry for it taking so long. June was really a frantic month for us. You can find the wiki here: http://fanon.falloutwiki.com Will need some work still, but at least it's set up. Ausir 23:08, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Fanon[edit source]

Okay, so what needs doing? Personally, I'd start by importing (with his permission) Porter's CSS and JS scripts. What do you think? -- GOTW User | Talk 21:50, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
I think that's where we should start, to get the appearance to be similar. I've asked Ausir for sysop and bureaucrat access so that I can start importing the system message content. I'll also give you the same status. As soon as I get the permissions/usergroups, that's what I plan to do.
I also recommend (I'll ask Ausir about the name change) setting the name of it to Tranquility Lane and informing the old Wikia variant that we've relocated the fanon wiki and to request Wikia to change the name, as was done when the main Vault wiki moved. We can't do that, and that's not really the full story. When we moved, the Wikia legal team tried to force Nukapedia to remain as the Vault too, along with keeping Ausir's logo, but the community there resisted and changed their name and logo. We can't just go over there and demand they change their name because we are taking it; I don't think it's fair, they haven't agreed and furthermore we haven't moved their wiki, we've started a new one. So let's look at it like that, it's new and we can make it our own. -- GOTW User | Talk 10:31, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
That just added to the list of things that Wikia has done... I guess we won't be insisting on any name changes unless we hear from them that they want to move. I think we should also come up with a name other than just Fallout Fanon Wiki, the same way we have The Vault here. I'm thinking about having a section for it be for discussing and demonstrating mods to go with fan fiction, since stories and characters can actually be created in-game. That said, it should probably be for fluffy, canon friendly mods and not anything game breaking or not canon-friendly. I've seen way too many cool looking mods, only their benefits were far too over powered, or they didn't fit in the game. Yeah, I agree about adding some mods, but I think we should exclude super-ficial ones (so armours and weapons) and maybe cover those that provide characters or stories like you said. And to be honest, I think it'll be easy to come up with a better name and design than Tranquility Lane. -- GOTW User | Talk 19:24, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

The Fallout fanon wiki[edit source]

I've asked Ausir for sysop rights - once I get them, I'll help you guys with the skin and some basic stuff like the forums and main page. -- Porter21 (talk) 07:07, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

Alright, I'm pretty much done with the basic stuff - I'm sure you can take it from here. Forums should work properly, as should gadgets, site scripts and skin as well as some basic templates. Also set up basic versions of main page and community portal.
What I didn't do (as you'll likely notice when looking at falloutfanonwiki:Special:WantedFiles) is uploading all the icons referenced by Template:Abb and Template:Icon. I'm not sure which of these you'll need, so I'll leave sorting that out up to you. -- Porter21 (talk) 10:45, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

Account creation should work fine now. Just tested it and it's OK for me. Ausir 22:20, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

Not quite, I'm afraid. I'm still getting the same message login error when I try. (3rd time since your post)--Ant2242 00:27, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

Did it ever cross your mind that maybe when I'm not logged in, it's because I'm not home at the moment and that I don't feel comfortable logging into any of my accounts off of other people's computers? You already know my original IP, anyways, as it's already on your TP back when I couldn't log into my account here until Porter helped me with the password issues. So how about you stop trying to threaten me because I'm the only one with enough sense to call you out on your BS? Oh, and editing as an anonymous user is not sockpuppetry. If you're going to accuse me of something, do it right. 67.187.96.246 10:11, 19 January 2013 (UTC)

If you don't feel comfortable, you can always log out when you're done. The warning was only a warning of what it might be interpreted as by other people; I don't really care that much. Your old IP is also completely different, another reason why it can be considered sockpuppetry or a method to hide one's contribution history. Your are correct that anonymous editing is not sockpuppetry, but using it when you have an account comes across as a bit odd. There's a reason why Wikipedia lists it that way. Well, my issue is that after doing something for long enough, the chance to slip up increases, so I'd rather not take the chance of making a mistake and leaving my accounts up, which are my responsibility. 96.63.68.4 19:24, 19 January 2013 (UTC)
Wait... I created a list over why Wikia is better? That doesn't sound like me, and I don't re-call such a thing. Is there any chance you can link the list to me? I'd be surprising even myself if I did indeed do such a thing. GarouxBloodline 02:18, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
It wasn't by you. It was sth that Wikia did. Sternkreuz.png ఠ_ఠ Inquisitor Sasha Ehrenstein des Ordo Scharzenkommando (Contr) (Edits) Contact: Fanon - SK (de) - MW.org 02:57, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
