For when you come back[edit source]

I have just added PRO ITEM.MSG (Fallout 2) and was wondering if a bot is able to take care of the links simliar to PRO ITEM.MSG (Fallout). User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 21:06, April 12, 2011 (UTC)

  • Another one for the bot: can it fix those double redirects for a blog post? JspoelJspoel Vault Boy.png 12:55, May 13, 2011 (UTC). And welcome back! Hope you had a good away time.
  • The games template icon (above infoboxes) is displayed twice. Can you fix it?
  • Games template icon is ok now! And I just had to wait 15 seconds or so to get the double redirects list...
Lol, they are jumping all over you now that you are back. But in regards to PRO ITEM.MSG (Fallout 2), some of the items where re-written or spelling corrected etc. However since I left you that message (which I had forgotten about) I have figured out how to use regular expressions for Open Office, so just did a simple search and replace with 0}{}{([A-Za-z0-9,'&\.\-\?\ \(\)"]{1,})} to 0}{}{[[$1]]} to add all the links in for item names, bit of manual checking afterwards and it is all good now. Welcome back![edit source]

Nice to see you arond again, you were greatly missed :). As you've probably noticed, I reverted to a much older version of the game icons because I wasn't able to adapt your latest version to the Wikia changes properly. Good to see that you've fixed it! Ausir(talk) <staff/> 01:34, May 14, 2011 (UTC)

Amazingly, most of the other stuff has been working fine even when you weren't around. ;) Ausir(talk) <staff/> 07:26, May 14, 2011 (UTC)

FO3 & FNV holotape & note category tags[edit source]

Hello! Both Avatar & Jspoelstra had told me to wait until you're back to ask this, since you had recently redone those sections. My remaining question is about the category tags at the bottom of the pages for holotapes & notes that are both a misc item & one or more notes. Personally, I think that those should have the misc item category link for their respective game in addition to the holotape & note category link, but I'll defer to your decision on the matter. Thanks, Canti-sama(talk) 15:53, May 14, 2011 (UTC)

OK, Thanks for your reply. I'll leave them as is, then. Canti-sama(talk) 18:32, May 14, 2011 (UTC)

FNV page creation templates[edit source]

Just a FYI, I have replaced all the {{PAGENAME}} with {{Pagename nd}} ready for Honest Hearts, kinda fed up still seeing xxxx (Fallout: New Vegas) in the infobox where people haven't replaced it with the name, this should hopefully prevent it. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 22:36, May 15, 2011 (UTC)

Will they (bethesda/obsidian) refund my disc if it breaks?[edit source]

I figured since you're an admin, you might be able to answer this: On the X360 disc for New Vegas, a small crack will eventually develop on the disc, going from the center to about 1/8" outward, and the console won't read the disc. The first time it happened (with a pre-ordered copy), it appeared about two months, and later it happened in just over a week. The disc was played on the old and the new versions of the X360. I've gone through two copies of the game because of this, and because I lost the f#%$ing receipts, I wasn't able to return them. I was thinking of writing Bethesda and/or Obsidian, but I have no proof to show that the discs were broken (as I'd thrown them out). I am about to buy a third copy, and will keep the receipt in a safe place this time, and will take photos of the disc when i first get it and if/when the crack begins to appear. If I email/write them, and send them proof, might they (if the store can't/won't) refund my purchase? 05:33, May 16, 2011 (UTC)

No idea, I'm afraid. You could try asking at Bethesda's official forums, that's probably your best chance to get an answer. -- Porter21 (talk) 07:28, May 16, 2011 (UTC)

Welcome back![edit source]

Quests[edit source]

Say Porter, I was thinking... Quests are divided into main, side and unmarked quests and as such they are defined in the infobox (type). But only the main- and unmarked quests result in Fallout: New Vegas main quest, resp. Fallout: New Vegas unmarked quest in the infobox title. Coding a quest as side just results in Fallout: New Vegas quest. Can you change it, so that it results in Fallout: New Vegas side quest? JspoelJspoel Vault Boy.png 12:25, May 16, 2011 (UTC)

  • Nice, looks better now. Thanks.

Achievement names[edit source]

Why change these? I liked the medical ones (to make them different from the technical ones for the main edit track). And I don't think it's a good idea to change achievement names without changing the images at the same time. Now we have techncial achievement names with medical images. Ausir(talk) <staff/> 11:14, May 18, 2011 (UTC)

As for "exploration" perks, how about these? Scout, Explorer, Outdoorsman, Survivalist, Pathfinder, Ranger, Survival Guru? This would be more in line with the naming of category achievements on Wikia in general. And then maybe change the ones I made for the general edit track (which I admit aren't that great) to the technical ones you made for categories? Ausir(talk) <staff/> 11:35, May 18, 2011 (UTC)
I'd prefer to keep the Karma names for the Wiki Love track. Ausir(talk) <staff/> 17:03, May 18, 2011 (UTC)

Would you mind extending the amount of perks listable in Template:Infobox weapon gamebryo to something more than 5? The combat knife has 7 perks at this point. :/ Nitty Tok. 12:36, May 18, 2011 (UTC)

Hey Porter, you may or may not remember me, but since I was playing Honest Hearts, I figured I'd stop by and help out. However I just noticed I created a location page North Folk Campground, the other day, and it should be North Fork Campground. Help with Archive Tool[edit source]

Hiya :) As you're the listed adapter of Archive Tool for oasis, I thought I'd hit you up with a question. I'm trying to implement Archive Tool at wikia:tardis:MediaWiki:common.js, but am having some difficulty. Now, I know I've got problems with the templates it calls not actually existing yet on our wiki. That's an easy fix. What I don't understand is why I don't even see the archive button, in either Firefox or Safari for Mac. I've got a Windows user telling me they see it fine. I've tried importing the script from dev, and that didn't work for me/Macs but it did work for Windows. Thinking that having the entire script on our wiki might change things, I grabbed the code from this wiki and plugged it in. Still no joy. Even here, on this wiki, I don't see anything which remotely resembles the screenshot present at I've tried to archive talk pages here at Fallout, but I see no trace of anything related to archiving. So is it Windows only? That doesn't even make sense wtih js, does it? Wikia can't be that bleeding edge with its java, and this tool has been around for a couple of years now. Have you disabled it here with some other code I'm not seeing? Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Update: So I've looked now at my site and yours in Monobook. And there is an archive tab in that skin. Have recent changes to Oasis maybe made this tool go wobbly since you adapted it to the original version of Oasis? CzechOut/talk  01:16:31 Sat 21 May 2011

