Exitus Acta Probat (The ends justify the means)

The Ballistic Defense Division was a division of the Commonwealth Defense Administration before the Great War. It was responsible for protecting the United States through the use of ICBMs.

Background[]

The Ballistic Defense Division operated in Hopeville and Ashton. The division seals can be seen in the base commander's office of Hopeville missile silo bunker and outside of the entrance to the Ashton missile silo following the elevator ride during The Divide quest.

Appearances[]

The Ballistic Defense Division is mentioned only in the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Lonesome Road.

Behind the scenes[]

  • The Ballistic Defense Division's real-life equivalent is either United States Strategic Command, formerly Strategic Air Command, or Global Strike Command, one of USSTRATCOM's subordinate units, which have command and control over the US Air Force's 400+ intercontinental ballistic missiles.
  • General Martin Retslaf, commander of the silo located in Hopeville, is specified as having been an officer in the U.S. Army, implying that the Ballistic Defense Division was an Army unit, rather than Air Force like most real world I.C.B.M. installations.
