Welcome back

Good to see you back :)  The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 17:53, March 3, 2013 (UTC)

Theo

It was definitely going to end with him gaining those rights. I was rather looking forward to him proving me a fool after winning by showing the traits that I was seeing as lacking. Thanks for your input. I know I can be a bit overwhelming at times. Although, I do wish he could have handled the criticism a bit better. Have fun with Fallout 3! I just recently got New Vegas through Steam so I could finally play with mods, and I'm absolutely loving it. As soon as I'm finished, I'll be moving on to Fallout 3, too. Alliance

The vote was over and the only option gaining minimum requirements was the Sci-fi alliance. I put in the request to join it. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 19:00, March 16, 2013 (UTC)

I think we'd better come up with some kind of criteria for affiliate wikis. I'm sure tons of wikis would line up to be listed on our main page, mine one of them. we've got links to the sister wikis, both language and game type, but only that one affiliate wiki. I reckon I'll open a forum to discuss what the criteria should be and what the process should be to be named affiliate. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 01:16, March 17, 2013 (UTC)

Votes

This will be a circulating message to all users that expressed their opinions over my recent discussion and vote. Please make sure to update your votes accordingly to this new information:

  • Info-box Mk.II - For those of you wanting to see an example first, an example for how the changes will look (Keep in mind that this example is in its most basic form.) can now be found here. If a positive community consensus is reached, the new design will become functional here and the community can decide from there whether the final design is appropriate or not on Nukapedia.
  • JunkRadio - I would like to share a quote from the JunkRadio designer himself: I was thinking of adding it to the top left or bottom left corner of the wiki. I can give it absolute positioning, which means that it will display on the top left, regardless of screen resolutions. If necessary, I can make it scroll down with the page as well, although this might distract users from reading the actual pages. - Mark van Alphen
    • Thank you for reading, and I'll be looking forward to gathering everyone's final opinion over these new changes. Due to the overwhelming support so far for all three changes, only needing minor points to update them for clarity, the vote will continue as normal, and will end on the 23rd as scheduled. If you would like to dispute this, please leave your concerns and reasons behind them over my talk-page. Happy editing! ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 17:03, March 20, 2013 (UTC)

Request

It's okay - real life comes first, and we're just glad to hear that you're well enough to pop back in here from time to time. Anyways, onto your actual question: the controversial ban was over Gunner linking 'porn' within our chat room. I joined chat shortly before and after this happened, so the way I saw it, it went a little bit like this:

  • Talk over Amanda Todd started. This conversation has been on/off ever since the news broke over her suicide.
  • A heated debate started up over whether she deserved what had happened to her, and whether or not suicide is a viable option in any given situation.
  • At this point, the debate was taking up the chat as the primary topic, and many users were asking who this Amanda Todd even was.
  • Gunner was involved at this point, and was getting a bit too involved in the topic. To the point that when a user directly asked him who Amanda Todd was, he linked the first page that he could find over her. Which happened to show the nude picture of Amanda Todd that started the whole mess behind her suicide.
  • Gunner was eventually banned for linking to child pornography.
    • No, this ban did not happen when he had temporary chat mod rights.

ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 19:30, March 28, 2013 (UTC)

Oh, no, I absolutely agree with that, as does DG. What he did was wrong and illegal over Wikia, and he's suffered for his mistake with a ban and his first botched request attempt. What I meant by blown out of proportion is that he's still hounded over it when he he hasn't done anything similar for quite some time, and has shown to have a lot better judgment than what he had shown that day. Aside from this blackmail detail - but I'm still not basing my vote around it as everything presented over it has been vague or mere hearsay. Forum discussion

Hello Clyde. This is a message I will be rotating among Nukapedia's sysops and regular contributors. I would like your input on this forum. In an attempt to remove redundancy and confusion, I have proposed some tweaks to user rights, including the elimination of the moderator position. Thanks for your time, and let me know if you have any questions. FollowersApocalypseLogonihil novi sub sole 09:20, March 31, 2013 (UTC)

User rights thread

Forwarding this from Gunny's talkpage

Follower's working on a proposal that removes the moderator request. I'm sure you're aware of it. This also made me consider re-evaluating the admin requirement. What do you think of raising that to 1,250 main namespace edits? I've heard people (especially admins) are setting their standards higher and higher before voting yes on admin's requests. We've noticed it with Theo. And another thing Hal10k and KristofferAG are long eligible for removal of rights. I suggest we do that. They are inactive for more than a year. At the moment the inactive period for removal of rights is 9 months. What do you say we suggest upping that to a year? I think 9 months is too short after all. And then we have GhostAvatar. What do we do about him? I suggest we contact him in a while what his plans are. In any case, we should not remove his rights after 9 months in my opinion. That's too soon. A year, then ask Wikia to remove it, if he decides not to return or not answer our mail. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 19:18, April 5, 2013 (UTC)

Notices tab

Clyde, I'm not sure if you might remember this or not, but before Gav left, we were working on some javascript to add a "Notices" tab to user pages. Here's what it was all about:

  • It would be placed next to "contributions" on each user's page that only admins, chat mods and patrollers would see.
  • It would link to a special page where official warnings and notices were to be placed.
  • It would only be editable by admins, chat mods and patrollers.
  • It was intended to replace the "No deleting talk page messages rule" by having a place where all official notifications could be permanently stored in an easy to find place.