Thanks for your speedy reply. I should let you know, by way of problem report, that ArchiveTool doesn't "work fine" on your wiki. At least not for me. In neither Version 4.1.3 (4533.19.4) of Safari for Mac, nor en-US; rv: Gecko/20110420 Firefox/3.6.17 for Mac does the archive button appear (well, you know what I more precisely mean there — "the archive option fails to appear under the edit button dropdown") on talk pages on this wiki — let alone tardis. Obviously, I can't troubleshoot the problem on this wiki, but on my wiki, I've taken the following steps to troubleshoot.
  1. I cut and paste the code from wikia:dev into tardis' wikia.js and performed hard cache dumps
  2. I then confirmed that it was working in monobook, in both Firefox and Safari
  3. I then returned to Oasis and confirmed in both browsers, after more (really unnecessary) cache dumps that the edit button had no archive button. I made sure to stay on the same talk page that had previously displayed the archive button in monobook.
  4. I then eliminated, line-by-line, other imported scripts housed in common.js, on the off-chance there was some kind of conflict. No conflict was discovered.
  5. I then confirmed that wikia.js was explicitly forcing an import of common.js
  6. I then put the whole code, from wikia:dev, into wikia.js, to see if that more direct call by the wikia skin made any difference. It didn't.
  7. Finally, I remarked out every line of code in all active js locations except for archive tool in wikia.js. Still no archive button in Oasis, and of course no button in monobook, since the code was only in wikia.js.
Between each individual step, I was of course performing a hard cache refresh — twice — so that I made sure I knew I was seeing the changed state.
I have come up with a potential lead on the problem, however. Because I can't edit MediaWiki:Common.js on this site, I can't access the message that tells you what templates are active on the page being edited. On my site, though — now in both wikia.js and common.js — this code is producing redlinked templates. I get this message:
Templates used on the current version of this page:
Template:'+config.archiveListTemplate+' (edit)
Template:'+config.archivePageTemplate+' (edit)
Does that happen on your site? I'm by no means a js expert, but I've played around with it enough to know I don't normally see redlinked templates on js pages. Also, is there any way my inability to see evidence of this archive tool in Oasis could be browser or OS related? That is, do you have known Mac users on this site able to use the archive tool? I should point out that when i said I had a user who could see the archive tool, I don't know what skin he could see it in. For all I know, he's a die hard that prefers to edit in monobook.
Any clues at all to what might be going on, just in the context of your own site. I think if you could diagnose the problem here, it would obviously solve my implementation too. CzechOut/'talk - 12:42, May 21, 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for continuing to work with me on this problem. Here are the results of my examination of the Firefox error console (and Firebug's error page, which I imagine to be pretty much the very same thing). My test page was user talk:GhostAvatar/Archive 5, I confirmed it was showing me the ArchiveTool in monobook, but not in oasis.
  • I have one actual error (red). It says, "error: d is undefined" then gives this source file: Firebug, though not the Firefox error console, seems to more specifically define the problem as being somewhere in "line 25", which is the long code dump after the remarks surrounding the "Sizzle CSS Selector Engine". Dunno if that could possibly have anything to do with ArchiveTool, or interactions with ArchiveTool. But you said report full-on red errors, so there we go.
  • The page gives dozens of warnings (yellow), including one that significantly mentioned ArchiveToolt:
    • Reference to undefined property window ArchiveToolConfig. When I clicked on the link, it opened a page dense with code, but automatically highlighted this area:
      function archiveTool(){var config=window.ArchiveToolConfig=$.extend(true,{archiveListTemplate:'Archives',archivePageTemplate:'Archivepage',archiveSubpage:'Archive',userLang:false,en:{buttonArchiveTool:"Archive",buttonArchiveToolTooltip:"Archive this page",buttonSelectAll:"Select all",buttonDeselectAll:"Deselect all",buttonSaveArchive:"Save archive",buttonAbort:"Abort",labelLines:"Lines",labelSections:"Sections",summaryArchiveFrom:"ArchiveTool: Archiving from",summaryArchiveTo:"ArchiveTool: Archiving to"}},window.ArchiveToolConfig||{});function msg(name){if(config.userLang&&wgUserLanguage in config&&name in config[wgUserLanguage])
I don't know if any of that helps us diagnose the problem at all. But that's what I found, at any rate. CzechOut/talk 20:53, May 21, 2011 (UTC)
Again using User talk:GhostAvatar/Archive 5 as the test page, I can report that you have eliminated the error and the two warnings which explicitly named artchiveTool. However, I still have no joy in Wikia in either Safari or Firefox. And here's the weird thing. Your change took away the archive button from Firefox Monobook. So now only Safari Monobook can see the archive button. On balance, your change is a definite loss of error, but also of amenity. czechout    09:28:03 Sun 22 May 2011
See, I saw the lines you had changed and thought to myself, why is he messin' with ArchiveEdit, but I figured you knew what you were doin'. Anyway, your most recent changes have resulted only in the return of the archive button to Firefox Monobook. Which is good, of course, but Oasis ain't budgin'.
Of course, we're primarily looking for errors when in Oasis. But I did want to tell you about something that's consistently happening in Monobook that I've noticed. I don't get any error when just viewing a talk page in Monobook. But if I edit, and when I change something at Special:Preferences — again only in Firefox Monobook — I get this message:
[JavaScript Error: "[Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80040111 (NS_ERROR_NOT_AVAILABLE) [nsIMIMEService.getTypeFromURI]" nsresult: "0x80040111 (NS_ERROR_NOT_AVAILABLE)" location: "JS frame :: file:///Users/workin4free2/Library/Application%20Support/Firefox/Profiles/sx17uisz.default/extensions/%7Be0204bd5-9d31-402b-a99d-a6aa8ffebdca%7D/components/external-app-blocker.js :: anonymous :: line 126" data: no]" {file: "file:///Users/workin4free2/Library/Application%20Support/Firefox/Profiles/sx17uisz.default/extensions/%7Be0204bd5-9d31-402b-a99d-a6aa8ffebdca%7D/components/external-app-blocker.js" line: 126}]
I can't share the url with you, cause it's pointing back into my system. But when I click on it, I get the java the message implies: a thing called External App Handler, which purports to handle "displaying confirmation dialogs for external apps and protocols due to Firefox Bug". It then gives the url . Only a tiny bit of the code on this page is highlighted as being in error:
newObj[method] = eval(fun);
I'm not quite sure why I'm including this, because it's not in Oasis. But it's so consistent, I thought maybe it might spark something in your mind. User talk:CzechOut 13:49, May 22, 2011 (UTC)
I really can't thank you enough for trying to help me track this down. I think I've found the kernel of the problem. Another Mac user has come forward and said they can see the button in Firefox 4, runing on MAc OS X 10.6. I'm only at 10.4 and my last possible Java update was from late 2009. So clearly he's running something more modern than me, and that's probably where our difficulties arise. The question I'd have is that other code, like wikia:dev:EditIntroButton is using a form of java syntax that works well enough for me. Is there some way to tweak the syntax of ArchiveTool's reference to the oasis skin so that it's usable by those of us with a slightly older version of Java? (You might just say, "Download the latest Java, but with Macs that means getting the latest version of the OS, which isn't physically possible for me to run, because I don't have an Intel-based Mac. I'd have to buy a new Mac to use the latest Java — a position that a lot of Mac users are in.)
So, the nub of it is this: clearly it's possible for me to see alterations to the Edit drop down. We've got at least two or three java-implemented addiitions already in our drop down. I notice too that EditIntroButton uses a different syntax when referencing how it's to put itself into the edit menu. So is there a way to maybe write something in a different way that's only implemented when a specific version of the OS X software is detected? There's just something in the following that is just slightly too modern. Does any of this ring a bell in your mind as syntax that was "new" at the time you did the oasis conversion?
case 'oasis':
        case 'wikia':
           pageBody = '#WikiaArticle';
           pageControls = (wgNamespaceNumber == 3) ? '#WikiaUserPagesHeader > ul.wikia-menu-button > li > ul' : '#WikiaPageHeader > ul.wikia-menu-button > li > ul';
           pageControlHTML = '<li id="control_archive"><a id="ca-archive" rel="nofollow">' + msg('buttonArchiveTool') + '</a></li>';
           buttonPrimary = ['<a class="wikia-button">', '</a>'];
           buttonSecondary = ['<a class="wikia-button secondary">', '</a>'];
--user talk:CzechOut 17:33, May 22, 2011 (UTC)
Well, thanks for looking back into it. That's a very intriguing observation. I'd assume that means that I could at least broach the subject directly to Wikia support with a Special:Contact report, since it may lead directly too the wikia skin. czechout    14:51:50 Mon 23 May 2011
No, wait, that doesn't make sense. The change you made yesterday — albeit initially to the wrong code, but nevertheless one that appeared on my test page (because user talk:GhostAvatar/Archive 5 uses EditArchive as well as ArchiveTool) — made that error go away. I no longer get it my test page on this site. czechout    15:17:36 Mon 23 May 2011
Hmmm, I think I'm still confused. By "that error", above, I do mean the red error "d is undefined". But remember how yesterday you went and changed some things? After those changes — that is, my current experience of fallout.wikia — is that I no longer have a "d is undefined" error. So what does that support or contradict your theory that it's something to do with the default wikia skin js? And, speaking of that, is there some place I can go to look at that js? czechout    18:07:12 Mon 23 May 2011
Let me again say thanks for your continued efforts. I know precisely how difficult it is to troubleshoot something in an operating system you don't use. I got exactly one message related to ArchiveTool:
There are also some new things popping up in the error console only (not Firebug). Under the Messages tab there are now six instances of the same message:
Torbutton NOTE: No browser found: [scrubbed]
Other than telling you that these messages appear in blue and give timestamps that are the same down to the hundredth of a second, I got nothin' else out of them, not even a link. czechout    21:05:51 Mon 23 May 2011

