Drama Summary[]

Fred Fisher is a young Pioneer Scout who, after an unexpected fall, finds himself in a dark pit. When he regains consciousness, he calls out for his friends and scoutmaster, but none of them answer. However, a young girl replies, though Fred cannot see her. The girl, Sally, introduces herself to Fred. When Fred introduces himself, Sally asks whether he had gotten lost, just like her. Fred then recounts how he had come to end up in the pit. He had been camping with his scout troop by a lake near Flatwoods when he noticed strange lights in the sky. Fred's fellow Pioneer Scouts dared him to go look, which he did; Sally compliments Fred on his bravery.

Continuing, Fred says he followed the sounds to the entrance of an old mine. A bright light then immediately shone down on him. He was frightened and went to hide, but then felt a strange experience "like [his] feet weren't touching the ground" and passed out until he woke up in the present moment. Sally mentions having a similar experience. She suggests that they stay put and hints that there are other people nearby, to Fred's confusion.

Sound of water dripping

Fred: Uh! Where am I? Jack? Biff? Mr. Bailey? Can anyone hear me?

Girl's voice: I can hear you!

Fred: Who's there? I-I can't see you.

Girl's voice: It's me! My name's Sally, what's yours?

Fred: Fred.

Sally: Are you okay, Fred?

Fred: I think so. My head's a little woozy, must have hit it when I fell.

Sally: Oh no! Did you get lost, too?

Fred: Well, sort of. What I mean is...

Eerie music starts

Fred: That I was camping with my Scout troop by the lake near Flatwoods. There were these lights kinda dancing in the sky.

Sally: Neat!

Fred: I guess. Anyway, we heard some weird noises and the guys double dog dared me to go look, so I did.

Sally: All by yourself? You're really brave.

Fred: Shucks, thanks. I followed the noises to an entrance of an old mine. It smelled awful there like rotten eggs, but worse. Suddenly there was this bright light shining down on me. I was super scared and ran to the mine to hide, but everything felt strange like my feet weren't even touching the ground. Everything went black and I woke up here in the dark.

Sally: That all happened to me, too! We'll just do what my dad says, "When you strayed or lost foot, do what's best and stay put!" They said they'd bring him soon.

Fred: There are other people here?
