Is this seriously a trait

This is seriously a trait. Go to hell if you don't like it, because this is what real Fallout is; black humor and lots of fun. Nitty Tok. 20:09, October 3, 2010 (UTC)

Hear hear Nitty! Well said.JASPER//"Do you like hurting other people?"UserRichard 20:15, October 3, 2010 (UTC)

I think it be cool (though impossible) to find and destroy the master again if you have the wild wasteland perk, it would be EPIC! that or a friendly talking deathclaw to converse with out there.—Preceding comment was unsigned. Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

The point of the perk is JOKES! How in any way would finding and killing teh master be a joke?JASPER//"Do you like hurting other people?"UserRichard 18:26, October 4, 2010 (UTC) because he's already dead, Andrew-108 22:32, October 4, 2010 (UTC)

You could get an acheivement saying "and they say it was hard...* for killing the master again

who is the master?--Silverfox6000 19:41, October 12, 2010 (UTC)

As in the Master from the original Fallout Silverfox6000. Wyrmalla 19:46, October 12, 2010 (UTC)

Is the information on http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/YCS/186_Gauss_rifle accurate? That this trait supposedly makes getting the unique weapon impossible?

I'm guessing we should expect at least a start on a list of alterations later in the week? Wester 17:46, October 19, 2010 (UTC)

look, i don't care about you guys, but i was just happy to find burned-out skeletons named 'Owen' and 'Beru'--Katikar 05:28, October 20, 2010 (UTC)

I don't think any Fallout has been a serious game. This is what happens when Fallout 3 is your first. I believe there is a line in Fallout 2 "Hey, I got 9 perception just so I could have this dialogue option!" or something to that effect. KaisarDragon 12:46, December 5, 2010 (UTC)

Has anyone checked whether getting this trait from the autodoc allows you to experience all of the events or only those you havent been to the location of previously.--Steel Atlas 02:43, July 21, 2011 (UTC)

Alternate Credits for Wild Wasteland?

The alternate end-game credits for Wild Wasteland ought to be listed here. There seems to be a file with them in the game\Data directory.68.82.238.70 15:04, October 23, 2010 (UTC)

Indeed, Credits.txt and CreditsWacky.txt. The Wacky Credits include nicknames and one-liners from staff:

Hoover Dam

I got a Wild Wasteland "warning" thing when I entered the visitors centre for the first time (during Yes Man's last quest). I found "Prime Legionaries" on the floor, dead... kinda look like ninjas. I dunno if that was the change or not, though. Couldn't loot 'em for anything. Also found a dead NCR trooper in the middle of the compass star in the centre of the room, just after a SECOND warning/music played up, in the same area. Still unsure what happened, though, so didn't want to add it 'til someone confirmed? - LordSchmee (Laptop still won't sign me in)

if ur listening to the Emergency Radio(even if ur not) during the battle the guy will say something along the lines of "Their coming out of the damn walls, game over man, game over." which will trigger them appearing there, Mr. Fantastic should also be there, alive CountryStrong106 04:51, June 1, 2012 (UTC)

It's from the Emergency Radio. I've just got the warning when the person in radio shouted, "Game over, Man! Game Over!"114.121.79.64 02:45, November 7, 2010 (UTC)

Over radio at Dam NCR sometimes states "Location Bravo Bravo Charlie, the doctor is coming." Sounds like a reference to BBC's Doctor Who series.

It may be a reference, but the only two lines triggered by Wild Wasteland are "Game over" and "They're coming out of the damn walls". --Rist 14:13, November 21, 2010 (UTC)

Alien Blaster?

All i found on them was laser pistols and tri-beams

  • Try loading your game again from before you walked up, should pop up in the Alien Captain's inventory.
I killed the captain and all he had was a laser pistol and some ammo. I selected take all. The Alien Blaster was in my inventory after that. Odd. PC KaisarDragon 15:32, November 9, 2010 (UTC)
I found that if I let my companion (Arcade Gannon) kill the aliens, the leader will have the unique items but every time I tried to kill him, he was missing the key items. --Deboriole 18:04, December 9, 2010 (UTC)

Nothing Happens?

