Welcome to the Vault!

Welcome to our Fallout wiki, and thank you for your contributions! There's a lot to do around here, so I hope you'll stay with us and make many more improvements.

Recent changes is a great first stop, because you can see what other people are editing right this minute, and where you can help.
If you haven't already, create a user page about yourself! If you do, we'll be able to know you better as a member of our community.
Questions? You can ask in the Forum or on the "discussion" page associated with each article, or post a message on my talk page!
Need help? The Help page has an outline of the site, and pages to help you learn how to edit.

I'm really happy to have you here, and look forward to working with you!

Thank you :) --Porter21 08:44, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Background character[]

I think it would make more sense to move the template just to "Background character" (dropping the FO3), since it doesn't have any FO3-specific fields (unlike the FO3 character template, which has Base ID and Ref ID). Ausir 11:28, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Freeform quests[]

Actually, looks like No Mutants Allowed has the list of freeform quests from the guide: http://nma-fallout.com/content.php?page=fo3-quest-freeform so we can just copy it from there. Ausir 04:35, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

5000[]

Congratulations, you just created the 5000th article in the wiki :). Ausir 05:11, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

Yay :) Walter will be proud. --Porter21 05:13, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

Move[]

I see you renaming a few articles; it's better to use the Move feature, then the discussion, history and everything will follow... --Mirar 08:25, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

Console-only items[]

I think it's a good idea to have pages of "hidden" console-only equipment. Maybe a single one for all the (interesting) items (and possible characters), though? There's this page too: Fallout_3_unused_items (And I try not to delete anything. I'm one of those persons that hate to see information getting lost, no matter how useless it seems at the moment. :) )

/--Mirar 19:09, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, Ausir already pointed out I wrongly "accused" you :P
I'll add the weapons to that page as well. Question being whether we simply let the weapons all have their own pages or summarize them somewhere - I'd tend towards the first, otherwise people will keep adding those pages anyway (except for when using redirects to the summary page I guess).
I think we should definitely use a summary page for the follower weapons though, seeing as a lot of them don't even function properly when added to the player and they have different characteristics compared to "normal" weapons/armors (don't degrade etc).

--Porter21 (Talk) 19:31, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

I think we should have a page summarizing all the developer-unused items, and a page for every interesting ones of them (named ones are certainly interesting; but I'm not sure about the weapons and armors without names, like Star Paladin Cross' unique Power armor with the same name and stats). If nothing else, for light speculation and collect info around just that object, and then we're already prepared if/when they are used in an expansion. :)
A page summarizing all the equipment used by followers (temporary or not) is probably also good.
/Mirar 19:44, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, also not sure about the follower equipment, it doesn't even have own names ingame (and most of the firearms don't work when you put them on the player. The unused stuff is at least player-usable and follows normal item characteristics (degrades, uses normal ammo etc). --Porter21 (Talk) 20:31, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

Unmarked quests[]

Great work with the quests! User-Mirar pawprint14Mirar (Talk) 15:26, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks :) --Porter21 (Talk) 15:28, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

Redirects[]

Please do not redirect to links that don't have articles yet, like you did with e.g. Benson house. Ausir 01:49, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

Nevermind, I see that you created them now anyway. :) Ausir 01:50, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I'll do it the other way round next time :) // Porter21 U | T | C 01:51, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

I also don't think we need a "Minefield buildings" category. The "Minefield" category is too small anyway, no need to make subcategories for it. Ausir 01:55, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

Okay, I was simply going for the same category setup like e.g. Category:Megaton has. See your point though. // Porter21 U | T | C 01:56, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
I don't think we need it in Megaton either. :) Ausir 01:57, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

Sysop[]

Hey, maybe you'd like to become a sysop? :) You're doing an excellent job here. Ausir 20:36, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

Well, sysop rights allow you to block users, delete pages and make reverting pages easier (through the "rollback" functionality). Ausir 21:01, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
Congratulations, you are now a sysop. :) Ausir 21:16, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

Tense about tenses[]

Please join the discussion here: Forum:Tense about tenses. Ausir 23:05, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome![]

Thank you for the welcome, Porter!

By the way, I see you are able to find and add item ID's. There's one missing for Anchorage stash key as well. I'm trying to update all of the keys so the pages are uniform, but I have the 360 version of the game and ID's are out of my ability to garner.