ArchiveTool: detailed debugging[edit source]

Okay, here are the new messages I'm getting:

ArchiveTool: Initializing
ArchiveTool: Passed config
ArchiveTool: Passsed msg
ArchiveTool: Passed skin check

czechout    14:06:30 Tue 24 May 2011

Nope, still getting the four messages above, even after performing two consecutive cache clears, just to make sure I was looking at current state of fallout.wikia. czechout    14:33:45 Tue 24 May 2011
Yes, there's now a change. In addition to the above four, I now have
ArchiveTool: wgNamespaceNumber = 3, wgAction = edit
czechout    14:52:08 Tue 24 May 2011
Yep, I'm getting the above additional message just from page view. My address bar currently reads: czechout    15:07:09 Tue 24 May 2011
You're right. Here's the message sequence from Monobook:
ArchiveTool: Initializing
ArchiveTool: Passed config
ArchiveTool: Passsed msg
ArchiveTool: Passed skin check
ArchiveTool: wgNamespaceNumber = 3, wgAction = view
ArchiveTool: Passed security check
ArchiveTool: Passed var declaration
ArchiveTool: Detected skin "monobook"
ArchiveTool: Running main function
ArchiveTool: Inserting button
ArchiveTool: Finished loading
So now that we've found the glitch, what do we do? I assume report it to Wikia? czechout    15:23:02 Tue 24 May 2011
Okay. I've gotta say, though, that I'm not quite understanding the error enough to report it in a way that will pinpoint the problem to someone more conversant in java. Would it be clear enough to people if I just pointed to our two talk pages here? czechout    15:35:58 Tue 24 May 2011
Alright, I reported to Wikia, and largely just pointed them back to our two talk pages here. Hopefully that's enough for them to parse the problem. Thank you so much for all your hard work on this issue. czechout    15:58:49 Tue 24 May 2011

Response from Wikia[edit source]

I thought you might be interested in the response from Wikia. You'll be happy to know it confirms your diagnosis, and at the same time doesn't lay blame at my somewhat older system, either. Here's what user:Uberfuzzy has to say :

This actually isnt a Mac thing, nor a browser thing. Its a bug somewhere in MediaWiki.
For some yet unknown reason, there are a batch of users, that on ALL page views, the javascript variable wgAction is always set to 'edit', and never correctly matches the mode, such as 'view' or a few other things.
Normally, this doesnt affect wiki viewing, or editing, and only comes up if users are writing custom JS to do things based on that value (such as detecting view vs edit mode).
I've confirmed your account is doing this, and added the report to the ongoing ticket on the matter and bumped it up for re-investigation.

So, good on ya for great diagnostic skills. :) I'll keep you apprised when the Wikia team come up with a solution. In the meantime, I was hoping you could help me understand what wgAction actually does, and whether there might be a way around it. Is it what's responsible for putting the archive button under the edit drop down? If so, couldn't we just write a little bit of java for me to use at the individual account level that would, I dunno, make a free-standing button outside of the edit menu? czechout    22:53:11 Tue 24 May 2011

Hmmm, might be a idea for Goth to also report this and confirm if there account has the same bug, since they have the same issue on a windows platform. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 23:06, May 24, 2011 (UTC)
Heh, the collision thing was precisely what I was working on when you sent your message. And your solution was pretty much what I was considering doing. Scary.  :) Oh, and "archive" has appeared in my dropdown, at least in Safari, thanks to your li'l workaround. But I haven't tested it yet, because it's in the "collided" area. Still, thanks so much for that :) I'll report back once I've fixed the collision to let you know if it fully works. That way, you can include the workaround in the wikia:dev write-up.
To keep you abreast of latest conversations with Uberfuzzy, I wrote him back, giving him details of my system, just in case it helped define the "batch of users" he referred to in his original reposnse. He came back with:
This has nothing to do with anything your browser or computer.
I confirmed the same happening while accessing your account, on windows 7 using GoogleChrome.
It is happening on the server, in the code, before anything is even sent to your browser.
In my latest response, I asked him your question about why it's only appearing in Oasis if it's a MediaWiki error, but have so far got no response on that front. And, as to AvatarGhost's suggestion, I definitely think this other user should report to Wikia support cause it might bump the problem further up the queue. czechout    15:19:18 Wed 25 May 2011
Hmmm, well I promised to report back in after I introduced your collision fixer. Weird thing is, I'm not seeing "archive" under my edit menu anymore. Turning off the fix doesn't make it reappear. So who knows what's going on. It was probably a little too soon to hope that those changes would have gotten filtered down to the individual wikia level, anyway. I'll check on it tomorrow and see where we are. I should be seeing changes to global.js by then, don't you think? czechout    16:32:42 Wed 25 May 2011[edit source]

No news on a backup, but through the magic of google cache, I have started to remake the tables here. They are missing images, but all the numbers are still accessible. It's gonna take me a while to finish it - Dude101

I bit off more than I can chew. There are 482 tables to be made and it would take me a very long time alone. Some of the data is missing from google as well :( Maybe we can get some help involved? - Dude101

Navbox[edit source]

Hi, I just thought I should ask if I am allowed to create navboxes, I have some experience with them, and wondered if one for say Overseers would be prudent. The Emporer 00:37, May 23, 2011 (UTC)

Honest Hearts location cell IDs[edit source]

Porter, can you add the cell ID's of Honest Hearts locations to the New Vegas locations cell ID page? I've already done the interiors. Tried exteriors too but no luck. With Dead Money you gave me some tips, but I couldn't find interior and exterior cell data. JspoelJspoel Vault Boy.png 20:38, May 23, 2011 (UTC)

  • Allright, thanks.

antagonists navbox[edit source]

Hello, Porter. I just wanted to let you know that I edited the navbox "Antagonists" because I wanted to include Miles Reese. Van Buren is included, so I thought BOS 2 should be included as well. Just sending you this message to make sure I did everyone the correct way. Thanks. Take drugs! Kill a bear! 23:22, May 23, 2011 (UTC)

OK, cool. Thanks for taking a look at it for me. BILLYOCEAN 17:28, May 24, 2011 (UTC)

Nature Category in Creatures Page[edit source]

Hello Porter21. Im typing this message to ask you for permission to do something. That something is to add somethng to each creature page. I want to add a "Nature" (can be changed to your liking) category. This category will list all of the things the creature does (actions like: if it smells, growls before attacking, etc.). For instance: A Feral ghoul (Fallout 3) will make a hissing sound before engaging in hand-to-hand combat. Thank you for your time. FalloutFreak9090 21:17, May 23, 2011 (UTC)

I don't really think this is necessary at all to be absolutely honest :/ --User:Cartman!User talk:Cartman! 20:06, May 24, 2011 (UTC)

FO3 NPC project[edit source]

Hello Porter,

Maybe you have forgotten about the Fallout 3 NPC overhaul project and maybe you haven't. I have recently been pouring lots of work into the project and have finished essentially the majority of all unfinished sections, including all the add-ons. However, there is one thing that I cannot do and that is give peer reviews. As the new project leader, I'm asking to to take some time out of your online schedule and do some reviews on the project, if you'd be so kind. Who knows? If I get enough people doing peer reviews, we could finally finish this project. We didn't finish it before Fallout: New Vegas came out like we hoped, but at least we can finish it. Best regards, Kastera (talk) 22:42, May 24, 2011 (UTC)

Categories[edit source]

I see you made some changes to the FNV mentioned only location related categories. I was working on it too, on an old PC which didn't allow me to delete :/

I also have an idea about a new category: race: Fallout: New Vegas Caucasian characters, Fallout: New Vegas African American character and Fallout: New Vegas Hispanic characters. Also for FO3. What do you say? JspoelJspoel Vault Boy.png 10:34, May 26, 2011 (UTC)

  • That will take me a while, I have no savegames of PL.