I've had 5 of these wacky encounters on my first play through, one of them was that johnny guy on the cliff and the other 4 happened while wandering the wastelands, nothing happens. I looked all around me and there was nothing. I remember one of these happening in a staircase at hoover dam and seeing nothing yet again...

TFM

I've had four now, one was the Indiana Jones Fridge, the other 3 at Hoover Dam, where I didn't see or hear anything unusual.--86.44.142.247 13:28, October 28, 2010 (UTC)

---Have any of you tried talking to your companions during WW event? Related: "What Is It, Boy" - I've seen a couple of different suggestions on triggering this (just talking Rex now and then, talk to him when he barks, etc..), but the only time I got Rex to give me the Jimmy's Well quest was when I spoke to Rex during the WW icon & music. Also, before I spoke to Rex, I'd get a WW event every few hours, even when not near any WW hotspots. But after talking to Rex, I only get WW events when I'm near a WW location. So I suspect maybe these WW events where nothing seems to be happening is the queue to speak to Rex about the Jimmy's Well quest (which makes sence since Jimmy's Well is not based on location trigger but companion trigger and thus could/should/(does?) happen any/everywhere till activated/completed.{edited to make a correction in my observations.}98.211.145.167 06:53, January 24, 2011 (UTC)

Legates Camp Encounter?

I was just playing through All or nothing and went through the gate that takes you to the legate's camp area. As I entered I decided to snipe the guard at the main gate, I was using an Anti Material rifle and shot him in the chest, and got a Sneak critical. And as it exited the critical screen, one of the wild wasteland notices popped up, I wasn't listening to the emergency broadcast, and I had Rex and Veronica with me(if that helps). And as far as I could tell. Nothing really happened as the notice appeared. Anyone know what it could've been?

And again it happened to me as I got through the camp's main area. With the tents on the left and the Brahmin on the right, and the training dummies in the center. As I exited the gate at the back of that area. Another notice appeared and seemingly nothing else happened.

I got one in the Legates camp too, the notification popped up after I'd met with the legate. Walked out his tent and went down to the tents to the north. The music played but seemingly nothing happened? I reloaded to entering the Legates tent and tried to make it happen again but it didn't...does something random happen in this camp? I have a suspicion that it may be that it is coming up when the NCR emergency radio plays one of the "Bill Paxton" radio clips but you're not actually listening to the radio....

Note: I've just confirmed that the sentence "They are coming out of the walls, they're coming out of the dammn walls is said some time after you leave Laniuns's tent (while siding with the legion). You'll get this message even the ncr emergency radio is off.

what the???

i just come across a random encounter where I stumbled upon a campsite inhabited by the four horsemen of the apocalypse. They are all arguing. The big joke is that since the civilization has been effectively destroyed they now have nothing to do, and they are quite bored. You can talk to them, but you can't say anything. This is what they all have to say.

  • War- "War never changes", fuck you, you don't know me!
  • Death- 7 billion people died just like that <snaps finger>, biggest haul I ever had, <sighs>...
  • Pestilence- You see those ghouls yet? Nasty man.
  • Famine- I going to get some snacks, you guys want anything?

before you ask you cannot attack them, the option is never given, you cannot draw your weapon in the campsite. You cannot pick pocket them, the option is not given when crouching. If you ever return to that area, they will be gone, but the fire will still be going; there are empty beer bottles everywhere and a note detailing the previous night's drinking game.

friend of mine emailed this to me saying this happened to him with the perk...seems a little out there...so I'll just put it here unless some else has this encounter--Silverfox6000 20:56, October 29, 2010 (UTC)

Secret "Gojira" monster?

Looking through the GECK files, I noticed an extremely powerful monster appears to be a gigantic Gecko named "Gojira". It has 8000 HP and a fire attack dealing 400 damage (it kills you instantly). There seems to be a good deal of time put into this, I'm wondering if it's just supposed to be a developer joke or if it legitimately appears in game through this trait. Lol Austin Powers reference.