MastahMatt 02:04, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Templates[]

Good job with categorizing the templates! I wanted to do it a long time ago, but was always busy with other stuff. Ausir 12:23, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Canon boxes[]

I'd prefer those to be framed, like the article management ones. And again, excellent work on the templates! Ausir 23:48, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

BTW, I liked the previous stub picture (the Mutated toe) more than the current one. Ausir 00:50, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
Never realized that it was a mutated toe - thought it was a potatoe or something (honestly)... :-)
I tried to keep with the "VaultBoy" themed images (like the other article management templates). Couldn't find a VaultBoy image with severed limps so far though. // Porter21 U | T 01:06, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
Did you play FO2? I thought the mutated toe would be rather recognizable to those that did. :) As for Vault Boy with severed limbs, see: Image:Damage.png Ausir 01:14, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
Got me, I never played FO2 ;-) Thanks for pointing me to the image, I knew I had seen it somewhere but couldn't find it. Replaced old stub picture :-) // Porter21 U | T 01:33, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Favor[]

Hi Porter ;)

Could you show me how to add an optional line to the FO3 character template? I wanted to add lines like "favorite weapon", "damage resistance", "etc". I admit that at this point these lines would be for my own personal use with "pretend" character builds. Perhaps this would foul up the template? I don't want to add unnecessary garbage to it, maybe there's a line I could add directly to the article that the template will still display? Ash Nuke AshRandom (Talk) 15:25, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I tried the |extra= line, it didn't accomplish what I was after, not with my level of programming skill anyway (which really only amounts to copy&paste). I wanted to reorganize the list, not just add stuff to the bottom. Anyway -- I found a rather obvious solution: I'll borrow your template! Probably call it "user generated character builds" or something. And you can rest easy knowing I'm not going to make a mess out of the FO3 character template, hehehehe Ash Nuke AshRandom (Talk) 16:08, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

IE6 compatibility[]

I personally wouldn't be concerned. At least they'll have another reason to switch to a better browser or at least update to IE7. Ausir 11:54, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Navbox links[]

The v/d/e links in navboxes link to Template:Nb main instead of to the page/discussion/edition of that specific navbox. Can you fix it? Ausir 18:23, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, just noticed it as well. I'm on it :-) // Porter21 U | T 18:24, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Perk template[]

SWEET Perk template! I love the combo-box deal. Ash Nuke AshRandom (Talk) 22:46, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks :-) There's usually not much to be said about the perks in each game individually so I thought a combined template would avoid cluttering the page with multiple perk infoboxes. // Porter21 U | T 22:49, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Spoilers[]

Please see: Forum:Spoilers. What's your opinion on this subject? Ausir 23:38, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Family[]

What do you think about adding a "family" field to the character templates (proposed at Talk:Dogmeat)? Ausir 01:25, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Collapsible groups[]

I'm not a fan of the collapsible groups thing. I preferred it where I could actually see e.g. all FO2 weapons at a glance. Now if I want to see all of them, I have to click "show" on each single category. I think collapsible templates are enough, we don't really need the groups to collapse as well. Unless there's a way to add a "show all" link? Ausir 18:03, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

I would leave the groups as non-collapsed in the large ones you mentioned as well. I just don't think them taking much space is an issue when the template itself is collapsed anyway, and if I wanted to see all the New Reno influence spheres at a glance it requires lots of clicking from me. Ausir 18:22, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Its a nice idea, but, what exactly is the point of making the charts really tedious? They're all at the very bottom of the page anyway, why not leave them open? Ash Nuke AshRandom (Talk) 18:47, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

To be honest, mostly it was an attempt to remedy that with switching to the standardized navbox design some boxes blew up in size, namely the weapon boxes. Previously they had sub-subgroups which I had to replace with headers and those headers add a lot of unnecessary whitespace. Might just be me, but I don't like when I look at a page and the majority of it is taken up by navigational devices and not by the content as it is the case on some of the weapon pages.
But as I said on Ausir's talk page already, I'm reverting the changes before everybody gets out the pitchforks :-) // Porter21 U | T 18:56, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Tocright[]

Hey, I really like how a floating TOC lets text flow up past the table of contents, do you think you could help me with a tocleft template? I don't know enough code to get the spacing to work correctly. Thank you :) Ash Nuke AshRandom (Talk) 02:24, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the tip[]

--Jereth Khan 15:17, 18 January 2009 (UTC) I'm going through the notes I've created as well as a few other pages I created for locations and TOC. I'm slowly going through the information here and expannding it based on mine. As well, as can been seen with the notes, I'm trying to get pages on common things to look the same. Lot fo work lol

Thanks[]

I hope you don't mind I borrowed your template. I poked around for standard one, but couldn't find one, so I stole yours. See you around the wiki. --Nux Matrix 12:52, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Question[]

Where it says "delete user contributions" on the anon contributions page, is this just a way of rolling the list of contributions back so a new anon with the same IP doesn't take credit for them? I ask because I'm looking for a way to roll back all of 62.171.198.6's vandalism at once, some of it has been glossed over, and I know there are and will be others who have a full page of junk to track down. I can't really make sense out of how a roll-back of edits would work exactly, especially for older edits, I mean, what would it change, and how could it tell the difference between the old and the new. Seems like there would be a lot of potential for disastrous reversals even if something did work like I'd want it to... I suppose something like that would work fine if it only hit the top edits... Meh, forget I asked, I realize the function I'm asking for would be impossible and therefore couldn't exist. Ash Nuke AshRandom (Talk) 17:09, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Hmm, don't know what that link does either. Maybe ask Ausir? I'd guess though that it'll probably just delete the list of contributions and not the contributions themselves, considering the diff system really only works if there have been no intermittent edits. So even if it worked like you hope it would, it would fix the pages nobody else has edited since at best (as you already figured out yourself while I typed this ;-)). // Porter21 U | T 17:18, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
I think I've proven twice today that I don't think before I speak often enough... Instead of letting it hurt my EGO I'll just blame it on too much coffee :) Ash Nuke AshRandom (Talk) 17:28, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
No problem, one of those days I guess ;-) // Porter21 U | T 17:31, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