Welcoming greet[edit source]

Thanks for your greetings!!! abcd911

Achievement boosting[edit source]

I recently discovered that user:Binuke was doing several edits on the Cazador page, consisting of only capping and de-capping the word "Cazador". I told him that "achievement boosting" is forbidden by the Vault, and may lead to bans on his talk page. He recently erased my post on his talk page, leading me to this report. Thank you for your time, and great many contributions to the Vault! Hugs Scar: "Say 'ello to my little friend!" 16:54, May 26, 2011 (UTC)

NPC project[edit source]

Thanks for all of your recent work on the project! I know it's your job to stuff like this, but you should at least get a little recognition for, am I right? Kastera (talk) 23:17, May 27, 2011 (UTC)

Excellent. This will be strange for a bit. I've been working on this project for so long now that I'll need to find another one to occupy my time here. But that shouldn't be to hard. :P

Yeah, we're all going to miss that box. It's been there for at least a good year, year and a half.

Jiang[edit source]

I noticed that you added a picture of "Jiang", but that skeleton has a shotgun in the image, maing it had to have been the bank robber room (1G). Jiang's skeleton is in 1D. Could you go back and take an image of the real Jiang? Thanks, Kastera (talk) 23:36, May 28, 2011 (UTC)

Pipgirl101[edit source]

You may want to take a look at considering all the personal attacks and just general nuisance and drama mongering she causes around here a little bit of action may need to be considered. Funny, since she spends most of her time on the Vault complaining about abusive comments towards herself.

Vault Project Medal
You have been awarded the Vault Project Medal for your efforts within the Fallout 3 NPC overhaul project.
Couldn't have done it with all of your peer reviews! -- Kastera (talk) 03:06, May 31, 2011 (UTC)

So what now?[edit source]

Should I go down the list of participants and award all the still active members medals for participating? Kastera (talk) 03:23, May 31, 2011 (UTC)

Scratch that; looks like you already got it handled.

Are you going to take that on or should I? (I recommend you; I don't trust myself not to muck something up).

Navbox documentation[edit source]

The Navbox/doc page misses a few pieces of code here and there. The <pre> code lists a groupA2 here and there, but it doesn't show in the template below. I checked the code and it's simply missing. I'm not sure if there's any more missing sections though. At least one of the sections missing it is 'Standard box with groups, blocks and image'. --Light Daxter - Talk 23:38, May 31, 2011 (UTC)

FO3 overhaul[edit source]

Like I said to Kastera, I understand why I was removed from the participants list. Though I have to admit it stung a little not getting a medal for all those images. On another note, can you check the pagemoves I did yesterday, some (irradiated) consumables. Sometimes I'm not sure what is decapped and what not, like sugar bombs, mac & cheese, pork n' beans. Also for chems like party time mentats, psycho, jet, buffout, hydra, cateye, turbo, hydra, med-x, radaway. How do these need to be written in mid-sentence? Maybe you can also take a look at the chems page and decap what's needed. JspoelJspoel Vault Boy.png 17:40, May 31, 2011 (UTC)

  • And another one: all the marked locations in FNV, DM and HH which are not proper nouns so to speak, like ... caves, shack, station, safehouse, nest, crater, reststop, mine and a few more. Do they need to be capped or decapped? On the overview page they are capped, but on the pages themselves they are mostly decapped. What is good?

Rollback Request[edit source]

Hello. I have been here for two months now, and have been very active on the Wiki since mid-April. I have made quite a lot of vandal reverts & vandal reports, and have undone several bad edits, and made many edits to the Wiki, joining the Anti-capitalisation project with a shaky start, but soon got the hang of it and made many decap edits. I have also helped fill in the gaps of the Fallout Universe by creating many new articles for mentioned characters, places, factions, etc.

I think i would be a good addition to the rollbacks of The Vault and help further against vandals and others.

DLC reference in infobox[edit source]

Porter, before your away time we had some discussion about what should be the game reference for DLC items in the infobox. Now we've had two FNV DLC's and most pages (except the DM weapons I noticed) have the DLC reference (so Dead Money character instead of Fallout: New Vegas character and so on). Personally, I have come to like the DLC reference better and with Honest Hearts it's even just the FNVHH being used I believe. At the time you said that the choice we make for FNV DLC's needs to be consistent with FO3's DLC's, so I suggest we do it for those DLC's also. I've done the characters of Mother Zeta now. Can I have the go-ahead? JspoelJspoel Vault Boy.png 13:32, June 2, 2011 (UTC)

  • Yes, let the bot do it if that's possible. That would save us a lot of work.
  • Great! You can skip DM and HH. I think almost everything has been done there, just a few DM weapons (mods) not and I'm doing those right now.
  • Allright, thanks. I see you changed some of my redirects of which you already talked about it in your former post. I'll take those examples and compare them to DM and HH.

Old World Blues game icon[edit source]

I noticed Old World Blues has the same game icon as FNV. Can you dig up a nice game icon for this upcoming DLC somewhere? JspoelJspoel Vault Boy.png 22:30, June 2, 2011 (UTC)

Fallout 3 DLC quests[edit source]

As you know, your bot recently changed "game=FO3" to "game=FO3<select DLC>" in the infobox as seen here. However, that change created a redlink at the top of the box. So, do we need to make pages for add-on quests separate from Fallout 3 quests or should we do something else? Kastera (talk) 01:37, June 7, 2011 (UTC)

  • Well, at least it got fixed. That's all that matter.

ArchiveTool oasis bug update[edit source]

Hey again :) I just wanted to stop back by and say that it took a very long time, but the workaround that you found for that odd problem affecting me and a handful of other users did eventually work. It worked within a day in Firefox. But, for reasons I can't understand or explain, it took forever to kick into Safari. It makes no sense, because I initially saw it working within Safari first, but then it poofed away and didn't return for over a week. I wish I could explain it, but the only thing I can say is that I obviously took sensible steps in the interregnum, including restarting Safari, ensuring the cache was purged, completely resetting Safari to factory conditions, restarting the computer, and restarting the computer after being turned completely off. None of that had any measurable effect. It just started working a few days ago in the middle of a session.

But the happy upshot is that, at least for me, your workaround has fixed the issue for me in the browsers I use. So I think you can publish your workaround at wikia:dev as a probable solution for people experiencing the known MediaWiki bug. Thanks again for your diligent diagnostic work. :) czechout    19:35:37 Tue 07 Jun 2011

Ghost proposed me an idea of creating a new type of page for World Objects (like Containers and storage or Vehicles) for those with the interaction is more important than the norm (such as healing archway), and I think it's an excellent idea, allowing a differentiation of normal world objects and special world objects and allow the player to have an overview of these. Caravan cards[edit source]

What will happen to the card images then? I don't want them to get lost. I don't see them in your sandbox. JspoelJspoel Vault Boy.png 16:15, July 3, 2011 (UTC)

  • I suppose it's allright like you propose it. Sorry I'm not so enthousiastic, because I really liked those Collector's Edition card images to have a prominent place. No they are tucked away somewhere on a bunch on the promotional items page, and if you search for a card, you won't see the CE card image anymore that belongs to it, but are redirected to a page with just some text and numbers. To compensate I suggest a link then for the general deck cards to the images on the promotional items page. I'm not in favor for removing the formid numbers, we add those numbers everywhere, so why not here? The decks themselves can go to the Caravan deck page, that's fine by me. JspoelJspoel Vault Boy.png 18:13, July 4, 2011 (UTC)
  • I've taken another look at that promotional items page and now I see it's not that long. As far as I'm concerned you can add the CE card images there in a gallery with a link to it on the Caravan card page, like you suggested in the first place. No need for a seperate CE card page. So in fact I can agree on your first suggestion, removal of GECKid is also fine by me (though I don't really mind them).