2 things

First, i never met the R.O.U.S. after moving through all of Vault 11 and the other place where theyre supposed to be. Probably just a bug in my game though. Second, there's a lot of information on here about things that happen that would also happen without the trait (e.g. Lonesome Drifter, B-29 supply drop) and people have decided to write underneath "This isn't with the trait, it happens anyway" instead of actually cutting the malarky information out. Is there a particular reason for this? Shepherd's ghost 20:33, October 31, 2010 (UTC)

R.O.U.S. did appear for me without the perk a couple of times, but there is an activator at the entrance of Broc Flower Cave that checks whether WW perk is selected and if it is, it changes rats to R.O.U.S. and gives you a default Wild Wasteland message ("...")--Rist 14:10, November 21, 2010 (UTC)

Adding Trait During Playthrough

Does anybody know if there are negative side effects of adding this trait midway through the game via console? I didn't initially want it, but now I would. Will there be problems like certain events not showing up now that I've ran across the Wasteland?--173.24.217.58 02:24, November 2, 2010 (UTC)

Pimp-Boy

You can get Pimp-Boy from Mick and Ralph even without a Wild Wasteland trait.

It's not about if you can only obtain the Pimp-Boy when you have the Wild Wasteland trait, but about the music that plays when you switch between the Pimp-Boy and the Pip-Boy. --Non-Anonymous User 00:58, November 3, 2010 (UTC)

The gang of old ladies

I ran across a gang of old ladies after exiting the factory with the sexbot in it during the quest "Wang Dang Atomic Tango" the wild wasteland tune came up and three old ladies with pre-war spring outfits and rolling pins attacked me named Malefic Maud, Irate Ida, and Rancorous Ruth... i don't know if that refers to a movie or anything but i haven't seen it posted... also I've heard Mr. New Vegas say something about a gang of old ladies on the radio.

-- Gang of Old Ladies

The gang of old ladies is probably a reference to the Monty Python skit called Hell's Grannies.

Probably? Its on the page. KaisarDragon 03:56, November 10, 2010 (UTC)

-- I had the old ladies attack me on a non-wild wasteland playthrough, I think they're part of the regular game.

No, they only appear with the wild wasteland trait. The message and weird music appears once dialogue with them ends and the fight begins. KaisarDragon 01:18, July 1, 2011 (UTC)

Changes in conversations?

I haven't noticed anything else out of the ordinary and this one didn't have any music with it, but when on the quest Talent Pool, when you speak to The Lonesome Drifter, he mentioned he was from Montana. Then I had an option to ask "Montana? Are you 17?" (or very similar). The response was obviously no. As there was no music or top-left Fallout-boy box, I don't know if it's part of this Perk. It just seems too out of place to NOT be. The Courier didn't even seem to know what he was on about. Acelister 17:16, November 7, 2010 (UTC)

I just went back through the conversation tree and can select it again. [Lady Killer] Wait, Montana? You wouldn't happen to be 17, would you?" So, Wild Wasteland, Lady Killer and Talent Pool quest. Unless there are more conversations that have weird out of context conversations? Acelister 17:21, November 7, 2010 (UTC)

Lady Killer. It's basically the main character saying that he had an illegitimate child in Montana 17 years ago.

Thats... pretty wierd as the lowest (and average I would imagine) age for the courier to be is like 19 years old.. 96.50.198.233 00:06, November 22, 2010 (UTC)

After much consideration...

This is the equivalent of a laugh track on a tv sitcom. "Hey everyone, this is a joke if you know it or not...time to laugh now!". There is no reason these gags couldn't have just been situations you discovered as you wandered about the place. Telling someone it's a joke doesn't suddenly cause the viewer to get it. I chose the perk because I though it might have had some more useful outcome, but now I've wasted a perk. Poor design choice IMHO.

The point is they only appear if you choose the perk, not it just tells you they're a joke. If you wanted something useful you should have chosen one of the traits that actually gave you positive and negative effects.