[]

Could you make a png logo out of the "V13" circle in this image: Image:Project V13.jpg for the games template? I'm not good with images myself. :) Of course, it will eventually be replaced with the official Fallout Online logo, but we could use this one for now. Ausir 23:30, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Category[]

How about a YouTube cat? I've got a ton of pages for it and the new Fallout 3 video guides page I'm making. Ash Nuke AshRandom (Talk) 13:36, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Okay did I do that right? Ash Nuke AshRandom (Talk) 14:05, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Oops![]

Okay I screwed it up now :( sorry Ash Nuke AshRandom (Talk) 14:08, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

No problem, already corrected :-) // Porter21 U | T 14:09, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Fallout 3 Books[]

About reverting my edits, if you had seen the talk page another editor brought up the same concerns you did and I had agreed to make the templates work to be all in one long table on Fallout 3 Books. I don't want to start a war, but I intend to reinstate the templates and change them in that manner. The main books page will still have one long table, but will be sourced from templates so that the book location info is only written once, and can be displayed in as many places as we wish. Sound good? --AnyLameName 15:13, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Although I don't fully get all the Wiki syntax (pretty new to this), I think I understand enough of your proposal to agree with it. Go ahead with it and we can see how it turns out and what the general consensus is.
--AnyLameName 14:33, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
Spent a bit of time reading the help for transclusion, then messed about in a sandbox for awhile, and I think I've got a good solution for Fallout 3 books. Check my talk page for the example of the aggregate page, with links to the two sandbox pages for example individual book pages, and let me know what you think. If you give the thumbs-up I can do the conversion.
--AnyLameName 19:19, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
All done on the conversion. The location subpages can be deleted now. I went to do that myself but couldn't figure out how, so either I'm blind or that's not something a normal user can do.
--AnyLameName 21:08, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Added Paradise Lost back into the table on Fallout 3 Books. The main page for Paradise Lost reports says you get it from Tulip in one sentence and Carol in the next, but the character pages seem to agree it's Tulip. I made the book's page consistent with itself, although my memory fails me with regards to getting the book so some confirmation that it is in fact Tulip would be nice.

Table Question[]

What would be the right code to make the ammo in this chart line up with the top of the cells instead of floating in the middle? Ash Nuke AshRandom (Talk) 05:01, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks Porter ;) Ash Nuke AshRandom (Talk) 13:21, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

[]

The official Operation: Anchorage logo is in this trailer: http://fallout.bethsoft.com/eng/downloads/videos.html . Can you make an icon for the games template out of it? Ausir 23:06, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

I'll download the HD version and take a look. However, 75mb might take a bit at 16kb/s, the Bethesda server seems to be slow. // Porter21 U | T 23:12, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
It's also at GameTrailers: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/44819.html?type=flv Ausir 23:19, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

US Strike Team[]

I decided to 'improve' upon the American Soldier article by moving to a new, better US Strike Team article, with the different types of soldiers and equipment, like the Chinese Soldier article. Check the article out and see if you can improve like correcting information on troop types and cost in vouchers. I also ask that if you could redirect the American soldier to US Strike Team. Thanks for your support. M10 101 15:11, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

One more thing, I will never bother you again on this article, but on American Soldiers, shouldn't T-51b units and Powered Armored Soldiers be the same? M10 101 04:35, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Operation: Anchorage locations[]

We could have both a page with a list of all O:A locations, and relevant locations listed on each quest page. Ausir 06:55, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

A new template[]

Hi Porter21 !
I would really love to have a new template for my text at the bobblehead pages. Currently the text is:
To find out the precise location, click the video link in the bottom of the main page Vault Boy bobblehead.
I think it should say at the bottom... not in the bottom :( Am i correct? I discovered this mistake of mine too late :,( I can of course fix it manually if you want me to, no problem, but just asking =) Can u help me? --Youtube1smaller CryonBrion (Talk) 18:32, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Ok, so i did it like u said. Its better that way. Thank you =) --Youtube1smaller CryonBrion (Talk) 06:09, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Weapons[]

Hello, Ausir said to ask you about the needed changes regarding weapon stats on our main Fallout 3 Weapons page. I was collecting data for Ash, who was going to make the changes. Since Ash left, I'm not really sure what to do. If you can help, I could email you the spreadsheet we were working on.Fiddlesoup 03:23, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Comander Jabsco[]

Thanks for reverting the vandalism there- I was working on it, but then about 2 or 3 other people all tried to at once- me, you and some third guy who insisted on blanking the page. It's back to normal.

thanks for the welcome...[]

i'm new to wiki editing, sorry about not removing the IMAGE tags, didn't know about that (thought just fixing the red link did that) but, thanks for pointing that out to me... i fixed the pages i did some uploading to, and i will make sure i do so in future uploads... i'm looking forward to adding more tips and notes to files that i see could use additional content...