Navboxen richtig darstellen[edit source]

Cards[edit source]

It's coming together nicely, those card pages. Another point, I've been making some disambig pages for characters. Kickban expiration?[edit source]

Hi, just a quick question. On July 5th, around 5:00 PM, I was kickbanned from the chat (and rightly so), along with being blocked from a couple of user talk pages. My block has expired, and apologies have been given to everyone involved. However, when I try to access the chat again, I get the same error message that was there when I got kickbanned. According to Kastera, the administrator that blocked me from the pages, said that I should be able to access the chat normally once my block was over, and that I should contact you if it wasn't working. Could you check to make sure I'm in the clear for using the chat again? Thanks a lot. Sincerely, It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Otisman! 11:35, July 7, 2011 (UTC)

Chatroom problems[edit source]

Forwarding this message to you, also sent it to Ausir JspoelJspoel Vault Boy.png 13:31, July 11, 2011 (UTC)

Ausir, a few days ago we had an unwanted situation in the chatroom while there were only normal users present. User:DR.EdwardRichtofen1943 was really causing trouble there, seeing the reactions here. So the problem is we don't have it on record, and have to believe it on the word of users. What do you want to do with Richthofen? If it is decided to keep the chat feature (which is popular I believe, though keeping users away from editing), then we need some kind of (short-term) chat-log, which registers conversations for admins to consult. Also some trusted users could be appointed to chat-moderators. And at the moment us admins needs to manually remove the bannedfromchat checkmark. It would be much better so separate the kickban into kick, and ban (Avatar's idea). With kick being banning them from chat (possible for chat-moderators and admins), and ban which also blocks them from the wiki (only possible for admins). And at the same time being able to set a time-frame for it. I'll send this post also to Porter, as I think a speedy solution is needed. JspoelJspoel Vault Boy.png 13:24, July 11, 2011 (UTC)

Unique and add-on weapons[edit source]

Follow pages of interest[edit source]

Is it possible to follow a page of interest even I have not contributed to it? I mean I can do it in newspaper debates so why not here? The way it's normal done is by sending an empty post with follow ticked off. But because it's empty it never shows and I only receive any new debates to the article? Is this possible in wiki?--Kilroy1975 14:17, July 20, 2011 (UTC)

Robin on Rollerskates[edit source]

OWB robots[edit source]

I saw that Roxie was in this category when I edited that page, so I added the ones I made yesterday to the category and no other pages because I thought I had missed them. I am sorry to have caused you a problem, I simply thought I had made a mistake and so tried to correct it. I know better now :). One question for you though: I would like to change what comes up when you click Fallout 1 or 2 locations when making a new page, so that it also includes notable characters in the initial template. Several people have directed me towards you, and so I hoped that maybe you would talk me through it? Thanks for the heads up and have a nice day, TheGuardianCalligraphy.pngGuardianoftheWastesTag.png.

Oh. Well that is a shame, but thanks for the help. I think it is a useful section, especially if you need to find people. Is it okay if I continue to add it to the pages I create? TheGuardianCalligraphy.pngGuardianoftheWastesTag.png 22:01, July 24, 2011 (UTC).

Userpage[edit source]

My user page was recently vandalized and I'm not sure how to go about it. I banned the guy for two weeks until this can be sorted out. Does this sort of stuff lead to a perma-ban or am I just getting too overprotective of myself? --Kastera (talk) 06:29, July 25, 2011 (UTC)

I protected it the moment it got vandalized, so that fixes that. Why can't kids just play nice?

Chat moderators[edit source]

With my comment on the chat feature I meant it's moving people away from article editing, regular users as well as admins. Avatar has given us a break right now, leaving his bot in the chatroom to be the ever watchful eye. He even programmed it to kickban people if it sees gibberish. And it's working out quite nicely. Every day a few kicks and I think Avatar himself browses through the bot's log to see if there's any more mishap. But a chatlog would be better of course. And also setting a timeframe and a split between a kickban and wikiban. By the way, you already received a reaction by wiki-staff and our request should be granted with the next update. Concerning who qualifies to be a chatmoderator, that they need to have a certain level of maturity and be active are the best to mention. I already have a few names in mind because I spend a lot of time here and know who's been chatting a lot. Just create a forum thread where people can name candidates like you explained I think. If someone is voted for, we'll know soon enough if he wants the job or not. We could use probably 3 non-admin moderators or so. See how it goes from there. Moderators[edit source]

What do you think of making the "moderator" rank more formalized here at The Vault, as a group of users with "chat moderator" and "rollback" rights? I don't think it makes sense to separate the two. Ausir(talk) <staff/> 12:59, July 27, 2011 (UTC)

Well, I think it's more of a trust issue - it's not as if all admins use all of the admin tools either. I think the question is whether rollback and chatmod rights require the same level of trust, and I'd be inclined to say they do. And it would be a nice formal level of user rights for people to aspire to even if they're not ready to be admins yet. Ausir(talk) <staff/> 13:13, July 27, 2011 (UTC)
I think "moderator" is a good name, pretty clear and clearly below "administrator". Some users do call admins "moderators", but it's not much of a deal given that admins will have all rights that moderators do. And we could set some formal criteria for moderator requests from now on. Ausir(talk) <staff/> 15:19, July 27, 2011 (UTC)

Polls in news[edit source]

A bit ago, Ausir gave Crazy sam the go-ahead to publish his weekly polls in the The Vault news feed. I then asked him if I could do the same, since my polls seldom get above 10 voters and Crazy sam's latest poll has already gotten over 350 voters. However, he's likely too busy to give me any answer, since it's not essential to the flow of the wiki, so I though I'd ask you. Am I able to post my polls to the news feed? Thank you for your quick response, Kastera (talk) 21:38, July 29, 2011 (UTC)

Wow, that was a quick response. I'll do that now. Thanks!

Doctor O or 0?[edit source]

Porter, what do you think of renaming O to 0? I'm (like most other admins) in favor of renaming him 0, as soon reveals to be his real name. You can read the talkpage for some discussion about it. And How it's coming along with the map marker images for the infobox (that continues to be my special interest). JspoelJspoel Vault Boy.png 15:29, July 31, 2011 (UTC)

New infobox[edit source]

Ahhh, been wondering what I was missing. Been watching the progress, but missed the personnel CSS you added. I like it indeed, defiantly like some of the features added (noticed the collapse option you added a few days ago), tool tips works well aswell.