Not sure how you think it is a poor design choice, when in fact it is a perfect one. It reconciles the interests of both the old school-style fans who want the humorous encounters from the first two and those who prefer their post-nuclear adventures to have a more serious tone a la Fallout 3.

Cool story bro, OP. --Hammerhead18 20:51, September 25, 2011 (UTC)

"They're coming out of the damn walls!" or "Game over, man!".

"They're coming out of the damn walls!" and "Game over, man!" are quotes from the 1986 blockbuster "Aliens" (See http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090605/quotes ) I tried to include this fact on the main page but it is protected, thus I was not able to. Johnny Got His Gun reference

I found an NCR Troop, laying in a ditch between Nelson and some NCR Camp, with no arms and no legs, moaning, "Kill me," over and over again. This is likely a reference to the movie Johnny Got His Gun I just can't confirm if this is a Wild Wasteland event or if it just happens to everyone?

Not Wild Wasteland, for sure. Probably not a movie reference either. Nitty Tok. 13:20, December 6, 2010 (UTC)

Mars?

Battle of Hoover Dam is about to start and I'm at the gate leading to Hoover Dam. When I talk to a guard, he says "Mars be with you" and the Wild Wasteland icon pops up. Just saying this so someone can type it up all professional and whatnot.

Actually, I don't think so. Since Caesar styles the Legion after the ancient Romans, they might worship the same pantheon of gods; among them is Mars, the god of war (and the origin of the word 'martial'). The WW icon might have been triggered by something else. RolandVH 19:38, January 1, 2011 (UTC)

Son of Sam reference?

I had just picked up Rex to go take him to Dr. Henry, and I gotten the "Jimmy's Well" dialog. I have had it happen in a previous play-through, but there was one thing I noticed for the first time. One of your dialog choices when you ask Rex what he is howling about is something along the lines of "You want me to stab the next person I see?" This might be a reference to the Son of Sam, a serial killer in New York City who claims that he was told to kill people by his neighbor's dog. Anybody else notice this? 99.56.230.107 04:42, February 27, 2011 (UTC)

Working B-29 in Hoover Dam Battle???

I was fighting the final battle and just before the tower on the dam, a wild wasteland thing that shows something weird happens appeared, and A DAMN BOMBER BOMBED THE LIVING SHIT OUT OF SOME LEGIONAIRES!!! i was idolized by boomers, and it looked like that B-29 that i saved from the bottom of the lake for boomers.

pics?--Atlas Lied! 18:34, March 26, 2011 (UTC)

These are probably two unrelated events happening at the same time: receiving a Wild Wasteland message due to the (unheard) radio chatter on the NCR Emergency Broadcast, and the Boomers showing up to help you out per their agreement to do so. The B-29 showing up isn't dependent on the Wild Wasteland perk. -- Yukichigai 03:01, April 6, 2011 (UTC)

it appears after you raise it in the quest Volare! with the floats, this is a quest given out at nellis air force base as part of the quest line to recruit the boomers to your side for the battle at hoover dam. the quest giver expresses his deep desire to repair it and get it back into the skies. this seems to be the most logical reason.

-Mannyismaintank 70.126.159.157 02:14, March 17, 2012 (UTC)

Also, Mr. New Vegas mentions and unidentified flying object in the Mojave skies after you complete Volare. Its definitely not in reference to the aliens because I had found the alien ship prior to completing Volare.

The NCR Emergency Broadcast Radio(or whatever it is) probably said the Phrase "They're coming out of the damn walls" or "Game Over Man" just when the Boomers flew over the Dam it happens even when your not listening to it and it only happens w/ the WW perkCountryStrong106 05:55, June 16, 2012 (UTC)

Canon?

can someone who knows twitter or something find out if the trait is canon to fallout or not i mean the alien blaster evidently is all fallout games had it (especially fallout 3 with mz addon captains sidearm) old world blues may have alien tech though nothing that grabs elijahs eyes of coarse

How would it not be since its in the game? Besides I dont think any of the events make a huge difference in any way. --Bottrot 20:38, June 5, 2011 (UTC)

It's a personal decision, for someone like me who played through the previous Fallout games having a Wild Wasteland is how the Fallout world was meant to be. The trait was introduced because the developers themselves couldn't decide if they wanted to make the game take a more serious tone. For me; strange things happen in the wasteland, aliens exist and anything less would be missing a large part of what Fallout has always been but other people believe these things don't fit in a post-apoc game.. to each his own, I'm glad they gave us a choice. --Necaradan666 121.217.41.30 23:58, October 3, 2011 (UTC)

Your move, creep!