PS and don't worry, i don't type like this on the site, i use proper grammar... this is just the way i type when chatting on forums... later!!

Artistadam 01:21, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Vandalism[]

This guy is currently vandalizing. Anything you can do? I'm just sitting on his Contribs page, refreshing periodically and then un-doing his changes, at the moment.--Niksilp 01:52, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

No problem. I was just glad an admin was online and editing pages, heh.--Niksilp 02:01, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Ten peney tower[]

"after blowing up megatown u will get to there and u get a house,if u are tring to get there and vises dogs are geting u and u dont no where it is look 4 a viulliag whith a tower neck to ti whith a guol standing nest to ti" is really priceless. Maybe we should keep it? :) How about a "best of" page? :) Ausir 21:56, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

LMAO!! XD --Youtube1smaller CryonBrion (Talk) 03:05, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
I saw this article as well. You've got to wonder at the user who made it. It's not malicious or completely devoid of information, and they were honestly trying to contribute. However, to put it politely, the article is not quite up to wikia standards. --Nux Matrix 09:10, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Perk images[]

I'm not fond of Fallout 1/2 perk images being replaced by the FO3 ones e.g. at Educated. Can't we have both? The original one above the FO1/2/T section of the infobox and the FO3 one over the FO3 section? Ausir 16:31, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Dry Sewers[]

Hi! I uploaded a map for Dry sewers, but there's a problem with the template. The CW exits don't appear and I can't manage to fix it. Please, take a look at it... thanks! GobTheGoul 19:58, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Featured articles[]

Thanks for adding missing featured article templates for the upcoming days. I'm generally trying to make them as varied as possible (not having two articles about the same game, about a character, about a weapon etc.) in a row, as well as trying not to use the same article twice, although it can be hard given that we have far more articles about FO3 than about any other game now. Oh well, once we reach June, we won't have to worry about it that much, aside from tweaking the list here and there to make it more varied. Ausir 16:22, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Re: New video embed functionality[]

Yes, thank you for ur note, but i have tried it, and didn't find it very useful after all. U can read my opinion from the Wikia "Forum:Video embed tool - new feature!" page. I just wrote it =)--Youtube1smaller CryonBrion (Talk) 11:42, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Oh, sorry. Here is the link: | Forum:Video embed tool - new feature! Youtube1smaller CryonBrion (Talk) 11:58, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Fallout 3 armor and clothing[]

Hello! Can I delete the Tinted Eyeglasses from the Eyewear table? Because they don't exist in the game, and not in the GECK editor either. I wrote about it on their talk page also, and I think their article is not necessary. I also added that note about immunity on the eyewear table. It's ok how I did it, so I can edit the Headwear too? I posted on the talk page Talk:Fallout 3 armor and clothing#Apparel condition but no one with more experience in editing haven't changed anything, so I did it myself. ;) GobTheGoul 17:54, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Town navboxes[]

I made Template:Navbox Vault 101 and Template:Navbox Megaton. I think that every major location in FO3 should have a navbox like this. Ausir 18:08, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Operation: Anchorage videos[]

Hi ! I have Op: A in 6 parts (just a fast run thru) and I would love to have someone like you to watch those videos and tell me if they are good enough to put on Fallout Wikia pages. There is much missing from those videos (Intels, glithes etc). I understand that you dont have much time, but maybe at some point? --Youtube1smaller CryonBrion (Talk) 22:57, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Great ! Here is a link for the playlist [1]

Life on Mars[]

I copied The Vault's Template:infobox to Life on Mars Wiki. It's working, but I'm not that good with styles. How do I change the style of the infobox to suit the wiki's skin?

By the way, do you use any IMs? Ausir 01:52, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

Location infoboxes[]

Just so you know, since the FO3 location infoboxes can be applied to FO1 and 2 as well anyway, if you omit some optional fields, I'm just going to move them to more neutral place, like I did with Template:settlement, and add the appearances field that defaults to Fallout 3 if not used. Ausir 19:27, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

I don't think we need two separate fields in this case, though. Unlike Harold, each location appears in two games at most. Ausir 19:43, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
OK, I guess it can be Game. Ausir 20:35, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Disambig[]

Why not make the disambig template a variation of Template:Mbox too, btw? Ausir 20:35, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

I'd make disambig an mbox but leave "for" as it is. Ausir 20:41, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
This one? http://www.duckandcover.cx/gallery/albums/userpics/10095/Areaknow.jpg Ausir 20:53, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
This one is actually for a GURPS "Area Knowledge" skill, from an early build of Fallout. I'll look for the other one. Ausir 21:03, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
Nope, can't find such image anywhere. Ausir 21:12, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Template for Perks and Traits[]

Noticed that you're looking at adding a navbox for perks and traits and I was wondering if you minded me working on that. Just trying to keep busy around here. --Turbine2k5 00:27, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks. I'm not completely familiar with wiki markup, and what I do is usually copy from something else that resembles what I need. I'll make sure to make the appropriate changes. :)Turbine2k5 (What I am... - What I hear... - What I do...) 19:59, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

