Vault-Tec bobbleheads are Vault-Tec Industries promotional statuettes and Bethesda Game Studios products, appearing in Fallout 3, Fallout 4 and Fallout 76.

Background

These rare collectibles are a pre-War decorative item, available to executive-level employees for purchase[1] and likely to a limited pool of consumers outside the corporation, specifically those who brought in their acceptance letter to a representative.[2] After the war, their rarity increased even further, with only twenty unique bobbleheads (a single edition) that can be found across the entire Capital Wasteland, twenty one in the Commonwealth, and randomly scattered about Appalachia.

Vault-Tec also commissioned the creation of custom displays for the bobbleheads. Each stand has space for twenty bobbleheads, one of each type, arranged for each statistic and skill in three rows. Only two stands are confirmed as surviving: One in a house in Megaton and another in a pre-War Tenpenny Tower Suite.

  • In the Vault-Tec Headquarters, there is a terminal at which employees before the war could get bobbleheads for a deduction from their paycheck. However, by 2277, the bobbleheads have run out of stock. Furthermore, the terminal also says that bobbleheads can only be bought by executives.

Behind the scenes

  • The bobbleheads were also used as a Fallout 3 promotional item by Bethesda Softworks, included in the Collector's Edition of the game. They have a generic standing-with-arms-folded pose. A second version of the bobblehead, resembling the Charisma bobblehead was given away in limited quantities at press events prior to the launch of the game. They later became purchasable from the Bethesda website in a wide array of models. See Fallout 3 promotional items for more information.