However I do have a concern about the placement of the icon in regards to transparent images, did a few preview edits and in some cases it overlays the main image (example .357 mag with .357 mag icon, looked weird). Is there a option to choose placement of the icon i.e. which corner of the table cell the div is placed (this way it could be placed in a unused area of the image). Or to add some buffering between the 2 images. However it does work very well when overlaying a .jpg image (tested with Ain't That a Kick in the Head quest and achievement icon image) User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 18:05, July 31, 2011 (UTC)

I am with you, I would prefer consistent site-wide placement of the icon. So maybe a option to shrink the main image and shift it over to the left might be the answer. That should prevent any conflicts without reducing the main image to much. I don't think I would want to be using px option, as it would shave the image down on both sides. And the features you mentioned are all awesome, defiantly needed. I especially like the upload image button and the restrictions on the image size. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 19:12, July 31, 2011 (UTC)
Moving it down is probably the best option, as in most cases the overlap will only tend to affect weapons (mainly rifles). In those cases the picture tends to be a long narrow image (example: Sniper rifle (Fallout: New Vegas)), so they are not tending to take much real estate in terms of hight. Personally I wouldn't go for half hight, because there will be a few cases where this isn't going to solve the issue ("there is always one" law, lol). I would say the best option would be something similar to the px option that is already in place, but applied to offsetting the image placement in terms of hight. That way the offset can be varied by editors to fit the image in question. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 19:39, August 1, 2011 (UTC)

We Three Approach In Humble Questionittudinaless!!!![edit source]

Emily and Mineself didst have a question that no oracle in the land of the chat could answer. Scar did have been told to seek you out, and seeked (sucked? sought? yes SOUGHT!! There we go) SOUGHT** out your self in the most intrepid and other adjectives of manners!
Weary, we three (for the Scar didst insist upon coming with us, something about pointing the way and that we damnable young whippersnappers wouldn't find our way or something) come to you know and supplecantily we ask, o Great Bureaucrat of The Vault.... how does one upload a video to the site, not just link-to or embed the thing - specifically to our own profiles and no where else, as we know that's against the rules.
For having the very temerity to approach you, dear and powerful Sir, Madame or Other, ... we also bring you these three sacrifices as an offering that the murder, burning and eating of such gifts borne and laid before you may sate and allow we three to leave unscathed.

Chat Moderators[edit source]

Porter, I've been doing some thinking, and I believe that there needs to be more than one Australian chat moderator. I am very happy to be a mod but I cannot look after the chat during this time period alone. I think if I had some backup, it would work much more efficiently. I would like to ask that you make ButterflyKiss a mod also, because we are in the same time zone and if I am unable to moderate the chat for any reason, ButterflyKiss would be the perfect candidate for a stand-in moderator. ButterflyKiss is polite, has a strong sense of judgement, and is very willing to be a moderator. Please, think about it and let me know about your decision. I cannot look after the chat alone and it would ease my mind to know someone is standing in for me when I am unavailable. Thank you. Yes Man default.png 11:21, August 2, 2011 (UTC)

Thank you, Porter. My mind is more on the safety of the chat, and it was kind of pressuring to be the only person in my timezone who had moderator rights. At least now I can feel at ease when I'm not on the chat. Again, thank you. Yes Man default.png 11:56, August 2, 2011 (UTC)

Just a few thing on my first test run. Games parameter seems to only support up to a max of 3 {{Abb}}. Infobox size can be exceeded by placing an image in the footer with a px size greater than the infobox size. Mutant's Rising[edit source]

Hello my friend ;)

I re-closed the discussion in the forum of "Mutant's Rising" since the discussion is over, it's about something not covered by the Vault and the author has withdrawn his proposal.

If anyone want to talk about Mutant's Rising in the future, he can create a topic in the "Off-topic discussion" forum or go to the Fallout moddings wiki Vault-Tec Labs. Sorry, it's just that I like things to be clean but if you have a particular reason to re-open it, no problem of course =). Itachou [~talk~] 19:39, August 6, 2011 (UTC)

No, a wiki already exist for Fallout mods, it would be pointless and disrespectful to create a "second" (I didn't think that you didn't know about it).
In addition, the primary function of a game Wiki it's to talk only about official content, it's the golden rules, it's one of the things that the community has nothing to say about it. If someone want to talk about other things, he can creates a new wiki or go to a specific wiki about what he want =). So it's useless to give an opinion on something that will never be covered by the Vault, if people want to talk about unofficial content like Mutant's Rising, Nuka Break, FOnline etc., he can go on No Mutants Allowed, Duck and Cover, Vault-Tec Labs for mods or on the off-topic forum here created for this.
Sorry if this seems aggressive but this is not the case ;). Have a nice evening and see you soon Porter! Itachou [~talk~] 16:53, August 7, 2011 (UTC)

You talk about the exceptions to the golden rule, almost all wiki (small and large) doesn't cover the unofficial content like for the large (90000-6000): WoWWiki, EQ2i, FFXIclopedia, Wookieepedia, Memory Alpha, GuildWars Wikia, RuneScape Wiki, Halo Nation, Dragon Age Wiki etc.

WoWWiki has only a page about interface Add-ons. UESPWiki on the Elder Scrolls series I'm follow since Daggerfall only cover just a few mods (majority of graphical mods) but that's all - they are not take into account in pages, and Jax and Daxter wiki is a small wiki with only 1000 pages. Anyway, a Fallout mods wiki already exist for Fallout, so the question doesn't arise. If anyone want to contribute for a mod, he can go in Vault-Tec Labs. Wiki are not simple toy, it's an investment of passion and time, Dude101 created this Wiki for people who want to talk about that, we should respect that he has built.

But I see that it's not this that bothers you. Sorry but you have wrong, I'm very open to many things and with a neutral view to let people talk to each other but here, regardless of my opinion, I lock the topic for two things:

  • It's a proposal about something wich was never accepted by the Vault since a wiki about that already exist, but especially
  • The author has withdrawn his proposal
  • Future message were off the subject and off the purpose of the forum "Wiki discussion"

The question was whether yes or not we can cover Mutant's Rising. Given that there is already Vault-Tec Labs for this, it will not be the case and the author (Guardian) has withdraw his proposal. So, if the author has withdraw his question, the discussion is close, all message after are off the subject, and off issue is not a good thing, especially if it can be prevented. So if someone wants to make the same proposal which will of course also refused since there is Vault-Tec Labs for that, he can do and of course everyone can talk about almost anything (like mods), but in a new thread =), and not in the "Wiki discussion" forum for talk (since this is not about the Vault) but in the "Off-topic forum", which is also one of the reasons cited above for the lock. Itachou [~talk~] 12:27, August 9, 2011 (UTC)

Special:RecentChanges[edit source]

Can you take a look at Special:RecentChanges, the auto refresh tick box has gone since they changed it to a admin dashboard. It still shows for non-admin, but not for admins. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 20:02, August 10, 2011 (UTC)

Yes, it's annoying. And the Recent changes edits are spread just over 2/3rd of the page. I liked the previous layout a lot better (whole width of the screen). The stats are now in the way. Also, the recent changes screen is missing the tabpage link to Fallout: New Vegas. I kinda liked that one too. JspoelJspoel Vault Boy.png 20:59, August 10, 2011 (UTC)
Hey Porter, thanks for fixing recent changes, auto-refresh (positioned just fine), wide screen, and even my Fallout: New Vegas tab-page is back. Couldn't be better. Saves me 3 weeks of annoyance.

Chat Mods[edit source]

Hello, Porter. Hope you're enjoying your break. Anyways, I recently asked Ghost to make User:EB683 a chat mod, as I'm starting back to school, and my availability will be going down the drain. He assigned him the rights, but wanted me to leave you a message so you could confirm it on your return. EB was designated one of the official backups in the vote, and he is available the same times I am (or was), so he seems the best choice. Hopefully this is OK with you. BILLYOCEAN 01:12, August 17, 2011 (UTC)

We need another chat moderator or another admin[edit source]

Hi there Porter i know your on holidays and all but i just wanted to leave a message. Of a night time (AEST- Australia Eastern Standard Time) we lose all admins (aside from Ghost Avatar Bot) and we hardly have any chat mods on of a night, usually its EB or Yes Man but they cant keep an eye out on the wiki all the time, EB said he is busy during week days and so he is hardly on and yes man cant be on all the time, he usually leaves to have a break and will be on for some hrs before calling it a night. I come before you to ask if either i can some how gain Chat rights for the Australian Eastern Standard Timezone or if someone else can become an admin, please think this over because the other chat moderators are on of a day and the other aussie moderator butterfly kiss is on mainly of a day and hardly of a night. Aaaaa.jpgThe Netherealm awaits for you 09:32, August 28, 2011 (UTC)

New Template[edit source]

Hi Porter, I added a new template whilst you were gone and I just wanted to okay it with you, it works the same as the image needed ones, but it is for the pages icons, so for weapons, armours, misc and so on. Thought I should let you know as you are the King of the templates ;). TheGuardianCalligraphy.pngGuardianoftheWastesTag.png.