Sidebar Template[]

Hey, do you know the link to the template that governs the side navbar (the one with the search box, etc.)? I'm looking to tack a page onto it... --Turbine2k5 19:11, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks. Just going to add a link to character builds. ;) Turbine2k5 (What I am... - What I hear... - What I do...) 19:29, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Glowing Ones[]

Glowing Ones are not just "Fallout 3 creatures"! they appear in every Fallout game. Ausir 14:00, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

The FO3 section was just tagged with the obsolete {{FO3}} template. And there's always the "Appearances" section. :) Ausir 14:10, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

By the way, since we cover their implementation of SPECIAL, if not anything else, should we perhaps add Gameicons for TORN and Lionheart? Ausir 14:18, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

VSS Armory[]

Oh, that wasn't there the last time I looked, before I started the article. Oh well. Kind of figures. =D

Bot requests[]

Is your bot open for task requests? :) Ausir 21:07, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

I was thinking of it adding [[Template:Games]] to the FO1 and 2 pages that don't have it, as well as adding either Template:Infobox needed or an incomplete infobox with info from the appropriate race, location and faction categories, with Template:Infobox incomplete added to the character pages. The item and location pages could use it as well. Ausir 21:20, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks! BTW, I think it's more helpful for the bot to add empty or incomplete infoboxes to fill in rather than just slap Template:Infobox needed at the top. Ausir 21:35, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
Actually, I don't think there's any harm in the image pages also having the Games template. Ausir 21:53, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
Not necessary, but not harmful either, so no need to remove it. :) Ausir 22:14, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
Something's not right - the bot is adding Games|FO1 to Fallout Tactics and Van Buren pages. I blocked the bot for now. Looks like it goes too far into the subcategories - e.g. Category:Brotherhood of Steel is in organizations categories for all games, and it includes e.g. Maxson Bunker. Ausir 22:32, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
OK, unblocked it. Best for it to ignore organization subcategories, since they tend to span more than one game. Ausir 22:40, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

No problem, I removed the wrong tags. Also, for some subcategories it's pretty safe (e.g. the subcats of FO1 items or characters). Ausir 22:51, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

Boneyard is FO1, of course. Ausir 00:34, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
Fixed, thanks for noticing. Ausir 00:44, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Sounds good, only as previously ignore the organization subcategories. Ausir 00:59, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

As for tagging the dialogue files - yeah. Dunno why they weren't categorized with their respective games. And good idea with the mbox. Maybe Smooth Talker for the mbox image? And maybe also add {{Wikify}} if they have no links aside from category? Ausir 02:14, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
Well, the wikify category was empty anyway, wasn't it? :) Ausir 18:21, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

By the way, would it be possible for the bot to fix the encoding problems with dialogue files? They were OK initially, but some of them got borked when we changed hosts a few years ago, e.g. GCFESTUS.MSG, with lots of ? characters instead of ’ and … characters. Ausir 19:59, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Actually, I think it could be fixed at least for ’ - by replacing it in all the all the ?t, ?re, ?s, ?m, ?ll, ?ve etc. common expressions with the apostrophe. Ausir 21:49, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Pitt screens[]

I'd say only take them down if Bethesda (or Game Informer) directly tells us to. Ausir 11:56, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Adding Template:Games to FOT and VB pages[]

What about adding "FOT" and "VB" to FO1 and FO2 pages that are also in FOT categories? Ausir 16:34, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

The bot is doing it again - it added Games|FO3 to Roshambo, a FOT character. Ausir 12:42, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Hmm, looks like it's the only non-FO3 page it added the FO3 tag to. Weird. Ausir 12:45, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I see that now. Both this category and Boneyard characters were mis-categorized by game widow, who is a fellow admin of mine from Witcher Wiki and who was helping me with categorization issues here. Unfortunately she did not play any of the Fallout games, so she made some mistakes here and there. Ausir 12:55, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

I reverted your change of "Midwestern Brotherhood" category to just "Brotherhood". I think it's the other Midwestern BOS characters that should be moved there, not Harold that should be moved back. 13:48, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Sharp dressed[]

Why did you undo my revision? am I missing something? - Ashran111 06:27, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Oh I had no idea! sorry about that. - Ashran111 17:47, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Adding infoboxes to FO1 and FO2 pages[]