Upsides:

  • All official notices will be on one page, easy to find.
  • No need for the controversial "No deleting talk page messages" rule.
  • It's hidden and only accessible to admins, chat mods and patrollers.

Downsides:

  • Anyone can see the edits in RC, and if you type in the url, you can read the notices. They won't be able to edit it, but they will be able to read it.
  • It would require the admin, chat mod or patroller to leave a message on the user's talk page so the user can get the alert and read the message, and then they would have to copy the same message to the notices page for permanent storage.

I've tested the script and it's ready to test on a wider basis. You can do this by copying the script into your own common.js, if you'd like. I would like to proceed with testing this along these lines:

  1. Have you and Js, and any admins who are interested in looking at it test it in their own .js.
  2. Move it into the site .js for a site-wide test.
  3. Bring up discussion after testing is complete to see if the community wants to revoke the talk page rule and move to this method.

Let me know when/if you want to move forward with this. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 01:50, April 8, 2013 (UTC)

Auto refresh

There's a checkbox right next to where it says "Admin Dashboard", labeled auto-refresh. Make sure the box is checked. I've stopped using it because of the lag when the script runs the refresh, but I just checked it and it seems to be working. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 19:39, April 30, 2013 (UTC)

I think it's a javascript that makes it refresh automatically. Try MediaWiki:Common.js, search for automatic and you will have found it. Add that part to the common.js over at the WWII wiki. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 22:28, April 30, 2013 (UTC)

CSS to look at

Hey, Clyde, I had a suggestion from User:Pecoes to add a slightly different hue every other line on long tables to break up the look and make them less a strain to read. I've applied his fix as a separate class, va-table-shaded to look at it. You can see it on Fallout:_New_Vegas_perks, one of the pages he sited as a problem. We can't use it on all tables, since it will interfere with highlighting (e.g. Fallout 3 weapons), but I thought we'd look at it and see what we thought. Let me know if you think it helps or hurts table reading. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 00:56, May 8, 2013 (UTC)

User rights removal

Howdy, Clyde. The user rights removal process says:"In the event that an administrator or moderator has been inactive for an extended period of time, they will have their user rights removed by the bureaucrats and restored by a community vote upon a return to constructive editing." What we've been doing is leaving a message on the person's talk page to ask their intentions. The rule doesn't really leave us that wiggle room, it just says their rights will be removed. How should we handle this when we leave the message after a user has been inactive for 9 months, yet they say they intend to still use their rights? Does leaving the return message count as an "edit", resetting the clock for another 9 months? Or should we just enforce the letter of the rule and remove the rights without asking their intentions? I'm also leaving this for Js. Let me know what you think. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 17:52, May 12, 2013 (UTC)

Clyde, I base my opinion on you not being here all the time not just based on chat, but how often I see your name come up in the recent changes. I dont consider me adding a news item based an event that happened 20 odd hours ago a crisis that demands the attention of 3 bureaucrats, instead I wanted to discuss the situation with a couple of members of the admin team I've worked reasonably closely with and who I often sound out things with. I'm sorry if this offends you.

Chat logs sent.  The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 20:23, May 17, 2013 (UTC)

Clyde the "game" I am tired of goes directly to your "Fitness" comment. it seems anytime anyone gets into anything more than a minor disagreement with you this comes up, on occasion leading you threatening to quit. That game I am not playing - Lead, Follow, get out of the way, the choice is yours but I am not playing.

I talk to Gunny fairly frequently because I value his advice - as a person and as a fellow member of the admin team. I think we have a pretty good working relationship. When it comes to inter-user issues I especially value his input, and he has on occasion been able to calm me down when I'm off on a crusade - IIRC we talked about this kind of stuff before he wore that hat - I trust him to be able to tell me I'm going too far - this doesn't come from his bureaucrat title.

J I often sound out about advice on wiki matters to - again not as a bureaucrat but as a fellow admin who I know is good for advice. I know J reads my news, often corrects and comments on it. I value his opinion as a person who I have worked with, and as a fellow admin as to what should go there. I trust his judgement there as an individual - this doesn't come from his bureaucrat title.

You need to stop taking this sort of stuff and personalising it. This song isn't about you, it isn't a royal snub. I wanted advice from two people I trust to give me that advice. That they happen to be Bureaucrats is completely secondary.

If you want that kind of relationship with me, where I go to you for advice on something, without your bureaucrat hat on, you'll need to work on that with me; not just simply demand it. Agent c (talk) 20:49, May 17, 2013 (UTC)

Clyde, I wasn't referring to when you stepped back for those health reasons. I'm talking about all those times last year when you threatened to leave after having an argument. As for you being notified about it, I was notified after the fact. There were admins, chatmods, and a bureaucrat in chat. Go take it up with them.