I'm hearing this and haven't done any quests on the strip yet. Any way to check the actual requirements? Great Mara 00:39, June 15, 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, it is a random idle dialogue and happens regardless of the wild wasteland trait. I contest it as a wild wasteland event. Even when getting Heck arrested, the wild wasteland message and music does not appear, though it doesn't with the alien encounter either. Confirmation is needed. Rockit 88

I stumbled upon a Wild Wasteland Encounter today (OWB) and couln't find anything odd just the back of a truck standig on pile of green radioactive goo with the reg. plate: Rockit 88 i think, is this a reference to something or did i just miss the real encounter?

I believe this to be a reference to the movie "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai: Across the 8th Dimension". The front of the truck is phased into the cliff, as might happen with an accident with the matter-phasing rocket car seen in the beginning of that movie. The classic rhythm and blues song Rocket 88 was covered by the main character's band during the movie, and the license plate of the rocket car was "Rokit 88"

ReSpec

so with OWB, can you get rid of this trait, And get the YCS/186 ect... The lone wanderer's bad-ass grandma 21:47, July 20, 2011 (UTC)

Getting both YCS/186 and Alien Blaster is unpossible.

As an experiment (fitting, as its OWB), I respeced my traints at the end of OWB and took wild wasteland, which I previously did not. I went back to the Lucky 38 to find my Gauss rifle was still there, and went to the alien crash site, and nothing was there. Just some merc corpses and a compfire. No changes sadly. I have to do this..sorry - UNpossible?? c'mon! I get it, spelling errors happen, that is why a nice red underline appears under words that are spelled wrong. But people miss them...however, its in the title of your topic! But i believe in this case you actually think unpossible is a word.. or if you were trying to be cute and make up a word, type Un-Possible or something.. sorry dude. And i will sign this if you want to yell at me or whatever, just lookin out bro!

--DrunkenSushi 13:25, July 22, 2011 (UTC)

Have you played through OWB? The think tank and Mobius frequently say unpossible. Mobius is the worst, though, replacing many words for many raisins. KaisarDragon 01:50, August 9, 2011 (UTC)
"Me fail English? That's unpossible!" - Ralph Wiggum, the Simpsons. FieryWrath 17:37, August 31, 2011 (UTC)

OWB WW

There is a Sign "Kilroy was here" on right side of think tank wall.

its a referance to either WWI or WWII because US soldiers would put these on walls (w/ their name) as a mark of progress in the warCountryStrong106 04:42, June 1, 2012 (UTC)

Johnny Quest

The Walking Eye from the Venture Brothers was itself a reference to Johnny Quest. Should it be included

Killroy

Is it just me, or is there no killroy. I mean I've looked all over the Dome and found nothing. --Xa3MysteriousStranger 21:36, July 24, 2011 (UTC)

False info?

The occurrence of Dr. O speaking over the intercom concerning the walking eyes, I walked in and out of the X-13 Research Facility, as the page indicates this event occurs, and not once did it happen. Even restarted the DLC and tried again but to no avail and yes I have the trait. I looked in the GECK and I see no trigger or script surrounding the area and it seems the occurrence is in fact random because I traced the line back to a script that's pared up with all the other messages over the intercom. This info should be changed unless I'm missing something if so please enlighten me.

It is completely random. No matter where you are or what you have accomplished, if you have the trait it will be said along with all the other ones. It also isn't a one time deal, though the music and message will only happen once. I've had the walking eye phrase come up numerous times while playing. KaisarDragon 01:48, August 9, 2011 (UTC)

Bravo bravo charlie

Removed this section from the article. This line is not WW-related.