If the bot is placing the image in the infobox, it should remove it from where it's placed originally, otherwise it's duplicated. And if it's putting the game in the "Games" parameter, why not also in "Appearances"? I'd also include the "actor" field, even if it's "none" for most characters. Ausir 20:14, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Most FO1 and 2 characters won't have a {{PAGENAME}}.jpg, and most would just have a generic character sprite as an image, so I'd just leave the infoboxes without images. Ausir 20:49, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
Why add {{Template}} to locations and not simply the location infobox? Ausir 14:18, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
By the way, I think I copied all the missing stuff from Template:settlement to Template:Infobox location. Check if I missed anything and if not, the former can be redirected to the latter. Ausir 14:34, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I think we could merge the FO3 character template with Character too, by the way, since the only difference is extra fields.
As for fields the bot should add in location infoboxes, see: Klamath. For Tactics, remove "quests". I was thinking of maybe adding another field for sub-locations (e.g. town districts)? In FO1 and 2 they are not seamless, but separate areas, and in FO3 it could be used for major places in a town as well. Ausir 15:14, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
By the way, how about adding a "factions" field to the locations template too? Ausir 15:48, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Well, I think we could add it and then delete it where it's not needed. I think e.g. for FO2 we have more articles about the larger locations than about the sections. Ausir 16:00, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
No, no need for factions in FOT. Ausir 16:21, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Can you add the "dialogue" field to all the FO1/2 character templates? I just noticed that it's missing. Ausir 22:19, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

FOT missions[]

I think we should have a separate mission infobox for FOT instead of using the quest one. Also, it should be under the "Mission walkthrough" header if there is one for a given mission. Ausir 18:08, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

I created Template:Infobox mission and used it in Brahmin Wood. Ausir 18:25, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

I suggest the following:

  1. Change "Mission Walkthrough" to "Mission walktrhough" where the section exists
  2. Add a "Mission walkthrough" section with the {{Section}} template where there is none, above the "Appearances in games" section
  3. Add Template:Infobox needed in the walkthrough section, and Template:Clear before and after the section
  4. Replace Template:Infobox needed with Template:Infobox mission

Ausir 18:44, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Use of "Mr."[]

Hi Porter, I just noticed you cleaned up the Tunnel Snake's member pages and added detail to all of them. They were grealy improved by your edits and are much easier to read, so thanks! I did notice you used "Mr." in the body of the pages in place of the character's first name. It seems overly formal, and I had to re-read certain sentences as I thought they were referring to the character's father. I was thinking of changing them, but since you followed this methodology consistently I wanted to speak with you first to get your thoughts. (Specifically I'm referring to the articles for Wally Mack, Butch DeLoria, and Paul Hannon Jr..) JazzX 23:35, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Hah, you're totally right. Man, I need to get some sleep... JazzX 15:53, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Background characters[]

Maybe we should retire Template:Background character too? Would just require adding the "mentioned in" field to the character template, I think. Ausir 20:56, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

I'd keep the mentions field separate. It can actually also be useful for characters that appear in one game but are only mentioned in another. Ausir 22:37, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

I need someone to check this[]

Hey, I was wondering if you could check whether or not the inventory on Lyons' Pride members respawns or is updated. I remember seeing someone claim that a Gatling laser can be picpocketed from Glade, and 3 days later he'll have a new one. I wanted to know if their things respawn because I specifically wanted to give these guys new armor and better weapons. --Clean Up 22:42, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks anyway. I'll check it out later myself. --Clean Up 22:58, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Re: Infoboxes[]

I wasn't aware the infoboxes were completed with my edits - both had the field "desc" in their coding, and I didn't know what that was so I left it blank. Otherwise, you're welcome. Drake Clawfang 17:04, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

Your Fallout 2 Guide[]

I found it pretty interesting, lots of stuff I already knew, and quite a few things I didn't. Whenever I play Fallout 2, I play the same type of character every time - a shotgun-toting smartalec who can talk his way out of trouble as easily as he can shoot his way out with a Combat Shotgun. Fun. :P

There are things in your guide I noticed, that I think should mention. First, this I can confirm 100%, since I just did it - you can activate the Turrets to attack Horrigan in the Enclave, and still talk to him. To do so, activate the Turrets using the terminal, and the second the dialogue screen closes, hit "A" to enter combat mode. Run up to Horrigan (I ran 11 steps, not sure what the minimum is), and once your NPCs finish moving, combat will end and Horrigan will talk to you. Once he's done, he'll initiate combat naturally, but the Turrets will be on your side since you activated the Counter-Insurgency protocol.

The second thing, I may be wrong about. I swear to go I remember doing this years ago. When you're retrieving Rebecca's book from Derek in the Den, you can read it before you give it back. Normally you'll get a message about getting "warm and fuzzy". However, I swear this happened once - I got a message about being touched and heartfelt and blah blah, and my Perception increased by 1. It was so long ago, I don't remember the exact circumstances, but I tried it since and its never happened again, so it may be a pre-patch thing. Not sure, but it did happen one time. Just once, but I remember it did. I think maybe your Perception has to be below a certain level or something, but if it doesn't work with my Perception at 6/7, then I figure it's not worth going through the game with such a low value.

Anyway, awesome guide, and great work on it! The effort you put into it really shows. Drake Clawfang 05:22, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

....ah. Thank you then. :) Drake Clawfang 07:09, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Infoboxes[]

Would it be possible for the bot to fill in some of the fields in the infoboxes like race and location based on categories? Ausir 11:58, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

How about moving Template:FO3 creature to Template:Infobox creature and Template:Creature to [[Template:Creature stats]] or something like that? The former can pretty much be used for any of the games for general info on the creature, not just FO3. Maybe even the FO1/2 creature stats template could be reworked into a horizontal table rather than a vertical infobox? Ausir 19:07, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Making Templates[]

Hi there! I'm the admin at the Norwegian version of The Vault. It might look pretty small, but I've been working a lot on the templates, but I've run into a lot of problems while translating it. Right now, I've run into a problem I'm not sure how to solve.