ArchiveTool. Yes, again . . .[edit source]

Hiya :) I hate to be back on your talk page for ArchiveTool stuff, especially as you're enjoying a break, but it seems that the new user page masthead has somehow bumped the tool from the dropdown menu. This issue is only on user talk pages; all other odd-numbered namespaces are unaffected. My guess is that somehow the name of the button on the user talk page has changed, but I haven't dug into the code as of yet. Thought I'd give you a heads up, just in case I haven't found a solution by the time you return from vacation. czechout    17:14:31 Fri 19 Aug 2011

Oh, you know what? I totally forgot to come back here and leave a message. It was actually working again prior to your fixes today. Those fixes made the tool again disappear, so I reverted to my last known good version. Sorry for forgetting to drop back by. czechout    00:48:18 Tue 06 Sep 2011

Templates[edit source]

Just to let you know, I have made some modifications to a few templates. I have added a link mode to {{abb}}. This was to solve the issue with {{Gamearticlelist}} and {{Infobox person}}, where it was using the default text to create the link and short mode to display the name. I have also adjusted those 2 templates to now use link mode to create the link and short mode for the displayed name. Examples, Joshua Sawyer now links to Old World Blues (add-on) instead of Old World Blues in the infobox for games. And Hologram now links to Point Lookout (add-on) instead of Point Lookout in the overview box for the games. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 18:08, August 23, 2011 (UTC)

Welcome back[edit source]

Welcome back, Porter, how was your brother's wedding? Already back to business I see, even added something for me. Can you take a look at the blog double redirects, doesn't give me permission. And if you could use some help with adding the map marker images once you're ready to change it, I'd be glad to help. For the rest, not too much trouble on the homefront, things are going steady. Although the editing has decreased significantly since the schools have begun again. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 18:03, September 5, 2011 (UTC)

Mutants Rising[edit source]

Hello my friend =)

You go back on an old discussion I saw ;). Anyway, for that you are right it's true. Ho also welcome back! Me I'm not in The Vault for now but on the Deus Ex Wiki for improve it, need a lot of works.

I expect the help of Ausir for templates but I think the staff member of Wikia doesn't spread the words or Ausir has not taken the time to contact me on this subject. Well, nice evening and see you soon Porter! Itachou [~talk~] 23:53, September 5, 2011 (UTC)

Icon needed[edit source]

Hi again Porter :). Okay, that seems fair to me. I think that it will become used if people see it on the weapon and armour pages of the new LR and GRA items, but as you said we will have to see if people pick it up. Thanks for keeping it for now though. Welcome back by the way :). TheGuardianCalligraphy.pngGuardianoftheWastesTag.png

Songs[edit source]

Hello Porter. As I recall, you're the most knowledgeable about infoboxes, so I was wondering it were at all possible to develop an infobox for songs in the Fallout series. There are plenty of articles out there, but they sort of convey the song information differently. I think an infobox would greatly make page navigation easier. Get back to me whenever you can and let me know your thoughts. --Kastera (talk) 23:11, September 14, 2011 (UTC)

Thank you so much. I'll make sure you get creditted, but Ausir suggested we import some of those from here and adapt them, which is well within my capabilites, but I wasn't sure what this was. Maybe one day I could be your apprentice ;). Until then, thanks again Porter. My profile pageCome and say hello

Chat's malfunctioning[edit source]

The chat refuses to work, and has been acting strangely for days. Problem is that only some comments are visible for me, are haphazardly placed, my messages refuse to work, and the sidebar which shows attendance only shows random users there, and stills show them after they leave. I cannot interact with any user through the sidebar either, so banning is unpossible. This is quite the dilemma, and I know I'm not alone. It's annoying on a personal level, yes, but as I cannot ban mischievous users, nor warn them for that matter, this might require fixing. Caravan card images[edit source]

Hello Porter21,

I was just curious if it would at all be possible to receive the images of all the caravan cards. I want to program a separate version of caravan and use the actual images of the cards from the game. The wiki is the only place I've found the full set. Send me an email if you get a chance:

Unfortunately, I don't have the images saved on my PC anymore. I guess your best option is downloading them from the wiki. -- Porter21 (talk) 11:08, October 4, 2011 (UTC)

Archived talkpages[edit source]

Porter, for some time now Avatar and I have been reducing the wanted pages. We stumbled upon a problem with archived talkpages showing up as wanted pages. See my talkpage and Avatar's. Can you fix this? Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 11:15, October 6, 2011 (UTC)

  • Allright, thanks for the explanation.
I found this, I don't know if it might help at all. Supposed to work the same as #ifexists, but doesn't create a wanted link User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 14:57, October 7, 2011 (UTC)
Also found this, although I have a feeling this is a long shot and there might be an issue using this method. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 18:48, October 8, 2011 (UTC)

Semantic MediaWiki[edit source]

Hi there Porter, I see you've been making a new Infobox code. One thing with the code is that you need to repeat things multiple times (label1, label2, etc). Have you ever tried using Sematnic Forms to make this easier? If you look on wikia:spore:Template:Infobox, just using the #arraymap: makes the code more simple.--Technobliterator 12:14, October 9, 2011 (UTC)

Journal entries on quests pages[edit source]

Porter, I discovered a problem with updating the infobox on quest pages! It replaces desc with image desc and the entries can no longer be seen. Can you take a look at it?

  • Now I see the bot is already correcting it.
  • Allright, thanks for letting me know. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 15:41, October 9, 2011 (UTC)
  • Not sure it's much of an issue, but when I click on upload image in an empty infobox (for example FNV quest page) and later on decide not to upload the image, the color of the 'upload image' text changes from yellow into dark blue, making it almost unreadable. Thought I'd let you know.Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 17:16, October 9, 2011 (UTC)

Challenge infobox[edit source]

I know you're a busy man, but when you find the time, can you take a look at this forum thread (maybe you've already seen it). At the moment Challenges pages use the perk infobox template. Thought it would be a good idea to make a challenge infobox template. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 16:34, October 9, 2011 (UTC)

  • Great! Actreal will be happy too.
    • He sure will. :D --Actreal 22:57, October 10, 2011 (UTC)
  • You did that quick! Just two edits.
I noticed a few things. At the copy/paste example, name is missing. And you changed some name descriptions right? benefit1 has become reward and require1 has become task. That's good for me. I think you forgot to add ranks? It was being used with the old template. I That's what I'm seeing for the moment. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 23:29, October 10, 2011 (UTC)
    • Now I see you didn't add name on purpose, because it isn't required. And I noticed that the 'empty' text on the image parameter line is not needed anymore when there's no image. Adding 'empty' even results in a error message now. That's also intentional I presume.