Yes it is. It does not play w/out WW. The trippy symbol even shows when it does.--Hammerhead18 20:46, September 25, 2011 (UTC)

Well I beat the game without the trait and I heard that 2 times on the radio so.... (Lvdoomien 20:50, September 25, 2011 (UTC))

Just finished without WW & had this line repeatedly. --BeardyDan 20:53, September 25, 2011 (UTC)

jingle

Sounds similar to part of the X-Files tune...

Any idea why you get a Wild Wasteland notice near the entrance to the sewers in the Third Street Municipal Building in Lonesome Road? I couldn't see anything of interest there. I was able to get it on the PC and my girlfriend got it on XBOX. (Both characters had Wild Wasteland, of course.)

I got the WW notice in the same place, but haven't found anything that really seems "Wild" there. Maybe there's some different entry in the administrator's computer, but wouldn't that normally only give you the WW notice when you view the log entry?

Rawr's Fist/Varient

If one takes Rawr's Fist during Lonesome Road, and then switches to the trait via the Sink Auto-Doc, does it become Fist of the North Rawr?

Bravo Bravo Charlie

I was playing through the 2nd battle of hoover dam listening to the emergency radio for the fun of it, and I heard them make the Doctor Who reference Twice on the radio and I didn't have the wild wasteland trait. Can somebody verify that and maybe move the doctor who reference to the cultural references and out of the wild wasteland page? (Lvdoomien 20:48, September 25, 2011 (UTC))

Isn't the guest password a reference to Archer? 130.245.231.147 18:43, October 25, 2011 (UTC)

Hoover dam

Hey, I've only played with the trait once(since its stupid.but wanted to see dumb stuff) and I ran into something not in the main page.During that mission where you have to protect president kimball from getting offed off I was walking around near that ncr soldier with the ugly dog.around there I was just running and passed some stone things and saw the vault boy image and music.I turned and saw a box with two giant human statues on either side.the statues had wings and the it looked like the arc of the covenant.not gold, it was white.it wa weird and bizzare and haven't found Anything about it on this wiki.I have not tried it since and am not enirely sure that it even happened.I'm actually going to replay the game just to try this again.

Getting YCS and Alien blaster in one campaign

On fallout new vegas, is it possible to obtain the ysc/aliel blaster weapon, play through the old world blues add on, and use the auto doc to add/remove the wild wasteland perk to obtain the opposite weapon?

No its not any area you've walked past already(EX:Indiana Jones in a Fridge With it or nothing their but passed the area) will stay tht way so if you get the alien blaster then choose to undo the perk at the sink the aliens will still be their but anyplace you havent been to(EX:Hoover Dams Second Battle) will change CountryStrong106 06:01, June 16, 2012 (UTC)

For the "Guest" password for the Third Municipal Building, this is a reference from Archer in which case nearly all security passwords end up being Guest.

Deleted Image?

Can someone explain to me why the image I added to R.O.U.S. was deleted with no explanation...? Almost all the other sections on this page have images, so I assumed adding one to that section would be needful. I'm kind of just scratching my head here, as I cant come up with a single reason for why my added image was deleted. Ulithium Dragon (talk) 14:11, August 6, 2013 (UTC)

Well, I can no longer see the image so I can't speak for myself, but according to Great Mara's edit summary your image was removed because it contained part of the HUD in it, which is against our image policy. It was probably then deleted because it was not present on any pages. Paladin117>>iff bored; 15:40, August 6, 2013 (UTC)

Possible WW addition

So, I'm not sure if this is exclusive to Wild Wasteland or not (been a while since I did this quest without), but when Jessup tells you you're supposed to be dead in Boulder City Showdown, one of the options is "I got better." This is clearly a Holy Grail reference to the "She turned me into a newt" scene, but I can't remember if it shows up without the trait. Schiffy (T|C) 22:26, August 7, 2013 (UTC)

It shows up without it. And other people seem to think it has something to do with Wolverine. Great Mara (talk) 22:27, August 7, 2013 (UTC)