I've been trying to duplicate your Template:Nb main and it's components, but I can't seem to get it to work, as the backgrounds are all white. Check the results I've got (bottom of the page: http://no.fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Mal:Nb_hoved Anything I can do to fix it?

Thanks!

-=KAG=-Discussion - the VaultNO 21:37, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

I've added the .js pages, and I'll check in tomorrow to see if it's functioning. About the HTML stuff, I'm still pretty new to it, so it's been a lot of trial and error, this being one of them. I'll check through them all and change them as well, tomorrow. It's over midnight and I'm tired
Hope I haven't been bothering you! I'll let you get back to yours. I might very well come back later with more questions, though.
-=KAG=-Discussion - the VaultNO 23:13, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
I've already copied the CSS, but I did it again, saw that there were a few cahnges, and I'd rather keep it like the original from this page.
Just to be clear: I shuldn't edit ANYTHING coming after "class=", nor should I edit "class"?
-=KAG=-Discussion - the VaultNO 18:54, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
I've edited some of the templates now. I'll wait till tomorrow so that the .js is updated. If things aren't good then, I'm afraid I'll have to whine some more >.<
Thanks so far!

Template:Navbox Group[]

Yeah, sorry to bother you again, and this soon, but I've done another mistake. Honestly, I feel bad about asking you again, seeing as you've helped me so much already. As you might've understood, the problem is with my translation of Navbox Group. here. I think you can see my problem instantly, easily. {{{groupC4}}} and {{{contentC4}}} through {{{groupH4}}}and {{{contentH4}}} show up no matter what. I have no idea what I've done. Do you know what I've done wrong? Can also check out this template to see the problem. -=KAG=-Discussion - the VaultNO 00:08, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

A serious request about the PorterBot, templates from a different Wikia![]

Porter, hey! I have a couple of questions, though they are best answered in this link.

http://jakanddaxter.wikia.com/wiki/User_talk:Jakraziel#May_I_have_suggest_some_things.3F

Basically, are we allowed to use your PorterBot and the Template codes to improve the J&D Wikia? Their admin will, hopefully, be coming over shortly! --Light Daxter 21:44, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Hello Porter21, I am the Jak and Daxter Admin and unfortunately we are all rather inexperienced with the use of the more advanced wikia functions, if you could help us it would be greatly appreciated.Jakraziel 21:59, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Well, I'm not sure what you're asking for. You are of course free to copy any of our templates to your wiki, if you don't know how I can help you with that (although I won't be around for a bit starting at the end of this week). The bot is a program that runs on my computer and hence can't really be used by anyone but me; you can however set up an own bot using the instructions on the wikipedia page linked at User:PorterBot. I think you don't necessarily need a bot though, however I could be wrong as I don't know what you are planning to use it for :-) -- Porter21 (talk) 23:38, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks and a Question[]

Just wanted to say thanks for filling in the images for a bunch of the Fallout Tactics weapon and ammo articles I've been working on. Also, I was wondering what you think about doing up a new infobox template for Fallout Tactics ammunition? Since damage modifications work differently and damage resistance is replaced with penetration, the current ammo infobox templates aren't really accurate. I know that the game isn't exactly popular (or ever was to be honest), but it's still kind of bugging me. Mr. Sully 21:35, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

Not much much would need to be modified on the existing ammo infobox template. 'AC Modifier' should be removed (isn't used in FO:T), 'Damage Resistance (DR) Mod' should be replaced with 'Penetration' which is a positive or negative percentage (anywhere from -100% to 100%), and Damage Modifier is just 'Damage' and is also counted as a positive or negative percentage (again, anywhere from -100% to 200%). So it should go something like Name, Image, Type, Capacity, Penetration, Damage, Weight, Cost. I tried to alter the existing template before without much luck, so any help would be super appreciated, and I'll gladly swap out the info on the pages once there's a new infobox. Mr. Sully 12:00, 7 April 2009 (UTC)
Scratch that, Porter. Ausir modified the old ammo infobox already. Mr. Sully 12:46, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

boogie man[]

great job.

it looks a lot better than I could do. but

hell yeah: A but -but the part "lyrics" sais: "To be written This section is needed but has not been written yet. You can help The Vault by writing it."

its should say: instrumental (no lyrics).

I was wondering if you could edit that. I don't really wanna do it myself becouse I'll mess it up again.

I need some practise

anyway cheerio

Navbox group[]

I've tried to fix an error I get when I try to make navbox group-templates.

If you could check it out over here, that'd be great. I'm blank. It's a problem with navbox group, which I've renamed navboks gruppe. Might this be the reason that this is happening? Do I have to change it to navbox group?