As for what is one more page? TBH I don't consider me trying do decide if I'm going to run something in the news about an event that happened 20 hours ago something that needs to be widely circulated. There were two specific people who I wanted advice from, so I sought them. I didn't copy in a lot of other people either. Agent c (talk) 21:28, May 17, 2013 (UTC)

Infobox errors

Probably you can't respond, but to keep you informed, did you notice we have an infobox error where images are messing up the infobox? Something went wrong with Wednesday's update. Wikia is taking a look it at, but they say it's complex problem because of the complicated infobox template we use. I want to give it some more time, and contact Wikia tomorrow on the progress. Ok, the images that are over 240px are sized down again, but now we have a problem with images smaller than 240px. Making an edit on these pages (primarily older games) displays the image in 240px, while the original is smaller. Try Home-made rifle for example. So the problem has moved. Skill navbox

FOBOS has a skill navbox, but here the skills work like perks, not skills. You can read in on the FOBOS skills page. So many points and you can pick a certain skill (or perk). The other games' skills derive from other stats and skillbooks, a different system. You can't really use a navbox for that. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 21:42, May 31, 2013 (UTC)

Infobox errors

I was adding crit damage perk effects to the {{Infobox weapon gamebryo}} when I realized that the math showing the total effect of all perks on the modified stats (the ones shown in parenthesis labeled "with all perks") is incorrect. Here's the jist:

Weapon Base damage
.357 magnum revolver 26
Perk Multiplier
Cowboy perk +25% x1.25
Lord Death (tier 3) +4% x1.04
Bloody Mess +5% x1.05
Thought you died +10% x1.1
Current infobox formula Total dam w/all perks
26+(26*.25)+(26*.04)+(26*.05)+(26*.1) 37.2
Correct formula Total dam w/all perks
26*1.25*1.04*1.05*1.1 39.04

The infobox is written so that it adds the individual perk bonuses to the base damage, when the game actually multiplies all the perk bonuses times the base damage. I've tested this in the past. I've completely deconstructed the whole damage formula (you can see it here) and have actually written a damage calculator that outputs any weapon's damage given any combination of gameplay effects (perks, ammo, mods, chems, etc.). During testing of my calculator, I verified that all the perks "stack", or multiply together.

I also believe that other perk types like reload speed, etc. also multiply in the same way. I will test those to be certain, I'll probably have to re-write the entire perk section of the infobox. I will work it in my sandbox to correct the math so that it uses the proper formulas. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 01:02, June 5, 2013 (UTC)

Sides to all issues

Geck has its place. It can be fun. Still if you can not meet the person spoken of then it would make a weak page.

  • This dramma has had more impact than that lame mention from a terminal at the school ever would.

I understand he is not an annon & I have even embraced the warm fuzzy of annons are people to ~;P

Folks who spend time with me here get the fact that I neither mean harm or even sport for a fight.

The page is just weak unworthy. Do I really need to look up the pages I worked on for months... The lovers Marks I searched for day after day when Dead Money came out.

  • That is a now just a tag on to hollow rocks.

I am just say'n his post, that guy made is not page worthy.. 99.9% of his posts might fart sunshine & lolly pops.

However the page we speak of is better reverted to a note on the terminal of the Springvale school.

It is trivial. The character never appears in the game unless the player uses a code to them. .. It is a foot note & that is all.

I was merely following guidelines. His first ban was for 3 days by Gunny. His second ban earned him a week. And I actually deviated a bit with his third ban, and only made it two weeks instead of the month I should have given him. I recommend reinstating the 1-week ban at minimum. This user has been a disruption ever since his account was globally banned. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 07:02, July 31, 2013 (UTC)

Werewolf

Nitty's ban was removed by Itachou for being unwarranted and being made in retaliation due to off-wiki events. Then, when Nitty came in long after and made another ban even though Werewolf hadn't made a single edit in over two months. That's why the ban was lifted. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 07:04, July 31, 2013 (UTC)

I know. I've been here for a long time, and I'm quite familiar with Werewolf. I remember him being banned for words being exchanged on the Eleventy wiki, and like I said, Werewolf was banned long after even though he hadn't made an edit in over two months. But I doubt he's coming back, and it's been so long since that's happened that no one involved is even around anymore. So I'll just let that one go. Colour Palette

Due to the lack of community feedback involved with the style switcher feature I've recently proposed, in stark contrast to the high popularity it has received for making a presence here at Nukapedia, I would like to take this chance to ask the Bureaucrats to discuss and decide upon the 3 different colour blends we'd be using should the feature pass in the community vote. Right now, it appears that the green/brownish-gold blend used as Example 2 in my forum is decently liked. I'll be looking forward to what you guys comes up with, and I'll have the community vote thrown up as soon as we get our choices in. Thanks in advance.