The example on the template page has a supertitle linking to the non-existent page "Honest Hearts challenges". Is it possible to make it automatically link to Fallout: New Vegas challenges#Honest Hearts challenges instead? --Actreal 23:03, October 10, 2011 (UTC)

  • You linked this through, still the Honest Hearts example on the challenge template page shows up red and wants to create a page. How is this possible? And how are you going to separate the perk pages infobox update from the challenge pages infobox update? They both use the perk template. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 10:57, October 11, 2011 (UTC)

Infobox achievement[edit source]

In Chrome only, the '3' for PlayStation 3 is creating a double line and unneeded white space to the box (see Dead Money). IE and FF and perfectly fine in displaying this, it might be a CSS box model issue. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 20:15, October 9, 2011 (UTC)

Only solutions I can think of, is either a no-wrap element or even a no-break space just for this case, or reduce the padding by 1px on the left or right side of the cell. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 21:44, October 9, 2011 (UTC)

Infobox game[edit source]

Seems it is case sensitive, dont know if that is really an issue - but may require a bot to decap the parameters for infoboxs. I only noticed when I looked at the unused images and saw the wasteland cover art as being unused. Checked out the page and it was already added in the code, but didn't display when used with 'Image =image.jpg' instead of 'image =image.jpg'. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 19:33, October 10, 2011 (UTC)

Well, to be honest. My bot is also geared to decap the infobox parameters I have coded into it as well, I only did it for uniformity - but what it has done so far, should reduce this on pages I have been editing with it. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 20:10, October 10, 2011 (UTC)

Itachou[edit source]

Brace yourself for some bad news for the Fallout wiki (good news for Itachou personally though). He's leaving The Vault from editing. He has higher priorities in life now (see my talkpage). I'm sad to see him and his quality edits go. Always a cheerful and friendly person. We'll miss him here.

Concerning the challenge pages, I'm working my way through it, making good progress. Can you add the formid to the achievement and trophy template? Thought might as well include that. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 19:27, October 11, 2011 (UTC)

  • Achievement challenge example.png

I found this example in the GECK. It's listed in the GECK as a challenge, on the wiki it's an achievement. Still, it has a form id.

Challenges[edit source]

I did New Vegas Samurai. Think that's what you mean right? Btw, it appears the icon size parameter doesn't work. Tried it with New Vegas Samurai and it stays small. Moved the icon to image, then used the image size parameter. Nice color you added to the admin header and also some article management work (delete, rename etc.)! Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 14:22, October 12, 2011 (UTC)

  • Can you take a look at this mail I received? Looks like some documentation still needs to be updated.

Infobox[edit source]

It will be possible to create infobox for example infobox faction without screen or button "upload image"? I mean, if I now write "empty" there is still button, what looks badly. : ( Anyway, great work with this improvements.

Infobox creature[edit source]

Yep, that was what was pretty much agreed upon during the discussion of the layout. From what I have seen of creature pages, only these 2 are actually in use as well. But since robots also use the same template, it might be an idea to keep affiliations for some cases where it is in use. Other than that I cant see to much use for the others, but I am not to familiar with the pages for the older games e.g. FOBOS etc. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 12:24, October 16, 2011 (UTC)

Capitalization[edit source]

Question, is there a exact reason for not capitalizing the first letter of any of the words in the left column of an infobox? (Note, just the very first, ie; Used by and not Used By) --Light Daxter - Talk 13:15, October 16, 2011 (UTC)

Need some help on these requirments[edit source]

Hi Porter just wondering, does the chat moderator and moderator share the same requirements?, i am aware that the requirments for a moderator is 500 edits and 2 months of activity but does that count for chat moderators as well or do the chat mods have a diffrent set of requirments?. Moderator/Rollback[edit source]

Hi, I saw your comment on my moderator request form. I've thought about it, and maybe it's just best that I apply for rollback status as it seems I haven't met the requirements for a moderator. How do I go about doing that? Thanks, HighFiveBearLeft.pngHighFiveBearRight.png 13:49, October 17, 2011 (UTC)

Thank you, that would be awesome if you could check on that.

HighFiveBearLeft.pngHighFiveBearRight.png 21:38, October 17, 2011 (UTC)

I mean I just wish the moderator position wasn't so chat based, and if it is going to be, it should say on the requirements:P

Moderators[edit source]

Personally I would just give them to the actual moderators. Ausir(talk) 14:59, October 17, 2011 (UTC)

Thats what I thought when the rank was made, the issue needs to be cleared up. Those with chat mod statues already (but not a mod) also need to be addressed. Users with just rollback rights honestly don't bother me. Rollback doesn't actually give anyone anything they cant do on a normal account, it just saves them 2 extra clicks of the mouse. I honestly thing we need an (by appointment only, to save all the voting and waiting) position for those users and add in the patrol rights. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 16:45, October 17, 2011 (UTC)

World object template[edit source]

Hey Porter; nice to see you back. I was having a bit of trouble with the Howitzer page. As you can see, the image takes up way to much room, but when I attempted to resize it with the |px parameter, it didn't work. Could this have anything to do with your new infobox design? --Kastera (talk) 22:56, October 17, 2011 (UTC)

Never mind, Jspoel made it |image size rather than |px. Crisis averted. :P
I thought the infobox wasn't supposed to able to be oversized by images? User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 23:36, October 17, 2011 (UTC)
I think that is going to be the best solution for those images. As for the gallery style grad, a grid would be more beneficial to the reader (who dont know about clicking on the actual image to expand the view), as many pictures in a line can get rather small with the exponential reduction in size. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 14:26, October 18, 2011 (UTC)

Infobox weapon[edit source]

Hello, Porter. I've noticed an issue with Infobox weapon.

On the page Flamethrower (Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel) there are two images: Flamethrower FalloutBOS.gif and Flamethrower FalloutBOS.png.

Currently PNG is in the gallery but if I try to add it as a main picture in the infobox, the image goes there in its actual size (699 × 612 pixels).

Can you please see what can be done. Thanks! :) veryblackraven 07:22, October 18, 2011 (UTC)

User page redirects[edit source]

The ones I deleted wasnt from a rename. The account was renamed from 'The nemisisx' to 'The Nemisisx'. The one I deleted was 'The nemesisx', which was a redirect put in place by the user, causing a double redirect from the recent user rename. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 14:18, October 18, 2011 (UTC)

Just an FYI, my bot removes this section on any page that contains the respective infobox (Infobox ammunition|Infobox armor gamebryo|Infobox weapon gamebryo|Infobox consumable|Infobox item). So any additions will eventually get removed. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 11:26, October 20, 2011 (UTC)

Porter, why have you deleted it? It was really heavily used when LR, GRA and CS came out. I saw it on nearly every page after GRA was released, and I didn't even really add it myself... Armor page conversion[edit source]

Noticed the armor pages have gotten the new look. Is it possible the images use a little more of the infobox?. There's unused space above the head (has probably to do with the icon). Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 16:27, October 23, 2011 (UTC)

  • It looks better now. I'm happy with it. Good work on all the infobox templates. Don't now what we'd do without you. Guess use old-fashioned templates, like on my wiki. Any chance you'd help me a bit with that in the future? Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 16:51, October 23, 2011 (UTC)
  • Hey thanks, I'll sure keep that in mind!

Infobox weapon gamebryo[edit source]

You are not going to like it, but a lot of people are pushing for things like weapons mods etc. to be added to the infobox. And show the modified stats the same way perks currently does. I keep getting people asking if this or that can be added.

I was going to wait until after the infobox project was done, then open up a forum post on the subject. Asking if perks should remain and we add the rest of the modifiers that affect weapon stats. Or, move them all out of the infobox and create a new section and template in page. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 16:58, October 23, 2011 (UTC)

With the amount people request or want to keep adding (just had a look through some of the requests, they want perks that affect carry weight, crit damage and so on also), I am defiantly in favour of a separate template, for the simple fact that the infobox would end up being longer than any page content (even on the biggest weapons pages). Just need to figure a layout to put forward that will accommodate the info, but not clash with the infobox on pages with little content. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 23:42, October 23, 2011 (UTC)

Weapon mod images[edit source]

Jspoel just brought up the same issue I did with the icon image overlaying the main image. So I have made a modification to {{Infobox item}} template, to allow the overriding of the default 15px offset of the icon. If this is ok, can you also let Jspoel know as well, since I left them am message no to use it in other cases (other than the example he brought to my attension) until you give the go ahead. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 19:46, October 24, 2011 (UTC)

Hmm, offsetting the bottom as well would balance the image within the infobox. But, I don't think you would need it to be the same value as the upper one, you might be able to get away with half the value of the upper offset for the lower offset.