Cheers. Happy holidays ;) -=KAG=-Discussion - the VaultNO 23:03, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

Navigation Box[]

Hey Porter. Sorry to be a pain, but I noticed something while checking out the Nav Box on the left of The Vault's main page. Fallout 2->Items->Armor is linking to the Category page and I think it should be linking to Fallout 2 armor and clothing. I think it got messed up when the page was vandalized a few weeks ago, but I had no clue how to fix it, so figured I should tell a sysop. If it's fine the way it is, my apologies! Mr. Sully 04:27, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks! I didn't realize those pages were so new, so that explains the links. I went ahead and added the info to the armor chart on Fallout armor and clothing since you fixed that one too. Mr. Sully 02:37, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

I know you're on vacation, so there's no rush.

We've got some new editores over on the norwegian fallout, and one of them is writing the stat articles. (SPECIAL etc). I translated the template Template:Infobox stat from here, but for some reason the images fail to follow the px specifications.

Also, what should be the policy on in-game typos? I see you corrected Jo is suspecious of the Slags. Find out about the dead bodies at the Ghost Farm and find out what happened to Karl to "suspicious", but "suspecious" is how it's actually spelled in-game. Ausir 09:42, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
Yes, the gold watch quests are pretty much variations on the same quest, but they are still counted as separate within the Pip-Boy. And I don't know what title they could be consolidated under. I'd keep them separate, but linking to each other in the "related" section of the infobox. Ausir 10:08, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks[]

Thanks for blocking User:Hgfj, there I was mucking around on the talk page even after you'd blocked them! I revert vandalism across various wiki's like this quite a bit, so I always find it a bit daunting warning users like that that they "will be blocked" because I'm never really sure if there is an admin around, so its great to see that you were active here at the time, very diligent of you, all the best — RC-1136 Hate Mail Here 11:32, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Template skins[]

Ausir told me to ask you about this, but, how do you add a skin to the templates on the wiki, like the one on Template:Armor. Reason I want to know is so that we can use the skins on the templates for the fanon wiki. //--TehK 21:43, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Both. //--TehK 21:54, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

You[]

Can I just say that it seems you are almost single handedly maintaining this Wiki? Almost all the edits I see come from you. So, I congratulate you. Fat Man Spoon 21:57, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Agreed. Here's to good work on the days following a horribly broken release. If only the bethesda patch coders worked as hard as you. -DragonJTSLeave me a message 23:06, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

T-51b Power Armor - Unique set of the Prewar build.[]

Thought I'd ask a more experienced individual about this topic. If the T-51b armor/hardened armor were much weaker than the version in Fallout 3, Could this signify that it is a unique set? Maybe the developers wanted to stick to the more classical armor standards with the Winterized set in the Operation Anchorage DLC. Do you think it is possibly unique?

In case you didn't notice, I replied on your Talk page before your last edit here. -- Porter21 (talk) 23:19, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Oh. Thanks for the clarification.

Broken Steel revert[]

Why did you revert my edit to the Broken Steel page? --Edgerunner76 11:31, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

The Pitt Weapons Template[]

The template notes the Steel saw and the Auto axe as different weapons. Is this supposed to be? Because they kinda' look the same - Tedjuh10

Broken Steel weapons[]

I've added the weapons from Broken Steel to Fallout 3 weapons. All stats are copied from the individual pages; but some stats are missing, since I can't access the G.E.C.K. ('m on 360) to look them up mysef. -- Sentinel 101 18:06, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

I added the weapons to the seperate tables (Small Guns, Energy Weapons, ...) today. Again, I can't fill in the MDPS stat. You may also need to check the values for all weapons affected by Pyromaniac, since I calculated them myself, and I'm not very good at Math ;). --Sentinel 101 18:13, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Help with Template:Games / Template:Gameicon[]

Hi Porter. Ausir suggested I talk to you (The Vault's template wizard) about this. One of the admins at Gearspedia is trying to use the game icons at their wiki. With my help, he has copied Template:Games and Template:Gameicon as well as the appropriate code found in Common.js and Common.css, but it isn't working properly. See this page as an example. The icons are displaying stacked instead of side by side, and I haven't been able to figure out what the problem is. When you have time, could you try to find out what we're doing wrong? Thanks in advance. JoePlay (talk) 22:02, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi Porter. I'm EightyOne, and its my mess with the gameicon templates on Gearspedia that you just helped clear up. I just wanted to personally thank you. I tried tweaking everything I could think of but nothing seemed to work. I can't belive I missed something so simple! Anyway, thanks for your help. --EightyOne (talk) 08:38, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
I have manged to adjust them without breaking anything! Thanks, --EightyOne (talk) 09:06, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Glennahall[]

This guy repeatedly puts in the Our Lady of Hope Hospital article that there is a Quantum in one of the machines. Is there really one there or is he just an ass. I said in the summary box that the machines are random. Put this right. Fat Man Spoon 14:08, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Hired Help[]

I think this page needs a bit of a cleanup. There are an awful amount of methods that can be used to kill Greta on the page. What do you think? Fat Man Spoon 21:23, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Oh, you mean me do it? I'll have a go. Fat Man Spoon
